Sé Que Estás

About the Artist
Diana Nieves, known as Diani, is a contemporary/pop Christian singer whose CD has just been released. Her CD is entitled “Sé Que Estás”, meaning ‘I know You’re Here’ and is composed of 10 songs, eight in Spanish and two in English. The music in her CD varies in style which includes merengue, pop, ballad, rap, and rock, with the purpose of reaching different audiences. She has ministered in the following places: the Dominican Republic, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and locally in various Pentecostal churches and has invitations to sing in Connecticut, Costa Rica, and Madison, WI. Her dream as a little girl was to one day record and to her surprise her dream came true when she visited the Dominican Republic for the first time.

At the time, her brother was dating a Dominican, and her brother along with her family decided to go and meet the young lady’s family. One person they met on this trip was the young lady’s brother-in-law, Samuel Ortega, a known singer in the Dominican Republic. When he heard Diana sing one of the songs she had composed entitled “Clama A Mí”, meaning ‘Call Unto Me’, he told her he felt from God to help her record. This was the green light that Diana had been waiting for from God who promised her a sign to let her know the right time to start recording. So at the age of 20½ Diana recorded her first CD entitled “Sé Que Estás”, in the Dominican Republic. The words of her biological father, Carlos R. Nieves, Sr., who told her at the age of 6 she was going to become a singer, did indeed come true. She worked diligently on this project, investing in herself, and believing that if you work hard to obtain something one appreciates it more than if one obtains it easily.

Singing is not the only thing on Diana’s agenda, but she is also a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee majoring in Electrical Engineering and an intern at Wisconsin Electric. This talented young lady is trying to balance both singing and engineering and hopes one day to unite them, if possible, by becoming an Audio/Recording Engineer. Whether it me both interests combined to form one career, both individually, or one vs. the other only time and fate will reveal to her the path God desires for her.

Great Addition to My Collection.......2006-10-29

Jordie Savall and Hesprion XX do it again. I've yet to hear a CD of his that I didn't love. Most of my collection of 15th-17th Century music is English, French, German, and Italian, and I am happy to see the Spanish masters taking their place alongside them.

Beware Redundant Collection.......2001-11-07

Don't get this CD. Instead, get "Music for the Spanish Kings," also from Virgin. The latter has two disks for the same price, and one of them is identical to "Viva Rey Ferrando." The booklet in "Viva Rey" is bigger, however, and includes the lyrics.

Secular Renaissance music from Italy and Spain is really delightful stuff, and Hesperion XX or XXI is a top notch ensemble.
