Jumpin.......2007-05-07
Excellent Cd, Joe really does this music justice. If this CD doesn't get you out of your seat then Jack your dead.
Joe Jackson - a standard of the 80's.......2006-11-10
This is a great record-I heard it the first time in the 80's and decided to buy it right away- I held the record for the longest time until I switched to CD. I do recommend to listen to it - a collection of old standards re-engineered for the better.
Jumpin' With Symphony Joe.......2006-11-07
Admittedly I have no idea who is Joe Jackson, apparently some sort of British rock classic (he sings and plays vibes on this album, so they say).
However this is a fine swing album in its own rank, worth comparing to the music of the swing era.
I liked the music of this CD very much, although I must say that the choice of material is quite commercial-minded (it is the Calloway -Jordan brand of swing, jive, jitterbug or whatever the fads were called at the time) so, in addition to recreating the experience, there could have been a bit more of reinterpretation...
There are traces of that on some songs; that's why I bicker and moan at such a worthy effort: it could have been even better!
Still, as an intro to swing era for younger audiences, it may still work just fine.
Great Swing Album.......2006-10-19
Has their ever been a person in rock history that had a more productive 5 year span then Joe Jackson? After putting out two great albums, I'm the the Man and Look Sharp!, Joe follows up with a complete left turn. As the story goes Joe fell ill and during his recovery friends sent him tapes of the big band masters like Geln Miller and Cab Calloway. The music began to make Joe feel better and in true Joe Jackson like fashion he went on to record one of the best post revival big band albums ever. In fact this album helped start the revival and made possible other great bands like Squirel Nut Zippers to have their day. This is a great album, a great swing album, and one of Joe's better works. If you are looking to get into Joe check out Look Sharp (one of the top ten rock albums ever made IMHO). If you ever get a chance to see the man live, please do. He puts on a great show. Buy this album - you will not be disappointed.
fun!.......2004-12-25
Just great fun! And well anyone saying the originals are better just smile and say: i guess ur right but then put up Joe instead, cause they are more fun anyway..

Though it's the "cast album" to the touring Bugs Bunny on Broadway show, which featured a 50-piece orchestra playing to the original cartoons, the real stars here are not the musicians but Carl Stalling and Milton J. Franklyn. As the composers behind the Looney Toons cartoons, Stalling (and later Franklyn) expertly composed scores that borrowed from classical music, popular songs of the day, and the whimsical compositions of Raymond Scott. Working with talents like Chuck Avery (the most musically adventurous of Bugs Bunny's directors) and voice actors Arthur Q. Bryan (Elmer Fudd) and Mel Blanc (virtually everybody else), they created some of the best-loved music of the century. They also introduced classical music to new generations through their loving reenactments of Rossini's The Barber of Seville (as "The Rabbit of Seville") and, amazingly, the entire Ring cycle (condensed to seven minutes in "What's Opera, Doc?"). Not as expansive as the two volumes of the Carl Stalling Project, Bugs Bunny on Broadway nevertheless is a fine collection that concentrates on an oft-overlooked legacy of Bugs Bunny and company. --Randy Silver
Customer Reviews:
Not For Purists.......2004-09-22
If you have an ear for the original recordings, then this collection is not for you. On tracks like "The Rabbit of Seville" the switch from the original soundtrack to the modern re-recording is both jarring and unsatisfying. If you loved the "live" show then this may bring back some memories for you. If you want to hear the original performances of the great music from Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies, I recommend "The Carl Stalling Project" instead.
Cute CD for Looney Tunes fans.......2004-04-03
Sure, it's not for everyone's taste but no fan of Bugs or Daffy can be without this CD. Outside of the famous 'Merry Go Round Broke Down' and Merrie Melodies theme the Looney Tunes cartoons are well known for paying tribute to and parodying classical music and there's loads of that behavior to be had on this CD. The popular song 'What's Up Doc' is also featured here and there's just enough of Daffy Duck included to keep me happy. Hard to come by but worth getting if you can pick it up cheap.
Oh, the memories this brings back!.......2003-03-05
I never thought I'd hear some of these again. At their height, the Warner Brothers studio used classical music very cleverly in their animations, and this compilation gives us a sampling of the best. About the only thing that made me not give it the full five stars was that it didn't have the excellent "Daffy's Rhapsody."
BRILLIANT AT THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE; THE CD IS JUST AS GREAT.......2002-03-12
I just had the incredible pleasure of seeing this production, conducted by George Daugherty, at The Sydney Opera House. If the week of sold-out audiences were any indications, it's "adult kids" who really love the classic Looney Tunes cartoons. Ordered the CD immediately from Amazon when I got home, and have relived this magnificent production over and over. The music is as incredible as the animation, and Carl Stalling's incredible collaboration with the brilliant Chuck Jones is even more evident when one is just listening to the incredible orchestral performances of these spectacular scores. With the death of Mr. Jones, this CD is even more of a memento of a brilliant golden age of American animated cinema. As we say down here "downunder," it's a bloody ripper!!! (And that's a supreme compliment in Australian!!!!)
Bugs at the Bowl.......2001-07-14
Oh what joy there is in Bugs Bunny. Santa Claus came down the chimney last Christmas and left a beautifully wrapped gift with my name on it underneath our Christmas tree. A CD? For me? Yes, it was. I listened entranced and recaptured so many happy memories of my favourite Chuck Jones characters, all brought vividly to life in George Daugherty's brilliant Bugs Bunny on Broadway. But that wasn't the end of my dreams come true. I was lucky enough to see Bugs brought to life again at The Hollywood Bowl. Rush out and buy this joyful CD - then do your utmost to catch a live performance when it's next in your city.

Album Description
This is the debut album from the sultry and ever swinging Ms. Wilde and her Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra, a sweet blend of 16 world-class musicians who specialize in the raw, earthy big-band rythmn & blues of the 40's and 50's. This is music from the special time before strict boundaries were drawn between jazz, blues and r&b. Combining the drive of swing and jump-blues, the hot soloing of jazz, and the sublime vocal stylings of Lily Wilde, the Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra appeals to dancers, listeners and all fans of timeless music played by great musicians.
Customer Reviews:
Take me back to the forties!.......2006-12-29
Lily Wilde and the orchestra have obviously been listening to a lot of Buddy and Ella Johnson over the years. They have their horn driven r&b sound down! Lily even sounds a bit like Ella on occasion. The band stomps and swings while Lily's voice floats over the swinging rhythm section. Songs like "Mr. 5x5", the old tune about Jimmy Rushing and "work baby" by Louis Jordan sound like they were written by her. Great musicianship, great arrangements. Great record. Wish I could see them live!
Rockin' Horns!.......2006-12-14
From the first note of the first track, you know that you are in for a swingin' ride. The charts are great, and the musicians are top-drawer. If you're a horn player....you're going to be jealous that you weren't selected for this recording session!
Lovely lady, lovely music!.......2005-08-10
If you like swing, this here's the thing. Fans of Lavay Smith will be pleased with what they hear. I have been a fan of Lily's for a while before I purchased her CD. I haven't been sorry since. Wonderful music with a lot of energy. I just wish she would play the east coast more often.
Lily Wilde swings!!!.......2005-05-06
This is a wonderful cd. Great arrangements played by a fine orchestra, and of course, the vocals by Ms. Wilde are as good as it gets. The only complaint I have is that this is her only recorded work that I can find. It's that good.
Great jazz and blues big band swing!.......2004-02-13
This CD is one of those sneaky surprises waiting out there in the swing music scene. Striking out from Portland, OR, Lily Wilde has produced a phenomenal album of big band swing, perfect for listening and dancing. Backed by the full Jumpin' Jubilee Orchestra, Lily Wilde lays out a series of tracks that capture the swingin' feeling of the big bands of the 1950s, like Billy May and Count Basie. It's jazzy swing with the soul of the blues...in other words, the genuine swing article, not some rock band that just stuck on a few horns and called themselves a swing band. Lily Wilde knows her musical history and knows what she likes, and that means you're guaranteed to like it as well.
Lily Wilde's voice is supremely soulful and powerful, reminding a bit of Ella Fitzgerald and Helen Humes (one of Count Basie's best female singers), but separate enough to have her own identity. She does a great job with such swingin' classics as "Mister Five by Five," "Work Baby Work," and "Oh Babe!" (my personal favorite cut from the album). These all swing smooth and very danceable, and should get a whole room of picky swing dancers jivin' and wailin'. I also enjoy the humorous "Rip Van Winkle." Lily slows it down and gets soulful and torchy on "Since I Fell for You," (the best slow number on the album) and a beautiful version of "Stormy Weather."
The band itself swings hard in a very Basie-like style, sounding like the legendary "Atomic" band from the 50s. This is most noticeable on a stand-out, mid-tempo instrumental, "Go Ahead and Rock." It's an infectious piece.
The only flaw in the album is the one bad track among the bunch, and ironically, it's the title track, "Insect Ball." The band swings fine, but the electronic manipulation of the voices and the silly lyrics cripple it. Unfortunate -- but how often do you come across an album where every track is great?
This still counts as a five-star swing recording for me. Swing fans who haven't heard Lily Wilde need to get their hands on this gem while it is still around. It's guaranteed to get you dancing again after you've worn out all your "Swing Session" albums.

I love these guys!!!.......2007-01-02
At first I did not know anything about LAGQ. I was taking an intro to guitar class on the campus of USC. One of my assignments was to attend two guitar performances happening on campus and write about each. I was so fortunate to have picked LAGQ. I fell in love with their music and their humor. I was amazed by the variety of sounds coming out of the guitars. Although guitar playing is a hobby for me... these guys inspire me to study the guitar more seriously. This is the first album of theirs I bought. Their rendition of Shenandoah is the best. It is so beautiful I fall asleep to it. Simple Gifts is the most lovely version too. Jumpin' at the Woodside is another favorite... it jazzy bounce makes it a popular choice for background music to any situation. The Main Street Electrical Parade never fails to delight me and surprise my friends when I play it. These guys are silly...but in a good way. Its 2007 now and I still go back to the songs on this album. Great variety. This is a good starter to a LAGQ collection. Go see them live if you can!!!
Excellent album.......2004-11-23
Recently I learned about LAGQ and bought this album. I have been impressed by the arrangements and interpretation, the texture, innovative touches and originality. It is a treat!
This is only a warning.......2004-09-19
The LAGQ are fine players, and the music here is first rate as a summary of what they do, or for any purpose. HOWEVER, the transfer to CD on my disc was very poorly chosen, so that the top octave and a half was mostly missing (worse on some pieces than others, though). This takes the snap! out of guitar strings and notably attenuates your ability to tell what the 4 are doing with guitar timbre and the like. So, if you have wide-range audio gear, you might want to look elsewhere for an introduction to these players.
Recent Purchase that I'm Joyed to Find and Enjoy.......2001-01-27
Not until recently did I know about this guitar four. Hearing a number of their songs on internet classical radio, I decided I'd try this one.
What a great surprise --- their arrangements of Copeland to Sousa to Praetorius are excellent and in taste. I'll be venturing into their other works.
Simply Amazing.......2000-06-12
LAGQ is wonderful and this CD is a great compilation of some of their best work to date. Extremely versatile musicians, they perform swing music, Sousa march music, a Main Street Electrical Parade tune from Disneyland, as well as music by Copland and Praetorius. It's amazing how they are able to produce the sounds they do. A great compilation and one that would nicely add to your LAGQ collection or a great CD to start that collection!

Classic Disco........2007-05-13
This was one slammin' disco album. I love the track "Keep on Jumpin'". It gets you hype to no end. This album ranks in the top 5 disco recordings of all time in my book. I was glad to finally have gotten it on compact disc. Sounds pretty good to.
SUMMER LOVE: THE BEST DISCO SONG .......2006-01-14
At the moment you play "Summer Love" you'll traslate to a 70's Disco Floor, It's an amazing sound, Really this is the best creation of Patrick Adams, Not only for the lyrics, but for their incredible music and chorus. All songs in this cd are amazing, the best for a 70's Disco Party style. This is I think has been the best music in ever times. New generations should listen this cd and understand what is real good music , maybe the violence in our days can stop by listening this cd.
This Music Defined some of the Best Times of My LIFE!.......2005-06-18
Oh man I heard the samples of this CD and felt 26 years younger for an instant. Like Scrappy the squirriel says as you get older those flashbacks to your youth don't last as long as they used to but man it was intense and like so worth it. I brought this CD soon as I heard Summer Love. Man this whole CD blew the Wolf's hair back to the 70's.
This was music back when it was not all about killing everything that moves. Back when music was upbeat and fun. This was rea; Music before crybaby rapper's whining for sex. This was music before whimps who think singing about carrying guns and posioning neighborhoods with drugs make them a men. This was music about love before rude stupid self absorbed people turned music into a self hate fest.
Granted I am an old gray cummudgeon now. Some must admit rap is great and focued on life enhancing messages. I did like Tag Team Whoomp there it is after all. My musical heart will always be solidly in the 70's disco era however. If you loved the days of disco, polyester leisure suits in every wild color imaginatable, bell bottomed of course and plaform shoes this music will take you right back to the day.
Just listen to a few of the tracks on this sample list and it will take you back to the day and things you have not felt or thought of in years will flood back. This CD is a tonic for the tired soul. Get ready to cry tears of joy on hearing this CD. Words are insufficient to the task of defining the true joy this CD will bring you if you were part of the disco day or just want to see what the 70's were all about.
Take care all PEACE from an Wolf Wolf who loves ya baby!
STILL CLASSIC AT STUDIO 54 *****.......2005-05-10
I was an underage teen when I first got into Studio 54 in New York City, it's a priceless memory. I remember I wrote down the major songs that first night in July, 1978, on the inside cover of Studio's matchbook, which was just plain without a logo, black laminated and white on the inside jacket: "Keep on Jumpin'," Patrick Juvet's "I Love America," Karen Young's "Hot Shot," and "I've Got Eyes In The Back of my Head" by Patti LaBelle, and two songs that played while Liza and Halston sat above the crowd in the D.J. booth, "Last Dance," Donna Summer, and "I Can't Stand The Rain" by Eruption.
The next summer at 54, it was "Pop Muzic" by M, the extended version of "Miss You" by the Rolling Stones, and Claudja Barry's "Boogie Woogie Dancing Shoes." But in 1978, THE song was "Keep on Jumpin'", which, at Studio, trumped "In The Bush," against the backdrop of the SunGod drop, the Crescent Moon with eyes lighted and swinging with the lighted cocaine spoon, and the unforgettable yellow and red deco columns of light descending and ascending to this soundtrack, a symphony of Joy!
Can you imagine? No sex, no drugs, just the intoxication of this? It was...

Fine Melodic Rock.......2005-08-31
I purchased Jumpin` the Gunne in 1973 when it originally came out. It is a fine album of melodic rock. Thirty two years later , I still listen to it when I`m in the mood for high energy music. Time is the great test and Jumpin` the Gunne still rocks. In fact, all the Jo Jo Gunne CDs are worth owning.
Real Biker Rock to Candy StreetCar Rock.......2005-05-02
Why did Jo Jo Gunne tail off in popularity following their first big release with the hit Run,Run,Run? Hard rock bands really liked the sound of that hit and those type of guys were the folks that really supported it. Some of the other songs on that album rocked, but from there the band adopted more of a pop, southern california teenybopper sound rather than the tougher hard-driving sound from RunRunRun. There were exceptions but Jo Jo lost it's focus on the more serious sounds. I mean bikers dug "Run" but they couldn't hang with much of the rest Jo Jo Gunne put out. Sure it rocked, but it was candy rock as opposed to the real gritty stuff.
Awesome CD from a sometimes forgotten band.......2004-12-05
The first thing that must be said is that Jo Jo Gunne needs to get much more respect than it gets. This is a Hard rockin' CD that needs to be had by any 70's rock fan. My personal favorite on the CD is "High School Drool". Spend the bucks to get this one!!!
