A massive dance hit.......2004-01-15

"I Learned From The Best" was the fourth and final single from her "My Love Is Your Love" LP. This track was transformed from a rather uninspiring ballad to big-time club anthem thanks to a series of stunning remixes.

My favorite on here in the HQ2 (Hex Hector/Mac Quayle) Club Mix. Of all their amazing remixes, this is one of the best (if not the best) mixes to come from the HQ2 camp. It blew away the dance floors in early 2000 and is now considered a classic among DJs. With Whitney's powerful vocals, tribal drums, and even breathing sounds, the mix just pounds away for 9 minutes with an amazing amount of energy. The production values are top notch, and the break in the middle is one of the best I've ever heard.

A close second is the Jr. Vasquez Disco Club Mix which is excatly the way it sounds - retro, disco, campy, over the top. Whitney actually re-sang her vocals in the studio for this mix. They seem more raw and stripped down which fits the mix perfectly. The Disco mix got lots of club play too and stands out as one of the best mixes Jr. Vasquez ever put out.

The other club mix (Jr. Vasquez USA Millenium Mix) is also good but just doesn't measure up IMO. The album version is a dull throwaway, but it makes you appreciate just how incredible these remixes really are.

"I Learned From The Best" spent 3 weeks at #1 on Billboard's Dance/Club Chart and became Whitney's fourth #1 in a row.

Where's The Soul?.......2000-04-28

Apparently, some of the reviewers of this single have amnesia. Because I know they are old enough to remember that you could not have walked into a club in 1988 without being blown away by the fab remixes of "So Emotional" and "Love Will Save The Day". Whitney was hip to the importance of a jamming club remix long before girls with names like Mariah, Amber, Toni, Deborah, Celine, Taylor, Ultra and Kristine had record deals.

That said, it is a shame to see that Hex Hector has run out of ideas. Whitney has rendered a powerful, dramatic vocal, but Hex has turned it into some tired circuit party crap. Jr. Vasquez hasn't done a decent remix in years.

Whitney needs a pumping, original, festive club mix to complement this fantastic vocal, where are Masters At Work when you need them?

and whether it's breakin' hearts or breakin' charts, Mrs. Houston is makin' the grade! In this song Houston tells it like it is to the man who broke her heart in chapter 1. In chapter 2, the shoe is on the other foot, and look out because she is fierce! So fierce that the original version of the song could not contain her wrath. Enter HQ2(Hex Hector and Mac Quayle) and Hand-bag-totin' Junior Vasquez. Here Houston's Diva-esque vocal and lyrics come to a full boil. Hector/Quayle turn up the heat with some throbbing beats and dark soundscapes that accentuate the song's retributive nature, giving Mrs. Thang a run for her money. Listen closely and you'll her breathing heavily to the beat. Now while Junior's Millenium Mix is typical of his style, it's his Disco Mix that I really get a bang out of. Everytime I hear the intro to this version I keep thinking it's Donna Summer. Is time travel possible? Or is Vasquez simply showing his age? If I did not know any better I'd be looking for this in the 70's/disco bins at some ol' used record shop. Vasquez is totally on top of his game with this one even incorporating Eiffel 65's "Da Ba De" into his concoction for a reality check for old folks like me:), and Houston,s makes sure she is getting her point across by re-recording some of her vocals for this version. No matter how you slice it this Maxi-Single is a winner.

Whitney is catching on to this remix groove!.......2000-04-05

Fans of Whitney will know that she entered the maxi remix world back in 1996 with Step By Step. There she let Junior Vasquez take a rather weak song and spice it up a bit.

Then came her landmark album, My Love is Your Love. That album had songs screaming for remixes. She did great with three, Heartbreak Hotel, It's Not Right, But It's OK, and My Love is Your Love. Then came, I Learned From the Best.

Keeping the main groove and beat of the song, remixers, Hex Hector and Junior Vasquez transformed this song into a masterpiece.

It is too often that slow ballads don't make great remixes...but this is the exception to the rule.

Junior Vasquez's disco mix takes you back and gets you on the floor. The edit versions are great for those that don't want to listen to 10+ minutes of the same music.

Out of the remixes from this album this has got to be the best. Could there be more coming where this came from? With a greatest hits album being launched in May (with a remix CD included in it) fans of Whitney will have to settle with these. Put it in the disc player, put it on repeat and dance the night away!

This is Whitney's greatest remix since "Step by step"(1996-97). Junior Vazquez always has something to offer, his "Millenium Mix" includes some vocals from "Step by step" and is over 11+ minutes long. HQ2's(Hex Hector) club and dub mixes really rock! The cd also includes a couple of of disco edited versions of the song....It's really a must own! If you liked Step by step, you have to have this one!

the cd is definetly worth buying. the HQ2 radio mix is off the hook and the vasquez radio mix is off the hook. the extended versions gives a different opinion. the extended HQ2 mix is even better but the extended vasquez mix in not as good as its edit.

Another superb Houston's song Club Remixes.......2000-01-31

If you guys are into club remixes like "It's not right, but It's okay", "Heartbreak Hotel", and "My Love is Your Love", you should add this song to your collections. In my opinion, "I learned from the Best", especially Hex Hector HQ2 Remix, was extremely outstanding. It's highly energetic and powerful, a typical remix by Hector. I'm not sure about you guys, but most Whitney Houston's songs (well, at least from her latest album) are okay in their original version; but when they (i.e. Thunderpuss, Hex Hector, Junior Vasquez, Jonathan Peters) remixed her songs, they always resulted in absolutely outstanding, excellent, powerful and energetic peak-hour dance club mixes. In my opinion, Jonathan Peters' remix of My Love is Your Love is simply the best! (I have been listening to this remix song over and over and over again for the past 7 months). But I find Hex Hector's remix of I Learned from the Best is just as good! You won't be dissapointed with this CD, especially if you like all previous Houston's remix releases.

IF YOU ARE A JUNIOR VASQUEZ FAN, THIS CD IS A MUST HAVE FOR YOUR COLLECTION. I THINK THAT THIS IS POSSIBLY ONE OF JUNIOR'S BEST WORKS YET. HE HAS BEEN PLAYING IT AT TWILO FOR MANY, MANY MONTHS, BUT FOR THOSE OF YOU NOT LUCKY ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE IT LIVE YOU HAVE TO BUY THIS. I'VE ALSO HEARD THAT THE HEX MIX IS REALLY GOOD.

If you're looking for a Whitney cd to buy, you've found it.

"I Learned From The Best" is one of Whitney's best songs. In it, she sings in a style that subdues her voice similar to the vocal styling Christina Aguilera used in her song "Beautiful." Only in this song, Whitney is bitter. And it shows.

Also featured is Whitney's biggest hit, and considered by many to be her best- "I Will Always Love You." The song is also the song that alone gave her her biggest selling album- and the biggest selling soundtrack EVER- to date. Rather than including it in its played out version, it's featured in a rare club mix by Hex Hector. The new version, while being upbeat, slows down at crucial points, and gets immensely upbeat and pounding and even extends this when needed. It emphasizes on the entire song's emotional drama and is excellent, although I do prefer the original a bit more.

The other track is the critically acclaimed Thunderpuss remix of one of Whitney's biggest hits, "It's Not Right." This remix was a major #1 hit on the dance floor, and also the track that defined the club charts and made clubs popular. Before this song, no one cared about what songs were hits on the Dance chart or whose remixes were what. On this remix's popularity alone, the song reached a shocking #4 on the US mainstream chart- which is shocking for a dance remix popularity (dance mixes usually go completely unnoticed). Usually, only rap mixes help a song chart. Never before had such an enormous feat occured, and it has not since been duplicated.

The original version of "It's Not Right, But It's Okay" may have been awesome, but the aforementioned thunderpuss mix is 10x better.

The picture on the cover is one of Whitney's most memorable. For the low amount you pay for this cd, you get the 3 essential Whitney tracks you need for your music collection. Buy it now!

This cd is the best cd i have ever brought in my entire life. i loved all three tracks, the remix of It's not right, but it's ok being my favourite club remix in years. but outstanding was the remix of i will always love you. this track loses none of it's original feeling, just combines that with srong club beats and uplifting music. do yourself a favour and buy this one!

"I Learned From The Best" could easily be the best track from Whitney's MY LOVE IS YOUR LOVE album. But unfortunately, this CD single doesn't live up to the standard of the song. I mean, the song itself is worth the value of the CD therefore I see the four following remixes as "tagged on" tracks just to make the single seem worth buying. This single receive 3 stars because of the brilliant track "I Learned From The Best", it is such a beautifully written and produced song which demonstrates Whitney's strong vocal and that she hasn't lost her touch after all these years. The remixes, well, they are all pathetic. It's so 80's dance music and it's so out of date. Junior Vasquez and H2Q should be ashamed of themselves. They could do great remixes but these ain't their best work.

'I Leatrned From the Best' is a great song, but as usual, the remixes on the import are a pale shadow of the original. But Whitney can sure sing....
