If this were your first exposure to Eric Clapton, a bit of bewilderment would be in order. This is the legendary guitar icon? This is (as his early apostles once proclaimed) God? Ranging from the mid-'80s through the late '90s, The Clapton Chronicles owes less to the groundbreaking blues-rock of Clapton's '60s and '70s classics than to the polished-to-a-glare pop of Phil Collins, who produced one of the tracks included in this 14-song anthology. His reinterpretation of his greatest recording--the once-gripping, now-placid "Layla"--perhaps best illustrates Clapton at middle-age: Who wants to bask in his darkest period? Not Clapton, who converts his surging, purging charge into a soothing stroll. And perhaps not fans of such docile MOR fare as "My Father's Eyes," "Tears in Heaven," and the two new tracks, "Blue Eyes Blue" and "Get Lost." --Steven Stolder

I truly enjoyed the Clapton Chronicles. It is a very good mix of some of his best music. It seemed as though he was going back in time, from current emotions back to his youth. Love it!!!

5 out of 5 stars Clapton brings it home.......2006-11-06

It's Slow Hand at his best; what else does anyone need to know?
There's plenty of classic rock in "She's Waiting", "Bad Love" and "It's in the Way that You Use it" and a gentler, more reflective Clapton in "River of Tears", "My Father's Eyes" and "Tears in Heaven". For the fans of Runaway Bride, you can find him crooning the beautifully sad "Blue Eyes Blue". A personal favorite of any newly broken heart. Clapton's voice is both dusty and silken at times; soothing with just a little edge to it. Not a song on here you wouldn't pay a lot more to hear.

5 out of 5 stars Soulful, Funky and Soothing.......2006-08-31

Eric Clapton speaks to the heart and soul and makes you smile and bop every time you listen. He takes you out of your current space and into other places, leaving you enriched by the journey.

Not to be confused with the collection Songs Inspired by the Chronicles of Narnia, this album is Harry Gregson-Williams's instrumental score for the movie. Marking the composer's third collaboration with director Andrew Adamson (after both Shrek flicks), this score also is one of the more mature offerings from Gregson-Williams, best known for his work on family films. The music is lush and assured, if a bit predictable. Indeed, it fits squarely in the current style popular for big epics--even using (on a few tracks) the vocals of Lisbeth Scott, which fall halfway between those of Enya and the Cocteau Twins' Liz Fraser (both of whom, uncoincidentally, appeared on the Lords of the Rings soundtracks). The CD concludes with four songs, with Gregson-Williams cowriting Scott's "Where." On "Can't Take It In," Imogen Heap's vocal acrobatics eerily recall those of the Cranberries' Dolores O'Riordan, while Alanis Morissette's "Wunderkind" is an inspirational, almost girl-powerish track written from the point of view of the movie's Lucy. But the best of these songs is "Winter Light" by Tim Finn, four minutes of understated, piano-driven melancholia. Look for it tucked near the very end of the CD. Note that the soundtrack comes also as a two-CD special edition . The second disc is a DVD that includes galleries of film stills and concept art, a featurette about the recordings of the score and a making-of featurette. There's also a segment in which the (mostly) Christian bands involved in the Songs Inspired by... album talk about their involvement in that project. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

5 out of 5 stars Great soundtrack.......2007-06-26

I bought this for my wife. My wife, my kids and I all love it.

5 out of 5 stars Sharing with Others.......2007-05-23

This movie was a big success at our home. We saw it at the local theaters and decided to buy it upon release. We also have purchased other copies to give to friends.

We look forward to the future movies of the other 5 books.

5 out of 5 stars Depth of quality.......2007-05-20

I enjoyed the soundtrack immensely, except for the last three songs which have vocals. This is much better than the movie. I just wish they would list the companies would list the musician's that performed the music.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant minds.......2007-03-14

This is one of the best soundtrack I've ever listened to.From the serene "Lucy Meets Mr.Tumnus"to the soaring theme found in many of the tracks,Harry-Greggson Williams does a masterful job at creating a magical Narnia.I listened to this nonstop when I first got it,and I still listen to it more than any other soundtrack.
The four(three really, because Winter Light is utterly detestable)songs at the end are reason enough to buy this CD."I Can't Take It In" is brilliant with Imogen Heap's incredible talent."Wunderkind" is so artful and expertly written,it has become one of my favorite songs.
So this soundtrack meets all the requirements for a great soundtrack-great theme, amazing creativity, and stellar songs.

4 out of 5 stars Piano, Vocal and Guitar Music from Narnia.......2007-03-10

This book has eight of the songs from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Some of the songs, such as Evacuating London and Father Christmas, include some fairly advanced musical notation. Evacuating London, Lucy Meets Mr. Tumnus, A Narnia Lullaby and Father Christmas do not include guitar notation. However, this is authentic Narnia music, as composed by Harry Gregson-Williams. The first eight pages consist of colored pictures from the movie. The only thing that would make this music book even better would be inclusion of The Battle, which we are still looking for.

4 out of 5 stars Awesome music, but crappy compilation and sequencing.......2007-04-05

Ostensibly a career spanning summary of Rush's recordings for the Mercury label, "Chronicles" seems like a chance for PolyGram to cash in after the group departed for the Atlantic label in 1989, but overall it works to a degree charting the group's growth and evolution over a 15 year span. And while that's fine for a casual listener or someone looking for a starting point, it can be disorienting for a longtime fan accustomed to their album sequencing to hear a track like "Freewill" transition to "The Spirit of Radio." The result is somewhat jarring and feels wrong. That occurs frequently here and fans used to the sequencing on their albums are not going to like that; further it smacks of the lack of involvement the group probably had in putting this compilation together. "Chronicles" does add live tracks that does show the band's evolution and growth from hard rock to progressive rock to synthesized rock. Fans of Rush aren't likely to buy "Chronicles" as they likely already have their previous recordings, and believe me, they'll enjoy the more familiar sequencing, so "Chronicles" likely will appeal to newer fans or casual listeners. As for me I'd rather listen to "Power Windows" or "Permanent Waves" in their original format. "Chronicles" is a nice starting point but not much more.

5 out of 5 stars remastered version ever coming....?.......2006-04-28

This is by far the best Rush compilation that has been produced but the problem is that the sound on this recording is not nearly as good as the sound on their other compilations Retrospective I,II and Spirit of Radio. This is mainly due to the fact that it is not remastered. Does anyone know if they plan on releasing a remastered version of Chronicles any time in the future ? I saw the 2005 release of Chronicles (Sound + Vision) with the DVD added but I didn't see any reference to the CD portion of it being remastered.

5 out of 5 stars The only Rush anothology you'll need.......2006-03-28

Chronicles was the first. All others (Retrospective I&II, Gold) are copies and like a copy less focused than the original. To illustrate, the 2-CD Gold shows how flawed Retrospective I was. The classic Working Man left off Retrospective is on Gold.

However, it was always on Chronicles. Yes it may not have Xanadu (a Rush classic) or By Tor and the Snowdog that was on Retrospective I, but due to their long running lengths, classics had to be left off such as Working Man, Lakeside Park, What You're Doing(better live), and A Passage to Bangkok. All those are on Chronicles

Chronicles gives two tracks for each of their albums with three tracks from Moving Pictures (one track from Presto - Show Don't Tell is another plus) and one track from their live albums (All The World's A Stage, Exit Stage Left, and Show of Hands) that were not on their original CDs due to time constraints. None of those live albums are represented on Retrospective I&II or Gold.

The remastering on this has been described by some reviewers as low. That illustrates the problem with current remastering. It has to be mastered LOUD. Retrospective CDs are compressed at the top ends and boosted at the low ends. Chronicles on the other hand, has a nice dynamic early 90's mastering by Bob Ludwig. So you turn up the volume control a tad to hear it. Isn't that why it's there?

Good liner notes (which isn't also on the other Rush comps), excellent sequencing and nice remastering make this the only Rush anthology you'll ever need!

4 out of 5 stars Rush - 'Chronicles' (Mercury) 2-CD.......2006-02-03

Two discs, total of 28 tracks, spanning the band's career from 1974-1989.Couldn't say for anyone else, but my favorites here are "Finding My Way",the deep album cut "Lakeside Park",the arena rock classic "2112","A Farewell To Kings","Closer To The Heart"(believe they FINALLY grew tired of playing this tune in concert anymore),"Red Barchetta","Subdivisions" and "Red Sector A".Really think that 'Chronicles' is aimed at the more 'casual' Rush fans, you know patrons that may not have that many Rush CD's in their stash.A keeper.

5 out of 5 stars Totally Cool.......2006-02-02

I've always been a fan of their music. I don't know what I like more about them, is it their mystics on life in music? Or is it a fact that three, I mean THREE members can totally lay into a track, or even sell out any performance. The incredible guitarist Alex Lifeson, never gets old, the multi-tallented bassist-keyboardist Geddy Lee, and of course his high toned voice, plus keeping the beat and every beat Neil Peart, just awesome. Well anyways all the tracks on this album I like, there is nothing on this album I despise at all. From your favorites like Tom Sawyer or even Red Barchetta, both from good previous album 'Moving Pictures'. You also got crowd favorites 2112, or even Bastille Day. If you think this album is good, most likely you'll end up getting the rest of them, and it's well worth it. I strictly recommend getting 'Caress Of Steel' and also '2112'. And if you like the later years I would recommend even 'Signals' and even 'Grace Under Pressure' along with 'Moving Pictures', hell like I said, just get all of them, they're good, like this one is.

1 out of 5 stars Surprised it is not labeled: Explicit.......2007-06-05

I had never heard of Gym Class Heroes until "Cupid's Chokehold" came out. I heard it on the radio while driving with my young son. We both loved the song, so I decided to check out this CD. I made sure it didn't have the Explicit Lyric label before purchasing. For some reason, I decided to listen while my son was not present to make sure it was alright for him to listen to. The entire CD is full of Explicit lyrics. The "F" word is used over and over again. I have no idea how this slipped through the cracks, but this is Absolutely not a clean CD by any means. I was very disappointed with my purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Solid Indie Hip-hop Album........2007-05-18

I started listening to Gym Class Heroes a few years back, in mid 2005 I believe, and absolutely fell in love. I am a diehard hip-hop head at heart, loving emcees like Rakim, Eminem, Saul Williams, The Roots and the like...So the fact that this kid was saying some of the best, most original lines I've ever heard in my entire life amazed me. One of the greatest hip-hop lines I have ever heard is still "Catch me in the source with 5 pills next to my name; like f*ck 5 mics I want 5 vic fame".

On top of this, I am also a diehard indie fan...So finding this band, a deffinate mix of both genres blew my mind. I listened to it non stop, saw every show that came within 120 miles of my home town and became obsessed.

Then of course they blew up. Cupids Chokehold came out, and every pop kid under the sun fell in love...I had to hate them, for at least a while. Typically when this happens with a band, I lose all interest and never listen to htem again. I expected the same of GCH.

But it didn't happen. Despite the fact you can't say your a fan without getting laughed at, I cannot help it. Any hip-hop fan that talks (S word I can't say) would be shut up in a half a second if they heard a song like Pillmatic or Shoot Down The Stars, and any emo/indie fan wouldn't be able to say another word after hearing 7 weeks or even Papercuts.

If you are a music fan, you have to give these guys a listen. They are one of the best genre bending bands I have ever heard, and I believe have the ability to keep coming for a good 5 years.

4 out of 5 stars Steve Windwood always delivers, that`s for sure.......2006-01-24

Steve Windwood has his own style. There is a flair of "urbanism" on most of the tracks on this Cd. Some track`s doesn`t grip you at first, but there is something there, if you take your`e time an do some, let`s call it "active listning" where you open your`e senses and "let it go" . When you go through this CD, is like an interesting journey from the best of his solo stuff. The best track is the last one Track 10. Talking back to the night. Anyway let`s take it from the begining. Track 1 Wake me up on judgment day, is an ok opener, and sound`s like it`s from the 80 ths (and it is), with synthezeisers, guitariffs, and funky bassplayi, which creates a solid and interesting soundpicture. Track 2 While you see a chance is a nice one too, with a great syntezeisers play all trough the song. Track 3 Vacant Chair is a scene change, moody with a releaxable atmosphere all trough.. Track 4 Help me Angel, is a more up beat song with a optimistic theme, with a refrain who delivers. Windwood`s vocal have never sounded better. Track 5 My Love`s Leavin is a little letdown in a way in the beginning. The Windwood`s voice is good, but it realy doesn`t take off before the refrain. And from there it`s Windwood magic all through the song. Track 6 Valerie is a an upbeat and uptempo song with a great rythm which realy set the standards how a good popsong should deliver. Track 7 Arc of a Diver is an okei song. It has a walk along rythm all trough which makes you remember it. Track 8 Higher Love with it`s carrebiean touch, have the x-factor when it come`s to good craftmanship from Windwood`s craftmanship. Track 9 Spanish Dancer is a let down. To slow sometimes a bore listning. But then it come`s Track 10 Talking back to the Night, which realy delivers in every musical and vocal department`s. Closed your eyes when you listen to it, and you see colors, urban life, nightlife, and it will certainly bring you back to the 80 ths. Steve Windwood always delivers. That`s fore sure !

2 out of 5 stars Just a tease.......2005-06-10

This release only covers Winwood's work on Island. It is missing most of the key tracks from his solo career. An all encompassing retrospective is needed. In fact, I've saved Steve the time and picked the songs

Talking Back to the Night
While You See a Chance
Don't You Know What the Night can do
Valerie
Finer Things
Freedom Overspill
Roll With it
Why Don't we Live Together
Higher Love
Back in the High Life
One and Only Man
Lord of the Streets
Holding On
Vacant Chair

You can see by the songs listed here and missing from Chronicles, that this cd is merely a sampler and not a true "Chroncile" If you are looking for a "greatest hits" you could probably buy Roll With It, Back in the Highlife, and Arc of a Diver.

This cd is ok, but nowhere near what it needs to be.

4 out of 5 stars A decent sampler but scratches the surface........2005-03-04

This is a wonderfully diverse sample of Winwoods 20 years of music making (at the time of this release) and all of the tracks are great. "Higher Love" was a well-deserved hit and "My Loves Leavin" is pure ecstacy. Yet there are far more lesser known songs on here that are also enjoyable like "Vacant Chair" and "Wake Me Up ON Judgement Day". The tracks from his 1982 "Talking Back" album are redone with a 1987 production and are great but I would've liked to hear them in their original versions. oVERALL this is a very good CD but there are a lot more great songs that are completely overlooked on this collection. It is however a great purchase to start off with or to introduce a newcomer to Steve's music!

3 out of 5 stars mixed bag from 1977-1986.......2004-12-13

I have to say from the start I wouldn't class myself as a Steve Winwood fan - I liked his work with Spencer Davis Group and Traffic but solo he's been a bit hit and miss.

The collection proves that point - the recently sampled 'Valerie' is here; alongside his 1980s hit 'Higher Love' (which sounds dated and a bit naff now). There's an awful lot of rubbish on here which shows a remarkable lack of imagination from Winwood and his usual collaborator Jennings.

I welcome a CD which brings together the three (excellent) tracks which were collaborations between Winwood and Viv Stanshall though - 'Vacant Chair' from 1977; 'Arc of a Diver' from 1980; and 'My Love's Leavin'' from 1986. These tracks are terrific and - for me - worth the price of the album alone. I'll pass on the rest.

3 out of 5 stars Could have been better........2004-05-16

"Chronicles" isn't really a "Best Of", or a "Greatest Hits", but more of a sampling of his best songs. It does include "While You See A Chance", "Valerie", and "Higher Love", but at just 10 tracks, it's missing way too much, and should have another 6-8 hits. Even from just his late 80's albums, where's "Finer Things", "Freedom Overspill", "Back In The High Life Again", "Holding On", "Roll With It", and the excellent "Don't You Know What The Night Can Do?". Still, this is pretty good, and will have to do until we get an "Essential Winwood" collection.

Album Description

Following up on his debut "3 Chords And The Truth", which the Atlanta Journal-Constitution called "the best record to come out of this city since Usher's", Atlanta artist Anthony David is set to release his second record which continues his journey to recapture the sound of soul music that harkens back to the genre's banner era of the '60s and into the dawn of the '70s. Enlisting a Who's Who of Atlanta musicians (such as Tori Alamaze, Laurnea, and Keisha Jackson), this record represents the musical flavor and diversity of the south. Also includes guest appearances by India.Arie and master guitarist Earl Klugh.

5 out of 5 stars Good Old Fashion R&B.......2007-06-09

I bought this CD a month ago and have been playing it to death ever since. I absolutely love this CD. Its a shame you don't hear music like this on the radio.

5 out of 5 stars The REAL.......2007-05-09

Anthony David is an amazing singer, his voice is a mixture of old school R & B, reminiscent of Marvin Gaye and the neo-soul sounds of today. He is the epitome of "SMOOTH"

5 out of 5 stars The Red Clay Chronicles.......2007-04-23

I am new to this artist. Excuse me for living in an abyss! I heard him for the first time at the Urban Music Festival in Austin TX, and MAN...I was blown away, along with my cousin who came to hang out with me for the fest. He, of all of the artists, impressed me the most. So much so that I bought both of his cds, and bought both for my sister. I also have turned 6 others onto him (and counting). I LOVE THIS MAN'S SOUND AND MUSIC. He is smooth, reminiscent of the older R&B artists. The rasp in his vocals and his poetry has him on repeat in my cd changer. It's like meth to a meth-addict. Get both cds. You won't be disappointed in the slightest. Mr. David, thanks for taking me way back and keep it coming!

5 out of 5 stars Love It..........2007-04-22

I love his new album! This album is different from the first, but it shows his growth as an artist. The album is well produced and the lyrics are as deep as 3 Chords. If you want same feel as the first album (meaning the guitar) you are not going to get it on this album. Anthony takes his music to a new level while still keeping to his soulful roots.

5 out of 5 stars Lovin' Acey Duecey.......2007-03-28

Okay, so I bought both of Mr. David's CDs a couple of weeks ago and I haven't stopped listening to them yet. In fact, I have told other friends to check him out as well. I am a true soul music lover and he just fits exactly into the kind of sound that sings to me. Keep up the grand work, Mr. David, and I hope that your following continues to grow.

4 out of 5 stars Distance Travelled.......2006-02-24

This compilation spans a large time period. Over 10 years I believe. Quite a range of personnel, talent and sounds. Generally I was quite pleased, however there are a few tracks included which won't make your favorites list.
Mostly the blues are very well done.
Many of your favs or soon to be.
Alot of talent and this will provide a super guide on which albums to follow up with as most or all are represented.
Worth the time and money.

3 out of 5 stars A Space In Time.......2005-11-09

These tunes really take me back to the late 60s and early 70s when nearly every aspiring rock band felt they had to learn to play the blues. A few of them, like Savoy Brown, actually became decent blues bands. But rather than thinking of Savoy Brown in the strict blues vein, I see them for where they took their own music. These guys played live with big energy and they had an infectuous boogie groove. In that respect, they did play an important role in rock during their peak. I think that one reason they didn't maintain their popularity is because they didn't change much over time and since the music world was morphing rapidly, they kinda got left behind. But that doesn't take away from the great music they made.

I went a little low on the rating for a couple of reasons. First, if there were half stars available, I wouldn't hesitate to bump this up to 3.5 stars, but can't manage to go to 4. The reason I'm hesitant to go up to 4 is that I feel these tunes hold up better in their original LP than in a compilation. So I'd put 4 stars on Street Corner Talking and Looking In without hesitation. Maybe it's because of all the times we sat around (or danced around) at parties when the whole LP was played. Secondly, I find some of these tunes a bit weak and I reserve 4 and 5 star ratings for albums that are more consistently strong.

3 out of 5 stars The Savoy Brown Collection sans Vicksburg Blues?.......2004-07-01

This collection is good! Before the group degenerated into Foghat, they pretty much answered the question: "Can white men sing(and play) the blues ?" I believe Chris Youlden's version of "Vicksburg Blues" is the best evidence of this . I consider it a gross oversight to have excluded this song from this collection. Also the live version of their boogie tribute in which the name of the city of Detroit is mentioned is also missing. Yes, I am aware it is hard to please everyone . Perhaps the record company should have polled the listeners and fans of one of the greatest blues groups to come out of the United Kingdom. Now with the current technology it is possible for myself and others to correct this by burning a cd or downloading an ipod. Only for personal use of course. I am happy that "Hellbound Train,Tell Mama,Louisana,Needle and Spoon,Stay While the Night is Young, and Train to Nowhere" are on the collection. I hope one of the instrumental song's whose title I can't recall is on this collection . What i remember about this song are the great guitar solo and a surprise violin string section which added quite a dramatic flair to this song. I strongly suggest that people purchase this collection to see what music was like B.C.C. (before corporate control) and for the pure enjoyment of listening to Savoy Brown.

5 out of 5 stars Start Your Collection With This Collection!!!.......2003-10-03

So, a sibling, lover, or real good friend has got you all hot and bothered about Savoy Brown, that they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, etc., and you want to run out and buy some of their unforgettable music! What a great idea! But, just one question: which album to get? Well, how about all of them! And since you don't have a couple hundred extra dollars just lying around to spend on music, get this fabulous compilation instead. Starting at the very beginning with the British-only (and hard to find) CD, Shake Down, and concluding with the Mutt-Lang produced hard rock epic Savage Return from 1978, there is plenty of music to suit your every mood and whim. Whoever put this collection together (wonder if Kim himself had a hand in it) knew what they were doing: Of the 29 tracks in the album, no fewer than a dozen are taken from SB's three greatest albums: Raw Sienna, Looking In, and Street Corner Talking. Also, only one cut apiece was drawn from such "lesser" works as Boogie Brothers, Jack the Toad, Wire Fire, Skin 'N Bone, and Savage Return, and this was probably a wise decision as well. Personally, it's regrettable that only two tracks should be drawn from such an excellent set as Getting to the Point; how about including "Walking By Myself", "Big City Lights", or "Taste and Try Before You Buy?" (Now that we're on the subject: What about a second collection chronicling the years 1981 to the present? True, SB's glory days were in the sixities and early seventies, but there is enough good material on their later releases to warrant a new compilation.) In any case, the listener will be blown away by the range and depth of this material, from traditional blues covers ("I Ain't Superstitious", "Louisiana Blues") to startling new originals ("Mr. Downchild", "Money Cant Save Your Soul"); from rabble-rousing party anthems ("Tell Mama", "I'm Tired") to lengthy but never tedious jams ("Leaving Again", "Hellbound Train"), this band could do it all. Thanks for such a long history of great music must go to the fantastic musicians that helped make it over the years: Lonesome Dave, Chris Youlden, Roger Earl, Tone Stephens, Dave Walker, Paul Raymond, Bob Hall, Andy Pyle, Dave Bidwell, Jackie Lynton, Stan Webb, and Miller Anderson are some of the many talented players that made it happen for SB album after album, concert after concert. Last but not least, the listener should thank Kim Simmonds, SB's founder, leader, and guiding force, for having the courage to reinvent himself and to insist on only the highest standards for himself and his music. Welcome to the World of Savoy Brown! This collection, large as it seems, holds only a small sample of the hours and hours of musical enjoyment you can experience with Kim and Co. on your stereo. GET IT NOW!!!

5 out of 5 stars Savoy Brown.......2003-06-12

Nothing will ever replaced seeing these guys live in some small club - but this is close. One of the all time great and unique blues groups and I can still see them nailing the drums to the stage before they went on. For those of us lucky enough to see these guys perform - a must album that will be played over and over and over...

5 out of 5 stars Great debut album from Mr. Ortiz.......2007-05-23

I first heard Joelle Ortiz around 2001 on 50 Cent's "F*** You (remix)" and on Kool G Rap's "Giancana Story" album, and I was pleased with what I heard. Over the past few years I heard him here and there on a few songs here and ther and I came across this album. I have about 25 rap albums gfrom 2005, and this is definitely on of the better one so far this year. With 15 songs you get to hear what he is mad eof, and as far as lyrics and flow go, he's right up on the top and he shows it off here. Of the 15 songs, 2 are classicss, 4 are ok, the other 9 are tight songs. Guests are on 6 songs, so you definitely get to hear what he is made of. Production is nice as well and handled by a lot of cats, some known some not. Frank Dukes does 3 songs, MoSS, J Paz, DJ Emz, Ax the Bull, Hecks, Fraze, Alchemist, Prince & Machiavelli, Mighty VIC, P-Money, Street Radio and Show all do 1 track. A great album for fans of NY rap and a breath of fresh air in the rap game and as of July, 2007, one of the top albums of the year so far.

#1 - 10 (CLASSIC -- raps for over 5 mins. straight -- good beat)
#2 - 8.5 (f/ Cashmere, Maino, Big Daddy Kane -- an ode to Brooklyn)
#3 - 10 (CLASSIC over a GREAT beat)
#4 - 9 (f/ Big Noyd -- nice beat)
#5 - 9 (another one going for over 5 min. straight)
#6 - 8.5
#7 - 7.5 (f/ Immortal Technique)
#8 - 8 (f/ Ras Kass, Stimuli, Grafh, Gab Gotcha)
#9 - 7
#10 - 8
#11 - 7 (an ode to Latino's)
#12 - 9 (f/ Akon -- deeper song)
#13 - 8.5 (f/ Styles -- also on Styles' "Ghost Sessions" album))
#14 - 8.5 (another ode to Brooklyn)
#15 - 8.5 (deeper song and again he raps for over 5 min' straight)

5 out of 5 stars heat rises, expect to see him on the top.......2007-05-11

Joell Ortiz really shows you what he is made of on this CD. Through out this whole album you can hear his true passion, and love for hip hop. Ortiz soaked up all of the lyrics from the legends back in the day such as Kool G Rap, Krs-0ne, Big Daddy Kane, and Rakim he has that same quality rhyme texture. He is not afraid to spit bars for a good 4 minutes on a song with no hook. Joell is going to be around for a long time, and i can tell he will be dropping much more classic material for the future. As for "The Brick" i believe that it is a teaser but it is a classic teaser. the songs that really stand out are; all of the 125 tracks especially the (The Bio) and (Connection), A Night In My P's, Caught Up, Brooklyn B*******, and Time Is Money. I think it is unfair that he has been getting compared to Big Pun, which is only natural because he is big and Purto Rican but he will over come that just by continuing to be him self.

3 out of 5 stars Joel Ortiz - The Brick: Bodega Chronicles .......2007-04-30

Joel Ortiz debut album is "The Brick: Bodega Chronicles" (2007). The Brooklyn MC recently was handpicked by Dr. Dre and signed with Aftermath records. This release has been labelled as a mixtape/street album (Koch) which precedes the Aftermath Studio album currently scheduled for late 2007. While Ortiz has been in the Rap Game for awile now, I have never come across his music. Getting compared to deceased Latin rapper Big Pun can have its pro's and cons. I enjoy Latin Hip Hop, and find myself listening to up and coming artists like Omar Cruz (A.K.A. Blunts LLA) and Aztek Escobar, as well as music from artists like Cuban Link and Immortal Technique. Ortiz provides a fifteen track release which features guest appearances from: Cashmere, Maino, Big Daddy Kane, Solomon, Big Noyd, Immortal Technique, Ras Kass, Stimuli, Grafh, Gab Gotcha, Lord Black, Alex "BQE" Santiago, La Bruja, Akon, Styles P. Joel Ortiz makes his intro on "125 Pt. 1" (The Bio) recalling some of his accomplishments and talking about his life and talking about his ambitions to make it in the Rap game. Joel Ortiz teams up with Cashmere, Maino, Big Daddy Kane, and Solomon to rep their hood with pride on the "Brooklyn Remix". On the street life "Caught Up" Ortiz kicks some reality rhymes about his hustle to get paid, by any means necessary. Ortiz and Mobb Deep affiliate Big Noyd rhyme about grimy life in the hood on "Night In My P's". Rhyming with a fast flow Ortiz keeps thing's going on "125 Pt. 2 (Fresh Air)", then drops a quality cut with "Hip Hop" a track paying tribute to the music. Ortiz and Immortal Technique drop a short social, political track about life in the ghetto on "Modern Day Slavery". Rhyming over a familiar beat Ortiz collabs with Rass Kas, Stimuli, Grafh, and Gab Gotcha on "125 Pt. 3 (Connections)", and follows it up with anothe rep your hood cut in "BQC" which features Lord Black and Alex "BQE" Santiago". Ortiz drops some rhymes about being proud of being "Latino" backed by some singing from La Bruja. Akon is really popular these days so a lot of people want to have him on their releases, "Keep On Callin'" is a remake of an Akon track which has already been released - a cut which fails to make much of an impression. The remake of Styles P "Time Is Money" definitely works though, Styles kills it and Joel Ortiz drops some on point verses to. Joel Ortiz keeps the love for his hood going on "Brooklyn B*******" then closes the album off strong with the introspective "125 (Finale)". Fan's of reality Rap, Latin Hip Hop and people from the NYC may enjoy "The Brick: Bodega Chronicles". 3.5.

5 out of 5 stars Real Hip Hop.......2007-04-26

Joell Ortiz has made a Hip Hop classic and will go down as one of the greatest in the game. The Brick is hip hop in it's puerest form, honest, lyrical and straight gutter. Few rappers have lyrical ability these days but Joell Ortiz brings it raw on his first album. Every track on this album is fire. This cat is nice and not for a latin emcee but for an emcee period, end of story. Being Puerto Rican he gets compared to another hip hop great and legend Big Pun but Joell Ortiz is his own man and brings his own style to the game. Thank God for Joell Ortiz, Jada, Nas, Jay-Z, Saigon, Styles and the rest of the true hip hop heads keeping hip hop alive.
