It's Me Again is a bad name for a great record, the reason being that the sound that bumps infectiously through around half of these 16 tracks is distinctively Missy Elliott's (she executive produced). "Turn Da Lights Off," the opening song after a space-wasting, self-congratulatory intro, crackles for a moment with what sounds like an old Supremes sample, then off we go—each subsequent joint doles out some unexpected aural treat, be it the whomp-bomp of "Iceberg," the dreamy '70s coast-along of "Cab Ride," or the clever boogie-woogie of "Sports, Sex & Food" (listen up, girls). The small screen in simpler days is a major theme, with Tweet revisiting "Kojak" and "Taxi" for samples; when she's not channel-surfing for sounds, the sturdy-voiced chanteuse sticks around the era to rework "We Don't Need No Water." This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

The greatest songs ever?.......2007-07-26

I heard 'clear or cloudy', from this recording, on the radio recently and had to purchase it. It is strange but it is the sort of song that makes life prior to listening to it different from life after. I find it sad that so many people haven't heard it. There are also many other wonderful works in this collection. Given you get twelve well recorded CDs with top quality performances, this has to be one of the bargains of the age.

A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10

Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.

The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).

This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.

I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.

a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15

I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.

Very pleased.......2007-06-10

I wasn't sure what to expect when I bought this CD. True, I could have listened on line before buying but that would have taken the fun out of the purchase. Besides, I really didn't care for the CD the first couple of times I listened but now I really love it. It's not something to listen to all the time but given the right circumstances e.g. a small gathering of friends, it's perfect. If I'd listened to online, I wouldn't have purchased it.

Sumptuous and mellow.......2002-11-28

The six men of the King's Singers present sweet and light-hearted madrigals of such English composers as Morley, Weelkes, Dowland, Wilbye and Byrd. The thirty five selections include "Now is the Month of Maying", "Though Philomela Lost Her Love", "Sing We and Chant It," the celebration of tobacco entitled "Come, Sirrah Jack, Ho!" and a host of other fa-la-la-la-la venues interspersed with wistful laments. I love the rich, sonorous sound of a male vocal ensemble, with countertenors, tenor, baritones and bass, and these six singers do a great job. Occasional instrumental accompaniments by lute and tabor are included, but this group doesn't really need it--I could listen to them for hours all by themselves. Also quite enjoyable, as well as educational, is their earlier release, "The King's Singers' Madrigal History Tour: Italy, England, France, Spain and Germany". For a more risque' take on the vocal music of Renaissance England, you might get a kick out of "The Art of the Bawdy Song" by the Baltimore Consort with the Merry Companions.

One of the Best Collections of English Madrigals.......2002-03-27

Any fan of the King's Singers will regret not having this album in their collection.

This album offers a veritable feast of the choicest English madrigals found on any comparable album. From the obligatory "Now is the Month of Maying" and "Fair Phyllis" to the more obscure "Tan ta ra, cries Mars," there is certainly enough on this album to bring a smile to lovers of Renaissance music - and a spark of recognition to anyone who sang traditional madrigals in high school or university. For serious students of early music, this album comes very highly recommended.

Among the more sonorous offerings on this album, Jones' "Farewell, Dear Love" and Dowland's "Come Again," cannot be ignored. Nor can Bennet's immortal "Weep O mine eyes" be matched more musically than here by the King's Singers.

This album has been played again and again for almost 6 years as both serious listening and background working music. And it has yet to lose its delight.

A Delightful Collection of English Madrigal.......2000-08-16

With 35 tracts to enjoy you're sure to find a couple of favorites. I gave this CD 4 of 5 stars compared to 5 stars for the King's Singers World Madrigal Tour CD. If you prefer all your songs in English, this will be your 5 star CD. Tract 32 "Come again" is my favorite due to the surperb tenor lead and melodic development. Compared to many polyphonic early music styles (1300s-1485), this era (1500-1610) provides many memorable melodies.

This is an excellent sampling of English madrigals. This presentation, given by an older roster of the Singers, is a nice introduction to the world of the madrigal, and English madrigals in particular.

If you have all the British version Parlophone cd's...as MOST Beatle fans do....then you have all these songs in the format they are here.

Now....for the COMPLETISTS in the crowd.....If you are seeking the american versions that were mixed for Capitol.....You can find them all on the 3 Anthology sets....and if you purchased the first 2 CAPITOL ALBUM boxes...you have american versions there...They are planning to release a Vol 3 this year.

It really burns me to see these bootleggers passing off this stuff to thirsty collectors....

Some Wax?.......2007-03-30

As an avid Amazon shopper, I am surprised my previous comments regarding this release were deleted. Since when is "Some Wax" a legitimate arm of EMI? I wish, truly, that EMI would release "Hey Jude" on CD, but that has yet to happen. "Hey Jude" is currently out of print as a vinyl release, and unfortunately, this release is not official. Believe me, I've got the original vinyl of "The Beatles Again" on Apple and the reprint on Capitol (purple label), and I've got my share of pops and clicks on each of them. I'd love this release to be put out on CD from EMI!

the beatles are a great band, and this is a great album. but these songs can be found by much cheaper means. tracks 1 and 2 are on the A Hard Days Night soundtrack, and the last eight tracks are on the Past Masters releases. so unless youre a huge beatles collecter, this album isnt for you.

The Ballad of John, Paul, George & Ringo.......2007-01-04

As cobbled-together albums go, THE BEATLES AGAIN (also known as "Hey Jude") is about as good as it gets. The 10 songs presented on it are from singles and B-sides, and cover the majority of the band's stellar career. Not one of these could be considered throwaway or filler.

John Lennon's lead vocals on all four of his songs are some of his most powerful ever. The track of "Revolution" presented is the one Lennon tried (but failed) to place on the White Album. Commonly labelled "the fast-version," the spine-tingling guitar work on it is unforgettable. All of Paul McCartney's tunes on this record were some of the biggest hits the Beatles ever had. George Harrison's lone contribution, "Old Brown Shoe," is high-energy and has an infectious hook.

If you don't already own this one, here is a "fab" opportunity to enjoy... THE BEATLES AGAIN!

Hooray for Hollywood.......2007-07-22

I bought this CD to go with an Academy Awards/Hollywood Walk-of-Fame theme party at work. It was the perfect accompaniment and mood setter.

It was February and a group of us decorated the lounge with black, gold, and silver tableclothes and balloon bouquets, and scattered around clap boards and faux film strip on the tables, along with movie trivia cards and black and gold wrapped mints. I made a walk-of-fame star for every employee and taped them on the walls around the room. We also laid down a red carpet from the entrance of the room to about the center with the decorated tables flanking both sides. We sat up the snack table with a sign that said, "Studio Commissary" and went with theme snacks like "James Bonbons with Halle Berry sauce," and "The Queen's scones." Each week we took a quarter of the walk-of-fame stars and posted them on the bulletin board for the staff to write peer compliments under. At the end of the week these stars were taken down and the next set of stars was posted.

This CD really set the mood for employees as they entered the lounge for the first time on that first day after it was decorated, and during the party at the end of the month. The month ended with an Academy Award party with an Oscar going to each employee for outstanding effort in whatever category (best dressed, best supporting staff member, most animated story teller, most pleasant entercom voice, most punctual, best sense of humor, most artistic, etc.), and they were given their stars with the peer compliments attached to the back. Everyone commented on how special they felt and how neat the theme was. Good morale booster.

This CD would also be perfect for the ambiance at your own Academy Awards party at home. Print out those ballots, cast your votes, pop some popcorn and pass around the Juji fruits, and let's watch the Oscars!

Kunzel & The Cincinnati Pops do a great job everytime, and this is no exception. I'm telling you, if you ever thought that purely intrumental/orchestral was unattractive, this will change your mind. Never a disappointment!

If you love that music from all those movies you've seen, then this is the CD you want! It is fantastic!! I want more!! I hope Erich Kunzel will come out with some music from older movies and maybe some TV programs. Listening to his music is better than watching the movie.

This is the absolute best CD they ever put together! And that is saying a lot as we are very picky about what music we like. This is the kind of music that makes you 'feel' deeply. It encourages you to dream big and love living! Forget the grooves, drums and bangs and listen to something incredibly beatiful! If you are looking for just one solid collection of memorable movie themes, this is it. Other CDs mix marches and fanfares with quieter tracks, which makes for a jarring listening experience at times. This CD, however, has a consistent feel all the way through. Melodic, calming, and, best of all, interesting. These movie tracks weren't selected simply for their sound, but also because they are GOOD. You get the best of the best: James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams, Ennio Morricone, and Randy Edelman.

I used this CD to help me rehearse for the BIG production I was in, but it didn't match the libretto at all. I think there was one song on there that I could use.

If you're getting this CD to help prepare for your school or community group doing the musical, there are a lot of changes from the CD to the book. Aside from finding the book in a new key and some chunks added/deleted, Here We Go Again and When You're Big aren't included anymore.

Overall, the music's a little trite, but there are some nice moments -- mostly the stuff sung by the female leads.

My high school did "Big" my sophomore year, and oh my god, it was such a fun musical to do. I kind of forgot about it until my senior year, when I suddenly craved some of that music again. So I purchased this CD and I've been loving it since. They got rid of a couple of the songs and replaced them with others as the show progressed on Broadway, so I was suprised to hear new material (to me anyways), and for the most part, I actually enjoyed these original songs over their replacements that my production contained. This cast is phenomenal and the guy who plays Josh Baskin sounds so much like Tom Hanks at points, its crazy. It's a simple, yet a bit fantastic musical about growing up, and it's funny and romantic, and a lot of fun. I love all the songs, and it's a shame it didn't do too well on B-way. At least this recording will keep the music alive.

"This Isn't Me" is one of my favorite tracks, as it's a lot of fun and has a great beat, but suprisingly it was replaced with "Good Morning to Mom", which was only so-so. "I Want To Go Home" is a great ballad that Josh sings, and its simple, a bit funny, and the ending is the best, as its cute and sad. Another song they got rid of, "Here We Go Again", is a song Susan sings, and again, I like it alot. It has a quirky melody that I like. "Stars, Stars, Stars" is another great song, and is quite cute. One of the more popular songs. "Cross The Line" is the finale to Act I and is also very excellent and up beat, and makes you want to dance. "Stop, Time" is my favorite song on the album by far. Sung by Josh's mom, it is one of the more poignant moments of the show. Heartfelt, sad, and truly beautiful, it defiantely makes you appreciate your mom. Barbara Walsh sounds superb on this: she has a great voice. I love this one. "Dancing all the Time" is another good Susan song, and it leads into "I Want To Know" by Young Josh, which is another good ballad. "Coffee, Black" is another showstopper, fun ensemble song, and again, very comedic. "One Special Man" is Susan's ballad to Josh, and it is very beatiful. My only regret is that its only 2:21 so its a short one, and I just want her to start belting at the end, but no, its a quiet ending. Still, I love this one too. The finale is great too, and features an amazing duet between Josh and Susan. I love the harmonies they do.

All in all, this is a great album. Sample the songs and give it a try. This is a must have!!

a lost gem.......2004-10-14

i saw this musical at the local high school in 2001 and was plesently suprised i of course saw the movie and the only thing i knew about this musical was it didnt stay long on broadway, so when i saw it was i shocked this is a delight cross the line still resenates in my head 5 years later.

BEWARE. This musical is perhaps one of the five worst pieces of music I have ever experienced. I began to wonder if the composer was attempting to make the world's worst musical. Listen for yourself and enjoy the disjunct vocal lines, the desperate attempt at "fun music", and - worst of all - how the highlight of the entire show both dramatically and musically is the insipidly awful "Heart and Soul". Stick to the movie because this baby is horrendous.

Perfect Release of a two-fer.......2004-11-20

The person who wrote the review below is wrong : the "Alone" album was recorded and released in mono sound, in 1957. "Judy in Love" was Garland's first album recorded and released in stereo, in 1958.

The sound on this disc is spectacular. The original session tapes were used, for the best sound possible. It is glorious sound here, folks.

Pehaps the person that wrote the review below is thinking of the previous two-fer of "Judy in Love" from England, a few years back, paired with the "Judy" album. That CD sounded very flat and dry.

Get this new and improved disc, and you'll love it.

Finally "Alone" on CD!.......2003-10-01

I just received this Judy "double bill" and I can only say it's GREAT!! "Alone" was always one of my favorite Judy albums, and I am more than pleased to have it on CD now. The sound is not stereo, as another reviewer point out, but it never was recorded in stereo. I have the old vinyl, and that's mono too, but also pretty worn, after all these years. The liner notes actually are pretty good too. The original covers are reproduced, with the original liner notes reprinted, AND some fresh liner notes about this re-issue. There, you can read that the "alone" recordings are from 1957, and that "Judy in Love" is from 1958, and was her first stereo album for Capitol.

So why is "alone" my favorite Judy album? Maybe simply because it was one of my first encounters with Judy, when I was 17 years old. I didn't realize at the time that the selection of songs is pretty unusual. It's not the repertoire she sang a lot in her live and TV shows. I love the mostly subdued pathos on this album, although she does belt it out occasionally, in her own inimitable way. The songs are about 'surviving on your own', and some times about finding your inner strength, in a bittersweet way. The album is not very cheerful, but it does make me feel good, in a sentimental way. The arrangements are very good, just right, in the 'proper' fifties style. The strings have a very warm quality, which wasn't always the case in those days. There is also a beautiful large choir singing in the background on some tracks.
Some of the songs are very unknown, which makes this album special too. Happy New Year, for instance, is a beautiful torch song, written over a very slow version of Old Lang Syne in minor key; a real gem of a song! Blue Prelude is also a great song, so don't be discouraged by the titles you may not know.
All in all, a 'must have' for any Judy fan, but also a wonderful introduction if you want to get acquainted with Judy's singing. "Judy in Love" is an excellent example of her warm joyful singing, while "Alone" gives you all those wonderful torch songs. A balanced package, with a passionate Judy in great voice!!

Terrible sound and terrible packaging.......2003-06-27

Let me rant. This CD has 2 albums on it. 1 is mono and the other stereo!? I have these albums on records and they are both stereo. I feel ripped off. Also, these albums do not sound anywhere like the records in quality. In fact, they sound very boring and lacking of any sort of life. Judy did very big, exciting production numbers and the sound on this CD makes them sound stale and dead. I returned this CD and demanded my money back. The store clerk said I wasn't the only one. Thumbs way down.

JUDY AT HER BEST with SPECTACULAR SOUND!.......2002-05-11

JUDY IN LOVE is perhaps Garland's greatest studio album. A superb collaboration with Judy in wonderful voice, and arranger Nelson Riddle at the top of his form. Inexplicably, this album is only now making its CD debut in the U.S. Capitol Records seemingly had no interest in releasing it themselves, so they've sublicensed it to S&P Records, who have done a terrific mixing and remastering job. Comparing the sound to a recent UK import is overwhelmingly impressive. The UK release sounds mediocre, and this new issue belies its having been recorded 44 years ago.
JUDY IN LOVE is paired with her monaural ballad album ALONE, which was arranged and conducted by Gordon Jenkins. The two albums together are a distinct contrast and yet only show the versatility and mastery of Garland. The highlight of the ALONE tracks is Jenkins' schmaltzy, yet irresistable I'VE GOT A RIGHT TO SING THE BLUES. ALONE was previously issued on CD by Capitol years ago, but has been long out of print, so this collection is a dream come true for Garland fans.

The 5 Star rating is for the recordings and the way they've been beautifully produced. It does not, however, represent a true rating for the package itself, which has been saddled with awful,
amateurish liner notes which are so poorly written that it's a blatant insult to Garland. What a shame the producers who took such care in creating such a great sounding album, didn't bring the same kind of excellence to the accompanying package. This should not detract anyone from buying this CD, but buyers looking for an interesting commentary on the legendary lady and these specific tracks will have to go elsewhere.

Garland the Great.......2002-05-02

A beautiful compilation of two classic, original "Judy" albums. These are two of the six studio albums she recorded for Capitol in the fifties, and these are probably the best. While Judy's vocal tone is not at its best on "Judy in Love", the song selections and her interprative genius make up for the slight vocal imperfections. "More Than You Know", "I Am Loved" and "By Myself" are absolute delights, and are clearly definitive versions of these songs. In addition, the ballads shine with passion and tenderness. "Alone" is mostly filled with similarly tender songs, and on this one Garland is in fine, full voice throughout. "Little Girl Blue" is a particular standout, and the addition of the never before released "Then You've Never Been Blue" is a special treat for fans and newcomers. Popular singing doesn't come any better than this.

It's Me Again is a bad name for a great record, the reason being that the sound that bumps infectiously through around half of these 16 tracks is distinctively Missy Elliott's (she executive produced). "Turn Da Lights Off," the opening song after a space-wasting, self-congratulatory intro, crackles for a moment with what sounds like an old Supremes sample, then off we go—each subsequent joint doles out some unexpected aural treat, be it the whomp-bomp of "Iceberg," the dreamy '70s coast-along of "Cab Ride," or the clever boogie-woogie of "Sports, Sex & Food" (listen up, girls). The small screen in simpler days is a major theme, with Tweet revisiting "Kojak" and "Taxi" for samples; when she's not channel-surfing for sounds, the sturdy-voiced chanteuse sticks around the era to rework "We Don't Need No Water." Honestly, "Turn Da Lights Off" is still not the best track on the album that showcases her vocals, depth, and growth. But I knew that she would do it AGAIN. Tweet is just pure talent and her voice evokes so much emotion and this time around- STRENGTH. Right now my favorite tracks are:

"You"- she sings "I don't know why, I saw a prize in you....."

"Iceberg"- talking bout how she searched the world for him and
he turned so so cold, I can relate.

"Steer"- this in my opinion should be a single, the beat is off
glass, the words are on point and her voice just does
it. "I remember what you said, while you were
laying in my bed. Believing every word you said,
you putting crazy thoughts in my head."

"I'm Done"- not saying that she is giving up on love, but next
go round she is telling love to make it "worth her
while". But in the meantime she is done putting up
with drama and "many sleepless nights". All of us
who love hard can relate to this.

I love the entire album and I love Tweet's presence as an artist and as a real down to earth person. For those of us who are not completely absorbed in this Lil' Jon or Ciara era, this is what it is about. Real music.......Like I said before when she released "Southern Hummingbird", Tweet to me is R&B and Soul music's saving grace. Support her and buy the album, it is well worth it.........

For Better Or Worse, Not The Tweet We Grew To Love.......2007-02-03

If there's anything that makes R&B singer / songwriter / guitarist Tweet stand out from the pack, it's her naturally raw sexuality (in other words, she doesn't rely on breathy come-ons and lyrical sleaze, with the possible exception of her irresistible debut single "Oops") and her surprising vocal and musical restraint (in other words, she doesn't resort to melismatic caterwauling à la Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, etc.). "Southern Hummingbird", the debut album of this talented, New York-born songstress, was a near-perfect set of R&B/Soul-leaning material, so Tweet naturally has a lot to live up to, especially after a 3-year absence and a debut single that'd probably be one of the raunchiest, sexiest and weirdest R&B songs of 2002, if not this decade ("Oops", featuring a disarming verse by Missy Elliott).

Unfortunately, there is nothing here on "It's Me Again", Tweet's sophomore album, that even comes close to matching the aforementioned song, and the actual album as a whole doesn't match up to her debut in terms of quality. Ironically, the worst tracks tend to be the ones with Missy Elliott's and/or Timbaland's fingerprints - Missy Elliott's annoying shouting and unnecessary guest verses ruin potentially good songs like the Funk-lite, minimalist club cut "Things I Don't Mean" and the otherwise sexy slow jam (and lead single) "Turn The Lights Off" (though I can't congratulate Missy Elliott for her vocal contributions, I applaud her for incorporating Nat King Col's "Lost April" & portions of Luther Vandross' "If This World Were Mine" so effectively on the latter song); "We Don't Need No Water" is straight-up garbage, driven by weak, minimalist production that works against Tweet's (usually) smooth croon and Missy Elliott's (usually) appealing personality; and Tweet's soulful, smooth voice seems to get swallowed up by Timbaland's mix of sound effects and instrumentation on the God-awful track "Steer".
The only other piece of filler on the album is "Two Of Us", a balladic duet between her daughter Tashawna (surprising or not, she sounds like a mini-Tweet, if that's possible) that's as sentimental as it is cheesy.

However, there are gems to be found, most of them coming from moments when Tweet and cohorts switch up the tempo without screwing anything up. "Iceberg" is a beautiful, Latin guitar-driven ballad that opens up with smooth horns before Tweet proceeds to mourningly sing of a "sinking" relationship (yes, I notice the pun); "When I Need A Man" is a sexy, up-tempo club number that beautifully blends R&B, Funk, Soul and faint Middle-Eastern musical influences with Tweet's surprisingly strident vocals; lively drums and piano keys steadily rush beneath Tweet's confident vocal delivery on "Sports, Sex & Food", a generally dead-on (if not cynical) tutorial into a typical man's heart; and "Cab Ride", which contains material from the theme song to TV show Taxi ("Angela") and is driven by a soothing flute, is another beautiful ballad that's both relaxing and depressing at the same time.

For better or worse, the rest of the album is pretty much more of the same music you've heard before, only that's it's executed with less emotion and enthusiasm. After listening this album, I was no longer surprised as to why this album failed to match up to "Southern Hummingbird" commercially or critically. Lets hope Tweet comes back a third time around to blow us away again like she did before. Until then...3.5 stars!

Tweet disappoints with a very slow-paced, boring set where almost every song sounds the same. Most songs are half-baked ideas or just plain lackluster and uninspired. A few tracks prove to be worthy of a listen, but most could have been left behind.

Part II.......2006-08-02

It's Me Again is the sophomore effort from Tweet with elements of sophistication and mature sound. Nine of the sixteen tracks, Tweet either written or co-written for a personal touch for this album. Missy Elliott, who Executive Produced this project, took part in some co-writing of seven tracks, featured on three, and co-produced or produced seven tracks as well to assure the success of this album, but Tweet actually has talent and don't need to shadow Missy's success for her own. This album begins with "Intro (It's Me Again)" that has a mature feel with a gospel twist as she thanks for the opportunity given to release new material as she states "...I'm grateful for another
chance to bring to you..." "Turn Da Lights Off" featuring Missy Elliott is the perfect opener for this album with the savvy production layered and arranged to perfection. The Spanish introduction definitely a strong point to the sexy "Iceberg" quickly changes to a 70's slow groove with a bright horn section and modern drums gives off the classic vibe with the remaining static. "Could It Be" featuring Rell is a modern mature duet that gives a hint of upliftment and growth. Tweet attempts with near triumph to save "You" as the off-beat sample throws the song to oblivion as well as the overall production. The lyrics and the vocals was the only thing to maintain interest.
Incorporating the "Taxi Theme" with the production by Nisan Stewart and Craig Brockman on "Cab Ride" is a highlight for this LP. "Things I Don't Mean" featuring Missy Elliott is an up-tempo disco / roller rink feel with the humorous and memorable lyrics to match. To add to the variety, "My Man" has a live feel with its instrumentation brings you first row center to Tweet's vocal delivery. She takes attempts to teach women how to get to a man's heart on "Sports, Sex & Food". Tweet does a good job, of course coming from a man, but falls short with the weak
production. "Small Change" and "Steer" are not standouts nor a highlight, but it is good enough to complete the package. Another smooth, upbeat R&B track "Two Of Us" featuring Tashawna (Tweet's daughter) is a good song that is if you like Tweet because her daughter sounds like a younger version as they each take a verse and layer the hook. "Where Do We Go From Here?" is an acoustic gem with an almost alternative / pop twist to it along the same line with an incessant bass on "I'm Done". "We Don't Need No Water" featuring Missy Elliott comes to rescue the strength found on the beginning of the album with a dance appeal to get the party moving. It's Me Again covers all aspects without anything left uncovered.

Sophistication never sounded better..........2006-01-20

Unlike a lot of her fans who perceived a more chilled out direction than her beat driven debut as a fault of production & the sophmore jinx, I saw "It's Me Again" as an accomplished modern R&B record. It certainly has been one of my most played albums of the past year & still receives much play.

Missy's production is able to recall the adult aspects of 1970's R&B & pair it with current hip hop trends to make it appeal to a younger demographic. But approach with caution, this isn't all about hooks! Despite several funk numbers: "Things I Don't Mean" which rolls with a vintage disco vibe & the "We Don't Need No Water" jam smokes with new school charm; the album's true face is in the ballads.

The ballads which Charlene (her real name) delivers with a smooth, smoky, yet emotive quality work their charm. Many of the ballads such as the lead single "Turn Da Lights Off" have jazz, various latin percussion, & orchestral textures which gives the album musical weight. It isn't the same drum loop over & over.

Highlights include "Iceberg" & "You" both ballads indicate the bittersweet tang of heartbreak well, both include the musical textures I mentioned above, "Turn Da Lights Off" almost suffers under Missy's charismatic, but needless hype at the beginning. But the track utilizes a hip hop edge & a retro soul vibe that is contagious. "Steer", & the coup de grace "Cab Ride" (utilizes a sample from the theme of the show "Taxi") come to mind.

Lyrically, I like that because Charlene is a bit older, it isn't the same "chirpy" attitude some of the younger R&B chanteuses have. A variety of moods, from melancholic to euphoric are evoked.

Overall, the record suffered due to lack of promotion (Ciara, Missy's new protege got her mediocre record pushed) & a lead-single that was a ballad. Though I applaud Charlene for the lead-off single because it was different & gave the album a very romantic appeal. As an album, I liked the entire scope of it really. Even songs that I was ambivlent about at first (i.e.-"Could It Be?") were pleasantly well done, & grew with repeated spins. A very cohesive record is important to me, but each song has it's own charismatic appeal...so it doesn't get boring.

Overall, it is hip enough with it's modern flares for people like me, but sports a more mature attitude (without pretention) to warrant an older audience giving it a spin.

For those Sarah Brightman fans who didn't spring for The Songs That Got Away when it was a pricey import, this domestic release will be a must-buy. Originally recorded in 1989 shortly after she achieved international fame in The Phantom of the Opera, the album spotlights obscure American and British musical theater songs that either were removed from shows or were "lost" when the shows themselves slipped out of the repertoire. (Of course, some of the songs aren't nearly as obscure as they were in 1989--the opening track, Stephen Schwartz's soaring "Meadowlark," has since been claimed by Liz Callaway, Patti LuPone, and Betty Buckley, while Stephen Sondheim's "I Remember"--well suited to Brightman's glasslike tones--is now recognized as one of his most gorgeous and haunting compositions.) Brightman performs well on this diverse collection of entertaining and often lovely songs, including an early draft of Frank Loesser's "Fugue for Tinhorns," here sung as a triple-tracked, lilting waltz, and the Puccini aria "Chi il bel sogno di doretta," which foreshadows her later, more ambitious crossover projects. For Fans of Broadway (Sondheim, Hamlisch & Bernstein e.g.):.......2007-02-24

This is an interesting and surprising production that showcases the vocal prowess of Sara Brightman. It is not however, representative of the new and highly overproduced vocal productions that constitute her newer recordings. Although this production really allows the listener to hear a very melodic and unencumbered vocal performance, as it is pleasing in it's simplicity, yet meant for the more discriminating listener. Fans of Irving Berlin, Andrew Lloyd Weber, and Richard Rodgers will feel right at home here. For those seeking another major sonic production as in Eden, La Luna, Dive, or The Harem Tour this is not it! My criticism is not of her vocal prowess or production values but the apparently endless array of previously released material offered as a new and different recording. But I suppose that this is rather due to the greedy objectives of of A&M Records just trying to go to the bank, often and laden heavy with dollars. Nothing that any label wouldn't try to do. My advice with Sara Brightman is "caveat emptor" (buyer beware) check the disc carefully for redundancy of tracks within her discography. If you're a fan of this genre of music, you will probably respond quite well to this recording.

The songs that didn't get away.......2004-02-12

This is one of my favorite albums by Sarah. She surprised me with her ability to go from light opera to jazz. Here we don't find the over-produced albums such as Harem, just a superbly trained voice. No little girl breathy tunes here, just solid performances. This is the Sarah Brightman that I like to remember and enjoy. If you see this album and you're a Sarah Brightman fan, pick it up and treasure it. I'd like to see her do more of thisgenre, where she showcases her voice. Who ever thinks that Sarah has a small voice will be convinced otherwise by this album.

Songs that showcase Sarah's theatrical gifts.......2003-12-11

Before experimental albums like Dive and Fly, as well as the ones where her classically-trained voice enchanted millions, Sarah Brightman did a collection of musical and theatrical songs originally released in 1989, but reissued when she made it big with Time To Say Goodbye. Her vocal style leans towards the theatrical Broadway side, but more mellowed. But on songs like the strings-laden mid-tempo "Meadowlark" from Stephen Schwartz's The Baker's Wife, the way she would later do splendidly interpret Lloyd Webber's songs is in the making. Here are other highlights, including those that were reissued on Sarah's Encore album (2002).

Stephen Sondheim's "I Remember" is a sad ballad told from the POV of a window mannequin remembering the sights it has experienced throughout the seasons, but the memories are now hazy and at the end, it sings, "At times I think/I would gladly die/for a day of sky."

Some songs like "Lud's Wedding" from Bernstein's failed bicentennial musical, only seem to work due to Sarah's voice. Ditto for the simple "Three-Cornered Tune." Consisting of three verses, each repeated twice. However, Irving Berlin's "Mr. Monotony", a tune understandably cut from Easter Parade, is not a particularly inspiring song.

Marvin Hamlisch's "Dreamers" is one of my favourites here, as I have affinity to it, and I'm sure Sarah is one at heart as well. "Only dreamers have wings with which to fly far away", as in their own fantasies, but unfortunately, "sometimes dreamers are forced to leave their dreams far away", i.e. the harshness of reality. However, it paints them in a positive light and states that everyone needs to have some sort of dream "to take time to find treasures and mountains we can climb."

"Silent Heart" really showcases Sarah's voices, on how some things the heart is best left silent, as in things that really thrill it. "If I Ever Fall In Love Again" is taken from The Crooked Mile and is a nice love song Sarah really wraps herself in.

"Chi Il Bel Sogno Di Doretta" from Puccini's La Rondine is a great showcase of the operatic voice that would come into full bloom on Time To Say Goodbye. This song would be reissued on Encore.

"Away From You" by Richard Rodgers, and taken from a musical biog of Henry VIII (!!!). "The clocks are frozen and time's a traveler who's lost his way" is one of the sentiments Sarah conveys effectively. Also reissued on Encore.

"If love were all, I should be lonely" sings Sarah from Noel Coward's Bittersweet, "If Love Were All" was the one song that stood out for me when I first heard this CD. The ability of a talent to amuse is seen as a solid standing for mental security. A definite standout here.

From Lloyd Webber's Jeeves, the lush strings of "Half A Moment" features the vocal stylings familiar enough to those who have Sarah's Andrew Lloyd Webber Collection. It focuses on how important the capture of a moment to bright up a future rainy day is. Also reissued on Encore.

Initially, I dismissed this as the songs that should've stayed away. Although they lack the magical punch of Time To Say Goodbye or La Luna, it's still a worthwhile collection, because Sarah's clear birdlike theatrical/musicals voice makes it all worthwhile.

Good, for Sarah Brightman.......2003-08-25

Some people just love Sarah's voice, but I don't see what's so special about it. She sings in two sorts of ways, the first one is lovely, simple, forgetable, and the other sounds like Stitch with a high voice. This CD does her justice, though. A lot of the tunes are catchy and nice (how she sings them could be better) but the one I really like is "Three cornered tune." Now that's a good song! She does not have a particularly bad voice, but nothing interesting - that's for sure. And when she tries to act in her music she sounds even worse! But that's alright. After all, everyone has a different style. A highlight of this CD includes "Mr. Monotony," which, unfortunatly, did not come with lyrics in the CD case. Too bad, because its a great song. At the end of this record, though, she writes about these songs and - wow! It is amazing how many shows that song was taken out of! At one point it said it had Judy Garland singing it, and when I try to imagine her doing it I know that must have been awesome. I really want to hear Judy Garland singing this song sometime. Maybe I'll find it here on Amazon... But anyway, back to Sarah Brightman. The only other thing I can think of to say at the moment is that from what I've heard of her records, this is as good as it gets. And also, the track titled "Dreamers" is nice. I like the tune and she doesn't sing it too bad, either. It would be a good song to be played at a graduation. Only after a while the sound of it gets a little creepy and annoying. And its sticky, too. "Silent heart" is a classic, though she shouldn't sing it twice. For you see, she sings it, and then you think, "Ah, that's a sweet song. Wonderful words, soft tune," and the music gets at a great stoping point and then comes back for an encore (as one of Sarah's other records is titled). And then we have to listen to it all over again - and its not as good the second time. So overall is it good? Yes, it is. Though perhaps not good enough.

Pleasant, but not up to standard.......2003-06-22

I love Sarah Brightman's singing and her musical style as presented on Eden and La Luna. This CD is completely different in style from those two. I find it enjoyable, but it is not my favorite. Her singing is nothing special on this CD, it doesn't display her vocal range or talent in the way that her other CDs do, especially her CD "Surrender", her vocals are absolutely stunning on that CD.
