If you are a Eurovision fan, this is a must and simply a 'must have'. the CD itself is made up of glorious nostalgia with an history of the Song contest. I am enjoying this as an album that i listen to every now and again and find it very refreshing. Superb !

I'ts a great compilation, memories in heartbeats,in a special
sound of music,and special voices,each year a song, a great boom bang a bang,singing la,la,la, when un jour, un enfant non ha l'eta and all kinds of everything remember a Waterloo without puppets on the string and un banc, un arbre ,une rue seems to say
What's another year?.Tu te reconnaitras in this CD and apres toi
someone will play with a poupee de cire ou de son or will fly in the wings of love.Excelente disco,maravilloso suena el español con la madrileña Massiel y el italiano con Gigliola Cinquetti.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT COMPILATION, BUT TWO WINNERS MISSING.......2001-03-11

If you like Eurovision Song Contest, this one's for you. Although it includes most of the winning songs, two of them are missing: Si la vie est cadeau (Corinne Hermes,Luxembourg, 1983) and "Vivo Cantando" (Salomé, Spain, 1969, when no less than four songs tied and won the prize). Other non-winning songs are included, but maybe the selection should have been different (I mean, more songs that came second...What about "Le dernier qui a poarle" from France 1991, which scored the same points as the winner, but came second due to the rules of the competition? Instead we have Baccara's "Parlez Vous Francais" which, although I must admit I like it very much, only was 7th in 1978). All in all,a great album at a great price.

With the reservations noted in the other reviews (one winner absent, a (very) few different versions included - most notably to American ears the jazzier "Volare"), this remains an excellent snapshot of the Eurovision song contest. It's great that they included a pair of excellent runners-up and I can't really hold it against this collection that a few nonsense songs pop up among the winners (blame the judges, I guess). Included among the performers are Cliff Richard, Abba, Celine Dion, Sandie Shaw, France Gall, Bucks Fizz. The sound is great and the packaging is nice, and the price certainly is friendly for an import. If the Eurovision contest interests you, or you're interested in a decent overview of multilingual Europop for the last half-century, this CD is a worthy purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Great starter Eurovision compilation.......2000-11-18

This double cd set is an essential addition to any Eurovision collection. It's quite cool in that it contains all the winners and nothing but (well, except for "Parlez-vous francais" and "Congratulations.") Oh, and there is at least one winner left out, but details, details.... Luckily the worthy additions that in my opinion should have won their respective year are very good. The former is actually the French version which is cool, because you usually encounter the English one. To be honest, I had most of these songs on other compilation cds, but I was especially pleased to hear a few of the songs you're harder pressed to locate, i.e. "Dansevise", "Merci cherie", "Een beetje" and "Un jour, en enfant." I also like the livlier version of "Volare", the Norwegian version of "Let it swing" (La det svinge) and "Love Shine a Light." My only complaints about this compilation is that "Si la vie est cadeau" from '83 is missing, and the version of "L'oiseau et l'enfant" is just awful (I'm not sure if it's a re-make or what, but take my word for it, that it's simply heinous). Happily many of the original language versions are included rather than their often times vastly inferior English ones, i.e. "Diggy-loo, diggy-ley", "La det svinge" (as I've already mentioned) and "Ein bisschen Frieden" ("A Little Peace") -auf englisch- appears on some other compilations). The inside liners are in Swedish, so "om du kan svenska" you'll have no problem. In summary, I can highly recommend this compilation, and I think it's a great place to start in the quest to find all Eurovision compilations available.Lycka till! (Good luck)John Eason
