After hearing this group from trumpeter Chris Boti's "Chill" program from radio station KKSF, I vowed to purchase the cd and it is certainly an excellent recording and complilation of contemporary lounge music and electronica!

Italian Secret Service ia a pair of young men. One does keyboads and sings, the other does flutes, reeds, and sings. (I'm a fan of lots of flute so that's especially nice for my taste.) There are also guest vocalists (some in English).

Like their countrymates 'Montefiori Cocktail' they have a good sense of musical humor. Track 4 is "Smells Like Teen Spirit" done as a jazzy bossa nova. It works great! They also cover a Duke Ellington song (track 9).

Some are faster dance tracks, some are slower 'this-feels-good' tracks, some are kinda silly.

They've appeared on a lot of compilations. If you like the general style you'll like this one. Their label's website has a page on them at www.freecomusic.com/italiansecretservice (dot) htm. Unfortunately there are no soundclips as of now.

Happen to pick up a copy of Control yourself only because there was a song on here that I thought was something else. Although the quality is fair, the music doesn't suffer. Every song is great. I usually don't write in on these reviews, but I thought this CD deserves the regonition!

Top Rock for 2000.......2000-09-22

Before I acquired my very own copy of Hit the ground runnings Control yourself, I assumed that this type of rock had perished from the face of the earth. Words could not explain how happy I am to hear so many great songs on a cd that even my wife tolerates. This is the first cd that I can leave on without skipping over any songs to get to the good ones because the whole thing is the best I've heard in a long long time. You can't go wrong with this one. Long live rock.

The 80's Rock Has Returned.......2000-08-25

Talk about hitting gold, Hit The Ground Runnings Control Yourself could redefine the industries standards, to an internet subcultural blitz! Being a lover of 1980's melodic pop rock, this group does it with style. Rumseys dynamic vocals, served with percision guitars, lots of 80's style keyboards, and continuous sing along hooks, you can best believe that we will be hearing more of these lads in the near future. All 11 tracks on this disc reminds me of the early mtv days when I lived in New York, when rock portraited a time of glitter, hair and spandex. Never before has an album exited me as much as Jefferson Starship's Modern Times, or Styx's Grand Illusion. Digging into their web site, you'll find that they had another release before having the typical problems with the notorious entertainment industry. Though I cannot locate a copy of their debut (would someone please sell me a copy), I recommend you pick up a copy of this classic rocker Control Yourself and let the goods times rock and roll.

WHEN I PURCHASE A CD, IT'S HAS TO FULFILL MY EVERY NEEDS, AND CONTROL YOURSELF DOES JUST THAT. BLAIR RUMSEYS VOICE IS SO POWERFUL THAT I RATE HIM UP THEIR WITH JIMI JAMISON FROM SURVIVOR AND ROBERT PLANT. HE PROVIDES A RUFF AND RASPY VOCAL ON THE TITLE TRACK CONTROL YOURSELF, THEN GOES THRU A COMPLETE MORPHING ON THE MUCH BEAUTIFUL BALLAD LOST. EVERY SONG ON HERE DISPLAYS THE TALENT OF EACH MEMBER THAT MAKES UP THIS FIVE MAN ROCK BAND. DIGGING INTO THE HISTORY OF THIS GROUP, IT SEEMS THAT HARD LUCK TURNED INTO GOOD LUCK, AND IT'S ABOUT TIME. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS CD TO ANY FAN OF ROCK & ROLL. CONTROL YOURSELF

Great AOR Rock is "Back Again"!!!.......2000-08-09

Well all I can say is, the manager of this group should have his head examined for holding on to this melodic treasure for ten years! Hit the Ground Running has prove themselves once more with this belated work of art. For a collection of what they call demo's, I would put this up there with the greats such as YES, Boston, Journey, and early Genesis. The CD starts off with a classic rocker "Control Yourself". The heavy rockin' guitars put you in the party mood like the first Boston album. The second track "Back Again" is one of my favorites. Knauss keyboards are blended so well, that the anticipation gets you like a Steven Speilberg movie. "Shaghaid" is the type of song I would use if I was about to ride my Harley cross country at high speeds beyond my control! "Lost" has to be one of the best ballads I have heard since White Snakes "Is This Love". "Still Life Lover" is comparable to something The Outfield would have released back in the day. "Holding On" & "Pain" are great sing along songs that are still good for todays AOR Melodic Radio, definately number one hits! The next 2 "Dirty Girl & "ICV" aren't my favorite, but they still show off Agunus's fantastic guitar ability to be an outstanding contender. Then, the album ends with the rocker of the year "Surrounded By Fire". This reminds me of the old Deep Purple days with the organ jamming, and the guitars slamming! Yes this CD is a must, especially when you know that this collection was just Demo's! Being a musician myself, I would gladly have the producers of this treasure do my demo's!!
