Editorial Reviews
"Let everything that has breath praise the Lord" (Psalms 150:6) has a special meaning for Brandon Snider, David McCollum, and Scott Laney, better known as P150. Five years ago, God began to orchestrate events that would eventually bring the three guys together. From the same small town, but different backgrounds, these talented young men found a common interest - praising God. Driven by their passion for God and their desire to sing, they united to form a group. All three bring a unique personality to the trio to make P150 a diverse, yet unified group.
P150 encourages its audiences to be bold in their faith, to never compromise their beliefs, and to stand up for Christ. This attitude and their personal testimonies inspire P150 to write a majority of their songs. They use their music to witness to Christians and non-Christians with lyrics that lift up the name of Christ.
Concerned with the trials and struggles that plague today's youth, P150 focuses its ministry primarily on reaching teenagers. This desire created a vision for a teen center in their hometown. In the summer of 1997, P150 founded The Loft (Love Of Fellow Teens), which is a gathering place for their city's youth. Visited over 20,000 times by teenagers, The Loft's impact on the community has been tremendous.
P150's debut album, "Open Your Eyes," was recorded at facilities in Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; Johnson City, TN; and Huntsville, AL. The three members of P150 also co-produced all twelve tracks on their album.
Although P150's musical style is similar to that of secular artists 'NSync and Backstreet Boys and contemporary Christian artists Plus One and True Vibe, it is really like no other. P150 brings a mix of Pop/R&B and traditional contemporary Christian music and twists it all together for a high-energy, God-centered, soul-stirring experience.

An outstanding collection of Rutter's hymns.......2005-11-22
This collection includes many of Rutter's church hymns recorded over a period of 20 years performed by The Cambridge Singers, a group of Brits, that are conducted by the composer. Ergo, these performances must be considered definitive.
Many of Rutter's popular hymns are included here. "O be joyful to the Lord" and "All things bright and beautiful", a popular children's hymn done here by adults, follow "Wings of the morning" on tracks 5-7. Others you may have performed in church represented here are "O clap your hands", "Lord make me an instrument of your peace", "For the beauty of the earth", "Look at the world" and "The Lord bless you and keep you" among the 21 assembled hymns.
While The Cambridge Singers, on their Web site, identify themselves principally as an a capella group, I was pleased when I received this CD to find all the hymns supported by a full orchestra, the esteemed City of London Sinfonia. The renditions are uniformly lovely although some listeners may find the singing a bit on the white side lacking brilliance and individuality. Everything is done in keeping with Rutter's score markings and style.
The recording tends to be a little variable given the 20-plus year difference in performances. The most recent copyright listing is 2003, the same year "Wings of the morning" was published. I don't hear an appreciable difference in that recording than the others but still hear some age in older works.
If you seek a Rutter hymn collection you can't go wrong here. You have wonderful English performers mated to the composer in his more popular works. I'd recommend this without reservation to anyone seeking this collection.

Long a favorite of amateur choristers, John Rutter's three-movement Gloria is by turns touching and thrilling, alternating soaring vocal lines with contemporary harmonies, catchy rhythms, and the power of the Phillip Jones Brass Ensemble. The premiere recording, with Rutter himself conducting his Cambridge Singers, is filled out with 10 of his short anthems, including the sprightly "O Clap Your Hands," the serenely beautiful "A Gaelic Blessing," and "The Lord Is My Shepherd" movement from his Requiem. --David HoriuchiAlbum Description
Gloria: The sacred music of John Rutter. Contains the Gloria, a seventeen minute work that is one of our continous best sellers. Other titles are some of John Rutter's most popular anthems.Customer Reviews:
Glorious!.......2005-10-05
--Music--
The Gloria is a piece in three movements. The Philip Jones Brass Ensemble performs with the Cambridge Singers and soloists Mary Seers, Mary Hitch, and Caroline Ashton. This includes organ music and timpani/percussion. The Gloria is one of Rutter's earliest works, written as a commissioned piece for an American group (Voices of Mel Olson, Omaha, Nebraska). The three movements are reminiscent of standard symphonic structure. The outer movements are more boisterous ('make a joyful noise unto the Lord'), whereas the middle movement is more introspective and subdued.
The other pieces included here are anthems, bright and cheery, fully orchestrated and performed with spirit. There are three pieces that are a capella, reflecting Rutter's and the Cambridge Singers' passion for this medium.
--Liner Notes--
The notes include an introduction to the CD by Rutter describing some of the influences and expressions in his composition. Lyrics are included, and where the original is in Latin, an English translation is provided. There is no listing of the performers of the Cambridge Singers, no description of the group, nor biographical information about John Rutter.
--John Rutter--
Rutter was born in London and educated at Clare College, Cambridge. This was where his career as a composer, arranger and conductor began. His early work was with groups at King's College Chapel at Cambridge as well as the Bath Choir and Philharmonic Orchestra. He has worked for the BBC providing music for educational series such as 'The Archaeology of the Bible Lands', until in 1979 he began forming the Cambridge Singers, and has continued a remarkable career of performance and recording as their director ever since.
--The Cambridge Singers--
The Cambridge Singers are a mixed choir of voices, many of whom were members of choir of Rutter's college, Clare College, Cambridge. While they specialise in English and Latin liturgical pieces, they have a wide range of recordings that span from modern compositions (including a remarkable requiem by Rutter) to English folk songs of the Middle Ages. Many are former members of the choir of Clare College and other Cambridge collegiate choirs (hence the name, Cambridge Singers). In the quarter-century since the founding, the Cambridge Singers have produced an impressive body of recordings.
This is a glorious recording!

Afi's Harshest and Least Polished Work; Rage.......2006-10-23
Let me let you in on a little secret; all AFI is good. That's right ALL. Another secret; AFI is my favorite band of all time. Why? I'll show you.
'We are the Ones with the radiating eyes. We are the Ones who have a fire inside. We are the Ones only we can recognize. We've been rejected...'
...and that's the opening for this album, which is AFI's third. It's their harshest, angriest, meanest effort to date, and I don't think they will ever go back to this.
The sound? Fast and aggressive. The lyrics? Fast and pissed off! At one point, Davey's voice audibly cracks with the sheer rage-driven emotion that can't be found on any other AFI. Black_Sails_In_The_Sunset comes close, but it's better in other ways.
'Do you understand what I'm trying to say? Have you ever felt? Ever felt this way? Tainted with rage that you can't drain away or it will cost you your life.'...
...and that's the essesnce of this album. Davey Havok's lyrics are always poetic, unlike any other punk rock band anywhere, but here they trade in some of the band's later elloquence for sheer rage, and the result is an excellent, if slightly unpolished, representation of what the band has to offer.
So, if you like hardcore punk-rock, this is your AFI album.
And as for you who say AFI is not hardcore enough for you, go listen to harder music. If Slayer's Reign_In_Blood don't do it for you, try Converge's You_Fail_Me, or some Pig_Destroyer. But don't down a good band because they're not your kind of music.
For people who can appreciate AFI, and not just hardcore music, see also AFI-Black_Sails_In_The_Sunset, and AFI-The_Art_Of_Drowning. You won't be dissapointed.
PS For people new to AFI, I recommend starting at the middle with The_Art_Of_Drowning.
AFI's best...the AFI that could have been.......2006-07-28
let me start by saying this. if you are a scenester kid who wants some mellow, depressing, self-loathing, and watered down goth lite type of music, stick with art of drowning, and the two follow-ups to that release. this album IS hardcore. great album to play at a super loud volume along with bands like 7 Seconds and Black Flag. perfect example of how hard this one is..the song "let it be broke." you know, the one that goes "i will release myself..." ..that song shreds!
i think i know why afi started to get worse after this. the addition of guitarist jade. i mean black sails is a good album, but with every album after this one, they grew worse and worse until they reached the point where they are today...cheesy enough to be placed alongside green day and godawful fallout boy...the sad thing is, they could have been great beyond recognition if they would have kept going in the direction that this album promised.
again, if you want hardcore/punk get this or anything before it. if your scenester, you probably are just reading this page because you hate it or loved the new stuff so much that you want to get the rest.
Loud, fast, agressive, and pissed off!.......2006-07-15

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence. If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."
Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

Flora's masterpiece.......2001-06-16
A dream band backs Flora, including her husband, Airto; George Duke on keyboards; Flora's mentor, the peerless Hermento Pascoal on flute and keyboards; the great Ron Carter sits in on bass for "san Fransisco River", one of the many highlights (there are so many highlights it's hard to choose). But the young, underrated Alphonso Johnson, on acoustic and electric bass, is the album's secret weapon.
Not only is this one of the great jazz albums of the Seventies (a wildly underrated and misunderstood decade for jazz), this is one of the great albums - period - of th Seventies. This album certainly sits in the Pantheon of my favorite albums of this period. While, over a quarter-century later, Open Your Eyes You Can Fly has well stood the test of time, I think you will also find it delightfully, immediately accessible; it's one of those rare music masterpieces of which both can be stated. Enjoy!
A Jazz-Fusion Classic.......2000-07-17
Each song is a celebration of life and the freedom that can be found, if one opens their eyes to see. George Duke and Airto, among others, add their strong presence to this effort. Purim has an angelic and airy vocal style that endears you to her anthem and music. She uses many resources by accessing her cultural roots, and musical background to brew a stew of Latin-progressive-jazz that defies categorization and genre placement.
The essence and core of Purim's being is found interlaced amongst the musical meandering and transitory complexities of jazz. Freedom, and the celebration that's found in the music, has a firm foothold on this entire session. At times you will hear her singing like a beautiful songbird taking flight, or using her voice as an instrument rather than relating a message through her own words. The music and sound of her vocalizations clearly declare her new found freedom and rebirth into humanity.
Latin music and jazz are not strange bedfellows; they can lay side by side, or conveniently depart to go in any direction without breaking the ties that hold them together. Visually you will see how the concept of this whole project becomes a reality with the all change and celebration going on all around it. The music and words are separate entities, yet they consummate a partnership by making both factors proportionate to each other. Music like this is further proof that it should be acknowledged as a sentient being. It all takes on a meaning and life of it's own with the help of Purim's individuality and expressiveness.
The percussion and strings enhance the listeners experience and give the music a strength and mystical element heretofore not found in other music. What's so interesting and absorbing about this music is they way it changes it's flight so rapidly without ever falling. Progressive jazz normally has odd time signatures provoked by the shouting rock elements. This doesn't happen at all during these sessions. The lead guitar is clear, clean and focused when exploring the electric aspects of the style. All the instruments, along with Purim's lovely voice becoming one with the soundscape, will hold you glued to the speakers until the curtain falls.
Climb aboard, the freedom train is ready to carry you to wherever your heart desires.
