Fans of tried-and-true gutbucket R&B have much cause for joy this spring: there's a new crop of down-home, take-no-prisoners love-men and -women in town, and leading the pack is Jaheim, a roughneck Romeo from New Jersey. Signed to ex-Naughty By Nature DJ Kay-Gee's Divine Mill imprint (and with production mainly by Mr. "Hip Hop Hooray"), Jaheim's tender-but-tough sound harks back to Teddy Pendergrass: just listen to the sexy moan that kicks off the single "Could It Be." Not even remotely shabby. As this debut's title indicates, Ghetto Love overflows with rough-hewn odes to romance on the raw side of town. In this case, that means songs about giving as much love to one's niggas as to one's bitches, denying paternity, and rhymes about Hennessey. It might look clichéd on paper, but Jaheim is skilled enough to transcend trite truisms. On the smoky "Looking For Love" and the finger-snapping "Let It Go," he earns his stripes, making his mark with a taut CD that has an old playa's soul and a new jack's swagger. --Amy Linden

5 out of 5 stars Jaheim- Ghetto Love.......2007-06-06

Whoa! I cannot find the words to even begin to describe this album. This album is a masterpiece from head to toe. He mastered the mellow/relax r&b...on his first album! I mean this album is exactly what the title reads... GHETTO LOVE. It is just that ghetto as hell make love on the floor til my knees start to bleed r&b music. I mean how is anyone goin to ever compete with this album? And by anyones standards unless this album goes diamond two times it going to be underated. Period. It is so perfect that i really dont think even Ja knows he made such a work of art. This is that love making/ rolling around the city with the top back music at its best. And his voice is one to kill for. You wont hear another voice like his in a while. The song "Just In Case" is so ghetto and smooth that you can just sit back in a hot tub or in your bed and chill without a thought on your mind. The title track "Ghetto Love" ... well lets just say will have you hot in a sexond. And most people dont even know who Ja is. And that is a shame. He should be more know than Usher. The production could have been a bit better but other than that this is a perfect album. And its only his first, which mean he can only rise from this album. Scary thought isnt it. This album is to good for words, just take my advice and buy it you wont be dissapointed. This man can sing better than anyone in the game right now, this man can make music better than anyone in the game right now period. BUY IT!!!

5 out of 5 stars JAHEIM IS SO OFFICIAL.......2007-04-03

I have been in love with Jaheims soulful vioce every since I heard "Could it be" on his first album. Most people like hearing the more commercial voices in the music industry but Jaheims voice I can truly say is one of the best ever. The Soul in his voice is unmatched by anyone. I bought all of his albums and I must say that I am in love with all of them. I can't wait to hear what he will come out with next.

5 out of 5 stars A decent debut.......2007-01-22

Jaheim's first single off of this album was Could it be. I remember distinctly being about fourteen when i first saw the video. I was at the salon and wasn't too impressed by him at all. After that i didn't think about him again until Just in case came out some months later. The concept of the video and the song was excellent and I loved it. I've never been into hard r&b, but this album i did like. the songs are about real situations that people go through, it's not all glamourous like song artists. I like that quality of jaheim's music. The only flaw i found in this album were the lyrics. A lot of the lyrics seem extremely amateur, like the person who wrote the song wasn't really creative or trying hard. It is a decent debut. Jaheim sophomore and junior albums are MUCH better.

5 out of 5 stars Ja.......2007-01-19

I love Jaheim. He's got that Teddy P and ghetto thing going on. So sexy. I loved this CD when it came out before but never bought it.

5 out of 5 stars Jaheim is the best.......2006-07-18

I bought this CD again because my daughter and her boyfriend hijacked my copy. I listen to a lot of music across different genres but NO ONE does it better than Jaheim. I put this on when I'm cleaning up, put it on when I'm riding and just thrill at the sound of his voice. His lyrics capture the streets but also showcase his capacity to love.

4 out of 5 stars Some of Trip Hop's best.......2003-12-20

I've had this CD for a few years now and I consider it an essential part of my binder. My favorite songs on the album are "The Beat Goes On" by Basco, "Terminal Intensity" by Wizard of Oh and "Weekend Starts Here" by Fatboy Slim. I used to hear the Basco track at raves back in the day and it sounded a lot better at a faster tempo, but its still a good track. The Wizard of Oh track sounds in some ways similar to my all time favorite Prodigy song, Poison, and the Fatboy Slim track sounds similar to a once popular Snoop Doggy Dogg song. This album was made around the same time so the DJ's and producers were using the same machines. Its interesting to hear how different ideas materialized using the same medium. This is definitely not to say that these songs are a rip off of other commercial hits. As for "Nothing Like Tomorrow" thats my least favorite song on this album and I don't feel it even belongs on here. I skip this track every time I get to it. I just cant stand the bassline. I'm not an authority on the matter, but I don't think that track even qualifies as Trip Hop.

1 out of 5 stars The Oversoul Song.......2001-03-26

Please ignore the rating, but if you listen to the sample the song "Nothing Like Tomorrow" and really like it, or if you have the CD and really like that song check out the band "Supreme Beings of Leisure" because it sounds like it is them under a different name. Their debut is self-titled and pretty good. In fact a different version of "Nothin' like Tomorrow" appears on it. I don't think they sound at all like Portishead-- Much more upbeat.

2 out of 5 stars Is missing something.......2000-06-11

In my opinion, this CD is a all right but needs to be listened to couple of times before you can really start to appreciate it. It doesn't have anything that really grabs your attention at the first time so it is a potential for one of those CD's that is forgotten after a while. It is also missing the depth to it and is all to alike. I liked Nothing Like Tomorrow - Oversoul 7 the most. It reminded me of Portishead and was the only song that really got to me. It had a mysterious sound to it and by listening to it you feel like you are drifting away. I am an avid fan of music that gets deep into the soul and has a beautiful sound. Most of the other songs on the CD were too alike to each other. I personally prefer more variety I would recommend this CD if you have patience and are ready to listen to it couple of times before you start liking it. I have to admit that I do not know much about the other music they have made so I wouldn't be able to compare it to that so I will leave it to say that I am willing to keep this CD but I would not invest in any others without prior listening.

      Product Description

The world is a ghetto, just like the 70s band War used to say. We live in a global neighborhood where there are more ghettos in the world than upper-class enclaves, sleepy suburban tract homes and middle-class row houses combined. Dave Ghetto repping Camden, New Jersey brings forth his solo debut. Love Life? is warm and filled with real soul while still keeping the subject matter raw and gritty much like the city that produced this witty wordsmith. The musical backdrop and features are provided by Tony Galvin, Denaun Porter (D12), 9th Wonder, Square, Cee-Lo Green, Phonte of Little Brother, Mystic, YahZarah , each bringing their talents adding to the classic sound of Love Life? as a whole cohesive unit. His album is already being compared to many classics, reconfirmed by many features in magazines. "Love Life?" caters to EVERYONE. This album is not targeted to one niche, IT IS MUSIC and already getting huge acclaim: "Dave Ghetto is street, lyrical, floetic, and brings me home to the game naturally" Fat Joe "DG brings me back to the HIP HOP I love to produce, Heads will be bobing." Just Blaze Dave Ghetto is simply the truth...this is what hip hop needs...dope beat wit dope lyrics...this went into my rotation from day 1 DJ Jazzy Jeff Dave Ghetto is one of the flyest emcees I know. Some rappers (like Jigga & Mos) are just soooo natural and Dave is definitely one of those emcees. Whether hes uplifting the young cats with one of his classic stories or just making a party jam hes always so finesse about it. I wish hip hop had more emcees like Dave!!! - Jack Splash of Plantlife Dave is part of what's good with Hip-Hop. It's been a long time coming but he has arrived with styles that remind me why I love this craft. Mystic

4 out of 5 stars (4+half star) I LOVE this more than LIFE!!.......2006-08-21

If like me, you've become totally disillusioned with the state of hiphop in general and the total lack of high standard of mc's then this is for you. Not only does DAVE GHETTO rock a mic on a whole other level but he also has an almost unnatural uncanny voice that sounds like MOS DEF. Now let me emphasise this "he doesnt sound similar, he actually sounds like Mos Def." This is honestly the album that Mos should have made instead of the weak "the new danger". Not only does Dave Ghetto sound like him but he actually delivers flows with alot more humour in them, in short, in my opinion he's better. The only reason i didnt give this 5stars was i found the production abit too relaxed+jazzy at times and would've preferred 1 or 2 more uptempo tracks. A very minor complaint when you get the pleasure of hearing this body of work, believe me. As i just stated the production is really smooth with jazzy horns and cool keys laced over funky basslines+beats. His lyrical scope is excellent as Dave shows us a wide range of topics that he tackles almost effortlessly. Standout cuts are "day in, day out", "static" (brilliant tale of a bad relationship), "the game", "ready for war" (awesome), "thats that joint" and the hilarious "groupie sex". But really any of the tracks could be regarded as standouts, there isnt a skipable track in sight. A must have for any hiphop fans collection.

absolutely hot!! i'm a neo soul junkie, but i was actually feeling this!! i think its cos there were elements of the basic neo soul sound in some songs, but anywayz....the production is HEAVY.. laawd hav mercy!! jus go and buy it!!........

THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY "ILL ILL ILL", MAN THIS ALBUM IS PURE ILL HIPHOP MUSIC. THE BEATS AND PRODUCTION IS CRAZY, SMOOTH HIPHOP BEATS ALL DAY AND DAVE GHETTO'S MC'S SKILLS IS JUST AS ILL. HE REMINDS U OF MOS DEF. LET ME PUT IT THIS WAY, IF THE MINSTREL SHOW IS THE SICKEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR, THAN DAVE GHETTOS LOVE LIFE? IS NOT FAR BEHIND, NO JOKE, ITS THAT DOPE. 5 out of 5 stars Smooth like butter.......2003-05-24

I believe that Jaheim has a voice that reminds me of butter, it is rich and smooth. Could it be? I think that he will be around for a while.

          5 out of 5 stars THUG LOVE!.......2002-01-27

Jaheim's new CD, "Ghetto Love," is the best. He sings about his love and promises to the love of his life! This CD is sensual, care free, and loveable! His GHETTO LOVE passion is one of a kind.

3 out of 5 stars A new talented voice of the new generation.......2001-07-05

Jaheim is a new talent for the next generation. He brings us a full album to hear the hard work he has put into. He had his chance at 16 years old as an amateur on Showtime at the Apollo. Now he has been added to DJ Kier Gist's (Naughty By Nature) record label, Divine Mill. "Could It Be" is the first single to be released. "Just in Case" is the current single. If you love the producion of Kier Gist/DJ KG, you will find a that "Just in Case" resembles "Wifey" from Next. This is a must-have for those R&B music lovers.
