Where
Off the Wall was pretty much straight good times,
Thriller introduced dread into Michael Jackson's solo work. By 1995's
HIStory, this element curdled into overwhelming self-regard and out-of-touchness, but here it's bracing. While
Thriller offers its share of cute ("The Girl Is Mine," a duet with Paul McCartney that was the album's first single; "P.Y.T."), the most memorable cuts remain "Billie Jean," "Beat It," and "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'," all of which meld musical imagination and worried-mind lyrics.
There's also the title track, which takes a cue from Parliament's concept pieces in employing Vincent Price to warn that nonfunky forces will "terrorize y'all's neighborhood." Thriller, of course, continues to battle with the Eagles' first greatest-hits package for the title of biggest-selling U.S. long-player ever. Bonus material on this edition includes "Someone in the Dark," from Jackson's E.T. children's album, and a Quincy Jones interview in which the producer cites "My Sharona" as the inspiration for "Beat It"--and, even better, the real-life Billie Jean's claim that Michael was "the father of one of her twins." --Rickey Wright

Someone once told me this is the biggest selling album ever. The song "Thriller" should have ended side 2.
Real Music.......2007-06-16
This isnt just one of the best selling albums ever for nothing. Thriller is just an awesome album. This is what Pop music is really meant to be. The lyrics actually have a true meaning behind them and the beats are really great. The album has aged pretty well too. The voice of Jackson will always be remembered. He is a very talented man and this is his masterpiece. Its sad that most Pop music isnt this good anymore.
25 years later, Thriller remains the album to beat!.......2007-04-26
I was already a fan of Mike and the Jacksons, But when Motown 25 came on in 83, this guy set the standard for what music and performance could be and where it could go. Till this day in my lifetime that one performance at Motown 25 is the single most perfect performance I've ever seen. I remember the next day at school and the next month after that performance we had all kind of talent shows where all of the kids were trying to out moonwalk each other. The saddest and funniest part was watching the less fortunate kids who could not afford the Michael gear wearing tube socks with dress shoes and kids making home made glitter and rhinestone gloves. Hilarious. As an adult, I refuse to let the media and even Michael himself ruin my childhood memories of this untouchable piece of music.
25 years later Thriller remains the album to beat!
Thriller Chiller.......2007-04-11
Everyone in the world owned a vinyl copy of this album once it hit big. At the time I thought it was a tad over rated and of course you couldn't escape MJ or his videos and Thriller is the opitime of how music was forever changed by MTV - not only did his videos sell the album, they were able to launch a total of 7 singles off of one 9 song album, unheard of at the time. When someone becomes huge and overplayed, I usually lose interest quite fast and instead of the popular songs find myself going towards the lesser known tracks. At the time Thriller broke my favorite song was actually "Wanna Be Startin' Something" but now listening to the song, the lyrics are quite awful but the beat, oh yes that beat is still golden. My copy of Thriller is the awesome remastered special additon with bonus cuts and audio about the songs by producers and arranagers, so it's really quite interesting. But it all boils down to the music itself and I must admit twenty some odd years later I am impressed with the album. I love the singles with equal passion - "Beat It", "Billie Jean", "Human Nature" (my current fav), "PYT", "The Girl Is Mine" with Paul McCartney(which is a song I used to loathe but now isn't quite as bad - though I still cringe when they talk to each other at the end, "oh paul I told you, I'm a lover not a fighter" umm okay Mikey) and the title track which you would think sounds like a dated piece of cheese but amazingly enough it's a very entertaining song. There's still the question as to why this of all the albums released at the time is the best selling album (or close to the best selling album) of all time, but it is a fun piece of music though it's a tad sad to think about what Mr. Jackson has done to himself in recent years. You just have to forget all that and look at the cover of what he used to be and hear the songs. Though once again I question who this damn Billie Jean is, if you recall she shows up in "Wanna Be..." as well. He really had it in for this girl. For the record, I always knew he wasn't the father of her baby, I had no doubt. In fact I have severe doubts he's the father of the kids he dangles off of balconies as well.
Is it just me?.......2007-03-16
Is it just me, or is anyone else somewhat uncomfortable with rewarding and lauding an alleged child-molester. Hey Michael, why don't you move to Southeast Asia or something? Maybe your money will buy you "freedom of action" there.

Michael Jackson's Thriller is the bestselling album of all time, with 45 million worldwide sales powered by seven Top 10 U.S. singles and eight Grammy Awards. The 1982 album was also a success from which the pop superstar never really recovered--subsequent albums seemed to have no other goal than to beat the records set by Thriller. The highly-polished sound of Quincy Jones's production sounds almost organic compared to Jackson's more recent work, and in the same regard, Thriller was significantly slicker than its predecessor, Off the Wall. Both albums established a Jackson style that aimed for the dance floor with songs built on a state-of-the-art bed of percussion and keyboards. Elements of milestone Thriller tracks like "Billie Jean" (arguably Jackson's best-ever performance) and "Beat It" (with its hard-rock solo by guitarist Eddie Van Halen) influenced not just Jackson's records, but those of the entire dance-pop world. On the song "Thriller," Jackson indulged his taste for the juvenile and invited Vincent Price to rap in a really scary voice. With Thriller the album, Jackson created a different kind of monster--a hit album of such magnitude that it would have an irrevocable impact not just on the singer's art, but on his altogether kooky life. --John Milward

5 stars for the music, no star for Audio (2 channel-only, despite it being a SACD).......2007-07-11
Without a doubt, this is the best album Michael Jackson has made with every song on it a Top-10 song. I have the record (LP), the CD, and hoped getting a 5-channel sound with this SACD. Disappointingly enough, this SACD comes with 2-channel sound only, which is definitely not better than the regular CD. Five stars for the music, zero stars for audio quality.
Thriller was a thriller.......2007-07-09
There's a reason this album sold a bazillion copies. It's really great dance/pop music from a guy who, despite his weirdness, was a really great entertainer and could sing. This record is an established piece of early 80s culture; the songs on it are a reminder to a lot of us of our junior high days. The songs here make you wanna dance. A great album from the days when MJ was a superstar entertainer, not a circus freak for tabloid fodder.
How can you not give this a 5?.......2007-07-04
I had to check out who in his right mind gave this a 1. It was obvious that one guy alone, who never liked MJ, gave Thriller a poor rating four times using the term "hype" to clearly identify himself. The others who gave 1s were annoyed with the sound quality of the CD. Fact is, few albums can top this off: Dark Side of the Moon comes to mind, that's how perfect Thriller is. MJ may be a weirdo, but he sure made history here. I recently heard "The Lady in My Life" on the radio. I completely froze from its beauty.
not multi-channel audio.......2007-05-12
This is not a review of the music itself, but just a comment on the SACD version of the album. I had this album on analog cassette tape way back when, and always wanted a CD version. When I saw that there was now an SACD encoded version, I immediated added it to my cart, thinking that it may have been re-mixed as multi-channel audio (like Dark Side of the Moon and Brothers in Arms had been). I guess I should have done my homework, since it wasn't. This album is in SACD format, but only as 2-channel stereo. I probably shouldn't have paid extra money to get this.

Best cast EVER!.......2007-05-15
Ok, ok. So Lisa/Emma (whichever you prefer) wasn't my favorite but tolerable. This dual-disc soundtrack launched my near obsession for the musical. Hmmm...bought 3 different soundtrack versions, bought 2nd row tickets to the musical live (WONDERFUL, Sharon Brown almost held a candle to the original Eder), bought the musical score, bought the Hasselhoff movie version (it COULD have been worse!), bought several karaoke versions, used to skip lunch in high school to rehearse the songs w/my then-boyfriend. Yeah, slight obsession. I still love it. This Jekyll/Hyde is the best I've heard yet. I keep wondering if there would be one to surpass his brilliance with each show & soundtrack that comes out and haven't heard one yet!
ANTHONY WARLOW--THE BEST JEKYLL & HYDE EVER!.......2006-12-02
I learned about Anthony Warlow from my investigation and web searches on another popular Australian musical theatre star--Philip Quast. Philip played Javert in the Tenth Anniversary Dream Cast of Les Miserables on PBS. Anthony was the original Enjolras I believe, in the London Cast. Philip and Anthony are friends and have even done shows together, including the Australian production of The Secret Garden, where Anthony had the lead role. Their rendition of "Lily's Eyes" will send chills down your spine--both exceptional actors and singers. Philip later played the lead role himself in the London cast of The Secret Garden.
Anthony Warlow has one of the most exceptional singing voices I have ever heard, and his rendition in this recording is the best anywhere. People have wondered why he did not do this role on the stage, and I can only guess it is because he is a cancer survivor and the role would be too much for him to take physically. You can hear the intensity just in his vocals on this recording, and how much energy it takes. It is exhausting just to listen to him--so can you imagine the physical and emotional intensity it would take to do eight shows a week?
Although David Hasselhorf did a decent job acting in the Jekyll & Hyde DVD, his singing is very poor and it is obvious he has never had any classical training. He has a misplaced vibrato and really struggles with "This is the Moment", contorting his body which restricted his breathing and caused him to struggle even more vocally. He also has a terrible British Accent.
Anthony Warlow on the other hand, can sing everything from pop to opera. Many of his recordings are available online. He has also played the Phantom in The Phantom of the Opera in either Australia or England, and how I wish I could hear that recording, although there is not an original cast recording made. If you would like to hear him sing songs from Phantom, however, you can get a CD entitled The Main Event with him, Olivia Newton-John, and John Farnham, who is also absolutely incredible. I bought this CD and was blown away. Anthony's rendition of Phantom tunes is absolutely mind boggling.
I also learned Anthony played the lead role of Professor Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, opposite a lovely actress (british, I believe) named Marina Pryor, who also played opposite him in The Secret Garden. What talent!
So do a web search on this talented individual and get some of his CDs--he is a delight!
Why can't they have a case like this on stage production ?.......2006-11-11
It's a shame such a wonderful musical didn't make a good stage production.
OK, so I have heard couple actors that played Jekyll had made nomination to Tony's, but how come this musical is not as popular as The Phantom of the Opera ? Perhaps the closest attempt to make a equivalent version of movie is Julie Robert's "Mary Reilly" in 1996, which, of course, no music, but tell a wonderful story.
Again, let's focus back to the "music" portion. The concept cast has two leading ladies to play Lucy and Lisa, which is far better than the previous 1990 release case. It's just not quite right, something buggy, to have the same lady sing both Lucy and Lisa. This complete soundtrack, listen from the beginning to the end, you will feel the difference of personality via voice and interpretation between two leading ladies, that makes the story telling.
Let's not forget the leading "Jekyll / Hyde". Gosh, how come this guy is not famous here in the States ? You thought you are listening to 2 difference persons, it's the same guy. Come on, how many singers out there can sing in front of live audiance day in day out non-stop for 3 hours plus "acting" ? You got to respect for their talent and profession disciplines.
I have "wasted" 3 sets of this soundtracks because they got worn out and I just have to have the replacements. I love every piece of it, particularly "Letting Go", "It's a dangerous game", "A New Life" and "Take me as I am" the most. Of course, the "Once upon a time" is something you can't miss. You will feel the "vibe" without doubt and get into the story, big time.
Anothe recommendation, which I am a bit sad they took it out of this release is the "Till you came into my life". I love this one, but only available in the 1990 Original Highlight. It's something quite sweet, and poweful.
The later production, well, worth owning, but not exactly worth getting a replacement once its worn out.
Enjoy the story, and embrace that lttle spilt personalities inside.
Act I of this CD is superb.......2006-08-20
Act I has great drama and great music.
For example:
"I need to know" is a great song about passion for knowledge and desire to improve the human condition, which is troubled by our dual desires for good and evil (or misbehavior, if you prefer). The tune simply soars!
"Facade/Bitch, bitch, bitch" is a fabulous song about snobbery, social class, people trying to impress other people, and people badmouthing other people.
"Board of Governors" is about the meeting of the Board of Governors of the hospital that discusses and turns down Dr. Jekyll's request for support for his project. They accuse him of playing God (with some justification, though the accusation is very mean-spirited).
"Bring on the men," though not highly original in theme, is such a fabulous tune and sung so superbly that I very much enjoy the song despite the lyrics.
This production has not just one, but two love interests, however, that seem to dominate the second Act II.
For me, I'll listen to Act I again and again and again. It has the richness of story, lyric, and tune that stands up to repeated listening.
In sum, Act I is among the best Broadway has to offer, if you like drama and grand tunes.
What an experience.......2006-03-27
My sister and I are two huge musical fans. We love music that tells stories and we grew up with musicals like the Phantom of the Opera and Dance of the Vampire as our good night stories.
When Jekyll and Hyde was staged in Vienna we adored it so much that we watched it three times in a row. Now almost four years later my twinsister decided to ship the english version from the USA to Austria and I tell you when I first listened to it I was simply carried away by my emotions. What magnificent and melodious voices some people have. It is just amazing. If I could afford it I would invite the whole essemble into my living room for a private performance. Anthony Warlow and Linda Eder as well as everyone else in the production did a really great job.

THE JAPANESE RELEASES HAVE BETTER AUDIO MASTERING.......2007-02-15
In 2006, the first five CB titles were issued in Japan in LP-replica mini-sleeve CD format on the Bomba label:
COLD BLOOD - BOMBA BOM24086
SISYPHUS - BOMBA BOM24087
FIRST TASTE OF SIN - BOMBA BOM24088
THRILLER - BOMBA BOM24091
LYDIA - BOMBA BOM24092
The audio mastering on those discs are all superior to their Collectables/domestic counterparts.
If you really love these CB albums, get the Japanese releases before they are sold out, as all mini-sleeve CD's are limited edition.
They are certainly more expensive than the domestic CB titles, but are definitely worth the price.
Link to the Japanese remaster.
Cold Blood's "Coldest".......2006-08-17
This is another one of my all-time favorites from the great horn-band era that was initiated by the success of the rock/jazz fusion group "Dreams", as well as Blood, Sweat & Tears and of course, Chicago. Along with Tower of Power, Cold Blood blasted out of the Northern bay area of California (their 1969 debut actually came out on Bill Graham's San Francisco label before TOP's first disc)with female vocalist Lydia Pense fronting a sometimes changing lineup that retained its' core membership throughout most of their releases for a bit less than a decade. This is their most sought - after album, now finally available in the U.S. on compact disc (a Japanese import CD pressing was available on a limited basis but was extremely difficult to obtain - I've never even seen a copy of it). And at one point, you couldn't even find much by them, except in cut-out bins; or purchasing from second-hand dealers(who knew the market and worked it)at some fairly steep prices. Now, thanks to Rhino; with their classic series of top - quality reissues; you can own a clean-sounding copy of this original Reprise release. Like most fans of the band, I've purchased the majority of their works on vinyl(I went thru two copies of this one..)! Now you can get almost everything in their catalog on CD; with the exception of their 1976 release on ABC(absorbed by the merger with MCA/Universal); which also was my only opportunity to catch the band 'live', for two "killer" shows in San Diego! Since most of the major labels are now mining the vaults for older things to release, though; that one might eventually become available too. But for now, get the best of their San Francisco and Warner/Reprise years on CD(especially this) and you'll have the really happenin' stuff...!
THRILLER IS EVEN BETTER ON LP!!!!!!.......2006-06-09
THIS IS THE BEST EVER ALBUM EVER FROM THE BAND. I OWN MINT COPIES OF ALL THEIR ORIGINAL LP'S. THIS ONE BLOWS AWAY ALL CD VERSIONS.ITS QUIET AND VERY DYNAMIC WHEN PLAYED ON A QUALITY TURNTABLE MUSIC SYSTEM....DO YOURSELF A FAVOR. BUY A MUSIC HALL OR PROJECT BRAND TURNTABLE FOR ABOUT $300.00 OR SO AND SEEK OUT USED QUALITY LP'S FROM THE NET OR IF YOUR LUCKY TO FIND A LOCAL LP SHOP THAT SHARES YOU PASSION FOR GREAT SOUND....YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY. IF YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THE LP THING, THEN BUY THE CD'S. NO OTHER JAZZ/BLUES/SOUL MUSIC BY ANYONE ELSE CAN TOUCH LYDIA AND COLD BLOOD NOW OR EVER!!!!!!
The Female Joe Cocker.......2006-02-23
Her gyrations on stage in the 70's got her this nic. She is still the greatest white R&B singer to ever grace the stage. She blew Janis out of the water with plain and simple technique and I cringe when that comparison is made. Janis had a different style and was loved for her screaming triads for the most part. With out a doubt the best album as a whole of the 5 I know of. Why? Because The Pointer Sisters sang back up for her on this album and the majority of the material is really GOOD. Her versions of Kissin My Love and Live Your Dreams are just killer. Shes my favorite of all time...beyond Aretha; all the new singers of today....that she towers over even today!! My singin hero. I am her hugest fan from oregon. I will say, her new version of Down to The Bone pales in comparison to the original version.
Wow! What took so long?!?!.......2006-01-07
It took me less than five seconds to get my credit card out and order this classic. I have loved this album since its debut over three decades ago. This brings me back to their fantastic show in the early 70's at the Shaboo Inn in Willimantic, CT -- just breathtaking.
I really can't imagine what took so long, but thank you anyway to the remastering gods!!

Music to make you shiver.......2001-06-24
Opening with the intense bass and drum of "Cat O Nine Tails", you quickly realize you are dealing with a collection that beckons full attention. The music here runs the gamut of emotions like all of Morricones best. Each piece here merits investigation. Every song is like a microcosm of sounds and melodies. They also have nice humor; such as the Fu'r Elise bit thrown in the middle of The Devil In The Brain. This collection includes a few never before released tracks too. Usual fantastic DRG packaging with exstensive liner notes.
Good Overview of Early Morricone Soundtracks.......2000-07-12
Nicely recorded two disk set of samples from various giallosand horror films scored by Morricone. I found the samples from _TheCat O' Nine Tails_, _A Lizard in a Woman's Skin_, and _The Smile of the Great Temptress_ to be my personal favorites, but there's nary a track on either of these disks that I skip over. The only quibble I have is that some of samples feel too brief, and make me want to hear the full soundtrack, which is more a compliment than anything. The extensive liner notes aren't bad (mostly informative, and annoyingly vague or obvious in spots), but do contain at least one glaring mistake: they claim that the late Sid Vicious starred in _Copkiller_, a film released in 1983, some four years after his death (I believe John Lydon, Mr. Rotten himself, was the correct Sex Pistol in _Copkiller_). Still, the set is quite a bargain at the price, I feel, and recommended to present and future fans of Morricone's music.
Spooky.......2000-06-28
Ennio is the master of soundtracks, especially when it comes to horror. This double cd set is so scary it made the hair on my arms stand up. Little children chanting devilish things to spine tingling organs to freakish violins. This cd will make you feel creepy and warm all over.

Suspense CD.......2004-09-08
Although the quality of the CD set was fine, I was disappointed to find only 9 stories in this collection. I was expecting more episodes for the price. For value, it is better to buy Suspense stories on audio-cassette.
Suspense: Greatest radio show EVER!!.......2004-08-10
Another nice collection of Suspense episodes.
Orson Welles in "The Hitchhiker".
Peter Lorre in "Back for Christmas".
Lucille Ball in "Dime a Dance".
James Stewart in "Mission Completed".
Plus, many other outstanding episodes with some well-known stars.
The shows sounds great for being over 60 years old.
Comes with a 32-page booklet.
They did mess one show up. There was suppose to be an episode with Joseph Cotton but instead it was a show with Gregory Peck, "The Lonely Road".
No big mistake in my eyes because Peck is one of my favorite actors. And it was interesting and entertaining episode.
Plenty of THRILLS and CHILLS to listen too with the lights off.

What Happened?!!!!!!.......2005-11-11
Sorry triple 6, but Choices 1 was a whole lot better than this.
First thing, what happened with the beats?, choices 1 had that
dark, murder, heavy bass hits like y'all usually do which made it
unstoppable to listen to. But Choices 2: The Set Up soundtrack
was WAY different but I still listen to it though. But Not as much
I listen to choices 1. What's going on?, I hope that this was
not Sony Music's decision.
Ok Movie, not to good cd..........2005-11-07
Sorry Triple6 but the first movie was the bomb....This one is ok... But hey what happen on the cd??? Its not to good.. Also the first DVD had music on it this one doesn't... I can't wait to see Pat and the next movie.....Peace....
CHOICES II, another tyte movie music combo.......2005-10-26
more rappers need to do this. the movie is pretty clean as well as the music. this is a must have.
Pretty Good Movie.......2005-07-23
Three 6 Once again drops a crunk album. Though not they're best, it's pretty good. The best tracks are It's Whateva Wit Us, Gettin' Real Buck, and Who Da F*** U Playin' Wit. The soundtrack is by far not Triple Six's best album. If you want the good stuff check out Mystic Stylez, The End, Chapter 2: World Domination, and Prophet Posse: Body Parts. You should pick this album up for the DVD movie. The movie is pretty good, better than I thought it would be. It is funny at times, too. So go ahead & pick this up.
