Editorial Reviews

Between 50 Cent's fearless bravado, Lloyd Banks's lispy lyrical proclamations, and the Southern drawl of Young Buck, the G-Unit's buzz factor alone have placed them atop the rap game. Their debut, Beg for Mercy, demonstrates how they plan on staying there. Their secret? No throwaway beats, keep the thugs happy. The sheer range and diversity of head-nodding beats--supplied by everyone from Hi-Tek and Dr. Dre to 7th EMP (who shrewdly samples Bach)--makes you forget their rather linear range of subject matter. Yep, the G-Unit is obsessed with violence and guns, but death threats never sounded so good. On "My Buddy," for instance, they cleverly describe in no uncertain terms how they feed this buddy--with bullets--and why they take him on family outings. Gunshot sound effects included. For some balance, the crew tries to disprove any theories that they're all about shootouts: Banks serenades a hottie on "Smile" while R&B crooner Joe drops by on the souled-out "Wanna Get to Know You" to prove that thugs need love too. It all makes for one of 2003's best releases. --Dalton Higgins

1 out of 5 stars O O O O O O O O O O ONE STAR!.......2006-08-16

When will amazon allow a zero stars rating?????

1 out of 5 stars Virushan is an idiot........2006-08-15

Not only does this stupid POS adore Atreyu, Slipknot, D4L, and G-Unit; he says Slayer and Kreator are jokes. Virushan, you're a poser with a horrid taste in music, stop playing with Corey Taylor's trouser snake and get a life.

Now to this, this is one of the worst rap albums from one of the worst rap groups of all time. Just think 50 Cent multiplied by four, thats how bad this is.

Want good rap? Go for Public Enemy, Ice T, KRS-One, and the Beastie Boys.

Virushan is a stupid mallcore kid with no life or friends.

Whoever shot Fitty', try again...with an AK-47 loaded with hollow points.

5 out of 5 stars BEST ALBUM EVA!!!.......2006-08-14

this is the best album eva! g-unit are definatly my fav band of all time. this is a true masterpiece that blows away stupid soft rock bands like slayer, kreator, and old metallica. they also r so much better than stupid rap groups like public enemy or nwa. 50 cent is a genious! hes the masta at rapping. he can show posers like dr. dre or flava flav how 2 rap. this is pure musical genious!!! buy this masterpiece now!

since this is my first review, im gonna tell you whats good or whats bad.

good:
real rap groups like g-unit, 50 cent, chingy, or new snoop dogg.
real rap/rock like limp bizkit, linkin park, crazy town, or pod.
real death metal like slipknot, marilyn manson, atreyu, bleeding through, or korn.
real thrash like trivium or new metallica.
real punk like simple plan or good charlotte.

bad:
stupid thrash groups like kreator(worst band ever), slayer, old metallica, or pantera.
stupid death metal like death, cannibal corpse, children of bodom, or deicide.
fake punk like the ramones or the clash.

if u disagree wit my opinions (like those idiots mills and the metal master 92) than u r gonna pay 4 it!

2 out of 5 stars A tad overrated.......2006-12-18

I dont hate g-unit. More or less I hate the hype that was around them and the hype around this album. Standout Tracks:POPPIN THEM THANGS, MY BUDDY, G'D UP, LAY YOU DOWN, GANGSTA S***, G-UNIT. Filler: I smell p****(diss record turned love jam? WTF?), Im so hood(no you're not), Stunt 101(crappy beat, booty lyrics), Groupie love, Betta Ask Somebody, Smile(they're dissing Ja while making songs like this?), Baby U Got, Salute U, Eye For Eye etc. Bottom Line: This album is one of the lowlights of the year hands down. In a rush to capitalize of the success of Get Rich Or Die Tryin 50 and crew put out this bad album. Lloyd Banks and Young Buck bust some decent verses here and there but 50 forgetaboutit! The production is weak plus the lyrics are below average. It might have sold 2 million copies but its not worth 50 cents.

If G-unit Isn't Platinum Effort Then Why Are They 8x Platinum And Still Growing?

5 out of 5 stars G-Unit.......2004-08-03

GGGGG G-Unit!! This is the best CD. This will really sky rocket G-Unit carrer and now that they added a girl to it that will help also. This Cd has lots of good songs and a couple singles too - Poppin Tham Thangs, My Buddy, Stunt 101, Wanna Get to Know You and Smile which is 50 and Banks' fav. song on the CD.
This is an awesome CD, def. one that you should get!

4 out of 5 stars HOT CD!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-05-20

This CD is great!! I think 50's better with G-Unit than alone. it also leaves the chance Eminem might leave D12 and join G-Unit!!

    Product Description

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. G-Unit: 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo. Producers include: Denaun Porter, DJ Twinz, Dr. Dre, Hi-Tek, Dirty Swift. Queens rapper 50 Cent ascended to the pinnacle of the hip-hop world in 2003, and the latter part of the year saw his crew, G-Unit, drop by with their own ubiquitous single "Stunt 101" and debut record, BEG FOR MERCY. Far from an entourage cashing in on one member's immediate success, the success of both 50 Cent and G-Unit is more of a chicken-and-egg situation. Since 1999, G-Unit's mixtape moments have been among the most sought after on the streets, helping to pump up 50 Cent's status until he exploded onto the mainstream. Unsurprisingly, BEG FOR MERCY delivers a blistering attack of street rap that survives on its own merits. While 50 Cent opens the show on "Poppin' Them Thangs," he quickly blends into the mix, as G-Unit features two other more-than-able lyricists equal to the task and well-versed in trading off with the wildly talented 50. Lloyd Banks brings an arrogant strut that plays off Buck's subtle yet angry drawl. Together and separately, they both play off 50's familiar laid back style. The most intriguing moment on BEG FOR MERCY is the torn "Footprints," which inserts a renowned religious poem into the middle of the gangster world, a fitting summation of the unique world view of G-Unit

4 out of 5 stars Great Album This Is What Put G-unit On The Rap Game Map.......2005-09-08

First Off beg for mercy is a great album , it was a bringin out party for 50 , Bank$ and Buck who later had very succesful albums , this album brings you some hott tracks as stunt 101 , poppin them thangs , smile , wanna get to know ya and my personal favorite g-unit song to date "My Buddy" , if you are a true g-unit fan or even hip hop fan you will like this album

1 out of 5 stars The Album that is still truly terrible from the start.......2005-02-24

I Used to think nelly's bad, but he's kid n play compare to thid disastrous and mean-spirited and utterly trashy group called G-Unit and this album Beg for Mercy is complete disasterzone, I Thought every single song is truly horrible, Stunt 101 is a rip-off of cash money and everything else about this album is really absolutely worthless, And for some people who compared this trash to NWA/Or better than them Should be ashamed of themselves, this group is the epitome and ground zero of what's everything bad about hip hop and you fans should be ashamed of yourselves for calling this a good group.

This is not only the worst hip hop album I've ever seen, but also the lead contender for the worst album of this decade.

G-Unit should be banned from every appearing in rap and hip hop.

A Truly Big Thumbs Down for Beg for Mercy.
