About the Artist
Exceptional talent, a rich heartwarming voice, and a contagious excitement for ministry are unmistakable characteristics of Christian recording artist Luke Garrett. All who have heard him sing, whether on one of his recorded discs or at one of his 100-plus concerts per year, agree that the Lord has truly blessed this singer/songwriter, as he, in turn, gives of his tremendous gifts to bless others.

Garrett's roots in Christian music go back to a small church in Coweta, Oklahoma, where he made a decision for Christ at an early age. Although the Lord had truly touched him as a child, he struggled through his high school years with committing himself daily to God. He experienced a turning point in his spiritual life when, while attending UCLA, he won the Frank Sinatra Performance Award for most popular vocalist. He then realized that every note he would ever sing was a gift from God. At that time, Luke recognized the Lord's calling on his life and his commission to use his voice for the glory of God.

    I ordered this CD and also Worchip Jamz 2 for my kids, but this CD would be much more appropriate for preschool age kids than older (my youngest is 11.)
    It's wonderful music for the younger set! Very inspired.

    This CD and another by the same artist will not play in my CD player which doesn't read CD-R's. When I play it in a boom box it will work. The songs just don't appeal to my children or our youth group. The song lyrics are well written but the tunes themselves are not catchy to the kids. They seem to like Colin Buchannan's Aussie Praise collection much better. Amazon doesn't sell it but cbd.com does. Great Effort though by this couple.

    What a great album for getting in an upbeat worship frame of mind. I have used the whole Worship Rock series with the young kids and youth at my church and they love them all! I highly recomend all of the Worship Rock collection.

    The 28 songs on this CD provide a broad spectrum of American art songs. JanDeGaetani possesses a beautiful mezzo-soprano voice and ideally expresses the proper emotions these songs require. Gilbert Kalish's piano supplies the necessary support without getting in the way of the singer. All in all, this is a good collaboration.

    This is a great album. It spans the spectrum of 20th Century American music from the tonality and romanticism of Stephen Foster to the experimentality of John Cage.

    Jan DeGaetani and Gilbert Kalish, with their understanding and sensitivity to the music of their time, combine to form a duo that sets the standard for interpretation of this music.

    Students, professionals, and general classical music lovers will cherish this CD in their library.

    If you want an introduction to American Music of this Century, this album provides the most accessible doorway to the widest array of styles I have heard.

    As guitars reigned supreme in the world of alternative rock circa 1989, and artists grew more oblique in the articulation of their faith. Two brothers from California, raised on groups like Daniel Amos, 441, The Altar Boys and others, Ronnie and Jason Martin stockpiled the cast-off synths and drum machines from the earlier 80s bands and delved into a style of techno-house music that was all their own. Not only did they eschew the guitar driven alt-rock aesthetic, which cast them as a niche within a niche, but they also cast off the all-too-common attitude within the Christian alternative music scene that Jesus should be hidden behind allegory, metaphor or other veils. The Martins embraced their love of Jesus and their love of digital sounds with equal passion. Their second effort, simply entitled Jesus, became an absolute favorite of the small techno music underground. Years later, Jason left to pursue the dreamy noise-pop or shoegazer rock with Starflyer 59 while Ronnie dove even farther into the keyboard realm with Joy Electric. As he gained a larger following, the demand for this early gem has grown and grown. It remains a testament to these young artists devotion to their own vision and Michael Knotts vision as an A&R director and label president.

    I've not listened to Christian music in a long, long time, but recently fond my copy of this on cassette, and got curious to see what became of this band...

    OK, this is for the most part a really good electronica album; several of these songs are really gems, though I can no longer match the titles to most of them -- Sea Breeze always seemed to be a true standout. Anyway, it is a really good "feel good" sort of album, and generally fun to listen too.

    However, I can't help wonder if the editorial reviewers even listened to the same album. In an era where it seemed most Christian artists were literally screaming "JESUS!!!" (it seems the definition of "Christian music" has been watered-down since then), the Dance House Children (though naming the album after him) only have a couple songs that have obvious Christian references While all the songs could be classified as niceness music, very little of it stands out as definitively Christian (or geared to any specific religion) -- much of it could work just as easy for for the "New Age" love-in-light crowd, or for purely secular people who would like a sort of cheerful sweetness-music, etc. Actually, as is typical of electronica, most of the songs don't really make much sense, many conveying mood without apparent meaning. Still, these sweet, innocent, mostly bright songs made a fun bit of variety as a break from darker music I often listen too now.

      Worship Rock #1 has so many great songs- 18 or 19 I think. It's like two CD's worth. It's very fun to play in the car because the kids love the songs, but they're not just for kids. It has a down-to-earth feel that makes Worship seem just like a normal part of our lives, not all churchy with wierd words, because our family just isn't into that. I highly recommend it.
