5 out of 5 stars Classic Rock From Funkadelic!!.......2006-09-15

From start to finish this album grew on me. From "Commin' Round The Mountain" let's you draw your own conclusions--be it Eddie Hazel or Mike Hampton, or Gary Shider, this is "Guitar Player's Album". Most excellent work. The "newer" version of "Cosmic Slop" is just as funky but a heavier rock feel. My hats off to Michael "Kidd Funkadelic" Hampton! he is a real prodigy--He ain't Eddie Hazel but he's a Funkadelic through and through! you cannot take that from "Kidd" (now you know where Prince got his name Kid from in Purple Rain--he ain't no Eddie Hazel either but he's good). "You Scared The Love Out Of Me" is done in true Funkadelic form tight music explicit lyrics and a wild imagination may even get your girl goin'! Very good piece of work guys--way to stick it to Westbound--Great start on warner Brothers...

5 out of 5 stars Interplanetary Funksmanship.......2005-01-31

Wow. This disc kicks off with a psychedelic funk explosion and only loses intensity when you turn down the volume (which I wouldn't recommend - Funkadelic is best when cranked). Fantastic writing and musicianship coupled with clever lyrics is something we've come to expect from George Clinton, and this album is one of his best. "Jollies" is a very much guitar-driven affair, with no real horns and minimal keyboard presence, and Funkadelic's guitarists are more than qualified to be your sonic tourguides on this funkalogical safari. A must-have for those whose @$$es need a good shaking.

4 out of 5 stars Funkadelic's major label debut (3.5 STARS).......2004-03-31

You know a band is classic if even their lower-key recordings are excellent. Funkadelic's first album on a major label is just that: excellent. Most reviewers, fans, and critics will dote upon the more famous of the tracks- "Comin Round the Mountain," "Smokey," "Hardcore Jollies," and a live take on Eddie Hazel's phenominal "Cosmic Slop"- and deservingly so. They're are all great tracks and album highlights. But the entire album is consistently funky and fun. Parliament/Funkadelic is one of the most underrated musical entities of all-time (though I still find Funkadelic far better than their horn-based, radio-friendly counterparts), and even though this is no "One Nation" or "Mothership Connection," it still proves the staying power of George Clinton's band of funkateers and freaks.

It won't matter if this is your first exposure to the band or not; it's still catchier than wildfire and you'll be hooked for life. Check out their early "Westbound" stuff, too. Overall: 7 out of 10.

5 out of 5 stars YOU SCARED ME BABY!.......2003-11-10

I LOVE THAT SONG!
I LOVE GEORGE CLINTON!
MY FAVORITE ON THIS CD IS, YOU SCARED THE LOVIN' OUTTA ME!

5 out of 5 stars another great funkadelic record.......2003-10-29

man funkadfelic was the greatest rock band in my opinion and this just improves the legacy the first song comin round the mountain is hot with a solo from eddie hazel that's on fire his fans should check this out and the title track hardcore jollies is another instrumental where eddie goes for his includes adolescent funk with bernie doing his keyboard wizardry and just this man was a keyboard genius and made p funk the way it is with eddie and also contains a live version of cosmic slop which is okay and other cuts include smokey, and you scared the lovin outta me all classics and worth the money if you like p funk.

5 out of 5 stars Not Just Knee Deep!.......2005-06-08

Not only Hardcore Jollies but hardcore funk as well. The bass and guitar provide a thick and layered sound while Bernie Worell brings a celestial quality to the album on the keyboards. This isn't Parliament and if you're looking for anything like "Flashlight" you won't hear it here. This is raw uncut funk accomponied by some of the best drum work I've heard on any album. Soulmate is the song where it all comes together. The musicianship is uncanny. This is one of my favourite albums. I love it.

good to hear eddie on the first track his solo was a blessing. michael hampton goes off on the title track. but he'll never take eddie's place. the whole cd was tight except for cosmic slop live sucks. this was to be the last funkadelic cd that featured the talents or at least the names of fuzzy, ray, grady, and calvin. and also of that of glen goins. but the myth lived on and ain't died yet.

5 out of 5 stars still funkin.......2001-08-15

to be honest after the funk treasure atomic dog george, and the whole p-funk mob played out, still if you are a p-funk fan this is a must listen, george continued to give up the funk even though white, and black radio refused to play these jams, true some were played but only once, and hearing these songs back then was like catching haley's comet, the jam quickie is tight about a promisuious female, the lyrics, luv it and blackbyrd kicks in a hot solo maggot brain style, silly milla meter is a classic underrated tune also mudbone was at his best here stealing the spotlight this set up the stage for the mudbone, and gary shider cd that never came out, man's best friend has edddie hazel ripping through the song, hey good lookin features the first miss black america vanessa williams, not a bad cd some hit-some don't a shame these lost jams never got heard they would have sure rescued us from the placebo syndrome, or the punk wave act in the 80's.
