Customer Reviews:
Love it, but..........2007-04-16
DONT BUY it from AMAZON! I got burned, I bought what was supposed to be the new delux edition and what I received was the original CD release. I'd rather buy items like this from official stores instead of Amazon after that hell of an experience. Over-all, its a great album

Back From the Dead.......2006-08-17
This album re-introduced a former R&B singer by the name of Tina Turner to the world at-large. She hasn't stopped turning the world on its ear since. It's interesting to hear how this album grew practically on its own, rather haphazardly, with none of the careful nurturing and selective songwriting most artists put into their albums. The album's biggest hit, "What's Love Got To Do With It", almost didn't get made. Tina hated it. One of her favorites, "I Might Have Been Queen", wasn't released as a single. This album shows tremendous range and depth of talent. From her roots in R&B, to the lighter realm of Pop, to the harder edge of Rock, Tina showed she could handle it all. She became the first woman to be nominated for Grammies in the fields of R&B, Pop, and Rock all in the same year. The album became a phenomenon, going multi-platinum in the U.S. alone, and a few times that worldwide. There really isn't a weak song here, except possibly the cover of "Help", which is much better live. The sterility of the studio really didn't help the song. The rest of the album, though, is amazing. Her rendition of "Private Dancer", the title track, is wonderful. The slow, measured reading of the lyrics, and the weariness in her voice blends to completely convince the idea of her being a tired private-dancer for hire, her dreams of happiness gone. It seems that nowadays, pop princess-tarts are a dime a dozen, talented, yes, but over-produced, and lacking true direction and focus, hence the immense early attention and enormous album sales, then burn-out sets in, and they fade. It's an inspiring thing, then, to see a woman, in her forties at the time, come back and show what a lifetime of experience and a world of talent can do. Get this album and enjoy it, because even though radio played some of it to death, it still stands the test of time amazingly well.
Timeless.......2006-03-23
I purchased this item because it was said to be one of her best. The people sure knew what they were talking about! This album provides smooth Tina pefection all the way. From the upbeat great grooves of "I Might Have Been Queen" and "Steel Claw" to the sexy title track "Private Dancer" to the classics "Whats Love Got to Do with It?" and "Better Be Good to Me" this album is rocking! It's nice to have the extra tracks and extended version (even though they really aren't THAT much longer) they're a nice touch. All in all, Tina fans will love it, people looking for some 'good time' music will appreciate it, and anyone looking for some 80's fun will have stuck gold. This is a timeless great album.
