Though they've suffered death, departure and fraught internal and external relationships, No Doubt have kept faith with fun throughout, as The Singles very clearly proves. As their troubles have made them far from prolific, it's culled almost entirely from three albums--Return of Saturn, Rock Steady and their mega-hit Tragic Kingdom--with just the quirky, warped ska of "Trapped in a Box" to represent their eponymously titled major label debut. As said, it's excellent fun, from the opening power anthem "Just a Girl", through the ultra-modern, Madonna-like "Hey Baby" and the urgent, melodious power pop of "Excuse Me Mr" to the Chicago-style break-up ballad "Don't Speak". It's easy to see how this colourful band of Anaheim skanksters came to be seen as an energising antidote to the crushing male miserabilism of grunge. There are a few extras; a reverent cover of Talk Talk's "It's My Life", a dance-metal "Hey Baby" remix and a live repeat of the cute, Leonard Cohen-quoting "Underneath It All", featuring Gwen Stefani's vocal and a simple acoustic guitar. But, naturally, it's the hits that count and they're all here, every bouncing, beaming one of them. It's a fine testament to one of America's most enduring pop acts. --Dominic Wills

No Doubt-The Singles 1992-2003 (an unbiased review).......2007-06-17
No Doubt fans will undoubtedly be thrilled to own a compilation of their favorite band's hits all on one album. Casual fans will want to partake so that they can own an album that contains mostly recognizable and loveable hits from the group.
Here's a rundown of the songs (along with my rating for each song):
Just A Girl-4/5
It's My Life-4/5
Hey Baby-3.5/5
Bathwater-4/5
Sunday Morning-4.5/5
Hella Good-3.5/5
New-3.75/5
Underneath It All-3.5/5
Excuse Me Mr.-4/5
Running-4.5/5
Spiderwebs-4/5
Simple Kind of Life-3.5/5
Don't Speak-4.5-5
Ex-Girlfriend-4/5
Trapped in a Box-3/5
So what's to like about this album? As I said above, casual fans will recognize 80% of the songs on this album. The only songs that I didn't know were "Sunday Morning" (my new favorite track from the band), "New", "Excuse Me Mr.", "Spiderwebs", and "Trapped In a Box". Fans of older No Doubt songs will be content with "Just A Girl", "Bathwater", and "Ex-Girlfriend". Fans of newer No Doubt songs will be entertained by "Hey Baby", "Hella Good", and the newest song on this album "It's My Life". There's also ton of different kinds of music to choose from. From reggae-influenced "Sunday Morning" to the more electronic sounding "Hey Baby" to the classic No Doubt sound (it's all about the guitars, baby!) in "Excuse Me Mr." to the ballads like "Don't Speak", this album is sure to please everybody!
Lyric-wise, this album has everything! You have songs about breakups and seperations. And you have songs about being "Just A Girl" and songs that make you just want to get up and dance. Vocal-wise, I prefer the older No Doubt songs to the newer ones. Gwen's voice is perfect for its genre.
Furthermore, the songs aren't in any particular order so if you listen to the album straight through, you get an eclectic mix of old and new songs.
And what's not to like? Honestly, nothing. I love every song on this album although I have to be in a certain mood to listen to the newer songs.
My rating: 5/5 stars. There's a ton of entertainment on this album. Whether you're a fan of the band's music or you just like great music in general, this album is a must have for your CD collection. It's one of the first CDs I pull out when I want a mix of everything. You won't know how much you want this CD until you have it in your hands!

No Doubt's 1995 release, Tragic Kingdom, brought Southern California's ska scene to a national stage while elevating the band to star status. An irresistible mix of reggae, punk, and power pop, Tragic Kingdom scored several hits, among them "Spiderwebs," "Just a Girl," and "Don't Speak." Singer Gwen Stefani's looks made the group MTV shoo-ins, but her soaring voice is the real star, as evidenced by such songs as "Happy Now?"--a classic you'll-regret-you-dumped-me anthem that recalls Blondie--and the bouncy "Sunday Morning." Despite recurring themes of pain and regret, Tragic Kingdom manages to somehow feel sunny throughout. --Courtney KempCustomer Reviews:
Breakout, no doubt!.......2007-01-18
One excellent Ska album.......2006-11-09
Welcome to the Tragic Kingdom!.......2006-07-26
1. Spiderwebs. A great intro. This song is what defines No Doubt style to my opinion. I love this one. 10/10
2. Excuse me mr. I don't like this song that much. I think ''Sixteen'' should have been released as a single instead of this one. The lyrics, don't make much sense, but the piano sounds good. 6/10
3. Just a Girl. A very nice song about teenager girls. The guitar sounds great. 10/10
4. Happy Now? This song sounds good. I like it.9/10
5. Different People. Nice intro. The rest, isn't that bad. 8/10
6. Hey You. The first time I saw this song title, before I listened to it, I thought It was a remake of Pink Floyd's. This song is the strongest one. It's just rock. Doesn't have any reggae, pop or ska rythm. One of my favourites. 10/10
7. The Climb. It didn't have to take much time. This song is the boring slow one. Is actualy quiet good, but is the longest one, and it wasn't necessary at all. Up to 6 minutes!! 8/10
8. Sixteen. One of my favourites. One of the best rock songs No Doubt has ever made. It had been released as a single and I bet it would have reached the number one for weeks! Starts great, is the song that makes you stand up and jump. I was 16, and I felt like this song was to me. I felt identified with it.''You're only sixteen and you're feeling old...'' And it ends when Sunday Morning starts, with the drums. 10/10
9. Sunday Morning. I love how the song sounds, it's geat! but the lyrics doesn't help that much. But I don't care, I like it! One of my favourites. 10/10
10. Don't Speak. I have no words to describe this song. The lyrics, the sound, everything on this song is great! I think this is the best No Doubt song on their 5 studio albums!
A strong ballad. ''As we die, both you and I, with my head in my hands I sit and cry...''.10/10
11. You can do it. Doesn't sound that good. This song shouldn't have been included on this album. Is just the worst. I don't like it. 3/10
12. A very nice song. ''We gotta fing another way to make the world go 'round.'' The lyrics are great. Is just about rality. I love this song. 10/10
13. End it on this. A good one. Not that bad. 9/10
14. Tragic Kingdom. This song is like the cherry on the cake. I like the intro when it says "Permanecer sentados por favor" in Spanish. Welcome to the Tragic Kingdom! 10/10
Be sure you pick a copy of this album up. This album is No Doubt's best ever.
Fun!.......2006-07-19
Great New Wave/Ska Revival.......2006-07-10
This is the ultimate No Doubt album - terrific sound of ska/new wave/pop. Listening to this album again during our present penchant for 80's revival made me realize that "Tragic Kingdom" was about 10 years ahead of it's time.
"Spiderwebs", "Excuse Me Mr", "Just A Girl", "Sunday Morning" and "Don't Speak" are all great singles.
Hopefully this band will truly return to their great roots and return to this fine form in the near future...I think it's the perfect time!

As much as No Doubt have protested that they are a singular unit and not "Gwen and her guys," Gwen Stefani's much-touted duets with rapper Eve and techno mogul Moby did nothing to juice the boys' spotlight, which had been steadily dimming since the release of 2000's Return of Saturn. But all that banter is silenced with Rock Steady, on which the music is definitely the star, unfettered by Gwen's cutesy-clouded feminism or dumped-by-the-boyfriend woes. Having mostly departed from their ska home base, No Doubt's well-navigated exploration of hip-hop beats, reggae, and the reunion of '80s keyboards and guitars finds the group picking up the pop-rock baton that Garbage dropped with an unsettling thud. Rock Steady's delegate of stalwart producers perfectly decorate the disc with their respective expertise; Ric Ocasek (new wave), Prince (R&B), Nellee Hooper (trip-hop), Sly & Robbie (dub), and William Orbit (trance) offer some staying power to music that's always been on the edge of disposable. Despite their disparate styles, the songs complement each other like stars and stripes. This is No Doubt's best album to date, and as they continue to expand their influences, the party only gets bigger. --Beth MassaAlbum Description

New Territory But Still Wonderful Music.......2006-12-29
First song is called "Hella Good" and is a Neptune production. Strange at first thought maybe, but at second it feels like genius. Bon Jovi got unexpected help from Max Martin on their "It's My Lfe" so why not No Doubt aswell. This song reached a #13 place on the bilboard and is a really catchy pop song that surely will make you up and dance. "Hey Baby" is another uptempo featuring dance hall king Bounty Killer. It's also a catchy pop song which makes you go up and dance and reached the top 5 in US. "Making Out" Is New Wave/Pop and wouldn't have been bad on a Gwen solo album either, it feutures synthesizers and the sound is very cool. One of the best songs of this album. "Underneath It All" is a reggae sounding ballad that reached #3 on the charts, it was co-written between Gwen and Dave Stewart of Eurythmics. Dancehall artist Lady Saw also appears briefly. "Detective" is another great new wave song with good hook and sound. So far the album is sublime.
"Don't Let Me Down" still new wave but sounds like some songs on "Saturn" with more edgy sound. "Start the Fire" is dance hall inspired and quite exotic, it's synthesizer sound is a little 80's. "Running" was the last single of this album, but never became a hit. A Pop ballad, and very good aswell. "In My Head" is a slow paced song, not bad but lacks a good hook and is my least favorite here. "Platinum Blonde Life" is rock, plain and simple. It showes the rougher side of the band. "Waiting Room" is interesting since Prince co-wrote and appear on it. It's a rock-pop song and it is simular to some of Prince's most recent music. The title track is the closer. An exotic midtempo with cool and breezy sound.
Overall, Many bands tend to sound the same album after album, but not No Doubt. All of their albums sound diffrent and while some No Doubt purists didn't like the pop sound of this album it's undeniably one of the catchiest and most hooky albums of 2001. It's very varied though and you got a bit of everything here. Some reggae/ska, some electronic new wave and some catchy pop. Some of the music here quite simular to the music Gwen did on her solo albums. From start to finnish, this album is simply great and very unexpected music from No Doubt at the time. This is an album for your collection.

After No Doubt sold more than 10 million copies of Tragic Kingdom, riding that wave of success without toppling over must have been a daunting mission. No sweat for No Doubt. The band toiled as national unknowns with a loyal local following for a decade before that album's release, and during that time the band members were learning how to be better songwriters and musicians. The follow-up, Return of Saturn, glides along that continuum of songcraft perfection. The band presents a cleaner, less apologist representation of their influences. They pull off some of the more difficult maneuvers of pure reggae, ground-pounding ska, and Cars-esque New Wave. Gwen Stefani, the fearless Orange County princess, belts a powerful pout, her Mae West-meets-Siouxsie Sioux vocal bravado the bungee cord that springs in between the band's retro tendencies and SoCal pop-punk attitude. It seems believable that she could stamp her foot and always get her way, but her self-deprecating confessions evade brattiness. Songs like "Bathwater" and "Ex-Girlfriend" reveal the singer's vulnerability to being hurt or dumped on, and the band's sense of humor and exploration (albeit firmly controlled) matches the songs' sentiments. This group is growing out and tightening up, and while the rest of the ska-punk surfer-dude bands do nothing more than repeat history, No Doubt is creating it. --Beth MassaCustomer Reviews:

I just want to take it away from everyone and keep it stashed under my pillow, and then I'd take it out simply for my own pleasure.
If you know what I mean, score 100!
I don't want to make a song-by-song review, 'cause the "I love this song" phrase, turns into a boring one.
The version of this album I love the most, is the Latin American version.
It had two bonus tracks, and they were: Big Distraction (Also included in Everything In Time) And a great instrummental version of Too Late. 4 songs from this album were released as a single, and they were: "New", "Ex-girlfriend", "Simple kind of life" and "Bathwater", from 1999 to 2000. "Magic's in the makeup" was performered in a Dawson's Creek episode, in the 6th season. "Marry me" is a boring, annoying song.
"Home Now", "Comforting Lie", "Suspension without suspense" and "Dark blue" are very good. "S-T-A-R-I-N-G Problem" sounds good. It it so funny. "Six Feet Under" is a great song of this album. I listen to it when it's my birthday. "Today is my birthday, I get one every year. And some day...hard to believe but I'll be buried six feet underground..." "Artificial Sweetener" is another great song. I think, it should have been released as a single, and it would have been number one.
Well, this is a very good album, 9/10.
Be sure you pick a copy of this album up.
I hope you find this review helpful.
I recommend this album.
Enjoy it!

Everything In Time.......2005-10-07
1. Big Distraction: 5/5. I love this song, I can't exactly explain why. The horn parts in it sort of sound like their early ska stuff, and I love the tune.
2. Leftovers: 4.5/5. Not my favorite on this CD, but it is good in its own way. It is a bit slow, and reminds me of a cross between something from Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn.
3. Under Construction: 5/5. I like the tune and guitar parts of this song. It reminds me of 'Six Feet Under' from Return of Saturn.
4. Beauty Contest: 5/5. A sad song, and has very deep lyrics. The phrase 'born to blossom, bloom to perish' is originally used in this song, but some of you may recognize it from Gwen's 'What You Waiting For?'. Wait until the last few seconds of the song, it's really cute!
5. Full Circle: 5/5. I love this song. The tune is really catchy, and the lyrics are good.
6. Cellophane Boy: 5/5. Another song that reminds me of a cross between something from Tragic Kingdom and Return of Saturn. Slow tune, not very catchy, but the lyrics are great.
7. Everything In Time (Los Angeles): 5/5. This song and Everything In Time (London) sound completely different, but they are both sad sounding and very beautiful lyrically.
8. You're So Foxy: 4/5. I like it, but it's just not one of my favorites. The verses are completely different from the chorus, and that's what sets it apart. On the inside cover of the CD, it said that this was a possible single, but if it was I don't think it would have even made it into the top 20. It doesn't sound like a song that you would hear on the radio.
9. Panic: 5/5. Love the lyrics, but the tune makes me all jittery. Another song where the verses sound completely different from the chorus.
10. New Friend: 5/5. This is one of my favorites from this CD. It's very reggae sounding, and the tune is so catchy! I think that this should have made it onto Rock Steady. Also, the song 'In My Head' from Rock Steady came from this song.
11. Everything In Time (London): 5/5. A very good song, great lyrics, but it makes me want to cry sometimes.
12. Sailin' On: 4/5. This was a cover song, it was originally by the Bad Brains. I like the way that they have adapted and made it theirs, their version is much slower than the original.
13. Oi To The World: 5/5. A really cool Christmas song. The lyrics are awesome, and though this wasn't their song originally, Gwen sounds truly great singing it.
14. I Throw My Toys Around: 5/5. This song was from the Rugrats movie, and features Elvis Costello. The tune is slow but catchy, and the lyrics are really cute.
15. New & Approved: 4/5. The remix is good, but goes on for too long. Personally, I liked the original better.
16 and 17. A Real Love Survives and A Rock Steady Vibe: 3/5. Catchy beat, but it isn't really by No Doubt. It mostly just has Miss Dynamite and Sweetie Irie rapping, and then occasionally has Gwen saying "A real love survives" in the background. Not my favorites.

1.BND: It's an intro. It uses the very catchy ending for Brand New Day (but without the lyrics). It does its job just fine. 10/10
2.Let's Get Back: Pretty catchy. 9/10
3.Ache: A funny song about toothaches and coding. It's ok. 8/10
4.Get On the Ball: First two or so minutes it's kinda repetitive, but then it finishes with a cool jam session. 9/10
5.Move On: One of the catchiest songs No Doubt has ever made. 10/10
6.Sad For Me: It's one of their slow songs. You might not care for it. 7/10
7.Doormat: Another great one. 9/10
8.Big City Train: This one's ok, not really special. 8/10
9.Trapped In a Box: I like this one, it's good. 8/10
10.Sometimes: Starts slow, then gets a little faster. Gwen's singing makes this one good. 8/10
11.Sinking: Really catchy, love this one. 9/10
12.A Little Something Refreshing: This song is just one of their quick jams. The lyrics are annoying for this one. 7/10
13.Paulina: How many songs does No Doubt have about masturbation? This one's good. 9/10

The caliber of these collaborators reveals the impact that Toots has had on several generations of rockers and rappers, while appearances from reggae icons Bunny Wailer and Marcia Griffiths show the respect granted to the man who might be the music's greatest living vocalist. At the heart of it all is that voice - drenched in soul, rooted in gospel, and still breathtakingly powerful after almost four decades in the spotlight.

What I enjoy most about "True Love" is that Toots' vocals are never drowned out by his guest artists. He has a strong, almost bluesy sort of voice, and he really sounds like he enjoyed making these songs. It really amazes me that he was able to work with so many artists from such varied genres. "Pressure Drop" and "Monkey Man" easily satisfy my need for upbeat, fun, summer/spring sorts of songs while "Careless Ethiopians" and "Blame on Me" paint a landscape drenched in a darker, haunting tone. If I were to name a song that I do not care for too much, however, it would be his collaboration with Shaggy, I think mostly because Shaggy's vocals aren't too great on here.

7.Snakes: This one's ok, not particularly catchy but the guitars on this one are great. 8/10
8.That's Just Me: I love this one. 10/10
9.Squeal: Another really fast and catchy song. I like the horns on this one. 10/10
10.Doghouse: A great finisher. I love it. 10/10
I highly recommend this album if you (1) are interested in hearing what No Doubt sounded like before Tragic Kingdom (2) you really like Sublime (3) you are just interested in high-quality albums that are generally avoided by the mass media. If you really like this one, be sure to check out the self-titled one.

Album Description
Hey baby! Are you ready to be rocked steadily to sleep in the rings of Saturn? No Doubt made it out of the tragic kingdom by always giving their fans something different. Like parents with their children, Gwen and the boys know exactly what's good for you, even if you don't know it yet. These lullaby versions of No Doubt's biggest hits are hella good. Your child is going to love dozing off while wrapped in its delicate little spider-web.Customer Reviews:

When marketing hasn't supported real talent..........2006-09-22
In that period, 702 used to collaborate with Missy Elliott...after "Steelo", i wish to remember also "Beep Me 911" (from Missy's debut album) and the related video...one of the more original and funny videos that i've seen in the last decade.
I'm been truly sorry for the recent group breakup. Honestly, i don't understand why Meelah Williams hasn't still had the opportunity to pursue a solo career, because her voice is really one of the best of the modern R&B scene.

WOAH!!!!! this girls are great...........2004-11-09
my favourite song on the entire album is 'all i want' which is also on the GOOD BURGER SDTK (which i have as well)... this song is great and the girls sound great....
'get it together' was the breakup song in middle school... when a couple breaks up we used to sing that song when they would walk in the hallways (well you all had to be there)...
anyways, 'no doubt' is another hot joint on the album as well...
all three 702 albums (NO DOUBT, 702, and STAR) are some of the best works in my cd collection, especially STAR which is a constant in my car.... too bad the girls are broken up...
get this album to start or finish your r&b collection no disappointments whatsoever....
