5 out of 5 stars Best from the 70's!~.......2002-05-19

This collection is of the early works of Gino Vannelli. Songs that have been essential to his fans and career are here. Incudes some of his earlier singles like Crazy Life, Felicia, Mama Coco, People Gotta Move, Powerful People, Love Of My Life, Wheels Of Life and his biggest single I Just Wanna Stop. It also includes other favorites like One Night With You, Song And Dance, Brother To Brother, Fly Into This Night and his opus from A Pauper In Paradise, Black And Blue. There is also another popular album track from Brother To Brother called Appaloosa. The only song I wish were on her is Keep On Walking.

He is the Italian macho man an pioneer of electronical music from the 70's. His voice is rich and full. His musical taste are dramatic yet sensual. Lots of Charisma on stage as well. These songs prove it! The time span is from 1973-1979, the A&M years. So missing are the 80's hits and the 90's jazz. Check out Ultimate Collection, as well, for a more diverse collection.

Because Of You, The More I See You, There Will Never Be Another You, Day By Day, Time After Time, we were amazed at how many of the lyrics we remembered. If you are a Chris Montez fan, look no further! This is the CD to purchase! Dave Collins and Andrew Garver of A&M did an outstanding job of remastering these cuts from five of Chris Montez' best albums. Thank you Yoshi Nagato and Shun Okamo for bringing these tunes back to my wife and I, and for making them available to Chris Montez fans in America and around the World and thanks to A&M records for pointing Chris toward cutting these timeless tunes. 5 out of 5 stars Ulra-Loungey- and that's a good thing.......2001-11-03

Chris Montez personifies lounge music in a real "shagadelic"-type of way.

"The More I See You" is hands down the best track in this collection. This is the type of song that once you hear it, it just stays in your head all day and dances around until ya gotta listen to it again. It's infectious!

Chris has got a cool delivery in a very different way the a Tom Jones or Engelbert Humperdink. His voice is perfectly suited for this very loung-ey type of music. Where most crooners belt them out, Mr. Montez oozes them out in a very cool, unique, sexy but unthreatening way. This guy stands alone. Can't compare him to anybody. But I'm a huge fan.

These tracks are hard to find. If you stumbled onto this set by simply browsing around, consider yourself lucky. This set is a solid winner.

And if you are Mr. Montez fan frustrated by lack of product- this collection is definative. It's a smart choice. The track selection is superlative and the sound is great.

        Whatta collection!!!!!!!!!!!!

        5 out of 5 stars Montez's Finest!.......2001-10-19

Normally when I mention Chris Montez the response I get is "Who??". Chris got the chance to record some wonderful songs on Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss' A&M Records. Even though "Let's Dance" was his biggest hit and on the Monogram label I have to say the A&M recordings are better. "The More I See You (#16 '66) is a fine easy listening classic! The rest are good too, don't miss it. Even if it is said he can't hold key well the songs are great.

5 out of 5 stars The best of Montez.......2001-10-16

This is a must for Chris Montez fans and, indeed, anyone prepared to be bewitched by a legendary example of the sounds of the Swinging Sixties.
The technical standard is brilliant, with a rare crispness which brings out every detail both of the voice and of those deceptively simple but mindblowing instrumental and backing arrangements.
The CD is pricey but it has 25 tracks, including at least seven of Chris's monster hits, and is musically worth every cent. The only weak track is, of all positions, the first - a live performance of "Because of You", so ineptly recorded as to beggar belief.

Claudine's early A&M output is well-captured here, with early songs like "Meditation" and "Here There and Everywhere" showing her innocence off to great advantage. As times changed, so did Claudine, getting more playful("Happy Talk")and introspective(the gorgeous "It's Hard To Say Goodbye")as each track required it. Her hardest album to locate--"Run Wild, Run Free"--is barely touched upon, but there are two hard-to-find tracks("Sleep Safe & Warm" and "I Don't Intend To Spend Christmas Without You")to compensate.

5 out of 5 stars Claudine Longet The BEST Remastered on CD.......2002-08-08

Well it took me a while to remember who Claudine Longet is as I was very young and her music is hard to find today. She has that sweet voice you remember from childhood listening through the door at your parents cocktail parties, seeing her with then hubby Andy William's on his T.V show, or hearing her haunting childlike theme from 'Rosemary's Baby'. She sang in the 60's classic 'The Party', with Peter Sellers, and seemed to represent a certain French waif 60's look, a sweetness and style, unique to her. The standout tracks to me on this great release are 'Meditation', 'A Man and a Woman', a wonderful version of 'The look of Love', 'I love how you love me', 'Love is Blue', 'Everybody's Talkin' from Midnight Cowboy, 'Am I blue?' Let it be me',... I love them all...but the best...the la la la theme song from 'Rosemary's Baby' called 'Sleep safe and warm'. I have wanted that for years! Claudine Longet is simply mesmerizing, she has a way of effortlessly making famous songs her own with her unique interpretation. This is wonderful stuff, so forget your worn out vinyl, Claudine's best is finally on C.D. I can assure you this won't leave the stereo. Robert Rechter. AUSTRALIA 2002

5 out of 5 stars Fragile voice that drips with sexual awakening........1999-04-08

What a treat for those of us "Rock Freaks" who secretly lusted after Claudine and her music in the late sixties/early seventies, but never admitted it. She is not Janis, Grace, Barbra, nor Celine; however, her special niche in Pop history is honored in this collection. She especially sets a mood for those who enjoy Julie London, and Dusty Springfield records on a cold lonely rainy night. This collection is a gem, a nostalgic link with the schizophrenic 60's that produced Blue Cheer, Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, and Led Zepplin on one hand, and Claudine Longet on the other. There is no angst or anger in Claudine's honey-sweet, child-like voice; however, she will touch your emotions, and perhaps even bring a smile to your lips. You won't regret indulging on this CD even with its import price.

4 out of 5 stars Part of life.......2005-08-16

I grew up listening to the Sandpipers before I got into Pop music. They were played on conservative radio stations in Australia. My father had some of their music. Later when I was a teenager I listened to them being played over supermarket speakers where I worked. This was in the days when Glen Campbell was the heaviest sound they played, otherwise customers would have been driven out of the stores. I always found them pleasant to listen to, and even appealing. It was curious, as it sounded like good background music, but it was more enjoyable, and never overbearing, pretentious, crass or vulgar, like much music today. (I'll never understand the reason for using swearwords or blasphemy in a song, unless it's to alienate many potential listeners)

Anyhow, the Sandpipers must still have appeal even today, judging by the high price of their CDs. I would have this album just for La Mer (Beyond the sea), but Guantanamera, Come Saturday morning, and others help make it a definite requirement for any good music collection, if your tastes are broad enough to extend that way.

Their music helped to mold me into the peace loving person that I felt I became. So I'm not plugging Amazon nor A&M, merely praising it's value.

I gave it 4 stars because it's that good. It's not up there with the best albums ever, but still something I'd listen to over most music I have, when I want to relax, which is one of the most desired effects. That's why Fleetwood Mac & ELO were so popular.

Best at medium volume, or on low as relaxing driving music.

4 out of 5 stars The easy listening male vocal trio of the late 1960s.......2003-06-10

The Sandpipers were an easy listening male vocal trio (Jim Brady, Mike Piano, and Richard Shoff) who had a couple of Top 20 hits in the late 1960s. "Guantanamera," with its Spanish lyrics translated in a spoken section, made in higher on the Billboard charts (#9) but the song most identified with the group was "Come Saturday Morning" (#17), which was the theme song for the film "The Sterile Cuckoo." The songs personify the group's sound, which were light harmonies sung over the delicate sounds of strings. The group was signed by Herb Alpert to the trumpeter's own label, which explains why in addition to the South American folk song "Guantanamera" there did other songs with a Latin flair, such as "Cuando Sali De Cuba" and "Quando Sali de Cuba." There are also an Italian song, "Quando m'Innamora ("When I Fall in Love") to expand the group's international flavor as well as cover versions of a slew of other hits, such as "Louie Louie," "Kumbaya," "Never My Love," "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart," and La Bamba."

Harry Belafonte and Hector Acosta were two of the group's name arrangers, which was rather surprising, but what I was most interested in learning was that the name of the female vocalist who supported the group by singing wordlessly in and around the group's main harmonies, was named Pamela Ramcier. It never dawned on me that it would be the same singer or that she performed with the Sandpipers in concert. But I have always liked that sound, both on these songs and on the soundtrack of "Once Upon a Time in the West," which is the other notable example of this style that comes to mind. The Sandpipers were not a great group, mainly because their easy listening sound comes across as being one of the main influences on Muzak (a.k.a. elevator music), but the collection of "The Best of the Sandpipers" shows them at their best. If you remember their sound, or at least their hits songs, then you should already know if you would like to listen to two dozen of their tracks.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT MEMORIES FROM THE 1960'S.......2001-07-25

I WAS TWO THE YEAR 1966 WHEN GUANTANAMERA AND CUANDO SALI DE CUBA (WHEN I LEFT CUBA) WERE GOING AROUND THE WORLD. GUANATANAMERA IS THE MOST FAMOUS POEM WRITTEN BY CUBAN JOSE MARTI. HE REFLECTS HIS FEELING OF FREEDOM FOR HIS COUNTRY AND FEELING NECESSARY TO GIVE HIS OWN LIFE, HE DID SO, BUT NOT WITHOUT GIVING OTHERS A WORD OF HOPE. CUANDO SALI DE CUBA IS SIMILAR, BUT THIS TIME THE AUTHOR REFLECTS THE SADNESS AND HURT OF HAVING TO LEAVE HIS HOMELAND BECAUSE OF THE COMMUNIST MOVEMENT MAKING HIM TO LOOSE HIS FREEDOM AND HAVING TO GO TO OTHER PLACES TO REACH HIS FREEDOM, BUT KEEPING IN MIND TO GO BACK TO HIS HOMELAND LIVING IN FREEDOM. THESE ALBUM CONTAINS VERY WONDERFUL SONGS, SOME OF THEM IN THEIR ORIGINAL LANGUAGE, THIS IS THE CASE IN GUANTANAMERA, CUANDO SALI DE CUBA AND THE ITALIAN HIT QUANDO M'INNAMORA ( WHEN I FALL IN LOVE ). THE SWEETNESS OF THE VOICES IN THE SANDPIPERS ARE NOT ONLY ROMANTIC, THEY GIVE A SPECIAL FEELING TO EVERY SONG. MAY I ALSO COMMENT ABOUT THE BRASILIAN BOSSA NOVA BY BADEN POWELL LET GO, A SONG THAT LETS YOU SEE YOU ARE VERY VALIOUS TO EVERYONE AROUND. I RECOMMEND THIS ALBUM, BY THE SWEETNESS OF THE VOICES AND FOR A GOOD TIME TO RELAX. ALL THE SONGS ARE VERY BEAUTIFUL AND VERY WELL SELECTED. DON'T FORGET TO INCLUDE IT IN YOUR COLLECTION.

5 out of 5 stars At last I found it!.......2000-12-20

I really wanted it for 'Quando Sali de Cuba' which I loved long ago.My other favourite tracks are 'Quando M'Innamoro','Kumbaya' and 'Free to carry on'.It is gentle soothing harmony. The Sandpipers sing so well in English, Spanish and Italian....I haven't guessed where they are really from! Just so you know...'La Bamba' is sung slowly to a different tune...not the famous one of Los Lobos.

4 out of 5 stars Best (only) anthology of an overlooked group.......2000-09-19

Although the track lineup is a little scattershot, the selections are good and the sound quality is excellent. There are a few desirable album tracks omitted, so the "Guantanamera" CD is a recommended follow-up (or the soon-to-be released "Guantanamera / Sandpipers" 2-on-1 CD), but this CD can stand on its own as well. Recommended also : "A&M Digitally Remastered Best" collections of Julius Wechter & Baja Marimba band, Claudine Longet, and Chrsi Montez. Hopefully more will follow (and how about U.S. releases, A&M?)
