Just when you thought things couldn't get any sudsier, Ireland sends us their entry for the never-ending Teen Pop Summit that seems to be holding the charts hostage. Marketed as Celtic Spice Girls, B*witched are actually a G-rated version, complete with voices so light and sweet you can barely hear them through the whistles, dance beats, and faux guitar solos that litter this debut. There's a bit of everything here: echoes of Jackson 5 ("Rev It Up"), the intro from "Venus" ("Freak Out"), and song titles straight out of the '50s ("Oh Mr. Postman"). More frothy than their male counterparts, but harder to swallow, B*witched come off like giddy kids-television hosts. The earnest ballad "Castles in the Air" is perhaps the only track that won't offend older (read: 15 and up) ears, but the teenyboppers will love the whole disc. --Rebecca WallworkAlbum Description

Backtracking to find a super great abum.......2006-09-21
When I sampled this CD, the intro is, of course, an instrumental. It sounds a bit Celtic. Now you can never judge a book by its cover, and CD albums are no exception. I've found bright and eye-catching album covers to contain very mature...or OK, BORING... music. So, I'm always skeptical until proven wrong, when it comes to searching for a new album to delve into. When I listened to the intro, I thought, "My that was incredibly UNinteresting..." but I gave it another chance with track two, and the CD turned out to be just what I always look for! "C'est la Vie" is as pop as it gets, but my favorite is "To You I Belong." This group is similar to The Corrs in how a lot of their songs have a traditional "Irish" sound, but a pop beat and tempo. Beautiful mix! My parents are quite conservative. They've given up on the music industry. They were into `80s, but lost interest after that. Now they've gotten into lyric-less jazz albums, like Kenny G and whatnot. They're reasoning is that they don't want to be told what a song is about, and without lyrics, they can conjur that for themselves. To me, vocals are too dynamic to leave out of a song. I am all too eager to appreciate a good singer, or a great singer, or a great singer singing a GREAT song. The latter is where this CD falls. It is most unusual for a CD to stay strong through all of the tracks. This is another. Track 7 starts with a kind of chant, and a heavy and slow drum beat in the background, then the chorus goes into a hardrock guitar riff. You would think that it wouldn't fit for a group like this, but no matter how playful a parody of hard rock it tries to be, it actually turns out really, really well. It could've bombed since it's so risky, but it actually turns out perfect. A mighty song with lyrics that fit it, "We four girls are here to stay!" This album came out right when I started to listen to music, in 1999, I didn't know about it until now, and my "progress" in what I've listened to has been very slow, but I can't help but wonder how I didn't notice this group back then...

Even more than the Spice Girls, the four-woman Irish act B*Witched is an all-things-to-most-people proposition. Awake and Breathe, the second album by these U.K.-chart conquerors, doesn't make concessions to the American pop market, but these 13 tracks do contain their share of potential stateside hits: the Sheryl Crow-like "If It Don't Fit," the straight-shooting Spice-esque "Shy One," the Crystal Waters-style house "My Superman." A broad spectrum of comparisons for one album? Put it down as much to healthy eclecticism as mercenary concerns. Still, Awake's occasional big statement seems more forced than necessary: Ladysmith Black Mambazo's appearance on the would-be anthem "I Shall Be There" is more a nod to their own recent bestselling status in Great Britain than any desire for real connection between the two groups. But while hardly a classic, the best of Awake will please fans of heartfelt mainstream pop. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Better than their first album!!!.......2003-12-16
01 If It Don't Fit--Reminds me of one of the WB dramedy shows, but not my favorite. 7/10
02 Jesse Hold On--It's like Sting's "All This Time", but it's also like located near the Appalachian Mountains. 8/10
03 I Shall Be There--A wedding march song!!! It's like a combination of 98*'s "I Do" and Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes". 10/10
04 Jump Down--It's like travelling through daytime New York City, but #1 song of this album. 10/10
05 Someday--Medieval times and it's a theme of "Alice In Wonderland". 9/10
06 Leaves--Travel through the farmlands of Northeastern United States area with this track. 9/10
07 The Shy One--Tough song, but something to reflex on. 9/10
08 Red Indian Girl--Walking through Southwestern areas. 9/10
09 It Was Our Day--A beautiful country song. 9/10
10 My Superman--Disco through daytime New York City, but not my favorite. 7/10
11 Are You A Ghost?--A haunted ballad, but should have been released on radio. 9/10
12 In Field Where We Lay--Acapella, like Boyz II Men's "Yesterday", 98*'s "She's Out Of My Life", Robyn's "I Wish", and N'Sync's "I Thought She Knew". Wish the college girls can do that in their own college. 8/10
13 Blame It On the Weatherman--Orchestra version of the first album's track, to close this second album. 9/10
Awake and buy it!!!.......2003-07-20

An OK song with some great remixes.......1999-08-09
"Get Happy" is a decent b-side, although the opening line "Don't be a brontosaurus..." is kind of silly. Speaking of silly, what is the point of the "B*Witched Game Show"? Just ignore these throwaway tracks and listen to the two superb remixes.
