Singer Anastacia is definitely prone to no-frills caveats: "I'm a freak of nature," she declares on her sophomore album's opening title track, "You better beware of danger." And so begins the journey into this Taylor Dayne doppelgänger's musical world, a place populated with overblown rock-funk-R&B tracks signed, sealed, and delivered with the sole intent of freakifying the Chicago-based songstress stateside (she's sold over 7 million albums worldwide). Replete with melismatic wails (on power ballads like "I Dreamed You" and "You'll Never Be Alone"), hard-edged, don't-mess-with-me manifestos ("Paid My Dues," "Why'd You Lie to Me"), and a requisite superstar cameo (Faith Evans sits in on "I Thought I Told You That"), Anastacia works the funky-white-girl thing with all she's got. And though most of her material is fairly schlocky, this onetime contestant from MTV's The Cut has a thick creamy purr of voice that carries the run-of-the-mill material and prevents the entire affair from invoking a caveat emptor. --Sylvia W. 02. Paid My Dues-10/10, A song they shows that Anastacia just doesn't care. You can't stop Anastacia. A nice beat. The first single off of the album. Talks about how shes paid her dues and can't be held down. Great choice for a single. But i wouldn't have released it first.
03. Overdue Goodbye-9/10, A slower track. She is saying good bye to someone. She tells him if love was a season he would be her winter. So shes telling him "Goodbye" Its her overdue goodbye.
04. You'll Never Be Alone-10/10, One of my personal favorites on the album. She sings to someone that with her they'll never be alone. She sings how they'll make it through the fire and how she'll forever be by his side. The video to this track was amazing as well. She really shows off her powerful pipes on this track. With those big notes towards the end. This was the 4th and final single. My favorite or maybe second favorite to #6.
05. One Day In Your Life-10/10, A great upbeat dance track. She basicly is singing one day in your life you'll be sorry you left me. She says she won't break down and cry. Cause time has made her stronger and one day he'll want her again. I would have chosen this as my first single if i was her. Was her second single. But was teh only single she released here in the US. One of my favorites.
06. How Come The World Won't Stop-10/10, A song about someone she lost. And hoe come the world won't stop not that your gone. i know the feeling i've lost people in my life too. This song really touches me. I know the feeling first hand. This is the kind of song that makes me wanna cry but cheers me up all in one. The whole message itself makes this possibly my favorite song on the album.
07. I Thought I Told You That f/Faith Evans-10/10, Great Great song. Witha superstar cameo from Faith Evans. Should have had a video or at least been a single. Its about how Faith told Anastacia that this guy would break her heart but she went with him anyways. So she sings "I thought i told you that he'd break your heart, he was no good for you from the start"
08. Why'd You Lie To Me-10/10, One of the best songs on teh album. Released as teh 3rd single with a creative video. The song is talking to a guy that lied to her. Then seh sings an incredibly catchy chorus to him. For soem reason this was also on the first album "Not that Kind" But its more fitting on this album. One of my favorites.
09. Don'tcha Wanna-9/10, She sings Don't Cha Wanna fall in love to a guy. This song along with "Why'd You Lie To Me" was on the first album. I'm not sure which album this song fits with more. But its still great.
10. Secret-9.8/10, Anastacia shows a different side of her voice. This is one of teh ballads of the album. A great song. One fo the better tracks on the album. Not much else to say about it.
11. Don't Stop (Doin' It)-7/10, A sort of disco-ish dance song. Not my favorite.
12. I Dreamed You-10/10, A sweet and tender ballad. Its basicly just about how she loves someone. And how she dreams of them. Also shows a higher toned Anastacia. Her Chest Voice is absent through most of this song. She keeps in a high range throughout most of the song. Til the end of course when she shows off her voice.
13. Overdue Goodbye (Reprise)-8/10, Basicly just another minute and 30 seconds of overdue goodbye.
Overall Album Grade
9.8/10
Her second best album to date. With Anastacia being the best.

Freak of Nature "outtakes" released independently.......2004-01-06
Some of the songs on this CD are the rough demo versions recorded with original guitarist Oliver Steffensen, who would later co-write some songs with Mike on his first and third solo albums. Three of these songs would also make it to the debut FON album because they were too strong leave out Mike himself would admit years later. "Possessed" is perhaps one of the heaviest songs Mike ever wrote, especially lyrically. "Are You Ready" features different vocals from Mike compared to the bonus track on the s/t with guitarists Kenny Korade and Dennis Chick (ex-House of Lords). It is cool to have different versions of these tracks as they are among the most metal and powerful songs in Mike Tramp's career.
"Blame it on the Fool" kicks off the CD, which was one of the songs that didn't make it on the first CD. Lyrically it's quite self-explanatory but musically it might have needed some more work. "Where You Belong" and "Wartime" are both heavy songs where Mike Tramp explores with new lyrical ideas. Mike definitely wrote his best and most cerebral lyrics in his short-lived band FON. The second album Gathering of Freaks, in my opinion, features his best vocal performance plus most thought provoking lyric work to date, and is still by far my favourite Mike Tramp related album along with White Lion's Pride. "Dead and Gone" is one of the better songs on the album and I think it's a shame it didn't make it on the studio albums. It would have been a great fit. The unplugged versions of "What Am I" and especially "Turn the Other Way", while good in their own right, make you want to hear the studio versions on the debut CD. I think "Turn the Other Way" is an excellent song and a great album opener. Very fast and energetic compared to everything else Tramp has written before and after FON.
The two semi-ballads "I Regret" and "Can't Find My Way" are both killer works. I can't believe they were left out and I am thankful to Mike for making the effort to get them released in one form or another. Because they're too good to be left gathering dust in some vault. Tramp wrote "I Regret" about his (then) new-born son and explains he understood his dad's feelings with a son of his own. Also it's a pity FON never did this song live. Tramp would finally cover it years later as a solo artist. "Can't Find My Way" is, as Tramp puts it, "the song he enjoyed singing the most" but again it's a shame it didn't make it on the albums. This song is a true METAL song from structure to attitude to the lyrics to the music to the vocals. It is also one of the best, most emotional, and most devastasting songs of Mike ever. Lyrically it destroys me. The part where he goes "I've tried before to unlock the door..." gives me chills every time! The song slowly builds up and gains tempo and heaviness as it reaches a height where you might want to freeze forever. It's a song Mike wrote about his brother. The guitar work towards the end to this day boggles my mind. Why didn't Korade and Chick play stuff like this on the studio albums? Easily my favourite song on this CD.
Songs like "If" and "Disturbing the Peace" keep you going, especially the latter with its never-ending riffing and clocking it at over 12 minutes! It was just Oliver and his drum machine but you can feel that him and Mike were really into whatever they were doing. It's a shame this band didn't last cause there was something magical about them and they had all the potential there was to have. The reason I am rating it 4 stars is the lack of unity and somewhat raw production even though it serves the purpose of the CD quite well at times. I highly recommend you to check out the two FON albums. They are both tragically underrated and might surprise you a lot if you've never heard Mike's "darker" and "metal" sides before.

Album Description
After nearly a century, blues music, as an art form, continues to thrive and evolve. The musicians who live and play the blues have changed and have grown along with the music. W.C. Spencer is one of these people. The bluescat has amazed audiences in the U.S. and abroad with his own brand of rhythm & blues and this second album for Catscan picks up where the first album Bluescat leaves off. Spencer has accomplished what has been called impossible for singing and playing all of these instruments at one time. Take equal parts of bassist, guitarist, harmonicist, drummer, vocalist, inventor, writer and arranger; add a lot of hard work and you get...Over Time. A collection of blues from old to new, this album traces the journey from acoustic to electric blues and beyond with style and poise. From W.C. Handy's Atlanta Blues (1915) to Arthur Pettis' Goodboy Blues (1930) to Bell & Jones's Born Under A Bad Sign (1967) to W.C.'s own Some of the Things I've Been Meaning To Do, Talk To Me, The Country Minstrel and I'm Your Monkey (1998); Spencer charts old and new territory alike with his live ensemble renditions of uptown, country, jazzy and original blues. In a genre inhabited by so many fine players, check out a real originator and intrepreter.Like the man said, go ahead and drown yourself - in the blues.

W.C. Spencer Does It Again!!!.......2002-12-22
On this recording He again treats us to a nice selection of Blues standards as well as a few gems that he wrote himself. With very few exceptions, Spencers plays the drums, bass, guitar, harmonica and sings, (all at once), and does it with the authority of a fully-manned Blues band. The results are genuinely fun to listen to and I'm hoping that we will hear more from this gifted artist in the future.
i definitely recommend you give this recording a listen.

One of the Best Albums in Mike Tramp's Career.......2005-03-14
This album marks the beginning of Tramp's interest in a heavier and darker musical scope, employing two guitarists and a fantastically solid rhythm section. Mike Tramp probably never sang as great as he did in Freak of Nature, before and after this band. His vocals were at his best, as were his songwriting skills. His lyrics were thought-provoking, angry and extremely emotional. The band behind him are equally intense, and each member takes on an integral role in the compositions as well. All songs on this disc are written by the entire band, and it certainly shows.
The album is quite multi-facetted, starting with the fast-paced "Turn the Other Way". Most White Lion fans, including myself, were quite shocked to hear this song, as we all sort of expected from Mike Tramp a similar band to White Lion, but he managed to surprise everyone. The following songs on the album are even heavier. "Possessed" is perhaps one of the greatest songs Mike Tramp has ever written; it begins with bleak acoustic guitars, quickly developing into a mind-blowing Heavy Metal anthem. Mike's lyrics are about child abuse, drugs, and social injustice. Actually, there are songs here that focus more on Tramp's lyrics, rather than just the music. "What Am I", "World Doesn't Mind" and "People" may not sound as strong as the other numbers here, but their lyrics are among the most cerebral in Tramp's career.
Two of my favourite tunes here are "92" and "If I Leave". They both start out mid-tempo, but they are so strong and diverse musically that they stand head and shoulders above the other tracks. "92" is about Tramp's former FON-partner, Oliver Steffensen. He obviously wrote the song when Steffensen changed his mind about being part of the band. However, the song also deals with Tramp's grandmother's death, making it even more personal to him. "If I Leave", on the other hand, is full of crunchy rhythm work and solid guitar riffs. Jerry Best and Johnny Haro prove to be a killer rhythm duo. Haro's drum fill in the middle of the section always gives me goosebumps, whilst Jerry Best was always a key member in the sound of Freak of Nature. Mike Tramp's vocals in the second half of this song are perhaps some of the greatest, most immortal moments in the history of rock music. Sounds too exaggerated? Well, I grew up with this disc. I was 15 when I bought it, and literally wore this disc out. Both Freak of Nature albums are among my all-time favourites anyway.
The album is dedicated to two of Tramp's heroes, Phil Lynott and Freddie Mercury. I'm sure they would both be proud if they heard this disc. I know this album is a little difficult to track down, and expensive too, but it's worth seeking out for sure. The follow-up to this, Gathering of Freaks, is equally stunning, if not better. They're both essential to any metal fan.
