About the Artist
The name "Sonbeam" comes from two phrases: "son of God" and "beam of light." After growing up in Jamaica, Sonbeam worked live shows stateside with Dub Station, arguably one of the top U.S. bands. In a world where vocalists are skittish about committing to any one producer, Sonbeam agreed to record several of his tunes which had worked live and been developed with Dub Station on the "Get it Together" CD. Highlights include "Mama" to all the mothers, and the laid back title track. "It's all good!"
Product Description
As a reggae backing band, Dub Station has a history of working with various artists. Sonbeam was the first to collaborate with Dub Station on creating a spotlight featuring his unique & conscious singjay style over all-original beats ranging from an r&b sound to traditional nyabinghi Rasta drumming behind Jah-I, also recorded on the CD. This new, shorter format of just 7 songs allows for better pricing and a quicker production turnaround to bring you fresh songs. Enjoy!

Customer Reviews:
Fabulous for any Broadway-lover.......2007-01-30
Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.
Top Shelf.......2007-01-04
This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.
TERRIFIC CD'S.......2006-03-23
THESE BROADWAY MUSICALS CD'S ARE A BROADWAY LOVERS DREAM. WITH EACH SONG, MEMORIES COME FLOODING BACK. BOTH THE FAMILIAR AND THE FORGOTTEN SONGS ARE A TRUE LISTENING PLEASURE. IF YOU LIKE BROADWAY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS SET.
Great Collection of Broadways greatest Songs .......2005-06-14
This Collection was perfectly made it has almost all the most famous Broadway songs on this 5 cd set. The Music is great and has Broadways greatest treasures like "Memory""People""With One Look""Give my regards Too Broadway" just to name a few of this numerous cd set with over 100 songs. This is a great buy if you like musicals or The music of Broadway
Great Compilation!.......2005-01-17
If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Just Cool!!!.......2006-07-11
This album is so much fun to listen to. I heard his second album first and you all know how sexy and sensually charged that one was. So, I was expecting that with this album. When I didn't get that with this album, I was really disappointed with it, so I put it away for a long while. Then, for some reason I pulled it out and gave it a listen. Man, I was wowed by this album. This album is sexy, fun, silly, just wonderful. Man, I'm glad that I bought this one. Too bad this album got overlooked by the masses cuz this is really a good record and has many treats all the way through. But, oh well...
Cool.......2003-09-14
Pete Belasco's CD is one I recently discovered. For as good as it is, it's amazing that this is his only release. I described his sound as "what if Ramsey Lewis & Burt Bacharach joined the Beatles to form a jazz group." While Pete is certainly not the Beatles, this sound is unabashedly retro. The opener "All I Want" is a marvelous perky tune with Christian McBride's pulsing bass making a joyful noise. Another of my favorites is "Love Train" with Pete sounding like Smokey Robinson, "You'll be writing love letters in the middle of the night." "Thought it over and you & I should live together," Pete sings on "All in My in My Mind" with McBride's bass again setting a soft soul groove. "Dirty Deed" sounds incredibly like Belasco's piano was channeling Ramsey Lewis from the "Wade in the Water" era; it's one that'll have your head moving and your toe tapping at the same time. Belasco's songs, all of which he wrote, are melodic, soulful, and happy. This 1997 disc is a great blast from the past, one not to be missed. Enjoy!
Way fabu-who knew my husband was so groovy?.......2003-04-23
My husband heard Get it Together on WFUV in NYC-found the CD used on line and play it constantly. Every track is fantastic-it's positivly slinky. Plus the kids love to dance to it, too, (so I guess 5 year olds do have taste beyond Barney). But I, too, await more news from Mr. Belasco-especially a tour? Play it and they will come, Pete!
A Lounge Stunner.......2002-03-21
I've had this CD since '98 and it's still on my playlist. The tunes have the kind of hooks that keep you hummin'. The jazz is on the light side, the vocals smooth as Michael Franks and cool as Miles on Kinda Blue. Pete, when do we get to hear some more?
"Get it Together" truly has it all together........2002-01-24
I'd have to agree with all the listeners who previously reviewed this cd, as it didn't get nearly any of the recognition that it deserved; Although a NY jazz station gave "Love Train" a lot of airplay, which is what attracted me to the cd in the first place. The remainder of the cd is so infectiously "loungey", you just feel compelled to shake up that perfect martini and share it with your favorite squeeze. I can only hope Pete Belasco continues on with a follow-up. Anxiously awaiting -- jm

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence.
If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."
Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Mixed feelings.......2005-10-05
This album has some GREAT songs on it; sophisticated swing being one of my favorites. However many of the other songs are too operatic and lame. I give three stars but this album is definatly worth it just for some of the better songs.
Your love for this superb collection will be here to stay..........2002-07-18
The magnificently talented Michael Feinstein has made one wonderful album after another for nearly two decades. Now that Elektra and Rhino have put together this anthology, I am blown away by the versatility and diversity in Feinstein's recorded output. Such amazing rare gems, combined with the most beloved favorites in the history of American Popular Song. Assembled with wit, intelligence, and obvious affection on the part of the record company, this set is a keeper. You'll love it!
He's done it again.......2002-07-15
Is there anything this man can't sing? This collection is so varied as to be the definitive collection of songs for any occassion.
This is perfect background music for a dinner party for a whole group but especially for two. Light, romantic and just gorgeous. You just can't go wrong when Michael Feinstein is your musical choice.
Way to go Michael, you've done it again!
Absolutely 'S WONDERFUL!.......2002-06-10
There are very few contemporary performers who can hold their own with the truly great interpreters of American popular song. Michael Feinstein is truly the ONLY performer of the "younger" generation who really understands what these songs are all about. His incredible knowledge of this music, and his enthusiasm and passion for it have fueled his career. Rhino Records has done a truly outstanding job of putting together an anthology that exemplifies why Mr. Feinstein has become so beloved by audiences around the world. The packaging is excellent, and filled with interesting photos and background information about many of the selections.
This collection not only contains all the favorites one would expect, but a neat group of surprises too. I especially love the duets with people like Liza Minnelli and Rosemary Clooney, and the various collaborative efforts with songwriters like Jule Styne and Burton Lane accompanying Michael at the piano.
This collection is a classic to be treasured. Bravo Michael!
Bravo Rhino!
A beautiful 2 disc CD-another hit for Michael.......2002-06-09
I have every CD Michael has ever made and this is by far one of the best ones because of Michael's range in singing and his wonderful singing voice. I love his duets with Rosemary Clooney and Liza Minelli. He is a wonderful performer on this double CD and am looking foward to the next CD.

Customer Reviews:
One of America's great songwriters.......2001-03-09
Amid the Cole Porters, Irving Berlins and George Gershwins of the world, Harold Arlen tends to be forgotten. And yet, when the greatest song of the 20th century was recently voted on by a distinguished panel of critics, whose song came out on top? Mr. Arlen's (Over the Rainbow). Here is a superb cross section of Harold Arlen songs by a cast ranging from Judy Garland to Bing Crosby to Ethel Waters, spanning decades and spanning a wide range of styles, from jazz to ballads, poignant to funny. Although the sound is not ideal, as many of the recordings date from the 30's and Pearl's objective in remastering has always been to achieve the fullest musical sound rather than to reduce surface noise, this is a minor complaint given the rich and mind-opening selection of great music found here.

Lucid dreaming? .......2007-02-13
Oh, please! I guess it depends on your idea of dreaming.
If you enjoy dozing off with the electric blender on high, then you've gotta place this in your bedroom.
Seriously -- the musicianship is highly competent, and there is an obvious commitment to the entire production. But this CD is not dreamy.
The album title nails it: "Rhythmic FISSION -- digital revisions of classic trax."
A Dreamy Listening Experience.......2004-06-01
This music is ideal accompaniment for lucid dreaming...Some of the tracks are loud, fast, and flashy ("Chasing Bartok" track #1, "Machines" track #10 come to mind) while others are fragile and soothing ("Addio Del Passato" and "Espirito"). Any one of these songs would be a superb compliment to a movie soundtrack--they all have this movie-dream-type quality to them, whether the movie/dream is creepy, beautiful, sad, or just plain experimental electronic music. Tracks 12-14 are heavy on vocals: Track 12 is very similar to the enigma song "Beyond the Invisible", while "I would Kiss You" makes me think of Loreena McKennitt with a dash of techno-renaissance flair, and finally "New World" has its good moments, but sounds a bit Disney-esque. "Addio Del Passato" and "Espirito" are the best tracks on the whole album; they sound like the ideal Anne Rice movie soundtrack selections, with "Addio" serving for any goth-vampire-opera-or-nightclub scenes, and "Espirito" for any childhood flashback scenes (hey, that's just what it sounds like!)...
If you've heard the "Verve Remixed" CDs, then I highly recommend buying this CD as well to help balance out your jazz with some classical. Plus the music is brand-spankin' new. So give this CD a chance.

Group Smith CD not so good.......2007-05-02
Bought one of these Italian remakes on an auction site for $30, shouldn't have paid more than $3 for it. It is not remastered and the quality of the audio is the worst I've ever heard on a CD. To sum it up, TERRIBLE. I've learned there is another version of this CD which IS digitally remastered and includes five bonus tracks. It's a bit hard to find but worth the hunt.

Customer Reviews:
Light hearted, fun, poignant, charming. Highly recommend........1999-04-01
Including songs from the light hearted and fun to the poignant, this CD is a treasure that should not be missed by those loving the classic Broadway musical sound. Two voices (Karen Ziemba, currently Roxie Hart in Chicago, and David Garrison, currently in Titanic) and a Steinway piano partner in this recording, and the blend of Ziemba's and Garrison's voices is perfect. The versatility of Ziemba's voice throughout this recording is most impressive, In addition to being an extraordinary dancer, Ziemba once again proves herself an exceptional singer. Garrison is terrific as well. If you like "darker" musicals, avoid this. But if you want to hear an up-tempo musical score that will make you tap your toes and if you want to hear two voices that can be listened to again and again with the same initial pleasure, get this recording.

What??????.......2005-08-25
I honestly don't remember ever hearing such a homogenized album. Every song except for one has pretty much the same feel, and I just couldn't get anything out of that one song anyway. Even when rock 'n' roll is simple and fun, there's at least a modicum of honest emotion in there somewhere. Not here (at least as far as I can tell). I had a bandmate who just loved this album, though it might have been out of obligation- he said it was what rock 'n' roll was "supposed" to be. Since when was rock 'n' roll about doing what you're supposed to do?
Great name for a garage rock band..........2004-11-13
Great name for a garage rock band. Nothing ground breaking from this Atlanta band but they're decent garage rock and the singer has a strong angry voice with good energy. The Forty Fives would be a good opening band for Jet.
45's (out of a hundred).......2001-08-18
I bought this record with no knowledge of the 45's what-so-ever. Cover looked cool, song titles like what I thought to be the Doors informed "Drinking with # 3", and a fairly glowing reveiw sticker allowed me to plunk down ... for this album. So what do you get? Well, nearly every song speeds at a fairly rockin' but not swinging, pace, lyrics are standard " she's no good. gotta get outta this place" fare, drumming is fast but non descript, instrumentation unremarkable. The singer aint bad, but sings nearly every song in the same sort or urgent style. A 45 out of 100. You may get in the mood for this every once in a while, but don't spend ... bucks on it.
I give it a four!.......2001-03-24
I recently saw The Forty Fives open up for Southern Culture on the Skids and I was unexpectedly delighted with their sound and even more so for their energy. There are no musical revelations on this recording but it did yield some fun, catchy and energetic tunes. This CD is not recommended for music elitist of the likes that have written scathing reviews on this page but for those who want something new that runs at a different pace.
Come on, this really is awful.......2001-02-10
well, well. this is a band that has permiated the wonderful world of atlanta rock with a stench that is somewhere between poison and backstreet boys. I can not wait for this awful group to disband...because they should. And they should also apologize to every person that has been in earshot of the out of tune instruments and poor drumming that flows like sludge in the sewer.
