In the last year or so, Goapele has grown to become the Bay Area's homegrown neo-soul phenom. With her rich, lustrous voice and production shimmering in soul and jazz tones, this funkadelic torch singer also comes hip-hop-approved thanks to her connections with the Hieroglyphics and producer Amp Live. On one level, even her fondest fans have to admit that the singer can slide into familiar ground at times, especially on the Mary J. Blige-like "Ease Your Mind." And there's more than a touch of Jill Scott soulistics on a few songs.

Yet Goapele is no cookie-cut crooner, either. On cuts like "Closer," she's sublimely, seductively intimate, while her pairing with Soulive on "Romantic" is another winner as she confides, "you're so fucking romantic/I just can't stand it" with Soulive grinding out their groove. In a field thick with competitors, Goapele carves out an admirable niche for herself.

I remember hearing the single Closr on the radio and I was like oh ok. This is a very good CD from beginning to end. It's easy listening and smooth. Very good to have in the car. If you like Amil Larrieux then you'll like this CD. My favorite tracks are Romantic, Things Don't Exist and Back to You.

This cd is joyous and beautiful - sad and impassioned. Goapele sings about life and love - the good and the bad. Her music is emotional and real. It is also transfixing and almost hypnotic. She is an artist with substance and definitely someone who belongs at the forefront of the music industry. If you are tired of all of the prostitute type singers with their degrading purposeless music then this is the artist for you.

The best song is the first...i was disappointed because although the first song is the song i bought this cd for i was disappointed with the lack of direction and vocal intensity of the other songs. an album strictly about relationships, break ups and a man is not my idea of a great album...goapale is strikingly beautiful but wanted to see some of the beauty within - that usually comes from what's written with pen and paper..didn't win me over with this one...

Just saw her perform at Yoshi's in Oakland last night and her voice is amazing. She has great energy and was wonderful to watch. Her album is great. I still look forward to hearing it when I put roration in the CD player. I look forward to next album, from the concert last night it should be something that you will love if you loved her last album. She makes me proud of the talent coming from the "O" cause that's where I'm from. We have MC Hammer, En Vogue, Ledisi, Pointer Sisters and Now GOAPELE!!!!

I was recommended this cd by an online friend of mine and I'm sooooooooo glad she told me about Goapele. I just lover her voice and music. I love each and every song on the album and think everyone should own it!!
