Editorial Reviews
The debut release from a 26-year-old Californian who blends jazz and soul with a smokey ease reminiscent of Sade, Deniece Williams, and Minnie Riperton is a satisfying album. Evans wrote all the lyrics, which often examine the gap between the way things should be and the way they are. The first single is "Reality," a jazzy, vibraphone-flavored track that finds Evans contrasting the world of poverty and violence outside her L.A. window with her dreamed-of utopia where she can find "my peace of mind." The likely follow-up single is "Seeing Is Believing," which boasts an irresistible singalong chorus, the stern admonition, "Don't say you love me if you're leaving," and a dreamy scat interlude where Evans seems lost between anger and desire. "Adriana Evans" marks the arrival of a major talent. --Geoffrey Himes

ADRIANA IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!! Get El Camino NOW!!!.......2007-04-05
It's hard to find a down track on El Camino. The music is tight, and Adriana's voice is on point as well. I'm still absorbing the lyrics, but i'm sure they're great as well.
Man, I'd love to see her live so much. She has a website, but it appears to not be up yet. The cd I got was an import and it took me a few weeks to finally get it, but it was well worth the wait and the extra $$.
Now, why Adriana is not a household name is beyond me. She's just so awesome. Her music is so layered and richly textured. She produces such solid stuff. The only way her name is going to get out there, is if we fans start spreading the word and making radio stations play her, and ask everyone to buy her stuff. So let's do it!!!
Adriana when are you going to tour?!?!

A solid album, at last........2007-03-25
"Hey now" is a bright shuffling dancer, "Calling Me" and "Never Kne"' are mid tempo floaters.
"Before You" is a slinky beat driven mid tempo foot taper which shows her vocals at their best, whilst "Underneath The Stars" and "Bluebird" are big beat mid tempo head nodders.
The funky dancer "Undercover Lover" and the shuffling mid tempo "All For love" are also highlights on this strong album.
Give this CD a spin, you will not regret !
I do hope that this fantastic album will be released VERY SOON in US !

Customer Reviews:
Look for the new Royal Opera recording.......2006-12-17
This legendary performance has only been available on private (i.e., pirate) recordings in poor sound--the pitch on this Myto version is far form perfect. For anyone who wants to hear the official tapes, they have just been released by the Royal Opera on its own in-house record label.
I don't think Amazon will carry that any time soon, so for the time being let me say that I dissent somewhat form the raves already posted here. Giulini and the orchestra are magnificent. vickers is in great early voice, and yet as much as I admire this unique artist, his style is far from being idiomatic Verdi. Tito Gobbi is hard of voice but doesn't shout too much, and opera fans will already know how they feel aobut the fast beat in his voice. Christoff gives us one of his legendary roles--A Boris Godunov transposed to Spain as Philip II--but don't expect Italian style from hi, either. It hardly matters, needless to say. Fedora Barbieri is hard-pressed to encompass all of Eboli's high notes, but she and Gobbi are true Veridans. Too bad she sounds rather tough to be a seductress.
The real caveat is Gre Brouwenstiyn as Elisabetta. She, too, is devoid of Verdian style, but the big problem is her weak, rather gray voice and its hollow tones. One gets the sense of a soprano using her half voice during rehearsal; there's little passion or impact. She hits al the notes and she's never less than sincere, but in its rave for this performance The Gramophone critic uses the word 'aristocratic' so he doesn't have to tell the truth--Brouwenstiyn is close to insipid. With these cautions in mind, it's certainly true that this mono recording from 1958 captures a famous night at the opera for posterity.
The best Don Carlo!.......2003-09-23
Giulini's conducting is excellent. Gobbi is by far the best Rodrigo I've heard- his death scene is breathtaking, and the interplay between him and Christoff in their second act scene is as good as it gets. Vickers is in great form- a beautiful voice, combined with superb musicianship, and Barbieri's rendition is a pleasant surprise after her '56 recording, where she tried singing the role with many notes which were too high for her; here she concentrates on interpreting the part, and omits the troublesome notes- a fine interpretation. Brouwenstein doesn't have a large voice, and is sometimes drowned by Vickers, but nevertheless does not detract from the overall excellence of the recording. The sound quality is surprisingly good. I think that this is the best of all the recordings of Don Carlo.
A great performance of Verdi's masterpiece.......2000-02-22
Jon Vickers is in excellent voice as Don Carlo. His distinctive and clarion tone lends a sort of nobility as well as passion into the part, and he produces what is probably some of his smoothest singing ever. Gre Brouwenstijn's Elisabeth de Valois may not possess the ideal weight and vocal heft for the soaring lines that Verdi wrote for the part, and her phrasing can be a trifle bumpy at times (as in "Non pianger, mia compagna"). However, she is able to compensate these minor deficiencies with a beautiful tone and great depth in feeling so that her portrayal of the tormented Queen is both convincing and touching.
Boris Christoff's Philip II is simply magnificent. His characterisation of the part is not only beyond reproach, it has set a lofty benchmark for all subsequent interpretors. Through his marvellous abilities as a singing-actor, he invests every word with meaning and integrate each and every aspect of the role into a three-dimensional character that comes vividly to life. His singing of the great Act IV aria is sublime and intensely moving. Tito Gobbi, in strong voice, makes an earnest Rodrigo. Like Christoff, he is the consummate stage animal and every phrase he sings is pulsating with meaning, energy and conviction.
Michael Langdon as the Grand Inquisitor not only commands the sense of authority which is crucial to the part, he also has strong low notes and the requisite vocal colouring to set his scenes alight. He and Christoff succeed in making their confrontation both terrifying and full of tension - a virtual vocal and mental tug-of-war. Fedora Barbiera may lack the high notes for Princess Eboli (and she makes heavy weather of the florid sections of her Veil Song). Nevertheless, she attacks the music with verve (rather than finesse and sensitivity) and is, dramatically, a force to be reckoned with. Joseph Rouleau's sonorous and smooth-sounding Monk, Jeannette Sinclair's lively Tebaldo, Edgar Evans's secure Count of Lerma and Ava June's soaring Voice of Heaven complete the outstanding cast. The Covent Garden chorus sings with feeling and style and provides a luscious vocal backdrop in the crowd scenes.
In the pit, Guilini and the orchestra work wonders. This is a finely-shaped reading that is suffused with passion, beauty and drama, and thus makes a most eloquent case for Verdi's sprawling masterpiece. They also provide excellent support for the singers, too. Despite the length of the opera, the drama and tension never sag and the musical interpretation and orchestral playing themselves contribute much to the triumph of the production.
This is not only a document of great historical significance, such the greatness of the performance that it should not be missed by anyone who has an interest in Italian opera.

Product Description
NEO SOUL PIONEER ADRIANA EVANS BREAKS LONG HIATUS WITH NEW LP NOMADIC After almost seven years since Adriana came on the scene with her groundbreaking self titled debut release, the pioneer in the Neo Soul genre is finally back with an amazing collection of material entitled Nomadic. The title refers to the nomadic lifestyle that Adriana has been living since she disappeared from the music industry. Adrianas first release was no doubt ahead of its time coming out before a lot of the Genres breakthrough artists (Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Etc) Adrianas new set once again is ahead of its time breaking down genre lines with an incredible mix of musical references as diverse as hip hop, soul, jazz, blues, afro Cuban, samba, folk and heavy rock influences.Customer Reviews:
"Nomadic".......2007-05-18
Great Work!.......2006-10-04
Nomadic .......2006-08-14
What I hear is an artist who stretched her wings and took music fans on a ride with her to the place that so obviously had a positive impact on her creatively. Her beautiful voice is the same but on this disc, she took a lot of risks with the music that for me, as a fan paid off - this is a really good collection of songs that shows a lot of growth in Adriana as an artist, songwriter & vocalist.
My standout tracks are:
I HAD A DREAM - trippy, very melodic beats
REMEMBER THE LOVE (SAMBA SOUL MIX) - the title says it all, this is a great song that successfully mixed elements of samba & soul along with Adriana's excellent vocals
IN SEARCH OF - starts off really spare with just her voice, a guitar & drums then moves into a funkier breakdown midway through that features electric guitars, organ and drums
MIDNIGHT IN BAHIA - although the lyrics are a tad monotonous, there is something about the melody & beat of this song that drew me in and kept me listening
7 DAYS - highlight of the disc, this track is pure funk! I can't believe that I just saw the video for this song in 2006! Adriana managed to convey the right amount of vocal agility in this song without screaming or going off key with the angrier passages
MORNING LIGHT - beautiful song that really showcases her voice
I was really sad to see that so many previous reviewers disliked this disc in comparison to her debut but frankly the sound IS different but the artist is the same. I'd recommend this disc to Adriana's fans who love her voice and are curious about her sophomore effort but be prepared to accept a different sound than what you heard on the debut.
NOMADIC..... Another XL-ent Piece of Artistry.......2006-01-16
From beginning to end this CD has you feeling many different emotions. Her writing and vocal skill cannot be compared. I really appreciate her uniqueness.
Her lyrics are exceptional and her vocal skill and arrangements are unlike any other.
When listening to the CD, listen with your Heart and Mind.
Peace and Blessings,
Good album. But....at times, it can be boring........2005-02-18
From the moment the intro drops, I had already started to feel a sense of contrived attributes in the album. Adriana holds a mock interview with an unnamed person talking about the different kinds of music she grew up with.
****************************************************************
Dude: so what kind of music you grew up listening to?
Adriana: oh i listen to everything. like rock, soul, afro-cuban salsa, brazilian samba...
Dude: WORD?
Adriana: yeah i mean its was just all in my house just everywhere you look there was music ya know, um
Dude: all that stuff just kinda, kinda comes out when you do...
Adriana: oh yeah im good to do like a afro latin rock song you know?
Dude: WORD!?
Adriana: its just...just....you know its its all the same thing to me
Dude: THAT'S INCREDIBLE!
****************************************************************
DUDE! ...SHUT UP! i literally wanted to reach through the earbuds on my i-pod and strangle the guy who was on embellishment overkill with the "word?" and the "that's incredible" comments.
nevertheless, the album rolls on along into the second track....
- Remember Love: This song opens the album with a nice piece of music with a tropical island twist that is refreshing, sweet and blissful.
- Through His Eyes: Another airy piece of music that keeps the pace of the mood where the prior left off. Good song.
- In Search of: A decent song, but repetitive and not very inspiring. Boring, if you will.
- What It Is: This track is reminiscent of 70's bluesy/funk/rock music. A good sound but somewhat misplaced in the scheme of the airy mood the album started me off with.
- Something: Another bluesy, funk track that can be addictive and infectious after a few rotations in the car with the volume in high decibels.
- I Had A Dream: The music is great, but the song itself sounds like filler.
- Midnight In Bahia: I like the haunting mood this track has attached to it. But Adriana hits writers block with this song. More filler.
- 7 Days: This is a GREAT, great track right here. Once again, it's reminiscent of 70's Rock/funk band WAR. Definately worth rotating on repeat while driving at high velocity at 2am on the highway.
- Morning Light: This is a nice song by Adriana. Pretty piano playing, but sounds constricted to one pattern of melody.
- I Hear Music: The music on this song brings the mood back to where the album initially started you off with. Airy, heartfelt 'sunny' feelings. But again, Adriana hits writers block on this track.
- Rollin' On: What I love about this song is Adriana's opinion on the current state of music as well as her passion to continue making what she feels is music in it's true essence. Good song.
- Former Self: This is another great song by Adriana. Far more inspirational than 'In Search Of'. And I like the reggae elements in the music. This was a good song to end the album with.
Overall, Nomadic is the kind of album you would want to take with you to the Bahamas, on a cruise or maybe to the beach on a sunny, warm day. The album is filled with various musical elements from the islands along with a few moments of edgy funk and bluesy sounds as well. So altogether it has a nice blend of everything.
The only real problem i have with the album is the limited range the music doesn't overcome. Although, I enjoy much of the music on the album.... one would think that if an artist spent so much of their time during their hiatus in different countries, soaking up different sounds and moods in music...they would return to songwriting with more of an eclectic, instrumental and "inprovisonational" range in their music. I also would have loved to hear Adriana with other producers aside from dredd scott. He's a good beat maker and producer. But to hear the true nature of Adriana's voice, I think the matching of her talents laced alongside those of different producers will showcase her as being more than what she appears to be and sounds.
Otherwise, the album is a very good follow up to her first.
But do not expect a part 2 of her debut album, in Nomadic. The edgier music will throw you for a loop if you ride your expectations on what you know of Adriana from the first album. So you will have to dumb down those expectations and keep an extremely open ear to Nomadic.
If you can do that, then i recommend that you do not pass this gem up.
