While the industry might be holding its collective breath waiting for the release of the next D'Angelo CD (current ETA: mid-March 2003), some of us have gotten on with our lives. Of course the reason we fiend for Mr. D is because he doesn't sound like your run-of-the-mill soul smoothie, and flashes of uniqueness are what keeps R&B fans from slitting their throats in frustration over the current ho-hum state of affairs. Enter singer-songwriter Donell Jones, whose second effort asks the question "What makes a hit?" The answer is his single "U Know What's Up": hooks upon hooks, a catchy melody, and a sexy but low-key vibe, put together in a way that's more than just retro-trendy. The rest of the Where I Wanna Be is classy and idiosyncratic without being too artsy--a perfect buy if you need a break from all the preening and smoke blowing that's all too common. --Amy Linden

Classic.......2007-04-12
Just Amazing.......2007-03-31
This is a classic, one that you will feel compelled to pull out over and over. Donnell does a fantastic job of telling us what he wants to bring to the world of music. Every song on this cd is meant for you to listen to. If you are hesitant, it is probably because you have not heard much from him in quite a while. This was his first cd, and he was hungry ready to prove to the world that he was Donell Jones.
Buy it, you'll be pleased.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
The Producers was the vehicle that first proclaimed Mel Brooks's decidedly singular comic vision as a film director in 1968. At the time, the world may not have been entirely ready for the depth charges of hilarity he unleashed; but more than three decades later, it seemed almost foreordained that the film's retooling as a full-fledged musical--directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman--would become the smash hit of the 2000-2001 Broadway season (even before opening at the St. James Theatre in April). Brooks is, of course, no stranger to the Broadway musical genre or to songwriting, but skeptics might find themselves taken by surprise at just how outrageously well all the threads come together for the new show. The film's absurd core vignette--the infamous "Springtime for Hitler"--if anything gains a few notches in hilarity when framed by a character-rich musical that comes off as both parody and valentine in its mimicry of Broadway's "golden age." Brooks (with the help of idiomatically expert arrangements by Glen Kelly) has cooked up a variety of numbers constituting a virtual primer of old-fashioned American musical comedy styles (there's even a toying with Cabaret-style decadence), but they're always coated with an extra layer of zaniness. In fact, the whole show becomes a Chinese box of parodies within parodies. But what really gets the whole mix working is a surefire cast headed by Nathan Lane playing Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick doing a delightfully nebbish turn with delusions of misplaced glory as his sidekick, Leo Bloom.
From his first big number (musically winking at Fiddler on the Roof), Lane hungrily lays claim to the role, undaunted by his formidable predecessor, Zero Mostel. Even on disc, you can visualize his over-the-top mugging as a dethroned "king of Broadway" who was "the first producer ever to do summer stock in the winter." Comedy, as they say, is all about timing, and that's exactly what Lane gets right. His interactions with Bloom, Franz Liebkind (Brad Oscar), and Roger de Bris (Gary Beach) are priceless, even when only in sound. As for the tunes, Brooks crafts a number of truly memorable ones--don't be surprised to find yourself horrified as you hum along with "Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop" and, of course, "Springtime for Hitler." --Thomas May

Spring Time for "The Producers".......2005-12-13
While "The Producers" Is not as musically complex or mature as other "Best Musical" scores of recent years (Spamalot, Avenue Q, Hairspray,) It is funnier than all of those put together. Nathan lane And Matthew Broderick Are perfectly cast in their roles and Caddy Hoffman is great, and when Ulla belt, she Belts!
the rest of the cast is amazing.
As for the song I can't think of one that I don't like, They are all great!
I would hope that the fact that the show makes light of Hitler doesn't turn you off, because you would be missing somthing great.
Mel Brooks = Brilliant.......2005-12-12
I was not disappointed. It was funny, racy, and downright fabulous. I bought the soundtrack at intermission and have been listening to it ever since. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves musicals. Lane and Broderick play off each other perfectly, Cady Huffman has one of the best belting voices I've heard in ages, and the songs are actually FUNNY.
Aside from raving about one of my favorite shows, I would like to address the comments made about the show downplaying Hitler and being racist towards Germans. In no way does this show downplay Hitler's terrible deeds. Bialystock and Bloom make several comments about how disgusted they are about the play- the fact that it is so insulting to our sensibilities is the reason why it was chosen in the first place. I am Jewish and have studied the Holocaust and WWII for years. I was not offended in the least, nor did I feel the Brooks was promoting or trivializing Hitler's war crimes. Brooks himself is Jewish for god's sake.
Second, I see nothing in the show that is racist towards Germans. Yes there is a Nazi in it who is German. How is that racist? The Nazis went all over the world after WWII- it is possible that several ended up in New York City. And no one will argue that some Nazi's were German. You might as well say that the show is discriminatory towards Swedes, or gay directors, or producers, or the countless number of things made fun of in the show.
it won 11 (if im correct) TONY awards for a reason!.......2005-12-08
So about the CD...awesome. I love these songs, and I am very much looking forward to seeing the movie version of the musical coming out in late December! GO SEE IT!

WHERE I WANNA BE.......2005-11-18
DAMIZZA PRESENTS
WHERE I WANNA BE
1.INTRO
2.WHERE I WANNA BE-the instant classic first single for the album, this track blew up the year it came out, straight summer tyme anthem. The fun bouncy energetic beat by KAY GEE & DAMIZZA is one of the best over all produced tracks to hit the rap game. And SHADE SHEIST opens things up nicely with a great verse, his distinct voice and flow fit the beat perfectly. Also u know it's hit when NATE DOGG spit, and it seems every song he does a hook for it blows up, and he also drops a nice verse. KURUPT ends things nicely with a final verse from the kingpin. 5/5
3.BLING DIAMANTE [INTERLUDE]
4.IS IT ME- the first thing we hear on this track is a nice smooth from beat Damizza and HOWIE HARSH, nice to chill 2. then we hear singer DAMON SHARPE dropping the hook, it's ok. But then KRAYZIE BONE drops a nice verse about these gold diggers out here. Next Sharpe drops a verse that to me is good, but not the greatest mind blowing singer out. Don't get me wrong dude can sing, definitely better then me, but he wouldn't be my first choice. Over all a solid track thow.3.5/5
5.IF YOU WERE MINE-Damizza drops another smooth beat for our listing pleasure, it's real addicting, people will definitely be bobbing their heads. Shade drops some more smooth vocals over this nice track, a nice track for the ladies. Also TATUM TOTS vocals glide over this beat with ease.4/5
6.HAVE A NICE DAY-Damizza opens things up with a short lil verse, nothing special. Then we hear CAZ all over the track with a high energized hook and nice verse. Then Shade appears again with a nice ass verse, the thing is each verse is to short leaving the song to come in at 2:10. also the beat from Damizza isn't up to par with the others, it's ok I guess but I can't really get into it.3/5
7.LIFE AIN'T A GAME-Damizza drops a nice beat to make up for the last, in fact I'am feeling the beat more then JA RULE. Not to say he doesn't hold it down though, in fact I like his verses. The way he spits to fit the beat is nice, and the hook is cool. A lot of people don't like Ja but any one who smashes EMINEM, is cool with Fatal Hussien or Hussien Fatal {depending on how u want to say it}, Tha Row, and Rap-A-Lot is all right with me. Over all good track, and addition to the album.4/5
8.LET ME DO MY THANG-Sharpe makes up for his last track with this one, I love how he kicks it on this track, in fact this could have been a single. The hook is great, and the way he lays down the verses fit the beat nicely. I like the story of the stalking ass girl friend breathing down his neck, I could see a nice video for this. And the beat by GREG LAWSON, and Damizza is way cool. I don't know why I like this song so much but I do.4/5
9.USED TO-finally one of the songs I was waiting for, TQ is in the house. The story in this song is great, the homie that u rolled with that blew and forgot everything, everyone, and forgot where he came from. U know the type, act like they are to good for everything. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks off of the album. Damizza drops a nice summer tyme feeling beat for this track.4.5/5
10.LORD WHAT HAVE I DONE-Krayzie Bone and Shade Sheist return along side LAYZIE BONE on this nice track. the stories in this song are tight, each has their own problems on this song and each comes off tight. And the beat from Damizza is real tight. And the hook is something most people will recognize.4/5
11.GET UR HEAD OUT UR ASS PLAYBOY-JERMAINE DUPRI drops his usual flashy style type of beat on this one, it's nice though. Shade rips the beat to pieces on this track with ease. Each verse gives proof of Shade's ability to be a major player in the game. Also why is JD doing his P.Diddy thing on this track.4/5
12.BOUNCE-TQ returns to drop a hook for Shade on this classic. The chorus is hella smooth, definitely off the hook. Shade drops some nice verses over this classic track, each verse is smooth. And to my surprise the man behind the boards on this bumpin track is none other then WARREN G. he definitely shows why he should be considered one of the games top producers.5/5
Over all this is a really good album that I recommend for everybody that wants some great music to ride to.
