About the Artist
Hi-Tide is the Cayman Islands first contemporary Pop group. There is a hint of the islands in their music, but it is always cleverly mixed in with the sounds of Rock, Blues, Soul, Funk, and even the occasional Country lick or phrase. Founding members Shane Allenger and Sean Hennings have been writing and playing together in bands since 1984. In 1988 Shane moved to Nashville, and for one year he performed regularly on TNN with many country greats, such as Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Nicolette Larson, and Randy Travis. Some of his singing and songwriting influences are Sting, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Michael McDonald, and James Ingram. In 1989 Sean took off for Hollywood, CA to improve on his drumming and reading abilities at the popular Musicians Institute of Technology. His drumming influences include Steve Gadd, Dave Weckel,Graham Lear, Stewart Copeland and Carlton Barrett of Bob Marley and the Wailers. Upon reuniting, Shane and Sean started writing and performing again landing jobs opening for, or performing with the likes of Bon Jovi, Jimmy Cliff, Third World, Shabba, and many more. Since forming Hi-Tide in 1994 they have released four albums, Hi-Tide "Change","Begin Again","Unplugged Classics" and "Unplugged Classics 2" with many songs receiving extensive air play on Cayman's radio stations. They have also been featured on Westwood One's top 100 countdown as import of the week. Two songs from Begin Again,'That's what I'd do' and 'In your kiss'received good airplay on top 40 radio in the USA in 2000. Hi-Tide has opened for the Jeff Healy Band, played at Miss Hawaiian Tropic in Daytona, FL and toured clubs in South Florida. They also received Runner-Up honours in the 1997 Rhythms of the Caribbean competition sponsored by Island Records, and the New Yorker Magazine. They were then selected to represent the Cayman Islands at the Summer Concert Series in Boston the Caribbean Tourism Convention in Aruba and the 1999 EARTH Awareness Festival in Live Oak Fla.Their song Unity was also chosen as the theme song for the EARTH Awareness festival 2000.
