1986 has some of the best variety.......2002-08-10

In many ways 1986 was the last great year for pop music. It's just that later on there wasn't as much variety in the Top 40 since it was more normal for one artist to have a bunch of hits, instead of vice versa in the early '80s.

Billy Ocean is a mainstay on the series, but the dance classic "When the Going Gets Tough" is greatly shortened just like his other ones. Soft-rocker Kenny Loggins did have some more upbeat songs, mostly scattered hits like the great "Danger Zone" which is a fitting highway commute song now. Many of the artists here are the same from '85, but the better hits are here. Starship's part ballad "Sara" is wonderful, as it also eliminated needing to own their album. The opening is spliced, but at least all the original lyrics are there.

Mr. Mister's mid-tempo, addictive "Kyrie," the Bangles' funny "Walk Like an Egyptian" and Bananarama's big pop hit "Venus" are good to have in one place. Survivor's "Burning Heart" was only on the "Rocky 4" sountrack so naturally it's a plus. This and tough guy Eddie Money's instant classic "Take Me Home Tonight" are good also because they add some harder rock. You can't go wrong with Huey Lewis' airy "Stuck With You". Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" is still a radio staple but I never liked it much; it's not god-awful, just not something I want to hear a million times.

This is a great collection of hits from 1986. When I first bought this CD I only wanted "Walk Like An Egyptian" but then it turned out I liked most of the CD. "Take Me Home Tonight" is a good song and my favorite now is "Sara". The only problem with this CD is there are only ten tracks there should be more!

Best Billboard CD of all, despite the songs "Stuck With You" and "Venus", the CD can still get 5 stars without those songs. The songs that really make the 1986 Billboard CD a hit are "Addicted To Love", "Walk Like An Egyptian" and "Danger Zone". BOTTOM LINE: 1986 Billboard Top Hits ROCKS! A great CD to share with your friends and family, great way to start collecting Billboard Top Hits CDs'. 5 stars outta 5 all the way, baby! Erik Carr Age 12
