Kem plays his soul-and-jazz-juiced R&B like a man who has lived through more than most of us, and indeed he has: As fans who have followed the back story since his 2003 debut,
Kemistry, know, he's an artist who was once reduced to sleeping on Detroit park benches while battling addiction. With the release of
Album II, though, the sad stories need circulate no longerall that's required to get swept up, off, and away by these tracks is a taste for solid R&B minus the hip-hop sideshow. Coaxing vocal cords more pliable than the face of Jim Carey into unexpected directions, the Chaka Khan sound-alikewho also occasionally ventures into George Benson territoryshowers tenderness over each of these songs, sauntering into some notes with suave sophistication and sneaking up on others. Though "I Can't Stop Lovin' You" is the song throwing sparks amongst the quiet storm crowd, check his stretchy tenor on "Into You" and "I'm in Love," both so deeply felt they'll send the lovelorn swooning.

Riff rock had been what Jimmy Page's former band, the Yardbirds, were all about, and on Led Zeppelin's second album, released, like its predecessor, in 1969, the inventive guitarist demonstrated that he'd indeed learned his lessons well. Witness "Whole Lotta Love," a woozy epic based on one simple, head-banging-friendly guitar riff. Or the mock-dramatic "Heartbreaker," propelled by far more intricate but similarly effective note squashing. Between Page's sonic wizardry, John Bonham beating his drums into submission ("Moby Dick"), and the juice running down Robert Plant's leg ("The Lemon Song"), Led Zeppelin here just about succeeded in raising rock & roll excess to an art form. --Billy Altman

Led Zeppelin II is an album of Jimmy Page riffs so huge, and John Paul Jones/John Bonham rhythms so deep, that the heavy metal genre this classic helped create has tried for decades to catch up, mostly without success. And no wonder: since II catches the band before they'd headed too far into their ridiculous medieval fancies, this might be as good as Zep would ever be. Regardless, the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love," a Top 5 hit, and "Bring It on Home" are very nearly as fierce and twisted as British white blues would ever get. --David Cantwell
Customer Reviews:
Can I give it six stars?.......2007-07-17
The only way to get the great classic combo (heard primarily on the radio) that transitions the song "Heartbreaker" to "Living and Loving" is on Led Zeppelin II.
one of zep's best.......2007-06-07
Zep II finds the band still tapping the primordial riff mine that page opened up in their debut. this is still super tight bluesy hard rock focused on sex and relationships, preceding the more eclectic and experiment zep 3 & physical graffiti.
from whole lotta love to bring it on home, there's not a weak song in the group. page's irresistable riffs -- the dna for countless future metal and hard rock bands -- plant's howling wolf cum celtic hippy wail, backed by the rock-solid rhythm section of bonham/jones, makes this one of their best. just when you think they are slipping in the slow start to the album's final track, page, bonham and jones kick in with a thundering sound that reminds you what is great about rock n roll.
Great Vibes, Inspiring, Effective.......2007-05-30
Another CD filled with GENIUS ! OH, and...LUST ! These two are so passionate,.
These songs REALLY COMMUNICATE !!!!!
I painted one room's mural to this CD.
Truly effective music.
As hard-rocking as it gets. Led Zeppelin's best album........2007-05-28
Led Zeppelin's second album is sure to please all music fans of any genre. Led Zeppelin II, released in the same year as the first album in 1969, is as hard-rocking as it gets when it comes to Zeppelin. All nine tracks are Led Zeppelin at their best, whether it's world-renowned blues rock ("Whole Lotta Love"), racing guitar play ("Heartbreaker"), or awesome, creative drum solos ("Moby Dick"). This album is a representative of late-60s rock, and I find it quite similar to Axis Bold As Love, by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The album starts to amaze you with the recognizable blues-rocker "Whole Lotta Love," which has a creative interlude consisting of distorted radio waves; after said song, Zeppelin attempts to cool you down a bit with the bluesy ballad "What is and What Should Never Be," which, like "The Rain Song" from the Houses Of The Holy album, is where you'll find Robert Plant's vocals at their peak. This is followed by "The Lemon Song," which actually sounds like something Jimi Hendrix would play. "Thank You" is also a very nice Led Zeppelin song and is a very easy listen. The album's turning point is at track five, which happens to be the instant rocker "Heartbreaker". It's definately one of the band's greatest songs, and Jimmy Page is at his best in it. The hard-rocking Sabbath-like main riff is a great combination with John Bonham's rapid drumming, and the solo is easily one of the best of all time, as it is not only awesome and awestriking, but it was improvised; that proves Page can ad-lib his way through solos and STILL make it sound good. "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)" is also a very easy listen, and quite catchy at that. "Ramble On," yet another acoustic song, also contains great vocals and guitar playing. "Moby Dick" is probably where drummer John Bonham is putting forth his best effort, as the song starts out with a guitar and drum combination and then drops into a complete drum solo where at first, Bonham plays with his hands, and about two and a half minutes into the song he picks up the sticks and delivers a heavy rain of thunderous drumming. The outro of the song is when Jimmy Page comes in again and finishes it off with John, making the song a very powerful instrumental. The last song, "Bring it on Home," is very convenient for the album, as it first leaves you with a blues impression, but later picks up in a hard rock style, just as Zeppelin would do. Overall, Led Zeppelin's second album is what I think is the crown jewel in their albumography. Whenever you get the chance, buy it--you'll be pleasently surprised.
All hail the riff king!.......2007-05-14
Led Zeppelin II (1969) Led Zeppelin's second studio album.
Led Zeppelin had already shocked audiences with their controversial cover art and amazing blues-rock earlier in 1969, and later that same year they would churn out another classic album. "Led Zeppelin II" is one of the finer in their catalog, being the epitome of what Jimmy Page does best; sick and sexy blues riff-rock.
The first track is one of their most (in)famous songs, "Whole Lotta Love". A very slow-driving head-banging tune with a riff partly lifted from Willie Dixon. Page and the crew also drop crazy riffs on "Living Loving Maid", "Ramble On", and "Heartbreaker". Plant's vocals soar wildly on "What is and What Should Never Be" and "The Lemon Song" as Bonham blasts his beloved bass drum on each and every cut. What makes this album better than their debut is that it fully developed their sound. "I" had done a fairly good job of that, but "II" cut the pure blues-based pieces and instead gave it a more definitive rock edge.
As on all of the remasters, the sound quality is excellent. "II" is about on par with the original vinyl, and to untrained ears will sound just as good. This is an excellent place to start with Led Zeppelin, if not for the opening track alone. However, I would recommend to start with "Led Zeppelin IV" before coming to this gem. "II" is a cut that every classic/hard/blues/whatever rock fan should own.

Product Description
GENERAL FEATURES: Beethoven's Wig Sing Along Symphonies are zany stick-in-your-head lyrics set to the greatest hits of classical music. Filled with fact and fancy about the world's most notable composers and their masterpieces, each Sing Along Symphony opens the door to "serious music" in a way that's fun. As a bonus, the orchestral performance of each classical piece is included without lyrics. Educational entertainment for all ages.
Amazon.com
Inspired and wildly imaginative, Beethoven's Wig is one of the best introductions to classical music you could give to your children. Featuring snippets of 11 classical music staples--Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, Haydn, et al.--the disc and its creators, Richard Perlmutter and friends, pour on the silly lyrics the first time around to familiarize young ears to the old masters. Then in the last half of the record, the orchestra plays the same "serious" music pieces instrumentally. You might cheerfully recall Alan Sherman's popular spoofs of old classical works in Wig and you'll again chuckle at pieces like "Drip, Drip, Drip," which adapts Delibes's "Pizzicato from Sylvia." You'll also marvel at the expertise throughout the CD, with all the pieces well played yet thoroughly fun. Beethoven's Wig is an orchestral treasure with a sense of humor as old or as new as its listeners (and the fun questions that run throughout the CD's liner notes are almost as entertaining as the zany musical interludes). Highly recommended. --Martin Keller
Customer Reviews:
Great for young children. Many Thanks!.......2007-07-16
I bought this one for my son since he was 2. We listen to it from time to time. Now at 3-1/2 he recognizes the music and melody. We dance, sing, and play with his toys or little instrument. We loves every songs especially Can Can, Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, and Hungarian Rhapsody #2 which is also in "Cat Concerto" Tom & Jerry. It is a great way for every kids & parents to enjoy classical music. Thanks for making this CD happened.
EXCELLENT CD to introduce kids (& adults) to classical music!.......2007-07-08
This CD is a must for every child. It is so important for children to appreciate the great composers. This CD is a wonderful introduction and a fun way for children to learn the facts and names to go along with the tunes. The selection of pieces for this disk are also wonderful. It is nice that the songs are also to where you can listen to them without the lyrics. My children love it and my husband loves to hear just the music (& he is more of a oldies rock n roll & country music man).

We originally received Beethoven's wig from a friend. My two year old and eight year old loved it so much that I had to buy #2 from www.amazon.com and got the third one used on www.ebay.com. Now I have them all on a playlist on my Ipod, and we play them non-stop in the car, and at home. (putting all three on my Ipod makes it more bearable since it is not always the same songs). Too bad www.Itunes.com hasn't caught on yet.
The best part was when my daughter told her Music Camp teacher, " Tchaikovsky is my favorite composer!" I thought she was going to faint.
Truly fun AND educational.......2007-06-01
We play this probably once a day in our home and my kids (one is almost 5, and 2 yr old twins) all enjoy it! Definitely appealing to kids, but also not offensive to the adult ear. I even find myself humming the words when I hear these classical pieces at other times of the day. I recommend for any household with small kids - it introduces classical music in a very fun, upbeat way.
My kids' hands-down favorite classical CD.......2007-05-18
My kids take piano lessons, and I was hoping that listening to classical music would help them enjoy their lessons a bit more, since many of their lesson pieces are variations of classical melodies, and, for whatever reason, they don't naturally enjoy classical music.
I had heard rave reviews about the Classical Kids series of CDs (where a story is set to a composer's music), and, while my children enjoyed them, they didn't really want to hear the stories repeatedly, so the melodies didn't stick.
We got this CD from the library, and the minute they heard the first line of this CD, they were in hysterics. They just LOVED the silly lyrics, and they've listened to the CD repeatedly. They begged me to buy our own copy and to get the 2nd and 3rd CDs in this series. They ask questions about the music and the lyrics, trying to figure out what play on words and reality the creator of the CD was thinking about. They remember the music and who composed it. And they are much more interested in playing the pieces they know on the piano!
So, for our purposes, this CD has been perfect.
And yes, I put my money where my mouth is and purchased all three CDs in this set :) This one is still our favorite.

Had Use Your Illusion II been combined with Use Your Illusion I, keeping only the best material while dropping the filler, it would have been one of the best rock albums ever recorded. Instead, great songs like "Civil War," "14 Years," "Estranged," and "So Fine" compete with the inexcusable "Get in the Ring" and the well-intentioned but off-target cover of "Knockin' on Heaven's Door." There's no point to the second version of "Don't Cry," either. On the other hand, when Guns N' Roses were good, they were very, very good, and some of the material on this album is unsurpassable. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
The final album by Guns and Roses..........2007-06-26
Both Use Your Illusion albums had enough material for a 4LP set, and most of it is superb. This is the better of the two records, with G n R classics like Locomotive (an intense, nearly 9 minute rave up), Pretty Beat Up (courtesy of Izzy Stradlin with a cool sitar intro), an excellent cover of Knockin' on Heaven's Door, and Estranged is a good ballad. Gettin' in the Ring is a funny song where Axl goes off on critics. The song is a bit obvious, but it's still fun to listen to. This is more than likely Guns n Roses's final album. There's no way Axl is ever going to release anything else. How come Axl and company can release the equivalent of four albums in 1991, and haven't made an album of new material in 16 years (well, at least Axl, the others have moved on)? Axl needs to get his head out of his a**, and stop being full of himself.
Pure early 90s metal.......2007-05-19
Use Your Illusion II, the second half of Guns 'n' Roses' dual release, is second only to Appetite for Destruction in their list of best albums. With charging guitar funk ("Breakdown"), speeding hard rock ("You Could Be Mine"), and amazing ballads ("Estranged"), UYI II is a must-own for everyone and all die-hard G'N'R fans. It starts off with a creative blend of hard rock and balladry ("Civil War"), and after you've heard that song, you're immeadiately hooked. The blues rock sample of "14 Years" is also amongst the best in G'N'R's arsenal, and it shows that sometimes, bassists CAN be good at singing. "Estranged," which is probably the album's highest point, is one of the top 100 greatest songs of all time, and could even give "Stairway to Heaven" a run for its money. Other songs on the album, such as the two-part "Breakdown" and the awesome "So Fine," also deserve credit for giving the album the unique sound it has. "You Could Be Mine," which is my favorite from the album, is a hard-rocking G'N'R hit that will have you headbanging from the start. It features brilliant vocals by Axl Rose, awesome drumming from Matt Sorum, and masterful guitar playing from the almighty Slash. Use Your Illusion II probably would've won Best Album of the Year Award in 1992, but unfortunatly it didn't get the recogniton it needed thanks to Nevermind by Nirvana, one of the most overrated albums of all time. Standing as the last good album by Guns 'n' Roses, Use Your Illusion II will help you become a big fan of the band, even if you're against them in every way. A must-own album for everyone.
gnr 2.......2007-02-15
one of the best gnr albums, the other is part 1. most of the songs on the use your illusion cd's are really well written.
Wildly uneven, but could've been amazing.......2006-12-21
Hey, remember my old review of this album? Remember how much it SUCKED? Well, I'm editing it, because I've changed my mind about a couple songs. Now, I still feel Knockin' on Heaven's Door is a mockery of the Dylan classic, that Get in the Ring is stupidly self-centered, that My World is more wanking to end the extended game of pocket-hockey we call Use Your Illusion (at least it's short...), that Locomotive and Breakdown are amazing examples of WHY I feel this was an extended game of pocket hockey (how come nobody but me says that anymore?), and there's too much idiocy like Shotgun Blues, Pretty Tied Up (someone should make a law about anyone but Lou Reed writing a song about S&M) and So Fine. Oh, and why remake Don't Cry? It was a good song, you know, before you threw in the unneeded remake.
But we've got five REALLY AWESOME songs here. Ever see that video for Yesterdays? Great stuff, man. (and this from a guy who normally despises music videos!) Say what you will about Axl, but that little slither-dance thing he's got going is pretty cool. Now, I'm not saying you can judge a song by its video, because the song itself is amazing, too. Slash and Izzy riff away and Axl howls "ooh... yesterday's... got nothin' for me!" Schweet. Estranged is, well... Estranged. I didn't like it at first, but I didn't like ANY Guns n' Roses at first - their work seems to grow on me more than any other group's. Anyway, air-guitaring to that thing should be some sort of Olympic event, it's a great song to blast out the windows while you do said air guitaring (it'll drive the neighbors crazy, especially if they hate GN'R as I'm sure mine do and if you're as bad at air-guitar as me), it's got the best lyrics on any GN'R song anywhere ('cept maybe Patience), it's awesomely epic, AND I like Dizzy Reed's piano. It's true. I think he was an unnecessary addition to the band, but Estranged makes me change my mind. Possibly the best of either Illusion, though November Rain's some pretty stiff competition. Anyway, Izzy Stradin's my second-favorite Gunner (behind Guy with Cool Hat, Cool Stage Name and Even Cooler Guitar Tone), and he gets a chance to sing on his Stonesy Axl bash-a-thon 14 Years, which rocks tremendously. And I haven't gotten to the two big hits: Civil War (which mixes Appetite's hard rock, GN'R Lies' acoustic material, and surprising social relevance) which rules, and You Could Be Mine, a flat-out burning rocker which rules even more.
pretty good.......2006-10-06
This was a pretty good piece of work by GNR, but they have definately done better. Use your Illusion I was clearly the better of the two, but that doesnt mean this cd was total trash. This was by-far 10 times better than the Spaghetti Incedent, but not as good as Appetite for Destruction or the Greatest Hits album. "Knockin' on Heavens Door" was probably the best song on the album, whearas "My World" was complete garbage. I don't know what they were thinking with this song, but it sucks big time.

something to have.......2007-03-14
These CD's are filled with all the awesome relaxing songs for the evening when you need it. It is just one of those must have items in your CD collection.
Excellent Music.......2007-02-19
This album was a "try and see" purchase but I love it. It makes great dinner music, great music to drift off to sleep with, or just nice background filler during social events needing a softer tone. It is not all solo piano music if that s what you are after; the other instruments blend very well however and don't challenge the piano playing. It is a piano album after all!
buy now.......2006-09-01
Want to know why I think the piano is the best musical instrument ever invented? Because no matter how the piano is played, it will always sound good. Whether the music is fast, slow, quiet or loud, it ALWAYS delivers with an appealing sound. This is something you need to buy.
Lovely.......2006-02-22
This is a beautiful calming cd. The playing is excellent and the pieces are well chosen.
Aesthetically Pleasing.......2005-09-14
I simply love piano music. If you're looking to relax, enjoy a peaceful time, then you must check out this album. If you truly enjoy piano music, this album is by far one of the best you can purchase.
As it says....it is the "Most Relaxing Piano Album in the World...Ever..." Well, I haven't listened to all piano albums in the world, but I don't need to, this one is just perfect for me, and I think you will agree!
I would say the pianists' are extremely accomplished. At times, I would admit-it's a bit 'spine tingling'!

Excellent Introduction to Spanish Classical Guitar Music.......2005-09-18
As a sampler, this CD is an excellent introduction both to Spanish classical guitar music and to guitarist John Williams.
The music ranges from Renaissance composers (Sanz, Mudarra) and harmonized folk melodies to standard 20th Century works (Rodrigo, Torroba etc).
John Williams is excellent throughout. The CD is also cheap, and can be used either just for enjoyment, or further to explore other recordings by Williams, the classical guitar repertoire, or other classical guitarists.
As a marketing ploy, it is very effective.
For the collector or classical guitar enthusiast, the chief disadvantages of the CD are duplication of other recordings, and that the way at least some of the works on this CD are listed isn't helpful in telling the listener the set(s) to which these pieces belong and how to find them (e.g. "from ______, Op # "). The font listing the titles and track numbers is small and somewhat hard to read.
However, this CD should attract many listeners and enthusiasts both to the classical guitar, the repertoire, and guitarist John Williams - and I'm all for that.
Over 70 minutes playing time.
Recommended.
The guitar is an orchestra in miniature!.......2005-02-05
This admirable concept belongs to Hector Berlioz and it must not be a surprise the best guitarrists in the story have in common this trademark.
John Williams has always known the delicate equilibrium between the expresiveness and the glamouer. His impresive technique however is not exposed as his prima edonna. He goes directly to the soul of the composer, melts in his spirit and let the music sharp the qith eloquent conviction the composer's demanded atmosphere.
From Granados to Albeniz, from Rodrigo to Agustin Barrios - El indio Mangore -, from Moreno Torroba to Ponce , you will find the warmth, the passion and the Midas touch of this golden guitarrist.
GUITAR MAJESTY.......2004-12-21
John Williams is a true Guitar virtuoso. His repetoire is very extensive and I use his music in my office while I work at my daily office duties. This album is a must for all guitar enthusiasts old or young.
Sweet, sweet music, an essential addition to your collection.......2004-12-07
I originally bought this album three years ago, looking for a good introduction to Spanish guitar music. And this one fits that need perfectly. I still listen to and enjoy it today. I play this for guests at happy hour or dinner for a relaxed atmosphere. At Amazon's current price, this is a great value.
A True Classic.......2004-01-26
This album/cd is extraordinary. All the songs are gorgeous and exciting to listen to. John Williams' interpretation and technique are perfect. After 22 years of listening to it, I still enjoy and appreciate it more every time. I love giving it as a gift.

At a certain point, bad taste and bombast becomes so excessive and so grandiose that they're no longer an easily dismissed irritation but an astonishing monument to the warped imagination. Such a monument is Meat Loaf's Bat Out of Hell II: Back Into Hell, the long-delayed sequel to 1977's Bat Out of Hell. Once again songwriter/producer Jim Steinman has isolated high-school parking-lot aphorisms and inflated them to Wagner-on-Broadway proportions, casting Mr. Loaf as a heavy-metal Ezio Pinza. Typical of the album's strategy is its big hit single, "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)." Steinman piles on the guitars, drums, synthesizers, and choral voices as if he were Phil Spector producing Kiss playing the Who songbook. The rest of the album tackles the themes of teenage lust, frustration, and rock & roll fantasies in similar fashion. It's somehow beside the point to complain about the puerile lyrics, the leaden rhythms, the derivative melodies, the histrionic vocals, or the overblown arrangements. Steinman knows how to push his audience's buttons, and with Meat Loaf's help, he hits those buttons with a sledgehammer. --Geoffrey Himes
Customer Reviews:
Great Rock & Roll.......2007-07-23
I love this CD. I had the tape and listened to it until it wouldn't play any more. The song content may not be appropriate for kids but the beat and the melody I think out weigh the content if you are an adult.
Good music but..........2006-12-04
The music on the CD is defiantly a A Bat Out Of Hell Series Classic but the overall quality of the sound is sad; I felt as if my Bose 501 speakers had a bowl of Rice Krispies inside and as soon as I played the Bat Out Of Hell 3 their was a noticeably pleasant sound coming from the speakers;Quality!each Cd was purchased from Amazon,NEW...
For love.......2006-11-29
For some reason, people ask me - and I'm not kidding - "What is it that Meat Loaf won't do for love?"
So here's the list:
HE WON'T:
* Lie to you (and that's a fact)
* Never forget the way you feel right now, oh no, no way
* Forgive himself if you don't go all the way tonight
* Ever do it better than he does it with you (so long, so long)
* Ever stop dreaming of you every night of his life (no way)
* Forget everything and "see that it's time to move on"
* Let it all turn to dust so we'll all fall down
* Be screwing around
For those of you really curious about the inner workings of his heart and level of commitment, here's what he will, in fact, do for love...
HE WILL:
* Run right into Hell and back
* take a vow and seal a pact
* be there til the final act
* do anything you've been dreaming of
* Raise you up and help you down
* Get you right out of this Godforsaken town
* Make it all a little less cold
* Hold you sacred and hold you tight
* Colorize your life because you're so sick of black and white
* make it all a little less old
* make you some magic with his own two hands
* build you an emerald city from grains of sand
* give you something you can take home
* cater to every fantasy you got
* hose you down with holy water if you get too hot
* take you places you've never known
*all items listed are from the Meat Loaf song "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)" from the album Bat Out of Hell 2
Bat 2 is great not as good as ba1 or bat 2 though.but still 5 star cd........2006-11-09
To me the first 6 songs are what make the album. After that the album gets sloppy. But the first 6 songs are an 50 minutes and something of music. And they are great songs.

The Central Scrutinizer is out to protect you from the harmful effects of that horrible force called music. Such is the premise of Joe's Garage, Frank Zappa's three-act concept album which explores the world of groupies, governments, sex toys, and Catholic school girls. As always, Zappa's aim is true and his scope wide, following Joe (voiced by his long-time co-conspirator, Ike Willis) as he starts a band, loses his girl, falls in love with a robot, and tries to find his true place in society. Filled with catchy classics ("Catholic Girls" "Crew Slut") and blazing guitar work ("Keep it Greasy," "Watermleon in Easter Hay"), this is the sort of schmorgasbord of imagination and artistry that only Zappa could produce. --Andrew Boscardin
Customer Reviews:
Great all the way thru, from first listen!!.......2007-07-28
Having just received this CD today in an order with 2 other well known Zappa releases I wasn't sure which one to play first. But I remembered what I heard last week reading a quote from Dweezil about his opinion that Joe's Garage would be his choice to pick if he was going to give a brand new never heard Zappa person a Cd to listen to. So as I have about 30 Zappa Cds and dont fall into that category I was instantly impressed and could see why he would make such a statement. This material sounded new and fresh, not dated at all. And it showed all the different aspects of Frank that made him such a unique genius.Humor, guitar jamming, more humor and brilliant fitting in of all the instruments(drums especially). This 3 part act of Joe's Garage should definitly be any new Zappa fans must listen to list, and boy am I happy that I picked it to listen to first too!!Sincerely Bob Repple, Chicago
Quintessential Zappa.......2006-12-06
I have been a Zappa fan since I snuck a listen to Apostrophe/Over-nite Sensation from my Dad's collection 20 years ago. Like much of Zappa's music, this album, perhaps his finest overall work, can be oversimplified and categorized ascetically (as a previous reviewer attempted to do).
This is not just "silly and crude humor music" and it does not fall into a "1,2,3,4 category" of Zappa listener. Joe's Garage, as a complete work, attacks and obliterates those individuals/organizations who, through various means of censorship, insidiously undermine the purpose of creating music.
He accomplishes this with direct attacks on the political right (e.g. the Central Scrutinizer), conservative religious parties (e.g. Catholic Girls), the media and all other pseudo-intellectuals (e.g. packed goose), and, really, anyone whose sensibilities would lead them to censorship of creativity. Consider the historical context here: the attack on music throughout the 1980's/Tipper Gore's The Parents Music Resource Center was founded in 1985. The content of Joe's Garage is intended to offend all these people.
Like all art, one can make a judgment of whether the overall piece appeals to their ascetics, which Joe's Garage does for me - definitely five stars, and leave it at that. However, true analysis of real art should leave one with questions on intent, message, and composition which Joe's Garage also does very effectively.
Through this analysis, one can realize one object of Frank Zappa's argument: freedom of expression (in this case music) is important and socially relevant; hence the aforementioned party's desire for censorship. Beautiful use of irony through music Frank!
"Eventually it was discovered that God did not want us to be all the same. This was bad news for the Governments of the World... Mankind must be made more uniformly if THE FUTURE was going to work out... It was about this time that someone came up with the idea of TOTAL CRIMINALIZATION, based on the principle that if we were ALL crooks we could at least be uniform to some degree in the eyes of the law. Shrewdly our legislators calculated that most people were too lazy to perform a REAL CRIME. So new laws were manufactured making it possible for anyone to violate them at any time of the day or night... which is one of the reasons why music was eventually made ILLEGAL."
--Frank Zappa, liner notes from Joe's Garage, Acts 2

4 and a half stars. Really dumb....but good.
okay, so if you don't know what the hell this thing is it's like a stupid high school play, but they would never allow this. this story is about music being illegal, and this guy named Joe is having sex with robots and appliances and trying to get music legal again.

Strong but not Van Halen's best [4.5 stars].......2007-05-03
Van Halen II is a really good rock album. There's not a bad song on it. It's straight-forward rock with a pinch of funk in spots. The problem, for me, has always been that it was the follow-up to one of the best rock albums ever made. Several other albums in the Roth era were much stronger, particularly Fair Warning and 1984. VHII is certainly a worthy effort, it's just bookended by much better albums.
The best.......2007-03-04
Maybe the best Van Halen album ever. And to quote Dave. "It's like the guy says in that movie I Hate You. The best comedy ain't always funny". Van Halen is America's greatest rock band. If you don't have this cd buy it.
Like Van Halen 1 and thats a good thing.......2007-02-12
VH II is like a continuation of the first classic. It has the strong originals, Eddies solo(this time on acoustic) and the cover song, "you're no good". Good second album, no musical growth here, but still just as good as the first.
One of the Greatest Riffs Ever.......2007-02-07
I think Van Halen maintained the brilliance started on their first album with their second release. Not as many singles as #1, but just as good of songs. The real stand-out is "D.O.A." which features Diamond Dave and Eddie both doing what they do best (heck props to Alex as well). This album is an essential item if you are starting up your Van Halen collection, as if that really needs to be stated.
VAN HALEN II IS A GREAT FOLLOW UP AND SEQUEL TO VAN HALEN'S DEBUT ALBUM!.......2007-01-02
I will be writing a review on the legendary brilliant masterpiece follow up album simply entitled "VAN HALEN II" by one of Rocks greatest bands of ALL-TIME, I'm talking about the legendary great VAN HALEN! This legendary album was originally released in 1979 on vinyl/LP and cassette on the Warner Brothers Records label. I purchased the very first release of this album on CD and the matrix or ID number is 3312-2. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary album, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.
What can I say about this legendary album and the legendary great band that recorded it all those years ago that hasn't already been said? Following the success of their popular self-titled debut album "VAN HALEN" from 1978, it was now time for the band to head back into the recording studio and record another great a*s kicking album that would be the follow up and sequel to the original! And VAN HALEN DID JUST THAT! Their follow up, "VAN HALEN II," released one year later in 1979 would be their delivery and result! "VAN HALEN II" would also answer and silent all the music critics questions and concerns in wondering if VAN HALEN could do it again and deliver a great follow up and sequel to the original! In my opinion, "VAN HALEN II" is an outstanding album and a GREAT follow up to the original! In my opinion, I'm still not quite sure if "VAN HALEN II" is as good as the original since I still believe that "VAN HALEN" kicks more a*s than "VAN HALEN II!" However, "VAN HALEN II" is still great and contains some a*s kicking Rock n' Roll moments on it that does resemble "VAN HALEN!" Every single song track contained on this legendary album is GREAT!
I will list and briefly review all the song tracks contained in this legendary album in their original exact running order as follows: (1.) "You're No Good," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! A great tribute version of the original Linda Ronstadt Rocker! This Rockin' version is done the VAN HALEN way, IT KICKS A*S! David Lee really belts this Rocker out with his blistering Lead Vocals! What a great way to begin this legendary album! Great song!) (2.) "Dance The Night Away," Outstanding! Brilliant! superb! Another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER that KICKS A*S! I love this Rocker!) (3.) "Somebody Get Me A Doctor," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER that KICKS A*S! I LOVE Eddie's guitar riff arrangements in this one! With Eddie's blistering guitar playing combined with David Lee's blistering merciless Lead Vocals, you have one hell of a GREAT ROCKER THAT CAN'T GO WRONG! SOMEBODY GIVE ME A SHOT! I love it dearly!) (4.) "Bottoms Up!," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER that KICKS A*S! David Lee and Eddie really gets into this Rocker! I love it!) (5.) "Outta Love Again," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER that KICKS A*S! I love Eddie's blistering guitar riff and solo arrangements backed up by David Lee's blistering Lead Vocals in this one! I love it dearly!) (6.) "Light Up The Sky," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER that KICKS A*S as well! Eddie and David Lee get into this Rocker as well! I love it!) (7.) "Spanish Fly," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! This instrumental acoustic number is quite simply, M-R. E-D-D-I-E V-A-N H-A-L-E-N! Eddie really kicks a*s in this solo acoustic number! GREAT!) (8.) "D.O.A.," (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER that KICKS A*S! I love Eddie's blistering merciless guitar riff arrangements in this one backed up by David Lee's blistering ruthless Lead Vocals! Great song!) (9.) "Women In Love..." (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER! I love Eddie's and David Lee's blistering contributions in this Rocker! This is a GREAT Rocker as well!) and (10.) "Beautiful Girls." (Outstanding! Brilliant! Superb! Again, another GREAT VAN HALEN ROCKER THAT KICKS A*S! A great and appropriate way to conclude this legendary album! Eddie and David Lee deliver another great blistering performance in this Rocker! I Love this rocker dearly!) Overall, this is one hell of an a*s kicking album that contains some great blistering song tracks!
As you can see, this is definitely one treasure album worth purchasing that he or she should definitely as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This album is a true classic and will definitely prove to persevere the test of time and get better like wine! This legendary priceless gem without a doubt will always be around to be enjoyed and cherished for many more years to come, NOW AND FOREVER!
In closing, the VAN HALEN legend does not end here! If anything, IT IS ONLY THE BEGINNING! Following the release and success of "VAN HALEN II," Guitar Player Magazine would vote VAN HALEN'S premiere Lead Guitarist and axman Eddie Van Halen BEST GUITARIST OF THE YEAR! This would be an award that Eddie would get accustomed to winning especially since he would win this award and honor for the next four years! However, there was still some greatness in the VAN HALEN legend that was yet to come! There would be new stories and chapters that would still need to be conquered and written! But that is something that you, my fellow readers and reviewers, will have to read more about! So stay tuned! Here's to you David Lee, Eddie, Alex and Michael! And as the saying goes folks, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong or need I say more? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. VAN HALEN RULES! Long Live Rock n' Roll! Rock out always and take care. Forever in Rock, J.L.

Woo Hoo!.......2007-05-07
This is by far the best CD in the Baby Einstein collection--it will put your toddler in hyperactive playful mode and exhaust you as you try to keep up. But for today's overweight, tv- and game- addicted children, this is great!
Einstein.......2007-04-09
Anything that has an Einstein in the title my twins love. I used to play this for them at night while they slept.
The baby danced........2007-03-09
I gave Baby Einstein: Playtime Music Box to a little boy on his first birthday. He loves it and dances and dances to the music.
A Lot of Fun for Playtime.......2006-01-04
This CD is a lot of fun. The music is bubbly and upbeat and makes you want to get up and dance or just jump around. It's a great way to spend some play time with your kids. And the classical music exposure is a bonus.
Synthesized dreck.......2005-08-13
Why did the producers use synthesizers for this music? It's awful. It's possible to hook kids on classical music using the actual instruments written for it - that's how I got hooked. That's what Mel Blanc and Disney did in their cartoons, Bugs Bunny and Fantasia. I do NOT recommend this CD to anyone. It was a shower gift. If you are not familiar with classical music, then I recommend "Baby Needs Beethoven", which is a collection of music using real instruments (albeit shortened - no full length symphonies here).

This commemorative reissue of music from 2001: A Space Odyssey combines the Also sprach Zarathustra theme, various Johann and Richard Strauss segments, and a ballet suite by Aram Khachaturian--all of which prove how much Stanley Kubrick's film attempts to avoid the soundtrack clichés of most science-fiction movies. Instead of the expected sci-fi effects, there is a more ironic application of music that would be otherwise incongruous to the celestial settings. Here, "The Blue Danube" complements scenes involving weightlessness and descending spacecraft, while Gyorgy Ligeti's creepy "monolith" music connotes Armageddon more than interplanetary exploration. The tracks play as they had appeared on the original soundtrack release back in the '60s, but there is also previously unreleased supplemental material and a dialogue montage entitled "HAL 9000." --Joseph Lanza
Customer Reviews:
great music, great reissue.......2007-04-16
This is a great collection of music and I love the great mastering job that was done with this. The inclusion of the tracks from the original MGM soundtrack release are a great bonus. The liner notes include interpretations of the film and the music that are insightful.
I noticed that the music in the movie is mixed in surround sound, it would be great if they could release this on DVD-Audio or SACD surround. I'd buy it again!
fantastic.......2007-03-11
I have the old lp release of this music, what an incredible array of classical music, topped off by my personal favorite piece of music in the world, the blue danube waltz. Let yourself be carried away in deep space by this incredible score.
whoa........2006-09-04
"Atmospheres" was enough to make me buy this album. just try to imagine what eternity might sound like. okay, now you know exactly what Atmospheres is. wow. who else could having captured the feelings that are in this score? this is above talented. this is above genius. this is above avand garde. this is too good to be labeled as anything at all.
Great Music for Halloween, very creepy.......2006-03-17
I bought this CD to use for a haunted house program, the music will creep you out.
Bleakest of Futures..........2005-10-08
The atonal, unsettling atmosphere of much of the music of Ligeti is fitting to the bleak vision of a human future reigned by nothing but cold technology and of humans drained of emotions except for the deepest animalist fear originating from our inner reptilian brainparts which have not changed for over millions of years. The incongruity of Johann Strauss' lovely 'An der schönen blauen Donau' with the cold technicality of spacefaring as depicted here could not be more complete, but what a perfect find on Stanley Kubrick's part! It makes the uneasiness and confusion even greater. And then, to top it of, the complete and flabbergasting irony of using Richard Strauss' Fanfare for the 'rise of Man' in his 'Also Sprach Zarathustra': what a great destiny for 'Man' indeed, this bleakest of bleak visions of the future!
As a soundtrack for '2001: A Space Odyssey' this music together on one album is just great.
And besides, this soundtrack has indeed, like so many others I guess, made me aware of the genius of Ligeti, which otherwise might have gone unnoticed for me.
