    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars good Halloween fun.......2006-09-22

I was surprised at how good musically most of the songs on this CD are, since most could stand up on their own even if you ignored the Halloween theme. A couple of the songs I could live without, but overall it's quite enjoyable, and fun rather than spooky. I agree with everything my fellow Tennessean below had to say in her good review, so I'll just add that this music is quite mellow too - all soft rock and R & B. A few of the songs have some Halloweeny sound effects or voices added in, but more of that would have added to the fun. I've been collecting Halloween classical music for years (such as "Night On Bald Mountain" by Mussorgsky, "Totentanz" by Liszt, "Dance Macabre" by Saint-Saens, "Isle of the Dead" by Rachmaninov, "Dance Symphony" by Copland, etc.), so I'm glad to have this CD of popular music to add variety to my collection. Most of it has very good sound quality too. And although the CD cover doesn't affect the music, I love the funny spoof of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper" album.

4 out of 5 stars A very good Halloween CD.......2005-11-05

Monster Mash Rock and Roll Party is a very good and fun Halloween CD. It will really get you in the Halloween party mood. I took it to work and played it at our Halloween party, and it really set the tone. Everyone really enjoyed it. The songs are classics that we've enjoyed for years, even though some of them are not by the original artists. And they're fun, light-hearted Halloween songs, not eery or spooky. I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes to cut loose and have fun.

    3 out of 5 stars FUN CD.......2003-07-01

This is a fun cd and the songs are good, but don't be fooled like I was into thinking these songs will be the originals that we've all heard on the radio all these years. One of them is,"Haunted House". The others come very close and this is a very good album despite that flaw the songs come very close.

    1 out of 5 stars cheap sounding.......2006-10-22

If you like your music reproduced with a synthesizer and 80's production quality, than this cd is for you. Other than that, you have to ask yourself why it was $10 at Walmart as stated by a previous review. (hint: not because it was a hidden gem)I couldn't give this less than a star because of the song selection. That is all this cd has going for it. So read the songs, enjoy it for what it is worth, move along and buy another comp that closely resembles this. (All in that order) Sorry drew, now go back to the drawing board.

4 out of 5 stars Best Halloween Cd I own.......2006-09-12

This is by far the best Halloween disc I own. I got mine at Walmart for like $10 about 5 years ago, much better price here. I saw all these fake reviews trashing this CD for some reason I'm unaware of, so I figured I had to write a review and stand up for this Awesome disc. Every Halloween like clockwork, I gotta play this disc, wether I'm decorating or partying. I bring this disc to every party I go to, a ripped version of course (you know people). Someone below wrote that these aren't the real versions of the songs, weak backround beats or something.. So not true, these are the exact same songs that I've heard on the movie soundtracks of the movies that they came from that I can tell. But what do I know? I don't sit in my car and listen to this kind of music looking for detrimental sound degradation to the soundtrack of Ghostbusters, LOL ( Don't know what I'm talking about? Take a look at some the other reviews, LOL).

Anyway, I'm getting off the beaten track....Now to the reason I gave this Disc 4 stars and not 5. Because like everything else in life, nothing is perfect. The one true gripe that I have is that most of the songs on this disc do not correlate to the liner notes. Haha, ( I was laughing when I first started playing this ). Yes it's true, They don't match up! Song #3 is really song #6, song #9 is really song #4...etc But whatever, it's just a party disc. So, Unless you own all the songs from the original CD's and listen to them the other 364 days of the year, while you're at the beach, or making love to your girl, or getting married (read below, LOL) I would say stick to this. It's Happy, it's Fun, and while your dancing to "Werewolves Of London", you can comb your hair back, bite somebody on the butt and run outside howling at the moon. This might depend on how much you've had to drink though. Or not, I don't really know you, you might just be like this all the time ; )

    3 out of 5 stars Nice CD.......2000-10-15

After listening to Drew's Famous Halloween Party Music, I found some of the songs to be good, I especially enjoyed the Monster Mash cut.

2 out of 5 stars Get the real music.......1999-10-29

Although the versions on this CD are similar to the originals, they remind me of those simple mono midi files of old. The music on this CD is karaoke-like, in that the background beat is weak. Some songs are decent, like Monster Mash and Twilight Zone, but just get the originals, not these satisfactory reproductions.

Anyone who is a real fan of techno/trance will definitely enjoy Sanctuary. I'm not being biased because of the fact that I'm from NYC and Jonathan Peters dj's at the clubs there, but I'm being straight out honest...the 2 cd set is perfect front to back.....

3 out of 5 stars Brings back the Vibe of SF but not as good as S&M cd.......2004-11-10

Deffinetly a nice mix of pretty old songs . The only thing that saves this cd is JP's talent to mix . This cd should have been released a year ago , then it would have made a better impression on me . But all the tracks on it are deffinetly old . I was there on hallowween of 03 and 04 and I must say that the set JP spun this year was better . Hopefully we wont have to wait until next year to listen to it .

5 out of 5 stars Sanctuary the halloween party!!!!!!!.......2004-10-20

This cd is the most amazing soundfactory cd released. Not as amazing as S&M Party but second best. During the peak hours of this cd, I was there during the whole event and it just brings back sooooo much memories. And its scary that I remember what I did that whole night during that particular song. The sanctuary intro is one of the best soundfactory intros, it just gives me chills everytime I listen to it. The DVD is also fun to watch but some of the scenes are from the S&M Party which I was thinking about. Too bad Im not in there even though I followed the camera everywhere. Buy this set!!!!!! This is one of the last Soundfactory sets that will ever be released unless they reopen the club which will probably never happen. This set is the only resort for the Soundfactory owner Richard Grant to get out debt and prison probably. This is worth every little penny!!!!!!!

      1 out of 5 stars awful.......2006-10-22

why is rock the casbah on here? I hate to sound like a music elitist, but I don't think Joe Strummer had a goofy halloween song in mind when he penned it. Anyhow, this is awful, awful, awful. It's no good for anyone. Don't give this guy any of your money because it is clear upon first listen that he put more effort at the toilet than in the studio. with that said, drew, go purchase better equipment, or go into the toilet paper industry if you want to produce this kind of garbage.

3 out of 5 stars Corny Music Perfect for a Halloween Party.......2006-08-22

I thought the music was fine for a Halloween party. It's not meant for the music collector. The hokey rendentions play perfectly for a costume party. I marked it down because it should be more up-front that it is not the original performers.

1 out of 5 stars Drews Lame Party Music.......2004-10-28

I bought this CD so I could learn some of these songs for a halloween show my band was playing. It was definitely scary! The guitar on Rock The Casbah is the worst I have ever heard recorded. Drew should join the dead!

2 out of 5 stars You're Better Off Making Your Own Party Tape.......2003-10-09

At first glance this "Halloween Party" compilation CD seems to be everything you might want--but when the party starts and you drop this in your CD player, your friends will likely recognize it as an act of desperation. Not a single one of the cuts here are by the original artists, and to make matters worse most of them sound like Muzak gone bad.

Even so, I'm giving this particular compilation two stars instead of one, for it includes a number of selections that WILL work if you (as I always do) are making your own party music tape or burning your own party music CD: themes from the films HALLOWEEN, PSYCHO, and THE EXORCIST and a really nice full organ rendition of Bach's "Tocatta en Fuge," as well as several fairly decent sound effects tracks that work well in the mix.

Still, you can find these worthy selections elsewhere, and frankly if I had known this thing consisted of re-recorded songs by grade Z singers, I wouldn't have popped for the price. Yes, you really are better off looking through your own music collection first--or begging a friend with a good music collection to help you out--and if you absolutely must have this one, you'd do better to dig through the bargain bins than to pay full price.

What I'd really like to know is just exactly WHO IS DREW-this guy that puts out so many terrible collections of various tunes that ARE NOT BY THE ORIGINAL ARTISTS???!!! I am sure many folks out there will agree with me. I peeked in on this series just to see the types of reviews written. For the most part, the majority of reviewers mentioned how really awful this series is-except for a small handful who actually had the audacity to mention that it's ok to purchase this stuff if you or your friends can't even tell the difference!!! Good God, if you can't tell the difference then you must really have a tin ear! FORGET THIS & THE REST OF THE DREW'S PARTY SERIES-if you are really into good music-stick with the original hits. You don't necessarily have to go out & buy an entire album with filler just for one or two particular big hits-if you do your research you'll find many great collections are available-not necessarily greatest hits packages either. Try those Billboard collections(various albums are listed year by year)or even the always great Only Rock & Roll(year to year)or Only Radio Hits, anything titled ONLY on the JCI/ESX label. Happy hunting!

5 out of 5 stars Possibly hard to find, but worth it.......2004-06-23

Although I do not believe this CD is still in print, it remains the best collection of Halloween songs I've found after exstensive searching. Our institution sponsors a children's Halloween trick-or-treat, and two years ago I spent hours -- days -- hunting down the right music. Although there are hundreds of Spooky CDs available, many of them were a huge disappointment.

This one has all the Must-Have songs: "Purple People Eater", "Monster Mash", "Witch Doctor", "Love Potion #9"... plus some fun effects (heartbeats, owls, footsteps) for variety, and fun lesser-knon songs such as "Doin' the Zombie". The disc ends with a spoken-word "Legend of Sleepy Hollow". In other words, it's perfect for a Halloween function for young children -- not too scary, just gently spooky.

Procees from this CD went to the St. Jude's CHildren's Research Hospital. I think it is out of print, but you can still find used copies (here at Amazon, for example), and they're worth tracking down.

I bought this a couple years ago. Half the music on this CD has nothing to do with Halloween. Whatever happend to 'Thriller', 'Werewolves of London' and other timeless classics? They are not on this CD.

      2 out of 5 stars Not What I Expected.......2000-10-27

First of all, these songs are all remakes, and not very good ones at that. Second, where did anyone get the idea that "Macho Man", "Let's Go Dancin'", and "Disco Inferno" are Halloween songs? All in all, I was very disappointed in this cd. Save your money- this is not worth it.

      2 out of 5 stars Yuk.......1999-11-02

Ditto to what everyone else said. The songs are all remakes, (poor ones at that) and many of the songs on this CD do not belong on a halloween track. I wouldn't buy it if you are looking for a good Halloween CD. But it's decent if you like Disco.

1 out of 5 stars Dreadful, Hackneyed Re-Recordings.......1999-09-09

Not only are none of these the original recordings of the songs in question, but they aren't even decent remakes! The TIME WARP is an especially poorly butchered piece.

      2 out of 5 stars it's ok.......1999-05-10

This is not the best Halloween Party music, butI guess it's ok. I just don't think that you should buy this CD, you won't get your money's worth!

2 out of 5 stars Looking for a creepy Halloween CD? Don't buy!.......2006-07-26

I take a chance on these Halloween CD's from time to time and on occasion I get ripped. Basically this one is a bunch of soft electonic bebop music with bad, supposedly creepy, voice-overs. My neighbor thought it was cool, but he also owns a library of 80's dance music.

If you are looking for good haunted themed CD's try; A Night in a Haunted House/A Night in a Graveyard, Sounds from a Night of Terror, Drew's Famous Haunted House Horrors, Screamin' Halloween Sounds and Halloween Horror.

4 out of 5 stars Mostly Halloween Electronica, No "Party Rock".......2002-07-17

Even though there are only six tracks on this CD, most of the songs on "Sounds of Horror" are pretty long, averaging about 8½ minutes. The first track on here ("The House of Horror") clocks in at just 8 minutes and is a relatively good song with piano and organ mixed with electronica. To add to the Halloween theme, a voice sample ("Welcome to my house") is played a few times followed by a supposedly scary laugh. In my opinion, if the voice samples (cackles and laughs included) had been removed, this CD would have been a lot more enjoyable. On the other hand, though, it probably wouldnýt have been recognizable as a Halloween CD without the vocals.

Tracks #2 ("Heartbeats") and #3 ("Thunderstorm Night") are a bit more likable and well named. "Heartbeats" obviously includes a medium tempo heartbeat with some slow breathing, and "Thunderstorm Night" involves rain and thunder. Both are set to music, though; theyýre not just sound effects.

With track #4 ("Horror Party Rock") returns the annoying voice samples. In this one itýs an Igor-sounding creature saying, "Why donýt you come into the house?" More obnoxious "creepy" laughs and cackles in track #5 ("Laugh of Death"), the longest song on here (12 minutes), with some heavy breathing and yells alternating in the background. Track #6 ("Mystic Ballad") wraps everything up with an equally long digital song which includes a beautiful piano solo like in the first track.

Now, although the front cover claims this CD contains "party rock", there is nothing close to rock ýný roll on here. All the tracks lean more towards the electronic/instrumental genre. So, if you enjoy that type of music, then you might like this CD. In my opinion, itýs pretty good as long as you ignore the cheesy sound effects and vocals.
