Their influences include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, BabyFace, Prince, The Isley Brothers, The Temptations, The Doobie Brothers, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Nat King Cole, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cook and other greats. Each member of this foursome represents a different ethnic background and collectively they possess a Ph.D and four Masters degrees. These facts are naturally reflected in their thoughtful approach to music and lyrical narrative, yet never without healthy street sensibility. Their songs of love and reality tempered by those with a socio-political bent, offer a level of truth that transcends cultural borders. Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

Hard to describe how unreal his voice is @}->---.......2006-01-25

Words fail me when it comes to describing my absolute favourite male singer EVER. This guy has to be heard to be believed. It's incredible how smooth and silky his voice is and his music makes you melt. I was lucky enough to see him live in Las Vegas in 2000 at the Blue Note and I thought I was in heaven. This cd is incredible. Lost In The Night would have to be one of the most beautiful songs in the universe. Can You Stop The Rain is also beautiful and sad. He sings with such amazing emotion and sex appeal. This is a great bedroom cd. The only song on here I don't like is the remake of Soul Provider. I think that belongs only to Michael Bolton. Anyway; if you are a soul fan and don't have this - what's wrong with you? You have to own this and experience this superb talent for yourself. He is unfortunately so underrated, but better than anyone else out there.

When Peabo sings, he doesn't plead nor does he beg, he makes you see things from his point of view, your stubborn heart will eventually melt under his romantic charms, he certainly has a way with his voice, I regard him as one of the premier balladers (alongside Luther Vandross & James Ingram) that the world has ever experienced.

With a Peabo album, you get more than you deserve - a quality album & his words of wisdom which you'll find on the CD inlay.

All tracks on this CD are of very high standard, what you get is a very refined vocal delivery, it is very difficult to single out a particular track, but my favourites on this CD are the album title, shower you with love, I wish you love, you don't have to beg, if it's really love & I can't imagine.

For those of you, who will be alone tonight, you need Peabo's album to minister to your heart. Can you stop the rain from falling?

A classic soul voice.......2003-11-07

The first time i heard this album was when i saw it in a record store about 4 years ago here in Amsterdam, at that time i was 18 years old and only knew him from his duet Beauty and the beast with CELINE DION this is realy one of the best soul CD's in my collection, it opens very softly with the song Lost in the night and becomes more and more a powerful lovesong especialy with the bridge in the middle The title track Can you stop the rain is probaly one of the most beautiful lovesongs of the early 90's and the album just go's on and on being not only good for those romantic moments,but also for listening to it with full atention with a headphone on and just listen to the soft soul clasic voice of Mr. Bryson. The album also contains a cover of the Michael Bolton classic " Soul provider" a title that fits this CD. If you are into Vandross than you'll sure like Bryson!

Peabo Bryson's most beautiful CD........2003-06-14

One of the master singers of the soul ballad at his best. Every song on this CD is a gem and "Closer Than Close", "Shower You With Love", "If It's Really Love", "Lost In The Night" and the hit title track are among the very best songs Peabo ever recorded. This CD revived Peabo's career and is an excellent choice for helping to set the mood for a romantic candlelight dinner for two.

Classy piano.......2004-05-11

This is piano music of the highest order - catchy tunes and flawless performance. I couldn't buy this CD from Amazon so I bought it directly from Shellwood.

Excellent tunes, excellent performance.......2003-10-10

Billy Mayerl, Lothar Perl and Carroll Gibbons are not exactly household names, and they probably never will be. Mayerl wrote over 500 tunes and was the director of the light music division of the BBC. Perl, among other accomplishments, was the music director of the Ernie Kovacs show and was occasionally on camera. Gibbons was an American pianist/composer/bandleader who achieved fame in England.

This music is melodic, varied and highly catchy. My favorite pieces are "Hollywood Stars," "Grasshopper Dance" and "A Garden in the Rain." Hassan's performances are, as always, top notch and right in character with the era. Incidentally, I bought my CD directly from the Shellwood Productions website.

The best interpretations of Mayerl yet.......2003-05-19

Billy Mayerl was an extraordinarily gifted and prolific composer in the "novelty/syncopated/rhythm" piano style. Alex Hassan plays this music with consumate grace. Thanks are due to Shellwood Productions for producing such a high quality CD; check their website for more offerings from Hassan.

I don't know why this CD is only listed in the classical section: it should also be listed in the popular music section. The music of Billy Mayerl and Lothar Perl has never been played so well, not even by the composers themselves! Bravo, Mr. Hassan!

Can You Stop the Rain, has the sounds and romance of the great 50ies rhythm and blues groups; yet,it has the sounds and romance of today. For young and old alike. Timeless. My only complaint,it is a single. Looking forward to hearing more songs.

This song reminds me of the way music used to be done. It has an infectious rhythm and clever lyrics. I find myself humming this song regularly. I also added this song to my love rotation in my cd player. ENJOY!

This is by far one of the best new-r&b/soul singles i've heard in a long time. Stereotype, intricately blends soul, rock and rhythm for a sound that takes you for a trip down memory lane. A great mix of soft and sultry ballads paired with untouchable harmonies, lands "Can You Stop The Rain" on my top 10 list.
