Those only familiar with the Tops' 1960s Motown heyday may be surprised at just how prolific the foursome remained after leaving the mother ship in 1972. While this four-disc set does include 53 tracks from their peak Motown tenure, it also offers a much more comprehensive look at their entire career, reaching all the way back to a 1956 Chess single and continuing into the 1990s. Of particular note are a number of topflight selections from their years on Dunhill and ABC (1972-1979), when hits such as "Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got)" and "Keeper of the Castle" as well as a few lesser-known gems successfully updated their trademark sound to include elements of funk and disco while still remaining true to their defining trait: the balance of Levi Stubbs's robust growl and the ethereal harmonies of his mates. Their early-1980s Casablanca period also yielded notable additions to their repertoire, such as the buoyant "When She Was My Girl" and the ballad "I Believe in You and Me," which would become a wedding staple. Still, nothing can compare to their Motown classics, when the songs of the Holland-Dozier-Holland hit machine joined forces with the Tops' appealing style to the delight of a generation. This is a very comprehensive review of Four Tops "cuts' what I simply can't understand is why none of these 'Hit Lists' do not include what I believe to be one their greatest, Jimmy Webbs, Do Whatcha Gotta Do! Other than this terrific song I love the rest of the Boxed set immenesly

At last we have a box set for the very gifted and often overlooked TOPS. The Tops were together longer than any other Motown group. Yet they tended to be overshadowed by the other acts from the same stable. This set stands as a testimony to how great they really were. All the hits, plus some rarities, all of them true gems. Their music continues to stand the test of time. I have been a fan from the beginning and, thanks to this collection, can continue to spread their legacy to future generations.

This is a must for all tops fans and truely is magnificant, it brings out the best from these four familiar guys, wonderfully put together and deserves every tops fan, s attention if you want to hear levi and the guys giving there best this does just that , what an exellent compilation.

This cd started my love affair with Kruder and Dorfmeister, Thievery Corporation, Tosca and others. This is a must have for your collection. Laid back and mellow while maintaining a constant groove to keep you awake and blissful.

After listening to and enjoying the K&D Sessions, I bought this CD on a whim without ever actually listening to it. I could not have been more pleased. Great for meditating, trancing, dancing, sleeping, but most of all, chilling out! Seemless mixes on two wonderful CDs, each with a distinctive feel.

This one is brilliant. There are a lot of compilations out there, but this one is striking. The music's not mainly Kruder+Dorfmeister's sound, it's more british and sounds newer, but the album captures K+D's easyness and the relaxed athmosphere which is floating through Vienna's clubs and cafes. (.. got to recommend the Blue Note here..)

Lost In Music.......2003-04-12

I belive the word "superb" would have to be used hear. Patrick Forge is a musical genius. i mean the dude compiles for compost records which is like the godfather of chill as far as i'm concerned. This cd is so heavy, no wonder it's outta stock. Talk about cream of the crop. featuring some of the finest, most choice hand selected chillout tracks of alltime too. It's compiled in such a manor that you may be pron to zone out, or even get lost in a joyful relationship with your loudspeakers. This cd makes love to your ears, and your home audio equipment, no joke.
If your looking to witness excellent craftsmenship, history, and a rare cd that your friends won't have but wish they did, look no further, but good luck finding it. peace! (cminor)

I first heard this 2CD mix a year ago, and I still love it. If Kruder and Dormeister's "Black Baby" doesn't do anything for you (it takes a few times to listen to), then Bullinuts' "Fourteen Daze", Fila's "Harmonicas are Shite" and Snooze's " Middle Class Lady" will definitely fit the bill. If you're a downtempo fan, you can't go wrong here.
