Whether Tom Cruise's portrayal of a 19th century American soldier cum samurai warrior will be remembered with the same pangs of pop-cultural bemusement that befell John Wayne playing Genghis Khan remains to be seen. But its musical soundtrack does mark an auspicious occasion: pop musician-turned-composer Hans Zimmer's 100th score since beginning his film career in 1988. A pioneer of fusing both the electronic and orchestral and the Westernized with the indigenous, Zimmer does both here with skill, drawing heavily on samples of the traditional Taiko (a massive Japanese drum) for its rhythmic action sequences, while constructing a melodic Western motif for Cruise's character that's both centerpiece and counterpoint for the score's transcultural intent. Aside from the brief, ominous thunder of the expected action/suspense boilerplate, Zimmer has constructed passages of gentle, Asian-inflected pastoralism that have parallels with much of his evocative work on The Thin Red Line. Those cues are the score's very soul, a canvas against which his more traditional themes reverberate all the stronger. --Jerry McCulley

If you liked Dances With Wolves this is it in Japan - I do think it is Tom C's best movie. The sound track is excellent - Zimmer also did Batman Returns which has a fantastic soundtrack - Hans is comming on

A Diverse Score from the Land of the Rising Sun.......2007-03-02

I always love it when composers branch out and write music that you would never expect them to write, yet retaining their own trademark sound. Here, Hans Zimmer utilizes his own, recognizable sound, where you know it's him with eastern instrumentation, such as Taiko drums, the shakuhachi (a staple in Horner scores lately), and the koto harp. It's east meets west, a route in which Tan Dun took on in the film "Hero", and Zimmer's score follows many of those same musical ideas, only not quite as eastern sounding as Dun's score.
The main theme is a powerful 7-note anthem which tends to build its way up each time, as in "A Way of Life", "Spectres in the Fog", "Idyll's End", and "Safe Passage". You can tell it is a Zimmer theme just by its sound, but with the oriental flavor thrown in, it really adds to the mix.
The action music in the score is exciting with energetic Taiko drums keeping the pulse moving. They do not get tiresome, as you might think because Zimmer uses them more like a heartbeat, not a heart attack! "Red Warrior" is a powerful anthem, consisting of japanese warrior chants, which really add to the scope of the sound. Other noteworthy tracks are "Ronin" and "The Way of the Sword", which are enjoyable pieces of music.
I was pleased of the results of Zimmer's work here. It showcases Zimmer's diversity with his music. I hope he gets the opportunity to write more diverse scores such as this. The Da Vinci Code is certainly one of them!

This soundtrack is brilliant, and Hans Zimmer even more. He is truly one of the great film composers. The Last Samurai's sounds never fail to draw emotion from me.

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

First off, Stan Rogers has not been served well by the cover art for his recordings which misleadingly spin your mind into the direction of some 1950s time capsule. To have tradition in mind is not misplaced, and Roger's work certainly observes traditions. But he shouldn't be regarded as something unearthed from an archelogical site. This is definitely my favourite from the Rogers' catalogue, and I remember the pangs of sadness at the news of his early death. 'Northwest Passage' is a perennial winner; that big voice in premium fettle. There's a healthy choice of Roger's writing on show, the ballads, the shanty feel, the domestic observations of,'Lies' a very beautiful and tender thing. It seems the baritone register finds it harder to crack the pop idiom, and I can think of other fine voices(David Wiffen and Joe South spring to mind) that don't get the reach they deserve.'California' is another song I find on my lips when the spirit(Rogers') moves me. All in all, a great disc. If machismo writer of mid-western sagas, Jim Harrison, were singer/songwriter, he'd be of the Stan Rogers cut. Try that for size!

Song Excellent/Album not really my thing.......2007-01-10

To be honest I bought this for the song Northwest Passage only. I had heard it around 12 years ago played in a bar whilst I was in Canada. Finally managed to find it and bought it from the Amazon US site which turned out to be cheaper than Amazon UK even taking account of postage to UK! Anyway, my family may have connections with John Franklin the explorer who is mentioned in the song hence the reason I bought it.

I like the song Northwest Passage a lot and I'd give it 5 out 5. The other notable song is The Field Behind The Plow but to be honest, the rest of the album is a bit too Country and Western for me.

I first heard the song "The Northwest Passage" back in the early nineties on public radio, but I missed out on the artist and album identification. After over a decade of searching, I finally tracked down the source of that song on Amazon. I bought this album for that one song, but was pleasantly surprised to find the other songs on the album were excellent folk songs too. Most heartily recommended for any folk music afficionado.

I can be sweet and good and nice...........2007-03-11

Next to "Indigo Girls," this remains my favorite CD from Amy and Emily. From "Three Hits" to the elegiac "Cedar Tree," the emotional weight of "Rites Of Passage" seemed greater than any of their other records. As much as I liked Dire Straits' original version of "Romeo And Juliet," Amy's raw exuberance won me over to their cover for keeps.

They also kept up their social barometer. The pro-peace "Galileo" (with harmonies from Jackson Browne and David Crosby) called for nuclear disarmament during a time when protest songs weren't a particular norm. "Jonas and Ezekiel" prays for peace in the Middle East (funny how that problem remains as timely now as it did in 1992). There is also a line in "Let It Be Me" that rings out as pure folk:

"The President has no good idea
of who the masses are.
Well I'm one of them among my friends
trying to see beyond the fences
of our own backyards."

The political and personal mesh throughout "Rites Of Passage." "Ghosts" is a beautiful love song that cries for tolerance. It probably ranks among my favorite IG songs. "Chickenman" and "Airplane" also explore their Southern Roots (I could have sworn "Chickenman" was an REM song the first time I heard it).

The re-master on "Rites" is first rate as well. It brings out the definition of the acoustic instruments. "Romeo and Juliet" now explodes from the stereo. While I also have to admit, I really don't think the live cuts add anything to the CD as a whole. I will continue to recommend "Rites Of Passage" as a pinnacle in the Indigo Girls' career.

A MUST have for every collection!.......2006-08-26

Beautiful music, intelligent lyrics, what more could you ask for. I first heard this album at the tender age of 14 (I am almost 30 now) while I was working at a music store. One of my coworkers was obsessed with this album and kept playing it in the store. After awhile I realized I was singing it at home and school, and I bought myself a copy.

I love music, and own an uncountable number of CDs. But I think I can safely say THIS CD is my favorite of them all! The lyrics are intelligent and elegantly crafted, the music is moving. Galileo (with it's make you think factor) is my favorite song on the CD, with a romeo and juliet coming in 2nd for it's humor factor. Ghost can make you feel emotions stir at your very core if you have ever lost a lover. After 16 years of hearing Ghost, it can still make me cry.

This CD is great for taking in the car, especially on long drives. Do yourslef a favor and get this one.

Yup, this is the album I'd choose to listen to if I had an hour of consciousness left before dying. It's that good. And if I only had five minutes? I'd listen to "Love Will Come To You"... and happily expire.

best indigo cd .......2005-11-22

This is my favorite Indigo Girls cd because it was a mainstay during my college years and a lot of fond memories can be associated wih it. Indigo Girls have incredible talent and they work together beautifully to make some lasting songs. My favorites include Romeo and Juliet (from AC/DC's hit), Love Will Come to You, and Three Hits. Galileo is the most popular song on the CD and is very soothing. The Indigo Girls also have other great CDs such as thier single Closer to Fine, and Swamp Ophelia but this CD is the best for an introduction to their music. I hope you enjoy.

I need to make one point thought. Amy Ray has never needed to "catch up" with Emily Saliers as a songwriter. She wrote six of the ten songs on the famous "Indigo Girls" album including "Secure Yourself", "Kid Fears" and "Tried to be True", all classics. She also wrote "Strange Fire", "Welcome Me", & "World Falls (Nomads, Indians and Saints), all great songs. If anything, Emily needed to catch up to Amy on "Rites", not the other way around!

A nice mixture of moody and high energy tunes.......2007-03-26

This 1980 album really surprised me with its vitality and freshness; an amazing feat given the year of release. Although I may be a bit too fond of the albums released during the "Jaco-years", I feel that Night Passage sits comfortably alongside the excellent jazz rock albums Black Market (1976) and Heavy Weather (1977). Come to think of it, Night Passage also forms a nice bookend to the definitive works released by the band during the 1970's.

The lineup on Night Passage is fantastic and includes Joe Zawinul (synthesizers, electric piano, and acoustic piano); Wayne Shorter (soprano and tenor saxophones); Peter Erskine (drums); Robert Thomas Jr. (hand drums); and finally, the great (late) Jaco Pastorius (fretless electric bass guitar). Although the performances by all members are fantastic (especially those by Wayne and Joe), I need to single Jaco out here: his playing is simply breathtaking on Night Passage, particularly on the "live in the studio" track Port of Entry. His gymnastics on the electric bass seem to temporarily suspend the laws of physics: he pulls off (I am guessing here) 128th note triplets with ease - let me put it to you this way, he can play really, really fast. More importantly however, his playing is also very sensitive and thoughtful on Night Passage, which is actually a very quiet album. He had an incredible ability to play the perfect (single) note; really listened to what the other musicians were playing; and his use of harmonics and false harmonics made everything richer and more...resonant.

The eight tunes on Night Passage range from 3'55" (Forlorn) to the lengthy 10'56" closing track Madagascar. In large part, the pieces alternate between those with a great deal of energy (Night Passage; Port of Entry; Rockin'in Rhythm; Fast City) and slow, moody, and synth heavy tracks (Dream Clock; Forlorn; Three Views of a Secret; Madagascar). There are also a few bouncy and catchy melodies on the album (e.g. Night Passage); bebop (Fast City); and even a big band sound here and there (Rockin' in Rhythm) - for the most part however, this album was written somewhat in the vein of Heavy Weather, albeit a bit quieter. I have to confess though, that as a huge prog fan, the dark and vaguely experimental track Madagascar is a personal favorite.

I really wish that this album was remastered. There are a few dodgy moments in the sound quality and the liner notes are pretty skimpy.

Well there you have it. Night Passage is a great album and is recommended along with Black Market and Heavy Weather.

The reason I have said overlooked is because it seems that when ever people mention Weather Report everybody thinks Birdland and its album Heavy Weather. I think that Heavy Weather is definitely a classic but I think that Night Passage holds much more for the listener. The tunes are a return to a more jazz rooted style. The title track is a cool laided back shuffle type groove with Jaco turning up the heat towards the end. I think this album will please the Jaco fans greatly. The second track is Dream Clock which is a ballad very similar to Heavy Weather's A Remark You Made with Jaco making the theme statment on his frettless. Supposedly Zawinul was trying to convie the passage of time through the night,slow at first and dream like and then fast after midnight. This album is just that. The tunes increase in speed and intensity as the album progresses. My personal favorite is Shorter's Port of Entry which contains one of Jaco's best bass solos.Shorter goes back to his days with the Miles Davis Quintet with his solo on Fast City a up tempo swinger by Zawinul. They cover Duke's Rockin in Rythmn and it smokes. Overall I would say you can't go wrong with this record especially if you already dig Weather Report. check this one out!

A Sleeper Masterpiece.......2006-03-02

I know. Someone shoot me for the pun. But about this time in Weather Report's career, 1980, co-leaders Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter were starting to exhaust their creativity within the colorful, funky, world-music styles that had characterized their previous album and the classic sound of the 70s. As a result, they had to search for inspiration outside of the style, and came back to their roots. Weather Report had always been jazz in its approach and the mentality of the musicians, but this album was the first since "I Sing the Body Electric" in 1972 in which they were predominantly jazz in the stylistic sense. Thus, "Night Passage" is the most conservative of all Weather Report releases in that it looks back to jazz of the 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s as inspiration, which ironically gives it its freshness given the historical context; fusion was undergoing an identity and popularity crisis at the time, so a return to where it came from was a positive thing. At the same time, Zawinul in particular had the experience and the technology to approach older styles in new ways and color them differently. The result is a more jazz-oriented effort in which any of the quirky directions that characterize Weather Report can come out at any time to remind the listener of how current the music still was. The best example is the title track, a heavy shuffle that swings hard and takes interesting yet almost traditional harmonic turns until about four and a half minutes when a haunting climax builds a foreboding tension against the sunny groove. It's an absolutely brilliant twist.

But the best part of this album is the last 17 or so minutes. Jaco Pastorius' "Three Views of a Secret" is a beautiful tune in a more classic jazz style yet with all the contemporary harmonic knowledge included and completely done up Weather Report style. Then "Madagascar" is an 11 minute live performance which documents the most creative, enjoyable, subtly funky (music can in fact be funky without heavy rock rhythms) group improvisation in Weather Report history. Finally, Jaco decides to be a team player and really digs in.

A warning to Weather Report fans: those of you who love the "classic" sound of Black Market, Heavy Weather, and albums of that period will initially be bored with this album. Given its nature, it's much more subtle than those (still great) albums. It's still Weather Report, but they choose not to hit you over the head with it this time. It took me three or four listens to really dig this music, not something I'm used to with Weather Report. I didn't like it initially, but it has grown on me since I've opened my mind to it, and I would almost go so far as to call it my favorite. Buy it and let it grow on you too.

I bought the CD since it had one of my favorite songs on it. I did not know most of the other songs, but I have really grown to like them. A lot of these songs are not played on the radio. I am glad that I bought this CD since it has introduced me to other great songs by Authority Zero. If you like this band this is a really great CD!

The only reason this album doesnt get 4 stars is cos there is some filler. No doubt.

The good songs on here though are really really high quality. Over Seasons was the first Zero song I heard, I loved it.

Its harmless yet meaningful music. Its kinda ska I guess if you're trying to categorise it, but its varying degrees of punk and general rock misxed in there.

The reason you buy this album is for the following songs:

The only complaint is that I have different versions of "A Passage In Time" and "Sky's the Limit" on my computer...I like those versions better and I think they should've been put on this CD either with or instead of the other ones. These guys are awesome live, too. Check them out and buy this CD!

Erik Wollo's works are overlooked gems of modern instrumental music. From his home in Norway, Wollo's been sending out missives of mood and ambience since the mid-1980s with albums like Silver Beach and Solstice. Last year's U.S. release of Guitar Nova explored the acoustic-guitar side of this musician in multilayered, overdubbed soundscapes that retained the ambience and structure of his electronic works. With Wind Journey, he returns to synthesizers but keeps his electric guitar at hand for some gloriously heroic solos, especially on "Dream Line." A subtle, tugging ostinato pattern builds into layers of keyboard orchestrations topped by guitar, which starts out in a pastoral, acoustic mode but segues into a soaring lead solo that recalls Steve Hackett during his Spectral Mornings era. Wind Journey is centered by Seasons Suite, a 10-part sequence of moody vignettes. Erik Wollo's roots in progressive rock are clear and he uses them to articulate a cinematic music. While Wollo lives in a country with some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the world, he composes much of his music in a basement studio. Ambient music that takes me far, far away!.......2003-04-24

I have purchased cd in the summer of 2002. Back then, all I could think of doing was listen to 88.5 on the radio and hope that they will play music from Erik Wollo. The first song I heard was "Dream Lines". The music didn't seem familiar to me at first. I didn't consider it really ambient but it turned out that it was. After listening to it, I was into it very much. I never heard such a song played like that before and I knew it was something I would like. Wollo plays the guitar in a way that the sound echoes in my head and makes me feel like Im somewhere far and distant. In a short time, I heard "Wind Journey 1". That was amazing. After I listened to it few more times, I was into it so much that I couldn't help buying it from Amazon.com. Just about every beat and sound seems to echoe as if it was played outside where nothing surrounds you and where the music can travel and be heard. Listen to the samples and decide. Buying this cd is something to consider.

What a surprise and completely different from the last CD.......2001-09-27

The last Eric Wollo CD featured wonderful virtuoso guitar, most closely akin to a "fingerpicking" style. Each piece was different, almost like a "best of" CD. This CD is completely different in that the artist uses the guitar as part of a series of thematic atmospheric tone poems based on the idea of wind and its forms and effects. The overall feel of the music is very ambient, with the guitar used less as a melody-maker, and more as a symphonic, electronic instrument, almost like a timescape. The orchestration includes atmospheric electronic soundscapes within which the artist creates mood music of the highest quality. I was absolutely fascinated by the CD on first hearing it, and it only gets better with each re-playing as I discover new nuances to the music. What a master of the guitar this man is. I highly recommend that you take a listen to this CD, and take a journey into the wind with Mr Wollo. This is a thinking person's delight!!!

Fans of Georgia duo Indigo Girls are dedicated to this act for very specific reasons: there's the rare (bordering on brilliant) harmonies and counter melodies, the seemingly effortless acoustic guitar playing, and a host of emotionally cathartic lyrics that make the listener feel like they've been reading someone's diary. That said, the Girls reached a point around the time of this album where opening up their souls for song perhaps felt less appealing than general storytelling. Does that make the music bad? No, but it is decidedly different; 1992's Rites of Passage comes off more as a musical jam than a night alone in front of a campfire. The Roches, Jackson Browne, David Crosby, and Lisa Germano all contribute to that effect, providing a musically interesting but perhaps emotionally less challenging effort than some of the duo's earlier works. --Denise Sheppard

A MUST have for every collection!.......2006-08-26

Beautiful music, intelligent lyrics, what more could you ask for. I first heard this album at the tender age of 14 (I am almost 30 now) while I was working at a music store. One of my coworkers was obsessed with this album and kept playing it in the store. After awhile I realized I was singing it at home and school, and I bought myself a copy.

I love music, and own an uncountable number of CDs. But I think I can safely say THIS CD is my favorite of them all! The lyrics are intelligent and elegantly crafted, the music is moving. Galileo (with it's make you think factor) is my favorite song on the CD, with a romeo and juliet coming in 2nd for it's humor factor. Ghost can make you feel emotions stir at your very core if you have ever lost a lover. After 16 years of hearing Ghost, it can still make me cry.

This CD is great for taking in the car, especially on long drives. Do yourslef a favor and get this one.

One of my favorite albums ever.......2005-10-10

It should be a rite of passage for every person to listen to this album from the Indigo Girls. I really love every song on this CD.

Three Hits is a nice enough start, with great lyrics and rhythms. But then we go right into Galileo which is one of my favorite songs. The harmonies are gorgeous, the melody is great, and the lyrics are just so engaging. Is there meaning for the fears we have? Why do people maintain their superstitions? How long till my soul gets it right?

But that's not enough - Ghost is incredibly poignant and is a song that got me through many rough times. You can sing along with it at the top of your lungs, knowing that the Girls knew exactly the pain you feel. Those smooth harmonies are just brilliant.

It keeps going. Joking is another pain-and-angst song, shouting back your anger and sadness at an ex. Love will Come to you has the most amazing visuals in it, me myself with my face pressed up against love's glass.

Romeo and Juliet has just the right amount of attitude in it, for a twist on the classic tale. Even the "later songs" on the CD hold their own. Chickenman is one that seems bizarre at first listen, but has the most catchy tune you've heard in a long while.

Highly highly recommended!

_THE_ essential Indigo Girls album.......2003-10-03

I just saw on Amazon's "Essential CD's" section that they didn't have "Rites of Passage" on it - that's so wrong! If you get only one CD by the Indigo Girls (that isn't "Retrospective", which gives you a smattering of songs from all their albums), get this one. It is them at their most beautiful, folky, gorgeous melodic period. (Happily, I had the privilege of seeing them perform both acoustically and plugged-in during that period.) Admittedly, "Swamp Ophelia" is a very close second, though. THe strongest tracks on "Rites" include, but are not limited to, "Ghost" and "Galileo". They're just great. Get the album - and "Swamp Ophelia" too, while you're at it.

I am a huge music fan. I have had this CD for years, and recently popped it in for the heck of it while cleaning my house because I hadn't listened to it in a few years. How could I have forgotten? When it got to Romeo and Juliet I froze in my tracks. Never in my life have I heard a more emotional recording. It is the closest thing to perfection I have ever heard. I swear that after recording that song that they must have had to send in a janitor in to mop up Amy Ray's guts because they were all over the floor.

This CD is amazing and beautifully recorded. The lyrics blend perfectly with the music. I encourage you all to rediscover this CD, and if you don't own it, rest assured that your money will be well spent.

Every song a winner.......2001-06-28

This is my favorite Indigo Girls record. Unlike some of their other albums, every song here is a winner. While it does not quite have the energy of their debut release ("Indigo Girls") it is a more open and approachable album, both acoustically and in terms of thematic content. It has a number of beautiful songs, like "Ghost" and "Cedar Tree", yet these are performed levelly without being cloyingly sentimental or preachy. It also has some songs like "Joking" and "Jonas and Ezekiel" which really rock without being as "in your face" as some of Amy's songs from other albums (e.g. "Come On Now Social"). I can listen to this album endlessly.

Any devotees of Enya and Loreena Mckennitt will be delighted by Celtic Passage. Wonderful vocals and gentle, flowing music, though not quite with the passion the other singers display. Still, well worth getting.

With over a dozen albums to his credit, Andy Narell has almost single handedly popularized the steel pan in contemporary jazz. While long associated with the Caribbean and Trinidad (where the instrument was invented in the early 1940s), Narell has made the subtly nuanced tones of the instrument a compelling presence in jazz (in much the same way that Toots Thielmans popularized the role of the harmonica). For his latest set, with its music for a steel orchestra, Narell traveled to Paris where he called upon the large steel band ensemble, Calypsociation. His writing celebrates the sweeping textures of the assembled players, and creates dazzling platforms for the featured soloists (Michael Brecker , Paquito D'Rivera, and Hugh Masekela). In particular, Brecker--no stranger to a wide variety of settings, genres, and idioms--shines on his numbers, especially the relaxed balladry of "Song For Mia." The highly percussive nature of the music is given full flower by the presence of a solid core of drummers. --David Greenberger

Well, it is definitely Andy Narrell, but not his best. A bit too much of the same as before, but missing some of the spark and input from islanders which could be seen on his albums with David Rudder etc. Not bad, but still waiting for Andy to produce something "new" and inspired!

I have listened to samples of his other CD's after purchasing this. He has successfully mixed steel band with jazz. I never get tired of listening to this CD. I hope he would record another very soon. I love it. Don't hesistate to buy this.

Essential steelband music.......2005-03-26

The highlights on this album are the first & last tracks, being quintessentially Trinidadian steelpan playing, very much
in the mode of Ellie Manette - music I grew up with. Which is not intended to diminish the tracks in between - which are also a joy to listen to. Accomplished playing and brilliant recording - unlike my old Trinidad RCA Victor vinyls of the 50's.
If you have any interest in pan music this is a must-have.
