With the "Jammin' Oldies" format spreading across America, not to mention the current proliferation of dance-floor-ready DJ discs, the time is right for superstar morning-radio jock Tom Joyner to weigh in. The music on Joyner's Old School Mix is actually cut up by veteran remixer Steve "Silk" Hurley, whose tempo shifts are occasionally sloppy, but who more often executes baaad segues such as the one from Slave's "Slide" into Heatwave's "Groove Line." Whether you're a fan of the no-rap approach or a hip-hop kid in need of deep-dish '70s and early-'80s stompers, this is a good party to crash. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars Brings the good times back .......2007-05-07

This is a must CD for anyone who was brought up in the 70's 80's or 90's It brings back so many memories from the good old days and has you dancing in your car, living room, anywhere you maybe listening. Musicians do not make music like this anymore they copy this type of music. Everyone should have this CD

5 out of 5 stars Good Stuff.......2006-11-10

This CD is great! The songs all flow into each other to provide a smooth continuous dose of old school funk. It went over great at a party that I went to, and it plays just as well on that long drive to Vegas! I highly recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Chicago old school!.......2006-11-03

Old school Chicago style. My hometown! Used to listen to Tom joyner way back when. Good choice of tunes!

4 out of 5 stars Brilliantly mix set of classics.......2004-03-08

I really can't agree with some of the other reviews of this album saying that certain tracks are tired, and sloppily-mixed. Sure, some of the tracks are classics that you will have heard before, but there are several leftfield choices and quite a few real gems. Steve 'Silk' Hurley's mix uses Protools' trickery, tuning and filters to make the transition between tracks either seamlessly or cleverly. Although he is better know for his house tracks/remixes, there's nothing sloppy about this CD at all. Despite the second volume still being my favourite, this first one remains a perfect party-starter, and I can't wait for the next volume to come out.

2 out of 5 stars Technically okay, with the Hurley touch, but...........2000-06-13

....how many times can you get away with putting "More Bounce To the Ounce", "Dazz", "Slide" and "Funkin' For Jamaica" (which, like I said earlier, is ubiquitous) on ol' Skool mixes and expect to sound fresh? I am positively surprised that "Atomic Dog" and "Genius Of Love" is not on this, this being a bucket of cliches...find something new, we're wearing these jams out.
