I was very impressed by this album, I love r&b so this album was on point for me. Don't get me wrong I loved Janet Jackson from the beginning but most of her music has been pop and for mainstream america. From the intro till the end Janet still proves she can hold her own. I'm proud of her and the success she has had over the years. Do your thang girl!!!!

my favorite song and video of janet jackson's is dance all nite don't stop it has an extremely sexy and a carribean beat that has janet make a lovely tiger or lion sound throughout the video she looks great in the music video i know she is a highly accomplished dance but i focused on her amazing abs throughout the video because she wore a very very small shirt which displayed her stomach i think i could see her thong that is how tight her shirt was that is handles down one of the high points of the video aside from the beautiful music beat and her dancing this is one of her top music videos of all time and one of the most attractive that I have seen in years this video made me realize that janet was one of the most attractive woman on the planet up there with halle berry alicia keys and aaliyah my favorite portion of the video when she repeatedly moves her body in a lovely matter, up and down, against the shinny mirror while she showcase her flawless six pack stomach in the video janet has one of the best six packs in the business i also liked it when she had her hat on and off she had her hat on when she was dancing and off when she was moving like a snake up and down the shinny mirror in my opinion this song is a little underrated because it was not played on the radio a whole lot against because people had a difficult time getting over her incident involving justin timberlake at the 2004 nfl superbowl but this video makes me forget about what had happen in february 2004 as she released this video a couple of months after the superbowl the final thing that i like about this video is how her straight hair kept almost fully covering her goodlooking face there was numerous occassions when her hair was in her mouth and when her hair covered her eyes it was just all the place and i loved it i donot know if it was purposedly or not but i know that it work and added more appeal to the video i do not think janet would ever be able to top this video ever again this video is up there with aaliyah's classic rock the boat jlo's remix get right and the [...] cat dolls song i don't need a man and stick with you her other video you know that i want you in early 2004 should not also be forgotten which i think is a tad better than this because the song has a better beat and sends a better message but i like this song dance all nite don't stop better than that because it help me look at ladies in a whole new different way

From the beginning of the cd to the end, great music. This is probably my favorite era ever of Janet. I just love this cd and the japanese version has two of her best songs... "I'm here" and "Put your hands on". This woman is just getting started and if you don't have this... you're missing out. This is primarily an album of R&B lite and "Slow Jam" music. While there are a couple semi decent songs, this is not an album to grove or dance to. To be frank, I found it boring and a waste of Janet's time, an anyone (else's time) looking foreward an "Old School" jam. My adice is to listen to "Control", "Rythym Nation","Janet", "The Velvet Rope" or "All For You" until Janet's next album after "YO 20" comes out. Lots of "old School" Janet fans, such as myself, have also skipped "YO 20."

some of the songs on here are really good and fit right in with the r&b and hip hop of 2004, but thanks to superbowl janet was boycotted everywhere. If she hadn't performed with that cracker justin timberlake she would have been all over the place like she deserved to be, but her bad choices led to her downfall and she still hasn't recovered from it, AT ALL.

Absolutely the Very Best of Damita Jo.......2003-06-22

This CD is very good in quality. Listening to this CD in comparision to a tape cassette given to me by Damita....it rates quite well. It leaves you with the spirit of Damita Jo DeBlanc, not DuBlanc. I loved it and cried feeling I was hearing her in this life again. She would be proud. I marveled at how clear her voice, rhythm and sound came across. I have the old albums, but the CD was better.

A beautiful voice, an unusual sensitive interpretation, and the "If you go away" is a masterpeace; It sounds much better than being sang by its "father": Jack Brel (French Composer.) Whoever likes soft, pleasent, sensitive music, should not miss this CD.

Damita Jo is not my favorite Janet CD, in fact I think it's one of her weakest releases to date.. and that's why I don't understand why two of the best songs are only found on this very expensive Japanese version.
She should have dropped some of the boring ballads such as the embarrising and unsexy "Warmth" and "Moist" and put these pretty little songs on the CD instead.
I hope her next project sounds more original and fresh because I'm not buying ONE more Janet CD about sex. Enough is enough!

Bonus tracks help a lot !!!!.......2004-10-08

I have the 2 Damita Jo versions and I must say that the 2 bonus tracks raise the quality of her last work. Well, it is not a bad album, but it is kind of "dull" and repetitive. Technically the album is really well done, but it doesn't have the same energy or power than the others (janet, Velvet Rope). She manages to use perfectly different styles: Hip hop, Rock, R&B, Dance... but it still has less energy, less powerful lyrics... AND I think we all already know that she LOVES sex...
"I'm here" (very R&B) and "Put your hands on" (dancing...) are really good and should have been on the original album. My favorite songs are "Sexhibition" (unfortunately too short) "R&B Junkie", "All nite", "Put your hands on": the catchy songs & "Spending time with you" and "I'm here".
I regret that the "Country interlude" is not a song :(

I am a huge fan of Miss Janet, but this album is not her best.

J'avais déjà acheté trois copies de Damita Jo pour en donner un à mes amis tellement que j'ai adoré ce cd. L'album Damita Jo Import vaut vraiment la peine d'être acheté surtout pour les deux bonus track I'M HERE et PUT YOUR HANDS ON,ces deux chansons sont excellente. Il y en a une très R&B et l'autre assez dance.Dans la pochette vous retrouverez même les paroles en japonnais et en anglais également.Bref, mes morceaux préférés sur ce disque sont sans doute DON'T STOP (ALL NITE),SLO LOVE,R&B JUNKIE une très dance et groove ensuite SEXHIBITION,JUST A LITTLE WHILE,I WANT YOU et bien sûr les deux bonus track. Pour moi dans mon coeur c'est un excellent album import qui en vaut le coût.

musically she did much better than all for you, but her voice and the lyrical content is very weak and very vulgar. The bonus tracks should have been featured on the worldwide release of the albu, they're some of the better songs on the album musically, I just wish she had made a better effort to use her voice on them instead of lazy, uninspired singing.

I'm still surprised that this one only sold 1 million copies in the USA. There are some standout tracks - Island Life, Spending Time With You, All Nite (Don't Stop) just to name a few.

Review for "Damita Jo" by Janet Jackson.......2004-08-29

This album doesn't even seem like it is sung by the same woman who had us dancing with "Rhythm Nation", but she tries to fit in and make all her songs about sex. Some people complain that the arrangements tend to "drown out" her voice, but that has been the case since Janet first started singing. There are very few highlights on this album: the title track is absolutely awesome, as well as the single "I Want You" and "Just A Little While". Although "All Nite (Don't Stop)" is a big hit and a great dance track, its still a typical sex song like most of the tracks. "Sexhibition" (known as "Exhibition" on the clean version) and "Strawberry Bounce" tell us too much information, and thank God that "Moist" and "Warmth" were omitted from this "clean" version. All of this being said, "Thinkin' About My Ex" and "Spending Time With You" are two of the major highlights of the album. Some of the songs are really good, but there is just as many good ones as there is bad. And the over five spoken interludes slow down the pace of the CD and to be honest, they're just boring. Listen to the samples before you buy this CD...

The side that she doesn't hide , but may never show..........2004-07-10

this record is far too dirty to be censored. trust me , you're making a mistake if you buy the clean version of this album. they cut words out like "ass" , "fourplay" , and "doin'" (as in "having sex") . they also cut out the part in "like you don't love me" when she said "xxx porn" (in the second verse). i swear , they wouldn't have censored this record the way they did , had she not gone on television a month earlier (on the superbowl halftime show) and exposed her right breast. but she didn't even show anything , her nipple was covered!!! i also am dissapointed because the songs "warmth" (about giving a ... well , i'll let you judge for youself!) and "moist" are not included on this CD. trust me , buy the filthy version of this album , it's a lot better.

"DAMITA JO" has a few highs and lows. The best songs are "Damita Jo", "Exhibition", and "I Want You". There are a few other notable songs, but I think these three stand out. I personally don't care for the interludes, I think some are really silly and make the album seem somewhat boring. Some of the songs for me were just a bit on the silly side such as "R&B Junkie". It is by no means a terrible album, nor by any a great one, so I give it 3 stars for being average.

Lost Female Teen Idols.......2007-06-02

I love this type of music & I bought the CD for it's more obscure songs. Stand out tunes are "I'm Available" by Margie Rayburn, Damita Jo's "I'll Save The Last Dance For You", which is an answer song to The Drifter's "Save The Last Dance For Me", "Angel Baby" by Rosie & The Originals, "Triangle" by Janie Grant, the super-silly "That Greasy Kid Stuff" (Janie Grant), "Please Don't Talk To The Lifeguard" (Diane Ray), "Dumb Head" (Ginny Arnell), & "My Boyfriend Got A Beatle Haircut" (Donna Lynn). I love Diane Renay's "Navy Blue" & her soundalike followup single "Kiss Me Sailor", which is actually better than "Navy Blue", & Linda Scott's "I've Told Every Little Star" (stars were her gimmick in the 60's, recording several songs about stars). I really hate the horrid Hayley Mills songs "Let's Get Together" & "Johnny Jingo", & the awful "Remember Me" by Rita Pavone. I cringe when these three songs come on!

Great Disc, Bad Liner Notes.......2005-07-02

So who in the heck is this Bob Hyde, and who ever told him he could write liner notes? These have to be the worst liner notes I have ever read, in a CD or Album. He basically trashed the CD's contents and the rest of the songs in the girl group era. It all seems so pointless to write about how awful and out of tune, square and socially insignificant the music on the CD was, If the reader has already bought the CD obviously the reader and the consumer has bought the CD because they like Girl Group Music. So why waste valuable liner note space with negative droneing? We could have had some pictures and valuable info instead. That said, it is a great CD for any lover of the GG sound. I totally recommend it, I myself bought it for the wonderful clear STEREO version of Party Girl. Get it Today!

I disagree with what was said about being able to find a lot of these tracks elsewhere! Maybe the "standard" pop stuff like that of more famous names here (Connie Stevens, Linda Scott, Peggy March, Diane Renay, etc.). But some of these recordings are extremely rare and are from singers not really heard from since, which makes this a must have for collectors! I like too, that the span of time here was from late 50's to early 60's (although the title track actually belonging in the heart of the 60's girl singer genre).

OK, so if you compare some better versions of some tunes - Diane Ray's "Please Don't Talk to the Lifeguard" being the "harsh" version compared to Andrea Carroll's softer one; Helen Shapiro doing a much more elegant version of "Remember Me?" than Rita Pavone - who sort of sounds like a drag queen with an accent (though I still love the novelty value of Pavone's!); and "Dumb Head" covered in a space-age sound warp by Joe Meek's protégées "The Sharades". They still fit in well with silly stuff on this by Hayley Mills, Ginny Arnell and Donna Lynn.

Also the first five tracks really stand out as the last of the fifties "doo-wop/shoo-wop" jargon being figured out before that all changed entirely. Especially the "doo-ie doo-ee doo-ee doos" of "I'm available"; the "bomp, bomp-ba-bomps" of "Billy" and the outright "doo-wop, doo-wop doo-wop" of "After School". This is nothing less than a very fun collection overall. The details of where these tracks charted too is impressive and makes up for the somewhat lackluster graphics of the CD, IMO.

Unique Mix of Pop and Kitsch.......2003-02-27

I bought this CD for Rita Pavone's "Remember Me," the Italian pop star's 1964 appearance on the American charts. My intention was to make a mix tape of tracks from that era that went above and beyond the stuff that gets played over and over on the oldies stations.

Listening to the rest of the disc, it occurred to me that this was the best way to listen to the rest of the disc, as well. Mix it with the tried and true and get a feeling for what Top 40 Radio was really like back in rock's first decade.

I'd skip "Dumb Head," which is kind of a [poor copy] of the Shirelles' "Foolish Little Girl," the way that movie with the Village People and Bruce Jenner dancing was kind of a [poor copy] of "Saturday Night Fever."

Hey, sound-alike female pop singers and a Disney sweetheart turned singing sensation -- sounds like now!
