Originally formed as the Jazziacs in 1964, Kool & The Gang took their new identity in 1969 when they signed with DeLite Records. Led by bassist Robert "Kool" Bell, this horn-driven band left their jazz roots behind when they combined the rhythmic elements of funk with the party flavor of disco. With no formal lead vocalist, their songs relied more on grooves and instrumental power than pretty lyrics sung by a pretty voice (though this would change in the 1980s when they added lead singer J.T. Taylor). Released in 1973, Wild and Peaceful broke them to a wider crossover audience. Fueled by three killer hit singles--"Funky Stuff," "Jungle Boogie," and "Hollywood Swinging"--the Kool & the Gang sound hits full throttle here. For killer party jams, this is the one. --Tom Vickers

Album Description
Ambience Minimus is the first album of deep relaxation music by Liquid Mind, the name used by Los Angeles composer & songwriter Chuck Wild for his series of very slow stress relief music albums. The music of Liquid Mind is flowing and beautiful, uninterrupted relaxation, the ideal companion for those working long hours at computers terminals who suffer from the effects of stress. The music of Liquid Mind is great music to massage to, great music to create to, great music to go to sleep by, great music for intimate moments with one you love. This functional and peaceful album is also used by parents to quiet hyperactive children, and to assist themselves in going back to sleep in the middle of a difficult night.Customer Reviews:
More soporific than a lecture on differential equations (a good thing!).......2007-05-14
I imagine you could do yoga, relaxation therapy, or massage to this. As for me, I play this before bed and I find I sleep soundly and immediately. Better for you than a prescription and no hangover!

Yes! What I was looking for...........2005-04-22
I have the Chakra Suite CD by Steven Halpern, which I enjoy, and also Ancient Echoes by Halpern and Georgia Kelly (which I'm not as crazy about--I'm afraid a little of Halpern goes a long way.) Reiki: The Light Touch by Merlin's Magic is pretty nice, although there is a repeating melody throughout, so I have been searching for something that has those deep bass notes that are sustained while the more ethereal high notes sound over them, and this CD has them. Others have complained a bit about the wind chimes, but to be truthful I probably wouldn't have noticed them--that's kind of what I hear all the time anyway!
All in all a very soothing CD that I think I will be able to enjoy and meditate with quite often. There are four tracks so one could listen to just one for a quick bit of relaxation or the whole CD if time permits.

Wild and Peaceful.......2006-10-14
1. Funky Stuff
2. Jungle Boogie
3. More Funky Stuff
4. Hollywood Swinging
(I think many other's would concur with my choices - they were heavy favorites with everyone!!)
At the time (1973), Kool and the Gang made a serious dent in the music scene with this effort. "Jungle Boogie" is what landed them on mainstream television, where they were introduced to the nation (on "Soul Train" and NBC-Television). They were a force that had to be reckoned with!
Five stars for Kool and the Gangs "Wild and Peaceful."
The Ultimate Party Band of the '70's.......2006-01-13
EVERY cut on this album is deep. Start off with the whistles and cadence of 'Funky Stuff' and keep tripping to 'Hollywood Swinging'. One of their most overlooked masterpieces in my opinion, is 'Heaven at Once', where Kool has a dialogue with a young boy about who Kool and the Gang is and happiness. The musical interludes between the conversation are beautiful!
Check out the "Ultimate Party Band" before the got James Taylor and went 'commercial'.
"Some people listen to remember, some people listen to forget".
Best album from the greatest funk ensemble ever.......2004-05-05
Classic funk from a very underappreciated band. The Godfather, James Brown, called Kool and the Gang is second favorite funk band [after his own of course]. Kool and the Gang has a positive message, stellar musicians, and no holds barred thrown it down funk.
Give this a listen and see the best of classic funk.
5 stars [classic album!]

Teena Marie - Wild & Peaceful (Expanded Edition)

ASIN: B000CNJEPC |
Product Description
Wild And Peaceful: Expanded Edition was supervised by Teena Marie and is the first of three of her original Motown albums to get the Select remastered and expanded treatment. Weve added three bonus tracks to the albums original classic six: the 12 instrumental flipside of Im A Sucker For Your Love; You Got The Love, a session outtake; and a stunning closer, Every Little Bit Hurts. Though another version of the latter, a cover of Brenda Holloways first Motown hit, was released on a 1994 Teena Marie hits collection, the artist pointedly told us... wait, theres a version with me and Rick. Find that. One listen youll know why she remembered it more than 25 years after it was recorded. Lady Ts tenure at Motown lasted four albums. She made a lasting mark, and her career continues to thrive more than two decades later.Customer Reviews:
Classic debut from Lady T.......2006-02-14
This cd is from Hip-O-Select and is a expanded version of Teena's first Gordy issue lp Wild And Peaceful and is produced by Rick James and Art Stewart. This booklet is very informative in that you get a deeper background of who and what made this album . First of the fact that Motown would not allow Rick James to produce a full Diana Ross cd is nonsense to begin with. This Rick James album would have been the album that if done would have taken the place of Diana's The Boss album (which considering how amazing that is in the first place sort of makes sense) but still A RICK JAMES produced album still sounds amazing to me. And that is where Teena comes in. From having "I'm A Sucker For Your Love" turned down as a Ms. Ross record it now became her first Top 10 Black Single and started a career of over 27 years now.
The hits off this album were "I'm A Sucker For Your Love" number 8 Black and "Don't Look Back" which hit number 91 black. As with all of Teena's albums someone at her labels have NO clue as to what should be issued as singles. As great as "I'm A Sucker" is the B-Side is the even more amazing track "Deja Vu (I've Been Here Before)" and the b-side to "Don't Look Back" was the even better jazz track "I'm Gonna Have My Cake (And Eat It Too)" which is the only Teena written track on the lp. How could Motown not issue "I Can't Love Anymore" as a track. The No clue from labels in what to issue still continues from her new label Cash Money and the fact that they never issued the superior track "My Body's Hungry" off La Dona .
The full 6 track original album runs about 40 minutes long and is worth your time to own this cd. I originally had it solely as a cassette and finally an affordable cd is available. The BONUS tracks are the Instrumental version of "I'm A Sucker For Your Love" , "You Got The Love" a Rick James left over track that was supposed to be issued on a 1983 lp of the same name as then Teena had moved to Epic records. The final track is a early version of "Fire And Desire" in a cover of "Every Little Bit Hurts" with Teena as the main singer and Rick pleading for love on this version. There was an earlier version of this track on her 1994 Motown hits collection I Need Your Loving.
If the Grammy people had a clue to talent in 1979 the diversity of this 6 track original lp would have given her the Grammy for best new artist . This is hopefully the start of Universal putting out her original lps in remastered and expanded form. Lady T better be next!!! A++++ from start to finish.
Fantastic Debut By One Of The Most Important White Female Singers.......2005-12-22
The 12" Instrumental of "I'm Just A Sucker For Your Love", a W & P session outtake called "You Got The Love" (which sounds very similiar to Rick James' "You & I"), and a second W & P session outtake called "Every Little Bits Hurts" (the old Brenda Holloway Motown hit). This version on this remastered cd has Rick James on the end, as a spoken outro. Be sure to get the cd- "I Need Your Lovin': The Best Of Teena Marie" because it has 2 tracks on it that every Teena fan will want for their collection: 1. A demo she recorded before meeting up with Rick James, called "Don't Turn Your Back On Me" (which was written by Teena herself), and 2. "Every Little Bit Hurts" this version does not have Rick James on the end talking. I just love this debut and now that a person doesn't have to spend up to $300 on ebay to get the original cd release, this makes it all worth waiting for. Her next remastered/expanded release will be "Lady T", and a third album of unreleased material- both coming in 2006, so wait for them because she would want you to. God Bless Miss Teena Marie, one of the most important white female singers in music history. This Diva has no competition, and dare I say it.... even Barbra Streisand can't outsing this Lil Vanilla Child.

I Am Surprised!.......2005-03-20
About them "De JuVu" is an okay song and Teena's only self written song here "I'm Gonna Have My Cake (And Eat It Too)" explores her interest in jazz there is nothing here that she wouldn't do better later. So despite it's rarity I would'nt recommend 'Wild And Peaceful' to anyone as a first Teena Marie purchase-it's well constructed but she hasn't found her musical legs yet.Check out 'Irons In The Fire' and 'It Must Be Magic',
both of which are in print and find her taking full control of her music-with much stronger (and often transcendant) results.

Review of songs:
Sucker for Love: infectious duet with Rick James; funky dance track 10/10
Turnin Me On: catchy love song 10/10
Don't Look Back: I never really dug this song after all these years so I can't honestly rate it
DeJa Vu: one of her best ballads, her voice builds to a crescendo as she hits those impossibly high long notes 10/10
I'm Gonna Have My Cake & Eat It Too: great jazz influenced ballad 10/10
I Can't Love Anymore: one of my personal favs, this is a beautiful ballad that also builds to a great ending making full use of Teena's beautiful voice 10/10
**EDITED 11/04/05 - calling all Teena Marie lovers!!! Go to the Hip-O Select website, they are reissuing this disc on 11/18/05!!!The site also states that they will subsequently release 3 other earlier releases from Lady T. I've reserved mine, you better get yours while they last!!!
