As usual, Michael Franti and Spearhead resist any kind of pigeonholing. Though it could be loosely classified as a hip-hop album, Everyone Deserves Music is, more accurately, a well-crafted and eclectic collection of political protest songs and power ballads. Franti and crew confidently build upon a vast array of musical styles, ranging from the electro-Caribbean funk that bubbles through "Pray for Grace" to the smooth, classic-rock styling of "Love Why Did You Go Away." "We Don't Stop," featuring Gift Of Gab's adept rhymes, recalls the Clash's instrumental party track, "The Magnificent Dance." R&B singer Ledisi adds soul to the Sly & Robbie-produced "Bomb the World (Armageddon Version)." The disc also contains a 23-minute mini-documentary, which highlights the band's creative process. Ah, another favorite Sunday work CD's. Franti manages to bring poignant lyrics to some laid back melodies. If you like Franti, check out John Butler Trio and Xavier Rudd.

One of my favourite albums of this decade.......2007-02-16

This is a definite 5 star album ! Wonderful songs, terrific vibrant playing, socially-aware lyrics, and underlying all of this music is a strong source of positive energy, which would seem to originate from the person of Michael Franti himself. There are uplifiting soul-inspired songs , such as the breezy Feeling Free, the rousing and chorus-driven title tune Everyone Deserves Music , and my favourite song on the album the inspirational, fantastic Yes I Will. Songs don't come better than this one! Slow tune Love Why Did You Go Away has a gradual building tempo, while more immediate tunes like the pretty Pray For Grace, the opening track What I Be and the funk wordplay of We Don't Stop also work very well. Definitely check out the landmark song Bomb The World, which is a cry for peace in a time when there seem to be new wars starting up in lots of places. It's a great song that everyone ought to pay attention to. It also appears in a second, rather different dub-influenced version as the penultimate track. Love Invincible and quiet final track Crazy Crazy Crazy round out this invaluable recording that manages to use many different musical elements to comprise a wonderful whole.

I'm sure it's been said before by others, but everyone deserves THIS music !

Purely Sublime.......2006-08-01

I just can't get enough of this album. I first heard of Michael Franti & Spearhead when hanging out at a friends house who only had three cds, one of which was "Stay Human." In no time I found the lyrics from that album running through my head all day, so I decided to make my next cd purchase a Spearhead album. Since I got this cd it has become the most played album of my collection. Never have I hear a musician draw from so many genres of music so effortlessly. The album has such an array of different sounds, and each song is diverse in of itself. When you add that to some of the finest contemporary protest poetry, you're left with an irresistable cd that is perfect for any situation... chillin' out by yourself at home, or cranking up the positive vibrations at a party. If you like any forms of hip-hop, soul, r&b, reggae, folk music, or really any good music in general, this is a must have for your collection

This CD is fantastic!! It's not very often when I can say that I truly like every song on the CD. The music is wonderful and the sentiment is even better. I can't wait to hear more from this fantastic artist!!

If you are looking for an amazing album here it is.......2003-12-05

Michael Franti and Spearhead have been churning out some of the most soulful and amazing works of musical art for years and years. The next best thing to seeing them live is listening to their albums. This is a GREAT introduction to Spearhead. If you like this check out Stay Human and even better, for a more mellow audio experience check out Michael Franti's new album Songs From The Front Porch.

Bomb The World is Heartfelt.......2004-10-30

Michael Franti will now stand tall among the masses of song writers. The meaning of "Bomb the World" is very powerful and straight from the heart. The rhythm is smooth and easy, the vocals weave a pattern of eligance, harmony and strength. This album is beautiful, the song a blockbuster. Despite censorship, politics, FCC & media control, Michael Franti should be a very household name very soon. For those of us who are awake, he is a true hero. We love you for this Michael!!

Another outstanding effort.......2003-07-24

Michael Franti is, in my opinion, probably the most gifted lyricist there is among contemporary artists. Add his smooth baritone voice and a tasty fusion of funk, rock, hip hop and pop sounds and you have a irresistible recipe. The dominant themes of Everyone Deserves Music are perseverance and love. Like so many of us, in his life Michael has clearly plumbed the depths and scaled the heights of human emotions. The authenticity of his writing is underscored when you find yourself thinking "Jeez, is he a mind reader?!" Or "I thought I was the only one thinking that".

As was the case with Stay Human, there is not a weak song on this album. (How many artists can achieve that!) You cannot help but feel uplifted by this CD. The world needs much more of this kind of high quality, positive music -- I sincerely hope that this record gets some airplay on commercial stations, and Michael gets the widespread attention he so richly deserves.

If you have a chance to see the band live, don't miss it. The atmosphere is unlike any other live show I've seen...relaxed, natural, happy and radiating positive vibes. You'll be "up" for weeks afterwards.

Everyone Deserves THIS Music !!!.......2003-06-07

Michael Franti & Spearhead continue to address social and political issues, but this time do it in a far less serious/heavy-handed manner than the outstanding, Stay Human. Franti's lyrics remain challenging, insightful, and clever. The music is far more upbeat than any of the other Spearhead CD's, taking on a funk/disco feel. The title song, Bomb The World, Pray For Grace, and Love Invincible (which I prefer from his live set) demonstrate the group's diverse talents and Franti's powerful, yet urgent calls for societal action.

There is not a weak song amoungst the collection. The only question I have is, "When will the world discover Michael Franti & Spearhead?"

Spearhead Rocks the Mike.......2004-03-07

Michael Franti and Spearhead have been rocking the nation for a while. This is their latest CD and it is incredible. It's a different kind of feeling hip hop with a heavy political message that will get you pumped up to fight the man. Another favorite of mine is their last album, Stay Human. Both are incredible and worth spending your money on. Power to the Peaceful!
