Raul Malo's second covers album in two years skews slightly closer to the classic country that influenced his early career with the Mavericks. It is also likely to further alienate followers of his rootsy former band as he shifts into crooning, jazzy supper-club mode on these countrypolitan versions of classic and a few more recent C&W tracks. All twang is removed here, replaced with a horn section, a featured clarinet, and slick pop arrangements of standards associated with Elvis ("(Now and Then There's) A Fool Such as I"), Hank Williams ("Take These Chains from My Heart," "Cold, Cold Heart"), and Ray Price (Kris Kristofferson's often-interpreted "For the Good Times"). Malo sure has the pipes for these reworkings, but the disc is most convincing when the syrupy support takes a back seat to the relatively swinging horns on Dwight Yoakam's "It Only Hurts Me When I Cry" and "Pocket of a Clown." Regardless of your age, this is very definitely your parents' country, as Malo transforms himself into a younger, slightly hipper Dean Martin. You can practically taste the olive in his martini and touch his crisp tuxedo as he eases into this material with satiny-smooth vocals and classy delivery. But the line between seductive and snoozy is a thin one, and established fans might wonder where the old fire has gone as they navigate through this glossy set of easy-listening, after-hours mood music. --Hal Horowitz
Album Description
"There's a sophistication in country music, particularly in the songs that were written in the 1950s and'60s, that sometimes gets overlooked," says Malo. "I wanted to make an album that showed these songs can be treated as pop standards, because that's what they are, really. It's just that the artists who had success with them were country artists, although Tony Bennett had a hit with a Hank Williams song, so it isn't that unusual for the genres to cross each other."
In approaching this material, Malo and his band--Robert Chevrier (piano), Jay Weaver (bass), Tom Lewis (drums) and Jim Hoke (saxophone, clarinet and pedal steel)--drew their inspiration from the classic Nashville productions of the era. "This record definitely pays homage to the kind of country music Owen Bradley created," Malo acknowledges. "But the Ray Charles album Modern Sounds in Country & Western Music was the specific inspiration for this one. Ray proved that country music can be sophisticated and jazzy as well, and we wanted to do our take on it."
Customer Reviews:
Terrific!.......2007-07-31
Oh my gosh I just received this CD and I LOVE it. Raul's voice is so suited to this type of music. His voice is so rich and deep and the selections on this CD are just wonderful. It's very mellow and very easy to listen to. Buy it if you like this type of music. You won't find a better voice to sing it!
Kick back and enjoy!.......2007-07-30
What a voice - smooth as satin and rich as chocolate... Malo takes on some country classics here on an effort that could have been recorded by Patsy Cline not so many years ago. Anyone wanting to kick off your shoes, sip a glass of wine, and cuddle up with the one you love is guaranteed to be more than satisfied with this one! And as I said before, what a voice!
Unique Concept Gorgeously Executed.......2007-07-30
This CD continues to impress me, the more I listen to it. It is one thing to produce a concept album, but it is not so easy to have it come out all of a piece. Each song is totally unique but yet, they all seem to flow together. And then you have one of the most beautiful voices ever. You won't be disappointed. My personal favorite right now is "You Can Depend On Me".
Smooth and Sexy.......2007-07-30
Raul Malo has scored again with "After Hours". You don't have to be a country music fan to love this album. With his magnificent voice, Raul and his fantastic band comprised of Robert Chevier on piano, Jay Weaver on base guitar, and Tom Lewis on drums, have once again produced a record worth listening to. Following in the footsteps of the greats, Sinatra, Martin, Orbison, and Elvis, Raul and his band have created music that's smooth, sexy, and will definitely put your husband, wife, lover, partner in the mood. I've ordered multiple copies for all my friends. Don't miss this opportunity to sway with the master, Raul Malo.
WOW!!! Great CD!!!!.......2007-07-30
Raul's voice is amazing! The BEST in the music industry today!! If you haven't heard him you must check out this CD...Fantastic interpretations of these classic country standards. I especially love For the Good Times, Pocket of a Clown and Cold, Cold Heart but really my favorites change daily...they are all phenomenal!

Trio jazz as it should be.......2007-07-24
Let the professional reviewers analyze the album all they want, but this is trio jazz made up of three outstanding artists who created an album that any of us who like great music will love to listen to.
Great Jazz.......2007-06-27
Andre Previn, Joe Pass, & Ray Brown are jazz icons. In essence, this was a "jam session" with little or no rehearsal. Every track is a gem demonstrating the virtuosity of the trio. A definite keeper!
great jazz.......2006-07-11
"After Hours" with Andre Previn, Ray Brown and Joe Pass is one of the best jazz CD's I have heard in a long time. It is entirely standards and Previn is sensational on piano. It was recorded almost with little rehearsal and thus is very spontaneous. Of course Brown and Pass are equal to Previn.
Because Previn is so versatile he is often overlooked as a great jazz pianist. This CD disproves any questions one may have about his remarkable ability.
Abduction?.......2002-07-30
Imagine to be so unlucky to be abducted by hostile aliens. Well, here's the solution! I promise you can save your life giving them this treasure. They will be completly paralized by the incomparable beauty of this music, and you will surely find your way back home jumping down the starship. Only a question remains.... can you fly down an interstellar mother starship to reach the Earth? Just kidding!!
DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR, BUY THIS WORK OF ART !!
(By the way this cd is recorded with alien technology, the audio quality level will blow you away. Do THEY were present at the session? Maybe the recording studio was in the AREA 51 facility??!! OPS!!)
Remarkable combo Here! 5 Stars!.......2000-09-08
This CD is one of about 5 CDs that I listen to very frequently. Firstly, because I play jazz guitar and I love to her Pass play with absolute purity on each solo. Posthumously, Pass plays superbly and the CD is laid out very well. Starting with "There Will Never Be Another You" sure sets the stage.
The CD captures Previn and Pass [literally] playing off each other's solos and one quickly discerns that there was much fun going on when these three jazz masters recorded it! Per usual, Ray Brown's freshness shined through and his remarkable sense of snagging the beat most creatively, enabled them to play without a drummer.
Previn is known both as a classical player and jazz player. This CD evidences a man with almost surreal skill and aptitude while playing solos and too, playing sweet chordal progessions during Brown and Pass' solos!
Get this CD and listen to it a few times. You will have listened to it 300 times by year's end! Awesmome summarily sums it up! Buy it!
Respectfully, Brian G. Jett

Newly remixed for greatly improved sound, this intimate 1961 session with Sarah backed only by Mundell Lowe's guitar and George Duvivier's bass is one of the finest musical statements of her career.
Customer Reviews:
Fantastic record - Deserves more than 5 stars .......2007-07-14
This is a beautiful and intimate jazz record with Sarah Vaughan on vocals, Mundell Lowe on guitar, and George Duvivier on bass. The absolute taste and professionalism of those two "sidemen" allow Sarah to take these tunes wherever she wants to and that results in some of the most personal and arresting vocal performances I've ever heard from any jazz vocalist. The tasteful, unforced nature of this record takes you in and holds your attention until you begin to absorb the beauty and profundity of the performances. The Cole Porter tune, Everytime we say goodbye starts in a two beat feel and then opens up to straight four in the second chorus with beautiful chording by Lowe, rock solid walking bass by Duvivier and a soaring vocal performance by Vaughan with swinging phrasing that simply must be heard to be believed. Incredible. This record contains absolutely amazing musicianship from all three that should NOT be missed. Jazz guitar and bass players take note, it doesn't get any better than this; this is one of the best jazz accompaniment albums you will ever hear. Superb record.
Talk about atmosphere..........2007-03-31
...because not many records out there draw you in as deeply as this intoxicating recording. Tunes from Ellington, Porter, Rodgers/Hammerstein all figure prominently in the set list and the trio does each and every one justice. I suppose I could spend the next couple of paragraphs unleashing adjectives to describe the smoky after hours club where this performance might have been heard, but it would easier to say that, simply, this was a high point in Vaughn's career.
the entire album was intimate like a smooth cocktail in a real classic cocktail lounge........2007-03-20
This beautiful CD with Sarah and the musicians is haunting and intimate. Sarah, never faulters in any setting. So with this recording her voice is rich and just a joy to hear. When preparing cocktails for this particular night it was like being in a lush cocktail lounge in the 1950's. The beauty of this recording flashes you back to this time. i really thank you for this CD. I will always play it on any given night, with or without cocktails.
Sarah Vaughan, unadorned........2005-03-30
In this most unusual album, Sarah Vaughan conjures up images of after hours performances in smoke-filled clubs, where a few sad and lonely people nurse their drinks and listen to a solitary singer crooning softly. Here Vaughan sings "pure," without a big band behind her, without sharing the stage with a jazz superstar, and without any restrictions on her own interpretations. Accompanied only by a guitar (Mundell Lowe) and a bass (George Duvivier), both of which play quietly in the background, Vaughan turns in a remarkable performance, recording her most intimate album, one in which she makes the listener feel as if each song is sung for him/her and no one else.
Her famous versatility is on display here, but it is far more subtle than in most of her other albums, since nearly all these songs are slow and lacking in pyrotechnics. Changes in mood are controlled totally by Sarah and not by her accompanists. In "My Favorite Things," a surprising introduction to this album, she sounds like an ingénue, singing in a light soprano without any hint of the deeper register for which she is famous--until halfway through, when the beat picks up and the real Sarah starts to emerge. "Every Time We Say Goodbye," a melancholy song, has a swing beat, and "Easy to Love" is sung almost a capella, with her finger snapping audible in the background. In "Sophisticated Lady," slowly paced and contemplative, she sounds like the great jazz singer we know, but quieter than usual, and in "Great Day," the fastest song on the album, she dances across her notes, improvising as she goes.
The "real" Sarah Vaughan is totally in charge here, singing the mellowest, smoothest, and most intimate album ever, but it is a moody, blue Sarah in many songs--and the album is for quiet times, not celebrations. If you are a lover of Sarah Vaughan and ever fantasized about having her sing a private concert for you alone, this is your chance. Mary Whipple
A real caldron of emotions.......2003-08-09
I've never in my 26 years been an expert on jazz (although Ellington, Miles, Dinah, Ella and Billy Holiday aren't strangers to my cd player), for I come from a rock-ish, punk-ish, gothic-rock background. But tonight, when I first spun 'After Hours' I was reminded that jazz has so much to offer to anyone who doesn't mind music ravishing him violently and making his deep emotions and memories seep through and paint the room with vivid imagery of past-century romance. As I listened to each fold of Sarah's satin-n-silk voice, i shivered over and over again. Almost every song, yes. Jeez, i don't remember getting this many goosebumps since listening to Sade Adu in eighth grade after I broke up with my sweet Natasha :-{} Ms. Vaughn's lucent voice, contrasted with the smoky echo of a double bass and muted guitar cords, is so unpretentious, yet so sure of itself. So experienced. So adult. I don't know how old She was when She sang this, but She seems so profound. Things her voice does are amazing, but it doesn't sound like a studio-chiseled professional acrobatics. Not at all; maybe it has to do with the minimal (and perfect) arrangement, but you feel like you're left alone on a stage with her, face to face. She sounds so honest, so spontaneous, so innocent. Well, enough of it, the poignant 'Through The Years' has come on, and I'm shivering again. What, you haven't clicked "Add to Shopping Cart" yet ????

My First Nina Simone Experience.......2005-11-07
This was the first CD of Nina Simone's that I ever owned. Although I wouldn't exactly recommend it as a newcomer's first taste of Nina's work due to the lack of variety (all of the songs on this collection maintain that sultry ballad factor), this is my favorite of her records. There's no denying that Nina had it. She didn't garner the title of "High-Priestess of Soul" for nothing. In every single one of these songs, you can feel that Nina's unleashing every inch of her soul to get the job done. Highlights for me are "Wild is the Wind," "Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair," "Little Girl Blue," and "End of the Line." Take this beautiful line from "Wild is the Wind":
"You touch me
I hear the sound of mandolins
You kiss me
With your kiss my life begins
You're spring to me
All things to me..."
I remember the first time I heard that, being speechless. Who would have thought that something so simple could mean so much? But of course, anytime Nina's behind the microphone, it's easy to be overwhelmed.
Buy this record. Whenever you've had a long day and maybe just want to sit back and enjoy what's left of the night, toss this CD in your player and let Nina melt your troubles away. Only a beautiful woman could have created such beautiful art.
It's 3 AM and Nina calls to the lonely or love-lorn. .......2004-07-26
This CD displays Nina Simone in an intentionally un-eclectic light, showcasing her ballad work. While I would recommend the PolyGram Very best of to the uninitiated, I actually prefer this album because it only includes one or two of her most popular tracks. Naturally, anyone holding a PhD in voice is going to be incredible, but this is Nina Simone. There is a tenderness on this disc that I have only fleetingly encountered elsewhere. Nina's strengths are myriad, but her balladry cuts to the quick, and this collection remains unparalelled. She has been many things, from a political activist to a showtune diva, but it's in her quieter moments that you really feel the texture and implications of the voice that has never been equaled or surpassed. It's too bad taht her best-of collections are so uniform. Not to say that I don't like her when she's rolling, but it's this CD's gentle rock that will entrance. Needless to say, I could not recommend this disc more, especially for the already established fanbase.
Nina the Torch Chanteuse--Highly Recommended.......2000-03-10
Nina's voice is like no other vocalist--the emotional intensity she brings to her covers and originals are non-pareleil. This "After Hours" CD (formerly on Philips, now Verve) is probably the best one that shows Nina in a "torch-chanteuse" mode. It is my co-favorite alongside the Jazz Masters on Verve. Nina's voice was at a creative peak. Each song stands out from the next. One could play this CD 1,000 times and never get tired. Each time the listener discovers new depth and meaning in Nina's singing. I prefer Nina during this mid-60's period to her later stint at RCA when she became too blues-oriented and political.
The Tender Heartache.......2000-02-27
Dim the lights and feel the music wash over you - that voice, so rich and soulful. Feel your soul spill out into the song's embrace.
From "Nobody" to "Little Girl Blue", Nina Simone is one of those rare singers who can take a song and BECOME it. Her version of "Porgy" is, by far, the best I've heard (and I'm a HUGE Billie Holiday fan).
So.. As the rain falls outside and the longing in your heart begins to swell, play this CD and let this amazing voice keep you company.
Excellent & Wrenching.......1999-11-25
I have many Nina Simone records, but I always come back to her ballads on rainy days. This record, in particular, is a crusher. Good for anyone unfamiliar, but curious, about Nina as well as any loyal fan. Her rendition of Billie Holiday's "Don't Explain" will slay all who here it with its pure, pure sadness. "The Other Woman" and "Lilac Wine" are also solid and lovely.

Great resource for finding hard to locate songs.......2004-02-20
I am a fan of this series as it often is the only place to find old school classics. Songs that were popular back in the day, but by either one-hit-wonders, or artists with out of print recordings. This CD is the only place I could find "Firestarter" by Tease, and "Sugar Free" by Juicy. I also enjoyed "Who Do You Love" by Bernard Wright and "Come into My Life" by Joyce Sims. This collection is from a day when slow jams were more than just the whining you hear on the radio today. There was rhythm, there was funk, there was soul.
very smooth!!!!.......2003-07-31
A very nice selcetion of songs that are nice there is a song by Eugene Wilde who was popular in the 80's but he didn't get a lot of exposure who is a good singer he has a song on here called don't say no tonight and firestarter, I'm curious, Silver Shadow, Slow down and many other great songs and I would recommend anyone to buy this album I am almost finish with completing the whole collection of smooth grooves but this is a nice cd to add to your romance cds!!!
A fine anthology of the songs that helped define the "Quiet Storm" sound........2003-06-11
Most of the songs included on this great compilation deservedly became Quiet Storm classics. "Firestarter" (Tease), "Gotta Get You Home Tonight" (Eugene Wilde), "Silver Shadow" (Atlantic Starr), "Come Into My Life" (Joyce Sims) and "Sugar Free" (Juicy) still sound great after all these years. I did NOT give these otherwise-superb CD a 5-star rating because the songs by Oddysey and Reel To Real do not belong on a Quiet Storm-oriented anthology. If you are a fan of 1980s R&B, however, you shouldn't pass this CD up. I also like the front and back inserts' photos also.
Essential Smooth Grooves.......2003-03-27
This is without doubt one of the finest in the Smooth Grooves series. A good mix of laid back soul (Juicy, Tease, Keni Burke) and smooth dancers (Bernard Wright, Odyssey, Atlantic Starr). Lots of the tracks here have had a hammering on my soul radio show, and feedback has been excellent. Do yourselves a favour, if you've not purchased this yet, don't waste time putting it on your wants list, get it now.

Another good album by a great singer and writer........2007-03-15
I have all three of his albums and this one I confider to be more jazzy and romantic. I still cannot believe that Rahsaan is not known worldwide because he has great singing and song writing skills that is being ignored. I wish that a major record company will take notice and sign him up. I love to hear him sing and always will. Some of the other male artists out there, don't have half the talent he has and they are making big bucks and well known. Rahsaan's music is real music that I can listen to all day. I am spreading the word about this Artist.
SO HOT!!!.......2007-02-10
Literally, I listen to all three of Rahsaan's CD daily while at work. I remember watching him on 'Kids Incorporated' some years ago in the '80's. He was an proformer then, not only can he sing his is a excellent songwriter as well. We have been listening to his work for years but did not know it, Rahsaan I love your work. I can't wait for the next CD, I know it will be just as HOT as 'After Hours'.

This album features stellar vocals, beautiful lyrics and exceptional overall production so why has the mainstream not heard of this artist? I agree with a previous reviewer's comment that there seems to be a conspiracy to silence the truly talented neo-soulsters but Rahsaan Patterson just keeps rolling out terrific albums.
As I listen to this disc again & again, I feel sad that another breakthrough talent, John Legend has received all kinds of accolades and press while Rahsaan is known largely within the wide circle of fans who know how truly magnificent & consistently excellent his music is. I'm not knocking John Legend but it's sad to think that because of whose "crew" one hangs with an automatic pass is given while other equally talented musician/songwriter/singers in r&b are ignored by the mainstream.
I especially loved the tracks Rahsaan worked on with Van Hunt. These two collaborate so well & the sound they create is funky, soulful & original which makes them stand out a little more from the other tracks.
My favorites are: SEPARATE, APRIL'S KISS (magnificent love song), THE ONE FOR ME, BURNIN', SOMETIMES (YOU GOTTA LET GO), THE BEST, SO HOT & DON'T RUN SO FAST.
Rahsaan makes it hard to recommend which disc to get first for the uninitiated but in my opinion, LOVE IN STEREO was his best work followed very closely by this one then his debut. Frankly you can't go wrong by picking any one of his 3 releases first since they're all equally magnificent (hate to keep using this word but it fits this artist).

Too Quiet, Even for a Dentist.......2007-06-12
I'm a smooth jazz fan, and love the formula over the past decade or so--the sounds of a sweet sax to the beat of an old R&B song. More recent Brian Culbertson CD's follow this formula, but this CD is so caught up in the "Quiet Storm" motif that I longed for the "storm"--this CD is all about the "quiet."
First of all, there is not a single song with a discernable beat.
Second, many of the songs are so self absorbed they have "introductions" as a prelude to the song. Dude, just play the song, I'm not impressed by titles and labels.
I would pass on this CD. Brian Culbertson has some excellent CD's and tracks--but this isn't one of them. Unless of course you are a dentist--you might find the CD useful.
After All That.......2007-01-16
The Freshest sound with all of bells and whistle sounding off...GRAMMY! GRAMMY.
Just listening to this cd, makes me appreciate his AWESOME range which equates to smooth listening.
All of Brian Culbertson works.......2002-11-24
The fist CD I bought by Brian Culbertson was "something bout love". I liked that CD so well,as well as his style,I went on the internet a looked all his previous works all bought all of them. From then on you may want to call me a "Died in the wool" Brian Culbertson fan. He is my #1 artist. My list goes like this: 1.Brian Culbertson 2.Rick Braun 3.Boney James 4.Paul Hardcastle 5.Norman Brown 6.Kirk Whalum 7.Dave Koz 8.Richard Elliot 9.Fourplay 10.Kenny G
Outcast Culbertson.......2002-03-15
After Hours is atypical Culbertson. It's also his best album. It's high energy pure smooth jazz. The rest of his music, with the exception of Secrets, is low energy ultra mellow elevator music. In Secrets, a very nice album, one hears a bridge between After Hours and the rest of his music. If you are a dead serious smooth jazz fan, forget about Culbertson, except for his must have, fundamentalist, smooth jazz albums After Hours and Secrets. In fact, After Hours is considered by me to be a Core Album (an album that is typical smooth jazz and in an elite group that comprises the very best of smooth jazz).
After Hours.......2001-12-24
Having first listened to Nice & Slow, I was so impressed and excited to find My kind of music. Then I was able to listen to all Brian's music. After Hours is truly amazing. I would promote B.C's music anywhere. I will contact Atlanta's Newest Smooth Jazz Radio Station 107.5 fm It is most difficult to isolate any of Brian's work. Keep up the great work!

Customer Reviews:
"I Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry" .......2007-01-17
"After Hours" is one of my very favorites John Pizzarelli CDs from my collection. It features himself on vocals and electric guitar, his brother Martin on bass and Ray Kennedy on piano, plus his Dad Bucky Pizzarelli on acoustic rhythm guitar, Harry Allen on tenor sax, Randy Sandke on trumpet and Joe Cocuzzo on drums. Its interpretations and arrangements are so welcoming. After one listen your ears will be requesting for one more listen, then two more! That's how good this album is.
You'll enjoy listening to these beautiful time-tested standards penned by the greatest songwriters and composers of all-time. Make it a very enjoyable listening experience as he sings two of Gershwins' classics "They Can't Take That Away From Me," and "But Not For Me," Rodgers & Hammerstein's "It Might As Well Be Spring," Gordon & Goulding "Mam'selle," Hillard & Mann's "In The Wee Small Hours," Caesar, Gray & Youmans' "Sometimes I'm Happy" and Kahn, Malneck & Signorelli's "I'll Never Be The Same."
John Pizzarelli is not only one of the greatest interpreters of the popular standards and a guitar master who plays with sensitivity and style, but also a composer in his own right for two of the tracks here are his very own original compositions "Be My Baby Tonight" and "Lullaby."
My very highlight from this collection is a classic from Sammy Cahn's creative songwriter's mind with its beautiful melody composed by Jule Styne "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry." Sammy Cahn was an eloquently brilliant lyricist who had a way with words and all his works are so remarkable. John Pizzarelli's heartfelt reading of this achingly beautiful song is one of the best interpretations ever recorded. It starts with a charming piano intro by Ray Kennedy then bridges and closes with the sparkling voice of John Pizzarelli's guitar, and of course in between, his soft and mellow vocals.
The torch I carry is handsome
It's worth its heartache in ransom
And when the twilight steals
I know how the lady in the harbor feels . . .
When I want rain
I get sunny weather
I'm just as blue as the sky
Since love is gone
Can't pull myself together
Guess I'll hang my tears out to dry
Friends ask me out
I tell them "I'm busy"
Must get a new alibi
I stay at home and asked myself
"Where is he?"
Guess I'll hang my tears out to dry
Dry little teardrops
My little teardrops
Hanging on a string of dreams
Fly little memories
My little memories
Remind him of our crazy schemes
Somebody said . . .
"Just forget about him"
I gave that treatment a try
Strangely enough
I got along without him
Then one day he passed me right by . . .
Oh well, I guess I'll hang my tears out to dry.
A very lovely listening affair.
Not a guitar CD.......2006-10-30
If you are looking for guitar virtuosity then this is NOT the CD to buy. John Pizzarelli, unlike his father, Bucky, fashions himself a vocalist. He has a light nasal voice with limited range which is pleasant enough but unexceptional. The background and arrangements are good and the selections are, for the most part, familiar but this is John Pizzarelli as a singer not a guitarist.
Close up and intimate........2005-05-10
I've heard most of these songs many times, but not the way John Pizzarelli does them. He's not a great singer, but what style! After listening to these songs, you'll find yourself humming or singing them over and over. The music is very close up and intimate. It's among my collection of favorites.
Fantastic.......2004-05-01
From the first track (Coquette) to the last (Stringbean) this is one great performance. The mix of songs is first rate and the sound is excellent. I now have 6 cds by John and I would have to rate this as the best. So if you have never listened to his music, this would be a great CD to purchase and become aquainted with this very talented performer.
Superb CD.......2002-03-29
This is one the best Cds I own so far. All the songs are delightful to listen to!

Customer Reviews:
This album has it all!.......1998-12-30
There have been many wonderful jazz concerts recorded at Carnegie Hall. My collection is full of them -- Benny Goodman, Billie Holliday with Count Basie and Sarah Vaughan, Duke Ellington, Chick Corea, Woody Herman, Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker.....to name a few.
This album goes right up near the top. Period. It's a splendid mix of solos, vocals, a big band led by Jon Faddis, and more than a few good licks by jazz-buff and empresario Clint Eastwood. There's a freshness and enjoyment that is enhanced by fine sound and presence.
New York seems to be the center of a jazz renaissance. Some of it is retrospective and in that regard maybe this album is a bit neo-classical in form. But if like me, you want to introduce jazz to friends or take heart in some creative drive that that pumps much-needed life into the genre, run out and buy this.
Light your fireplace and pour a good brandy.......1998-11-19
This is by far one of the greatest jazz CD's I have ever purchased. It was recommended to me by a good friend and, of course, with Clint's name all over it, I ran out to buy it. Since then, I have given it as a gift to over a dozen people. This CD has crisp, Autumn days and steamy Summer nights written all over it. You'll want to chill out with a good wine while listening to this one . . . you may find yourself yearning for that special someone who is out there somewhere . . . good jazz can do that to you.
Enjoy
A "must have" for serious fans of jazz........1998-09-08
A fantastic recording by some of the great contemporary jazz musicians......saw their performance at Carnegie Hall and had to have this CD. If you like great jazz you will want this in your collection.

Absolutely perfect.......2003-02-04
This is a wonderful collection of some of the most beautiful, relaxing classical music composed by the greatest artists of our history. My personal favorites, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, and Gabriel Faure, are well represented here. The selections are made based on their ability to relax, and transport you to another place. They certainly succeed. In these troubled and stressful times, we need to return to another period, to music that had the ability to transform and to heal. I feel that once this CD is playing, I don't need anything else to relax me. This is beautiful, timeless music, that will never go stale.
A Wonderful Relaxing CD!.......2001-01-04
This CD had much more than I bargained for when I bought it. I recognized many of the pieces, and was quite happy with my purchase. This CD does not lie. It is very soothing and is wonderful to listen to after hours.
