About the Artist
North Carolina’s Phillip Bryant is creating a buzz with Gospel music lovers all around. He has truly accomplished the task of delivering God’s message through song. The allure of Phillip’s unique and soulful sound stems from remarkably fresh songwriting and melodies that are powerfully original. These qualities explain his growing popularity with youthful audiences. His debut project will prove to be a powerful refresher in music.

Phillip – North Carolina’s best-kept secret is a mastermind in songwriting and is truly a vocal gift from heaven. With talents that showed evident at the tender age of 4, he has an unmistakable gospel anointing with his uniquely clever style of songwriting, arrangement, and performance. At just 8 years old he was singing and accompanying with musicians twice his age. Now at the age of 20, many know him as a talented vocalist, pianist, and composer who has shared the stage with Marvin Sapp, Men of Standard, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Kevin Bond, Clyde Tibba Gamble, and The Clemons Brothers. Phillip also served as Music Director for Cheryl "Coko" Clemons formerly of the world-renowned group SWV.

Today, he is stepping out from behind the scenes and sharing his vocal prowess. His delivery blends vibrant youth and divine inspiration with his worship and praise tunes. There’s more to come from this God-sent talent. He is diligently working to showcase his extraordinary gifts in his upcoming musical project.

The adventure of a live Phillip Bryant experience invariably mesmerizes audiences and brings them to their feet. High energy gives way to hushed silence when he delivers beautiful melodies with vocals that captivate and inspire. His accomplishments leave no doubt that he possesses an anointing and talent that is lasting and worthy of acclaim. Keep you ears open!

Product Description
Gripping vocals, ingenious lyrics, and top-notch production are the meat and potatoes of Phillip Bryant’s debut effort, Gracefully.

An urban, inspirational christian album capable of leaving fans shaking, hip hop lovers with their jaws on the floor, christians quivering, and r&b lovers feeling fulfilled, Gracefully is as pure and emotional as it gets.

With thick layers of instrumentation, in-your-face voice and a tender ear for sophisticated urban poignancy, Bryant is able to combine the smarts, and sincerity of Fred Hammond with the boldness of Usher. All while crafting a tightly produced, hook-laden urban christian album appealing to r&b, hip hop, gospel, and christian fans alike.

To put it another way, Bryant’s Gracefully takes you to a place where you are left spiritually uplifted. The premises has been vacated, and you’re left feeling the after effects, knowing God showed up, reminiscing of how you felt the first time the Lord rested upon you.

Though, even with a dark, moody atmosphere looming overhead, a bit of sunshine cracks through the clouds and promises that tomorrow will be better. And the day after that may find you shaking the dust off and picking yourself right back up.

Here is an album that boasts optimism, and has plenty of it. It has situations that any and everyone can relate to. This is the album you always crave after the dark times seem to be setting in. This is the genius of Fayetteville, North Carolina’ Phillip Bryant.

4 out of 5 stars Another from Mr. Zellar.......2006-06-05

For those that have been a fan of Martin Zellar's before the Gear Daddies break-up and beyond, this album will not disappoint. It is also a great starting point for newbies.

Zellar does not stray far from what has worked in the past, yet many of the tracks are refreshing. I have spent a-many long Minnesotan summer nights by the campfire with MZ & GD albums playing in the background.

This is just another chapter in a near-legendary career. File with artists such as Wilco, Jayhawks, Peacemakers, Pistoleros, Golden Smog...

5 out of 5 stars Scattered is by far Martin Zellar's best work to date.......2002-06-19

"Scattered" is a masterpiece! It has a good blend of uplifting songs such as "Here's to Everyone" to sad songs like "What It Is I Feel." This album is similar in its style to Born Under. Martin Zellar has definitely matured in his musical style from his Gear Daddies days. The lyrics express emotions that are real, however painful they may be. "What It Is I Feel" has got to be the most heartfelt song of a man dealing with his feelings I have ever heard. The influence of the likes of Neil Diamond and Bruce Springsteen are clearly apparent in this album.

5 out of 5 stars The best yet..........2002-05-07

and that's saying something.

Martin Zellar is one of the most underappreciated and talented singer/songwriters around. It is a shame that everyone hasn't had the opportunity to hear his work, first with the Gear Daddies, but especially with the Hardways.

The album flows wonderfully together as a whole, each song highlighting the band's musical abilities and Zellar's affecting vocals and lyrics. From the first song, "Here's to Everyone," to the disc's standout tune, "What it is I Feel," a moving and heartbreakingly honest portrayal of one man's inner turmoil, to the album's closing track, "Always Be Friends," this is one CD you won't tire of quickly -- and it gets better each time you hear it.

If you are already a fan of Zellar's, you will love "Scattered," and if not, you will be after hearing this album.

"Scattered" is by far the most fully realized and mature work this band has released and I can't wait to see what comes next!

5 out of 5 stars Another gem.......2002-05-07

Martin Zellar is slowly but surely building a catalog of material worthy of Bruce Springsteen, John Hiatt, Paul Kelly and other outstanding singer-songwriters who can distill elements of the human experience into elegant 3 minute songs. It's been 4 years since Zellar's last studio album, but it was definitely worth the wait, as this disc represents his strongest album since his grossly under-rated debut solo CD, "Born Under". The first 5 songs on "Scattered" may represent the best collection of songs that Zellar has recorded to date. Zellar continues to tackle issues of the heart and home, and like Springsteen and Hiatt, approaches them from the perspective of a mature adult (rather refreshing in this day and age). And the many years of playing in bars in the upper Midwest has paid off for the Hardways in spades - you can hear the cohesion and precision in the music generated by this crack 4 piece band. The music itself veers away slightly from the country-tinged sound of Zellar's previous CD's and exhibits a more modern, more rock-oriented style. And some noodling in the studio pays off big time in tunes such as the mesmerizing "Summer Song". Definitely one of the best albums of this or any other year.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.......1999-03-07

I've always loved Zellar's music. His talent for describing the mundane and melancholy small town life is superb. However, in his latest offering, it seems like the music is forcing the lyrics - instead of the other way around. In my opinion, the true greatness in Zellar's music was in the way the lyrics flowed - telling a story - while the music seemed to fit in perfectly around the lyrics to enhance the total effect. Sadly, this is lacking in the "Many Moods." (have a listen to Born Under and several of the tracks on MZ and the Hardways to see what I mean) And perhaps this latest work is a sign that Zellar is maturing as an artist.

5 out of 5 stars Another winner from Martin Zellar & the Hardaways.......1999-01-20

Martin Zellar's 3rd album since the demise of the Gear Daddies is another excellent roots-rock outing. Zellar is a terrific singer and songwriter, and his band the Hardways provide great accompaniment for him to do his thing. This is a very organic sounding album, lots of acoustic and electric guitar, organ, and even horns and strings on a couple of tunes. While definitley a rock & roll album, there is a pronounced (in a good way) country influence here. It's twangy in spots, but this is a good thing, not a cheesey, formulaic modern-Nashville thing. It's a crying shame that an artist with such great, honest work doesn't get more airplay (but considering the crap on the radio these days, maybe that's a good thing). This album should appeal to fans of Springsteen, Mellencamp, The Eagles, BoDeans, Wilco, etc.

5 out of 5 stars HEART-FELT LYRICS AND RUGGED SOUND MAKE THIS CD ONE TO BUY!.......1998-11-12

Martin Zellar brings with him, as always, his heartfelt lyrics and rugged sound, making this cd one to buy. His songs are unforgettable and touching. They songs make you feel as if you've lived them. His work touches a common thread with everyone who listens.

5 out of 5 stars WHAT A VOICE!!!.......2005-07-09

Why are there so many amazing talents with only one album?
She is beautiful with so much brilliance in her voice.
As I have said in many other reviews, there are many overlooked singers on the market, with no one to push them in to the public eye.
Her music, arrangements, and pick of songs makes this an entertaining event. As others have stated already, she can sing anything and sooth your tense soul.
In todays society, we need more of this diversion to remain sane and centered.
Thank you Vann for this journey.. Please give us more!!!

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME.......2002-05-23

I met Vann Johnson a few days ago. She gave me a copy of her CD with a "Message" for me. When I hugged her goodbye I felt this sort of inner peace that you get from listening to her CD. It is an AWESOME CD and she has a sweet, calming voice. I would recommend this to anyone as well as Yanni's "Tribute", in which she sang in. BEAUTIFUL...voice and BEAUTIFUL music. I would like to thank her for such wonderful music.

5 out of 5 stars This Lady Has Some Pipes!.......2001-11-19

Having just been given the "Messages" CD as a gift from a musician friend, I was frankly blown away by both the beauty and the power of Vann Johnson's voice! I should add that, in keeping with my "informed by the sensibilities of the 60's and early 70's" (I am a YOUTHFUL 49) I was likewise thrilled to find a genuinely beautiful woman - as borne out in the album art - who DIDN'T feel compelled to rip off most of her clothing in order to entertain me. Perhaps that is one of the "messages" inherent in the collection: if you "got it" you don't need to shed it. In this instance, Vann Johnson's music, in and of itself, was more than sufficient to engage me -- as well as prompt me to take the time to write this critique; a first-time experience for me.

5 out of 5 stars The best album you've never heard!.......2001-10-17

I first heard Vann Johnson on a Yanni CD and I really loved her voice. When I found this album, I bought it in the hopes that her voice was still strong. Well, I can honestly say that this is one of the best albums I have ever heard. Some of these well-written songs are very touching, including Attention and Forever Yours, my favorites. I cannot praise Ms. Johnson's voice enough, as she really is a very talented and underappreciated singer, a true vocalist that hangs with the best of them. I recommend this album to one and all, and I wish you many happy listenings.

5 out of 5 stars Smooth Voice, Great Music.......2000-12-01

This is easy to listen to, the more you play the CD, the more you like each and every song. Her voice is strong, yet smooth, and the lyrics get to the heart of things. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Rhythmic Background Music.......2005-02-17

Obo Addy is Ghana's musical ambassador. He has shared the rich musical traditions of his native country with Americans much the same way Babatunde Olatunji did with the music of Nigeria. Addy's recordings are eclectic, ranging from afropop to traditional and in this case, new age. "New age" can mean so many things nowadays and "the Rhythm of Which a Chief Walks Gracefully" is new age music of substance rooted in traditional music with hand drums, flutes and the balaphone. A featured instrument is the famed talking drum or Dondo as it is know in Ghana. The recording is a musical tour through Ghana and the songs are named after many of the country's most picturesque places. In "Shores of Elmina," one can almost see the seagulls flying over the old castle. "Evening at Kaneshie Market" paints a picture of one of the nation's busiest and largest markets. As background music, the disc creates a relaxing and spiritual atmosphere. This reverb soaked disc always makes for an enjoyable listen.

    Album Description

Modern pop/rock melodicism is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it is deep, artistic, well-thought-out and musically pristine. On the other hand it plays up to mass appeal, can be drowned out by like musicians and rarely breaks new ground. To play both sides of the sword can prove to be quite difficult and risky. And simple. gracefully tiptoes across this blade in its debut recording by creating airy and grandiose compositions that are both accessible and artistically intriguing. The production work on "In Perfect Disarray," provided by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Stacy Parrish and his bandmates is downright impeccable. So much so that it's difficult to believe that's not a bed of strings on songs like "Forgive Me" or "As If We Care." The standout track, "Ballad of the Beauty Queen," is a rolling, melodic portrait of skin-deep beauty that is unfortunately shorter than three minutes (radio friendly, but not audiophile friendly). From beginning to end, the record maintains a level of quiet intensity, marked by a titanium-strength rhythm section that pushes this group to a level that has already been reached by some of the more memorable pop rock groups of the past 10 years, though simple. arrived there in a much more expedient fashion. To be sure, it pushes nary an envelope. However, it is a strong enough record to make even the staunchest indie rockers lift an eyebrow, if not their chain wallets. Folks who believe there's no local music talent would do well in picking up a copy of "Disarray." If they were from England, they would be a poster on your wall.

      Album Description

The content of Chris Mason's Not So Gracefully belies the title of this exceedingly graceful and wonderful album of lyrically sophisticated folk-rock. The layered acoustics provide a fitting backdrop for Chris' intimate vocals and poetic, honest lyrics. Few Christian artists today achieve the level of excellence presented here.

Chris Mason will turn your opinion of carbon-copy popcorn Christian music upside down. In fact, his lyrics are so introspective and thoughtful that I resent labeling his music "Christian" at all - it's beautiful spirituality. But Mason is not a seeker creating abstract art - he has found his place, a fact which is obvious in his confident guitar-strumming and genuine story-telling. As one of the 13 artists in the independent folk music "gang", The Square Peg Alliance, he is making his mark on the Christian music industry. After all, since when did "Independent" mean "unheard-of"? Let's change this!!!
