The Hits 2

Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The second volume of Prince's collection of singles (and a couple of outtakes) has sex on the brain, and a few other places. Apparently aimed at, shall we say, the harder-core fan of the Artist, this disc still ends its parade of R-rated sallies ("Dirty Mind," "Sexy M.F.," "Head") with a cleansing "Purple Rain." And just to blur things even more, among its Top 10 hits are candidly horny moments like "Kiss" and "Little Red Corvette"--songs that add new twists to the African-American store of body-talkin' funkin'-blues poetry. --Rickey Wright

Tim McGraw's second greatest-hits collection in six years is also his ninth consecutive debut at #1 on the Billboard country charts. That means he must be doing something right. But what, precisely, aside from keeping up his hunk factor, and maturing his voice? Well--choosing dynamic songs that resonate at the very core of most folks' emotional center, for starters. So it's no surprise that this 16-song package kicks off with "Live Like You Were Dying," his ten-week #1 crossover hit. In addition to chart-toppers dating from 1995 ("Not a Moment Too Soon"), McGraw fills the track list with two smashes that never appeared on his own albums: his Grammy-winning duet with wife Faith Hill, "Like We Never Loved At All," and "Over and Over," the soulful Nelly confession in which McGraw, his voice technically altered, essentially serves as the rapper's tortured psyche. Of the four new songs, a cover of Ryan Adams's "When the Stars Go Blue" emerges as a stellar example of the pained loner ballads McGraw does so well, and brings to mind the faint desperation inherent in his interpretation of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer." And "My Little Girl," one of two rare McGraw co-writes here (joining "I've Got Friends Who Do"), draws on his experience as a parent and promises to flatten any father who's ever tucked in his daughter. Through the years, McGraw's on-record persona has evolved from the wimpish underdog ("Don't Take the Girl") to the strong, sensitive alpha male, both in his take-charge delivery and his sometimes edgy repertoire ("Red Ragtop"). All in all, this lengthy, hooky offering isn't just a "value pack" for McGraw fans--it's reason to hire a skywriter. --Alanna Nash

Album Description

Tim McGraw Reflected: Hits Vol 2, his second collection of greatest hits. Showcasing a body of work bookended by 1994's "Not A Moment Too Soon" and 2006's "My Old Friend," it is a reminder of the consistency and depth that have made him such an icon. Several of the songs are drawn from two albums he recorded in a mountaintop retreat with his touring band, 2002's Tim McGraw & the Dancehall Doctors, and 2004's Live Like You Were Dying. Together, they sold seven million copies, and between them they produced hits like "Watch The Wind Blow By," "Red Ragtop," "She's My Kind of Rain," "Real Good Man," and the ten-week #1, "Live Like You Were Dying," all of which are included here. The project also includes "Everywhere," from the CD of the same name, and "Grown Men Don't Cry" and "The Cowboy In Me," from 2001's "Set This Circus Down."

4 out of 5 stars good music.......2007-05-14

My daughter is getting married and wanted a song from this cd to use I was delighted that I liked the other music just as well

1 out of 5 stars Butchery.......2007-04-06

A decent collection overall of his "good" songs (I don't really like him anyways), but he completely manages to butcher "When the Stars Go Blue." The original is WAY better, and The Corrs covered it with Andrea and Bono (from U2) MUCH better. The country twang just totally kills the mood of the song. I am a professional audio engineer, and heard him do this song live and it just made me cringe. Skip this CD.

2 out of 5 stars not the best.......2007-03-28

Not Tim's best work. I only liked 1 of the tracks. Spend your money on his most recent albums. I don't think these were his greatest hits.

5 out of 5 stars Great songs on this CD.......2007-03-26

I love this entire CD. This one is worth it. Sometimes I have bought a CD for 1 or 2 songs. This one is full of great songs.

1 out of 5 stars He's Horrible.......2007-03-04

McGraw is a pretentious, talentless slimeball who exploits the ignorance and poor taste of his fans. His songs are mediocre at best and generally unlistenable to anyone who appreciates good music. Basically, he is a talentless slob who ranks among all the other bubble-gum pop/country performers as forgettable and pretentious.

And if that wasn't enough, he absolutely butchers Ryan Adams' beautiful song "When The Stars Go Blue." It's tough to hear McGraw hack such a lovely song, but at least Adams (who is one of the better singer/songwriters around in any genre) is making some money for it.

If you like good music or real artists, you should look elsewhere - perhaps check out Ryan Adam's original version of "When The Stars Go Blue". Regardless, McGraw is a classless act and a mockery to the country music establishment.

Queen brought a whole new meaning to the phrase over the top. While rock & roll flamboyance stretched back at least as far as Little Richard, Freddie Mercury continued to camp it up, taking little seriously and smirking at the music's growing pretensions while partaking in them no small bit. Many of the band's singles hold up extremely well, later tracks such as "Hammer to Fall" as much as prime-era numbers such as "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Killer Queen," and "You're My Best Friend." The quartet's canny sense of melody and sophisticated vocal harmonies--not to mention Mercury's raised eyebrow--have traveled well through the years. --Rickey Wright

This 2 cd set is a great sound of their best songs. The lyrics are written with a message for the listener. You will have a great experience just listening to the wonderful sound that you will hear

3 out of 5 stars Interested in early Queen?.......2007-07-18

FYI - if it's early Queen you're interested in - you know, stuff before that lemon of an album "Bicycle Races" - I strongly urge you to buy the original albums (starting with "A Day at the Races").

5 out of 5 stars Queen Greatest Hits.......2007-07-16

I really started to like Queen recently. Bohemian rhapsody is such a great song and really gets you moving. My husband likes running to this music. I am still getting used to some of the other songs, but I really like this CD. Whenever I listen to We Are the Champions, I think of the episode of Cheers when all of the bar boys pounded on the bar to this song. It's fun. As always, Amazon seems to have the best prices. I don't have to pay shipping or tax and save an additional dollar or two on top of that.

5 out of 5 stars Holy Moleee Canoli! Camooosh this is a piece of GOLD.......2007-05-23

This creation is one remarkable piece of history! I'm so thankful I got it, and for such a nice price you get almost 40 songs! With their incorporation of piano and Freddie Mercury's voice, and their guitarist- this thing just blows out your ears in amazement. I had heard so many of these songs on the radio, but who knew they did all of them? Bicycle Race first annoyed me with so much repitition, but with my love for bike-riding, it's become a motto for me to. Killer Queen is just WOWZERs... so sexy and loaded. And there's tons more, but I'll save those as super surpise you'll be glad you got!

5 out of 5 stars Best Double Box Set Ever.......2007-05-09

What can I say?!!?
Queen was the best - the songs are brilliant and theatrical.
Freddy M. will be forever one of the best performers - EVER.

Thanks for the greatest box set at the greatest price, Amazon!

At his best, as exemplified by his 1999 megahit "How Do You Like Me Now?!" Keith is simple and direct in the tradition of Hank Williams Jr.--aware of his limitations, able to thrive within them. "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)" struck a chord, though it differed little from the fist-shaking morale-boosters of previous wars. On the downside, Keith's formulaic tendencies can become tiresome, as it did on "My List," a generic celebration of life's mundane treasures. Sales notwithstanding, "Beer for My Horses" was no artistic landmark for Keith or duet partner Willie Nelson. By contrast, he and daughter Krystal have fun with the 1963 Inez and Charlie Foxx R&B hit "Mockingbird" (first revived by James Taylor and Carly Simon). "Go With Her" injects a different spin into the time-honored breakup song, wittiness absent on the gimmicky "Stays in Mexico." Raucous live performances of "You Ain't Much Fun" and his debut hit, "Should've Been a Cowboy," reflect his ability to rouse the faithful into the obligatory singalong. --Rich Kienzle

I bought this Greatest Hits 2 because it has a lot of my favorite songs on it. My favorites are: "How Do You Like Me Now"; "I'm Just Talkin' About Tonight"; "I Wanna Talk About Me"; "Beer For My Horses" duet with Willie Nelson; "Mockingbird" duet with Krystal; "You Ain't Much Fun"; and "Should've Been a Cowboy". I also like "Stays in Mexico". I had to buy another CD to get my very favorite "Big Blue Note". All in all this CD was well worth the money. By the way, I am a 67 year old grandma that loves country western music.

Smashing. A top-notch selection of up-to-date hits (How do you like me now?, Who's your daddy?), a memory trip with "Should've been a cowboy", some food for thought (My List), duets with Krystal and Willie Nelson (real duets and not just them singing in the back) and plain good old country pieces where Toby Keith gets to display his wry humor, raising that knowing smile that echoes better than a guffaw. In sum, if you were considering to get it, don't hesitate any longer. Do it! You will definitely not regret it. There are no weak spots in this CD.

You don't have to get very far into Alan Jackson's splendid second anthology of hits before you're struck by how well the rangy Georgian has built his catalogue and how beautifully Keith Stegall continually produces his songs, filling the instrumental breaks with unexpectedly creative solos. While Jackson's choice of cover songs is usually inspired ("Pop-A-Top," "Little Bitty"), he's a deft writer, alternating his tongue-in-cheek, Sheriff Andy Taylor persona with his "just a singer of simple songs" earnestness, lacing it all with an unfettered delivery and a Haggardesque dedication to the bedrock honky-tonk sound. There are times when he edges too close to formula, running the romanticized, small-town, cornbread-and-chicken conceits ("Where I Come From") into the ground. But then he quickly redeems himself with a lip-tremblingly good "Drive" or "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)." This package consists of two discs, 16 hits and two new cuts filling the first and an unnecessary and somewhat inferior eight album tracks occupying the second. Of the two new songs, the emotional husband-and-wife ballad "Remember When" handily outdistances the too-trite "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" with perennial smart-ass Jimmy Buffett. Jackson's too good an artist to settle for such an easy reach, but hey, let's cut him a little slack. He's paid his dues. --Alanna Nash

This is a tremendous album with some terrific songs on it. It truly defines the term "greatest hits album." Some of my favorite songs on it include "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning," "Where I Come From," "Little Man," "The Blues Man," "Little Bitty," and "Right on the Money." I listen to this every chance I get and do not regret buying it. It is one of my favorite CDs. Anyone who is an Alan Jackson fan will love this album. I recommend it. Of all the songs on it "World" is the most important I think.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME... review by a musician.......2006-10-21

I am not a die hard country fan in the sense that I listen to a variety of music. However, this album is exceptional and ranks among my favorites. Every song on here is a blockbuster and each of them has a great story behind it. The musicianship is excellent and the arrangements are not canned. Alan Jackson comes across as warm, sincere, engaging and definitely in the groove with his band. In my opinion, there is not one song on here that is a filler, although I do like a few songs less than others. I think this CD is the ONE to own, if you can resist buying more. However, Jackson is a real phenomenon and one of the top talents to come on to the country stage. He has the awards to prove it, but this album proves it with sound. Listen to the samples below and you will hear for yourself. His presence on this album comes across strong and through a good stereo even more so. I've listened to this over and over and have never grown tired of the music. Enjoy!

It's one of the cruel ironies of music today that Billy Joel has been relegated to a kind of adult-contemporary hell, where his legacy is measured by soft-rock staples such as "Just the Way You Are," "Piano Man," and "New York State of Mind." To be sure, well-crafted ballads are a part of his legacy, but they're hardly the whole story, as this collection of his early and mid-period hits amply demonstrates. From the unbridled biographical boasting of "The Entertainer" and the ambitious storytelling of "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant" to the careening abandon of "Only the Good Die Young" and the thoughtful social commentary of "Allentown," Joel was as complete an artist as the last three decades have produced. --Daniel Durchholz

4 out of 5 stars Billy Joel - A Decent Compilation.......2007-06-11

These days Billy Joel is often lumped in with Elton John as being remembered only for his top 40 radio hits and mushy ballads from the past several decades. Many people forget that like Elton, Joel put out some really strong albums in his early and mid-career. The guy was a songwriter's songwriter and not only could play a hell of a piano, but could be a very clever lyricist as well. Like Elton, Joel's output could be very inconsistent. For every "Goodnight Saigon" or "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" he wrote more throwaway stuff like "Uptown Girl" or "Tell Her About It". This two disc compilation captures all of his singles and some of his album tracks up to 1985. For the most part the material here is good, as you hear him move from an album oriented artist to a more commercial singles oriented one over the course of a little over a decade. The first disc is the best and starts out with some of the best cuts from his pre-superstar days. "Piano Man", "Captain Jack", "The Entertainer", and "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" are all great tracks and show a much different side of Joel than much of his later output. "The Stranger" is also included here. Although I was never crazy about the music or the chorus to this one, the lyrics are some of Joel's all time best. The rest of disc one starts dipping into Joel's big hit territory with the mush ballads "Just The Way You Are", and "She's Always A Woman" (written for his 1st wife who he would divorce not too many years later). The big hits "Only The Good Die Young" and "Moving Out" are also included. Disc two is not quite as strong. Three strong songs open the disc "My Life", "Big Shot" and "You May Be Right" all decent songs that got played to death on radio. Then it is back to mediocrity land with "It's Still Rock n Roll To Me" (I always think of the Weird Al Yankovic parody "It's Still Billy Joel To Me"), "Don't Ask Me Why", and "She's Got A Way". The best part of this disc is the three tracks from what is in my opinion Joel's strongest album "The Nylon Curtain". For this one Joel took a serious turn and came up with some really great songs. The 3 singles from the album are all represented here and they are all good ones. "Allentown" is a portrait of the Pennsylvania steel town after the industry pretty much pulled out. "Pressure" is another good one about the pressure of modern day life. "Goodnight Saigon" may be Joel's best all time work, and is a striking portrait of the Vietnam War. The last half of the CD covers Joel's Do Wop period with "Uptown Girl", "The Longest Time", and "Tell Her About It" (songs about his second wife whom he would eventually divorce). I am not much of a Do Wop fan so these don't do a lot for me. Two new (at the time) songs close the disc out and are pretty much both throw aways in my opinion. In the end this is a nice compilation of early Joel material. If you are looking for an overview this would be a good pick up.

5 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits.......2007-05-11

Many "Greatest Hits..." albums and sets are lacking or down right suck. This set is great. The songs you want to hear the way you expect to hear them.

1 out of 5 stars WARNING: Not the Complete Versions.......2007-03-31

I don't often get "greatest hits" collections, preferring instead to buy original albums, but in this case I did, because there are a handful of Billy Joel songs I wanted in my collection, but I didn't want to invest enough to purchase all of his albums. Unfortunately, they don't tell you that what you get here, at least in some instances, are the "single" versions of these songs, not the full-length versions from the original albums. Case in point: One of my favorite Billy Joel songs is "Just the Way You Are," but the version on this set cuts an entire verse. I haven't done comparisons on all of the other songs, but if they'd pull that on this song, they probably did so on others as well. It's incomprehensible to me; if someone wants Billy Joel songs, the odds are that they want the complete songs, not truncated re-edits.

5 out of 5 stars I love it.......2007-01-11

I was familiar with a few of Billy Joel's songs, but I thought my disc collection would not be complete if I did not own a good sample of his material.
This product proposes a chronological approach and that suited me just fine. The two discs are loaded with all the classics. All of them wonderfully digitalized. I was able to appreciate the enormous range of Billy Joel. Great songwriter, great singer, great piano player. Although I am drummer, I do understand why people like him, or Sting, or Stevie Wonder, or Elton John, are on top of the music industry food chain. It is truly difficult to be able to master so many areas of music. And I am not talking about the performing, the band leading chores, the musical direction, production, publicity, all these extra skills to own in order to arrive where they are.
Getting one hit out is already a rare feat, but 35 or 40 like the ones presented in this compilation, require a truly great mind (something many one hit wonders wish to have).
I love this compilation. A great buy!

An indispensable and definitive collection showcasing the passionate genius of the late rapper. The album's nonchronological sequence highlights the contradictory impulses that made Tupac's music so commanding; the 21 well-loved "hits," some slightly reedited for legal reasons, are accompanied by four previously unheard songs. Of the new material, the raw-sounding "God Bless the Dead" has been the subject of the most speculation, owing to its subject matter: a eulogizing of the late Notorious B.I.G.--a mysterious feat, since Tupac was killed six months before Biggie. And, making its first proper appearance on a Tupac album, the B-side "Hit 'Em Up" stands as the most intense outburst of pure venomous rage ever captured on tape. Whether he's waxing political, philosophical, or just plain paranoid, Tupac's empathetic, charismatic style remains unmatched. --Charley Gothic

i like this cd i;ve been wanting it for ever and finally i got it love it!

4 out of 5 stars good intro.......2007-04-24

if you don't have any 2pac albums, this is a perfect start. The songs are very close to what I would have picked for a greatest hits.
If you really like 2pac and rap, I would say skip this and buy each of his cd's instead. There still is some great material from him not on this CD

5 out of 5 stars Every track is excellent, but there are some Missing.......2007-04-10

Bad things don't exist on this album, every trakc is Pac at his finest. However there are so many more that should be on here, like Pain (which was omitted from Above The Rim and can't be found anywhere), F*ck The World, Pour Out A Little Liquor, and tons more!!! But yes the music is all amazing with my favourite tracks being
Disc 1:
1. Keep Ya Head Up - Incredible way to start the album
2. God Bless The Dead - Whether its about Notorious B.I.G. or not the song is amazing with a very creepy beat
3. Me Against The World - Very introspective
4. So Many Tears - Pac's darkest song ever
5. Hit Em Up - All my god!!! Calling this a classic diss to me is an understatement, even those other dudes ripped Bad Boy. By far the greatest diss song ever

Disc 2:
1. Brenda's Got A Baby - Was this a true story? on the music video that was on my resurrection DVD it said "Based on a true story" but someone else say it was made up. Well its a great song anyway
2. I Ain't Mad At Cha - Amazing Daz production and lyrics
3. Changes - Another very introspective track with a fantastic piano beat
4. Dear Mama - My absolute favourite Pac song ever!!! As you know, one of the reasons why many consider Pac the best rapper ever is because no one else could make a song like this. Look at 21 Questions by 50 Cent for example, he just sounds corny, this song is genious
5. Heartz Of Men - Some prime Pac lyricism with an excellent DJ Quik beat

Peace and Rest in peace to

Tupac Amaru Shakur: 1971-1996 (We all miss ya)

5 out of 5 stars 2 Pac Forever.......2007-04-04

This CD has to be a part of your collection if you dare to call yourself a Tupac fan. Tupac Shakur is not easily dismissed when it comes to music of the century. Yeah I said music, not just "rap" music. Music is felt and moves the listener, putting it in a category is not what qualifies it. Nothin but Cali Love for my homie !!!!!!! For all you haters, listen and learn how its done on the real.

5 out of 5 stars Pac's Life.......2007-02-07

Tupac Shakur 1971-1996 was one of the pioneers for West Coast Gangsta Rap in the 90's and despite being a fantastic MC he got just as much time in the spotlight for his lifestyle, cocky attitute, controvercial behavior, problems with the law and later his premature death. Many of his early songs were thugish gangsta anthems with explicit lyrics and at times it felt like Pac got trapped under that particular charachter, but that's only one side of the story. He portaited an ideal of a young stuggling black male with a troubled past that wouldn't get away from him. From time to time there were also songs that dealt with deeper subject like unwanted pregnancy of a young girl on "Brenda's Got a Baby" Friendship "If My Home Calls", Respect For Women on "Keep Ya Head Up" and premature deaths of homies on "Life Goes On". Tupac's versability and undpredictable behavior was fascinating and his sometimes very emotional sides aswell. He was far from the one-dimensional thug as the media wanted to make him. However, after two successful solo albums Tupac was sent to jail after sexual assault on a fan. While in Jail he started reflecting over his life and eventually his third album was penned, "Me Against the World" a very deep, serious and sincere album. Songs like, the title track, "If I Die 2 Nite", "Tempations", "So Many Tears" and ofcourse the touching tribute to his mother "Dear Mama". It debuted at #1 on the album charts making Tupac the first artist in Prison to top the charts. Perhaps it was also his greatest album too. Some fans however, didn't apreciate the changed Tupac and when his forth album "All Eyez On Me" was finally released it was a back 2 back album that mostly dealt with issues that made 2pac a star back in the day. It was a huge commercial success with hits like the westcoast anthem "California Love", "How Do You Want It" "I Ain't Mad At Cha" and "Heartz of Men". It was also the first ever double album in Hip Hop, making it an even bigger ambition. He also enjoyed great success with acting, other then starring against Janet Jackson in "Poetic Justice" in 1993, he was also making a few films later on. Sadly Tupac was shot to death in a drive by shooting in September 1996 and this ultimately led to an even bigger legacy of an Hip Hop soldier dying as an martyr, and rumours started popping up that he wasn't really dead, Considering there was and still is loads on unreleased material. And who killed Tupac, was it Suge Knight that was scared he would abandon his label? or was it a vendetta from East Coast Rappers?, or was it an old feud from somewhere else?. When Tupac died he was probably the greatest rapper alive, both enormously popular, controvercial and equally good writer and MC. He did use alot of samples to his music though and his lifestyle was a contributing factor to his legacy but he was a magnificient artist that sadly left us too soon. Like some people mentioned, this "Greeatest Hits" collection was released by Death Row and some minor hits weren't included, however you get most of the important hits and with 25 songs on this doubles album you shouldn't be dissapointed. Remember, 2pac was a very productive musician and released countless of singles and having them all included would make this album too long. Overall, Great Collection that captures his best moments. Rest In Peace.

5 out of 5 stars This is so great!.......2005-03-27

This music speaks to my inner being, my father was a Marine with the ETC, and it was not an easy time. Music like this helped him think about how the best things in life are two doors down on the left, just a shade away from peace. I love this music, track 13 speaks to me so much that I am not sure if I have the time to listen as much as I want to! Such great music!

5 out of 5 stars A Great Sousa Collection.......2004-12-15

These recordings seem to date from the 1960s and reflect a style of play that is impossible to find today. Some people might consider the sound to be too bright, the entrances too aggressive. But I think this is more authentic for Sousa than what one generally hears today. Sousa himself is known to have preferred "enthusiastic" entrances from his players, to have favored an "orchestral" sonority for his band and to have played his marches in strict tempo with no ritards or tempo changes. That is what you have on this disc, which features the Marine Band under Lt. Col. Albert Schoepper, who also conducts on Volume 3 of Altissimo's Sousa Original series.

This second collection of hits features a hardening of sorts for these laid back southern California rockers. The emphasis shifts away from the lazy, rolling rhythms of the first collection to the tighter and harder-edged material contained herein. Part of the blame may be the inclusion of James Gang veteran Joe Walsh who adds noticeable lead guitar work and galvanizes Don Henley and Glenn Frey into taking greater chances. "Hotel California" is the obvious potboiler, but "Heartache Tonight," "Life in the Fast Lane," and "The Long Run" are close runners-up. Timothy B. Schmit's vocals on "I Can't Tell You Why" return the band full circle to their mellow, country-rock roots. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars good album.......2007-07-05

"Seven Bridges Road" is my favorite Eagles song, yet I never had a copy of it. I had a few copies of the early Eagles albums on vinyl and later on cassette, but this was the first Eagles CD I added to my collection. I purchased this CD mainly because I couldn't find any other way to get a copy of "Seven Bridges Road". I listen to the whole album often. Turns out, I like the later day Eagles hits even more now than when they were on the radio all the time.

2 out of 5 stars Not so great !.......2007-04-18

I am not a fan of the band, I have listen to this cd a couple of time and I am not very pleased with it. There is just a couple of good tracks, not enough for me to keep this cd. I will use it as a gift for somebody who will listen to it, because I won't if I keep it.

5 out of 5 stars The title says it all!.......2006-12-18

As I said in my review for the first compilation, this album can afford to be out of print now that there's the surpassing THE VERY BEST OF THE EAGLES. There are ten chart-risers on this set(on hit parade between 1976 and '80) like the first set has. SEVEN BRIDGES ROAD is a live track derived from a 1980 concert(the band was still promoting THE LONG RUN). It could have used PLEASE COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS which many radio stations played every Christmas season since 1978. HOTEL CALIFORNIA tracks include the title track,NEW KID IN TOWN,LIFE IN THE FAST LANE and VICTIM OF LOVE. Tracks from TLR are the title track,I CAN'T TELL YOU WHY and HEARTACHE TONIGHT(co-written by Bob Seger,a longtime friend of the band's lead guitarist/vocalist Glenn Frey's and drummer/vocalist Don Henley's). This set was released in 1982 when Frey and Henley were just experiencing success as solo artists(the Eagles disbanded the previous year). Frey put out NO FUN ALOUD on the MCA label and Henley remained with Asylum putting out I CAN'T STAND STILL. Henley signed with Geffen thereafter and still records on that label today.

4 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits not as great as they could be..........2006-10-14

First off, I love the Eagles. If you're just getting into the Eagles, I think this and the first Greatest Hits are a good way to start. However, for people like myself, who know the band in and out, this isn't so 'great'. "After the Thrill is Gone" shouldn't be on here. The addition of "Those Shoes" would have been much better. I am also not fond of the inclusion of "Seven Bridges Road". I know they play the song at a lot of their shows, but it's not their song. I think "Wasted Time" would have been a great choice. Sadly though, the two Greatest Hits CDs have been rendered almost-useless by the 2003 The Very Best Of. This is still worth the money.

4 out of 5 stars The hits, take two........2005-10-10

Obviously this goes well with the previous hits collection, but Volume 2 stands on its own also. It's just another ten songs that everybody knows well. The biggie here of course is "Hotel California", but tracks like "Seven Bridges Road" and "Life In The Fast Lane" are classics too. Again, they're all great. I miss many songs from this era, specifically "In The City", but a ten track album was typical for the time this was released. Now that we have the 33 track "Very Best Of The Eagles" this isn't so essential, but it's still a sweet 45 minutes.

4 out of 5 stars Prince fan since before birth.......2007-01-15

I'm only 19 years old, but i've been a Prince fan since before I was born because my mom loves him so much. I really like this album, I just wish some more songs from Purple Rain were grouped into this CD.

5 out of 5 stars incredible compilation of hits.......2007-01-08

I've had this CD and Hits 2 for years. Since I grew up on prince's music as a kid, I felt that my CD collection was incomplete without this. All of his popular singles from the late 70's through the early 90's are on hits 1 & 2(I wish there was a seperate disc for the prince b-sides) and it's fun blasting them through the house while cleaning up or in the car. His grooves are just delicious and he does whatever he wants with that voice. In addition he's a strong songwriter and plays all the instruments, now what you tell ya mama bout that!!!

5 out of 5 stars The Memories Came Flooding Back.......2006-11-16

The music is still outstanding! It helps me to get up the hills during my walking routine.

5 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Prince Compilation.......2006-09-09

This second greatest hits cd includes all the major omissions from the first one and then some. All of the big Prince hits not on the previous cd are here (except for "Batdance", which isn't needed anyway), including "Controversy", "I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Delerious", "Little Red Corvette", "Raspberry Beret", "Kiss", "U Got The Look" and "Cream", as well as lesser known tracks such as "Dirty Mind", "Head" and "Gett Off". Once again, the sound quality is a bit flat but other than that this is an excellent compilation.

4 out of 5 stars Decent pop music.......2006-08-15

While I found "The Hits 1" to be fairly bland and tedious, "The Hits 2" is more palatable. The lyrics to "Controversy" set the stage to let you know this is no ordinary pop performer, traversing gender, race and decorum barriers over the course of the CD. "Am I black or white / Am I straight or gay?" indicate the man (?) has had some serious fun challenging precepts and provoking minds. Unfortunately, his music has not always been up to that task. "Controversy," "Head" and "Delirious" are memorable enough, but ostensible "hits," such as "Dirty Mind," "Do Me Baby" and "I Wanna Be Your Lover," are pedestrian at best. "If I Was Your Girlfriend" is a throw back to 1960's Motown and is rather good, though instead of Mary Wells or the Chiffons singing this love song to a would-be boyfriend, we get Prince in his usual falsetto. Bizarre. Anyway, highlights are too numerous to mention, though standouts for me are "Peach" and "Sexy M.F." This CD is not for children.
