About the Artist
The Cousins in Christ are on a mission to spread the message of Gods salvation through music! Founded in 1997 by Rose Marie Rudolph, the Cousins in Christ feature twelve children who are double cousins. Rose of Sharon Media is a Catholic apostolate formed to create quality Christian entertainment and solid teaching. Inspiration for the series came while Rose Marie spent long hours in a Catholic hospital chapel praying before the Blessed Sacrament. Her 5-year old son, Kevin, lay near death from a ruptured appendix. Miraculously, Kevin survived, and Rose Marie felt called to create the album as a thank you to Our Lord. "I realized I needed to give back to God first the talents he had given me." These unique double cousins will charm their way into your heart! The six Rudolph brothers, John Paul, Matthew, David, Kevin, Joseph, and Isaac are the children of Rose Marie and Stephen Rudolph. The three sisters are the daughters of Bob and Carol Meyer: Rebecca, Katie and ! Stephanie, along with their younger brothers, Christopher, Daniel and Michael. The two families are related twice by marriage. Bob Meyer and Rose Marie Rudolph are siblings as are Carol Meyer and Steve Rudolph. This is truly a family affair! The Cousins in Christ continue to spread their gospel message through live performances. Since 1997, they have appeared at celebrations throughout the Diocese of Peoria, including performances for the CCD students of the Missionaries of Charity. The Cousins in Christ have been featured at the Catholic Marketing Network Trade Shows in Chicago and Philadelphia and on EWTNs "Faith Factory". They have appeared twice on A Closer Walk with Fr. Hal Cohen. This summer they will take the stage at the Midwest Family Catholic Conference in Wichita, Kansas. Their enthusiasm for the faith is an inspiration to young and old alike!

What could be more sublime than a wall of dark, rotund Russian voices shimmering against the rising, ornate walls of a great cathedral? Not much, and this compilation of absolutely magnificent music proves it. The label Hearts of Space returns on this third choral collection to the ominous Slavic chant of their first choral album, Sacred Treasures I, which gathered together recordings of stunning Bulgarian and Russian choirs portraying the sacred works of Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, and other composers. Whereas Treasures I pulled from varied sections of sacred liturgies, including solo passages, Treasures III most often stays in harmonic chant with select voices occasionally rising and rolling in polyphonic heavenly calls. The collective voice draws the emotive tension taut here, as on Rimsky-Korsakov's "Our Father," which uses the absence of darkness to later juxtapose bold, rising drama. The Kiev chant "Blessed Art Thou O Lord" sends chills down the spine as the whispering consonants of the Russian language skip across the ancient repetition like sand skitters over a stormy beach. This is a collection as breathtakingly beautiful as the Cathedral of the Dormition itself. Not to be missed. --Karen K. Hugg
Customer Reviews:
Absolutely FANTASTIC CD !!.......2007-06-28
I'll keep this short: I'm not new to chant or choral music but there are SO MANY options out here that it's hard to know which ones are worth buying. I've got a few titles in my budding collection but I have to say that this particular recording is FANTASTIC. It is at once awe inspiring, meditative, and peaceful. Simply wonderful...
Sacred and a treasure!.......2007-06-11
Wow! This is as good as the first Sacred Treasures if not better. These holy and divine works are truly "the speech of angels".
Absolutely wonderful.......2006-12-28
I've really become taken with Russian choral music as of late. I've tried to get my hands on every recording I can, and amongst them all this is one of the very best. The phrasing, tonality and selection is terrific.
More Divine Beauty and Peace!.......2006-12-03
I am the producer of this CD and also of the first CD in the Sacred Treasures series called "SACRED TREASURES: Choral Masterworks From Russia" as well as of "SACRED TREASURES IV: Quiet Prayers" and "CELTIC TWILIGHT 7: Sacred Spirit". In each case, my intention was to bring together the very best performances of exceptionally beautiful, slow and peaceful sacred music. Most of the pieces on this compilation (as on the other compilations mentioned above) are filled with lush harmonies sung by large mixed choirs. All the selections are deeply nourishing to the soul.
In many cases, I chose to use excerpts from longer pieces, omitting the exultant huge crescendos and very fast sections that are typical of Russian sacred music, presenting only the slow and quiet verses. Different types of music serve different needs, and in today's stressful and fast-paced world, one of the most important and often neglected needs is for time out from that world--to "lay aside all earthly cares" (as the text to a Russian "Cherubic Hymn" prescribes) and to rest in a magical, quiet space of slow, peaceful, beauty. That peaceful beauty is available to you on all of these compilations, including this one, "SACRED TREASURES III"...
It Doesn't Get any Better!!!.......2006-10-09
Having collected a decent library of sacred music over the years I can readily attest that this is the best sacred music CD that I own, my second favorite being a requiem chant by the monks of Solesmes. Further, upon listening to this CD everyone I know seems to respond to it with the same enthusiasm. Track 10 is my personal favorite, but there are no weak pieces here. The entire production hangs together well. Can't recommend it enough to novice or seasoned liturgical music listener.

Majestic hymns sung with British accents. A great combination! I haven't noticed any objectionable sounds on my copy.
hymns we sang in church.......2003-02-16
i grew up in a traditional presbyterian church that had a pipe organ. i wanted a cd of many of the hymns that we sang in church sung by a choir and accompanied by a pipe organ. this cd fulfilled my wishes perfectly. the hymns are performed in a very straight-forward fashion with no show-boating or excess flourishes which is exactly what i wanted. this is not gospel music but what i refer to as liturgical music to indicate that it is religious music but not gospel music. i would give it 5 stars but there is a slight hiss. other than that the recording quality is very good.

It's good to have the clean-vowelled, fresh-voiced Cambridge Singers back in action with composer John Rutter, who demonstrates once again his considerable talents as a choral director. Here, he also had his work cut out arranging 15 of the tracks (and composing one other). Divided up into various categories, such as "the Eucharist" and "folk hymns," this album will delight the confirmed hymn enthusiast, provided that he or she doesn't insist on the pure, as-written product. Rutter's reworkings range from the bold and brassy (occasionally deliciously over the top--what would Martin Luther have thought of the naughtiness in "A mighty fortress is our God"?) to those of harp-accompanied simplicity, not least in the charming lines of "Be thou my vision." Several tasteful descants are models of their kind. There are some surprises at which to chuckle. For example, not the expected brass and organ job on "We plough the fields and scatter," but a dainty, tripping harp accompaniment to the familiar melody, such as Haydn might have wedded to a Scottish folksong. Occasional numbers might be too saccharine for some tastes, but there are cunningly placed samples of Gregorian chant, Tallis, and Gibbons to provide contrast and cleanse the palate. --Andrew Green

What can I say !.......2007-02-15
Having listened to this twice... It is difficult to find words for something so Glorious. It doesn't almost hurt, but I almost exploded in heavenly rapture several times.
You will need to get two. It is not music that you will want to keep to yourself.
a voice teacher and early music fan.......2007-02-02
'The hymns heard on this disc span over 15 centuries of the history of Christian Europe, and have been chosen simply to make up a varied program which can be pleasant to hear.' Some items are accompanied by organ, some by harp where a lighter sound was more appropriate. Some are unaccompanied as in the Gregorian hymns, and five of the grandest hymns are given festival arrangements using brass, timpani, percussion and organ. Although the perspective of this album is Anglican,it must be noted that the Anglican hymn tradition has been notably eclectic. Hymnody is forever changing. 'This album does NOT attempt to reflect the most recent changes-the emergence of pop and folk-influenced worship songs and choruses has been well taken care of elsewhere, and time alone will tell whether there is any lasting worth in this most drastic upheaval of worship style.' Therefore, it is timely to reflect upon the immense riches of hymns built up over so many centuries, when they are at great risk of neglect. John Rutter has produced an amazing number of arrangements as well as original songs, and they are all first-rate. Choirs throughout the world (who are skilled enough to sing them)take great pleasure in working with his selections, and audiences, regardless of listening experience seem to enjoy them. They are tuneful, clever and unusual!!!
The Cambridge Singers number : 10 female sopranos,2 male and 4 female altos, 7 tenors and 8 basses. They sing extremely well with clear consonents and well-shaped vowels and plenty of gusto. I miss the boy sopranos that usually sing in the British choirs, but that's only a personal preference, and it surely is not Rutter's preference, because I have never known him to make use of them. A truly inspiring recording, nonetheless.
Another Rutter Keeper!.......2003-02-17
Rutter has won many fans throughout the world for his passionate, creative yet tasteful contributions to church music. Here is a hymn collection with several traditional choices along with Rutter originals.
Several comprise Rutter's remakes, which is most cases are very diginified and not at all distractive to the thrust of the original. The orchestration is superb, and the Cambridge Singers of course provide outstanding choral might.
Well worth consideration to the church music collection.
worship of god made mostglorius in this cd.......2002-04-30
i was 1st introduced to john rutters music on a radio program... when i 1st heard the arrangement of christ the lord is risen today presented in this cd i pictured a grand celebration of the solemn mass of the resurection of our lord and pictured in particular the grand procession i pictured this being celebrated... this hymn and cd does as best as humanly possible represent the great glory of god and does as its title suggests sing with the heavens and for you fellow traditionalists this is a strongly recomended cd
Heavenly Music.......2001-10-15
The hymns of SING, YE HEAVENS represent 1500 years of music in the Christian church. Pure and rich are these hymns by the Cambridge Singers with their perfect diction that leaves nothing for improvement and their tone quality that envelops the listener. The beauty of the harp, the organ, and the brass adds to the pleasure this CD brings to the listener's ear and heart.

Customer Reviews:
At last, some REAL Bjorling rarities!.......2000-12-26
I often go into a record store and see a `new' recording of Jussi Bjorling material, usually on a very small and not terribly reputable label, that proclaims `The Greatest Rarities of Jussi Bjorling!', or something like that, and I grab the CD with great eagerness only to find that this is yet another transfer of the same Bjorling recordings from the late 1930s which have been put on CD hundreds of times already. No doubt the people putting out these records think that everything Jussi did before the LP era began is `rare'. While Bjorling fanatics like me may be perfectly happy to own 20 DIFFERENT versions of this great tenor singing, for example, `Che gelida manina' , we don't want 20 of the exact same recording! So I am delighted to report that this isn't yet another collection of the same old stuff, and indeed contains several songs and sacred arias he never recorded anywhere else.
This collection was put together by Cantor Don Goldberg, probably the foremost Bjorling authority in the United States - and I say `probably' only because Jussi's son Anders lives in Minnesota. In addition to presumably providing the original recordings, he has also written some excellent and perceptive notes on Bjorling's career as a recitalist and radio artist, which actually took up much more of Bjorling's time than his work on the opera stage.
Of the 21 selections on this CD, 5 have never been released in any form, an additional 9 have never been released on CD to the best of my knowledge, and all but one of the rest of the offerings are on CDs that are now out of print. This `not really rare' selection is a `Flower Song' that also appears on the Bluebell CD `Jussi Bjorling Live in Holland and Norway'. All these tracks are originally from radio broadcasts, mostly from the Bell Telephone Hour and the Voice of Firestone. The operatic selections are familiar (i.e `Nessun Dorma', and arias from Manon, Carmen, etc), although occasionally in unfamiliar form, such as a Swedish language `Salut, demeure', and the songs tend to be those `chestnuts' well liked by American radio audiences of the time, such as `A Dream' by James Caroll Bartlett, and `The Rose of Tralee'. He throws in a few Italian songs as well, such as `Funiculi Funicula' and `La Danza', although the last is sung in Swedish as well.
Of course, the singing is uniformly marvelous. Few would deny that Bjorling was, if not the greatest tenor of the twentieth century, at least in the top 5, and I, of course, would put him at number 1. Some highlights are `Nessun Dorma' sung by someone who actually understands that it's not a soccer anthem but the dreamy rapture of a man in love, a gorgeous rendition of `The Rose of Tralee' with superb feeling and legato, his marvelous English diction and facility with runs in `Clorinda', a superb `La Reve' from Manon, and, no great surprise from this master of Gounod's Romeo et Juliette and Faust, a deeply moving `O Divine Redeemer' by the same composer. There is a marvelous moment in the aforementioned `Funiculi Funicula' while the chorus is singing the words where he sings 4 notes ascending the scale of such beauty and power it makes one shiver. He also has marvelous soprano partners Grace Moore and Eleanor Steber in scenes from `Faust' and `Il Trovatore', and a very decent baritone partner, Donald Dickson, in a scene from `La Forza Del Destino', a pre-echo of the same duet recorded 12 years later with Robert Merrill.
Why, then, only 4 stars, or more accurately, 3 1/2? Either I have better sounding LP originals than Cantor Goldberg does, which I think is highly unlikely, or the remastering had some problems. Some of the selections, notably `Funiculi Funicula' and `O Divine Redeemer', simply do not sound as good as they do on my LPs. It is possible this is due to my hearing the LPs and this CD on different systems, and also I have not listened to the LPs in some time and may be remembering incorrectly. In general, I get the impression that the process used was something similar to the Ambisonic Process used by Nimbus Records - both give Bjorling a faraway sound, sometimes almost like he is underwater. One thing I think was a very bad idea was that in virtually every case applause was cut off, making the ends of songs seem very abrupt and in some cases taking away from the impact of Bjorling's final (occasionally high) notes. To be even more picky, I think I would have also preferred the French language Gounod `Sanctus' he sang on the same broadcast as `O divine redeemer', because I don't think it's a terribly good English translation and it sounds better in Latin anyway. Still, I understand that Cantor Goldberg wanted to give us the rarest items possible.
Though Jussi Bjorling impresses under almost any circumstances, I think this is a CD less for people who are comparatively new to his voice than for committed collectors, for whom this disc will be essential. And of course, I hope for Volume II and III and IV, or even more, even if they might need to change engineers. There's still quite a few more Bjorling rarities out there...

a very useful collection of music for weddings. A pity that at least two of the samples let you hear the wrong music, i.e. other music than the title shows......

I am just reviewing to let people know that at least one of the audio samples is incorrect. I clicked the sample to listen to the sample of Meditation from Thais by Massenet but what played was the Entrance to the Queen of Sheba by Handel.
Perfect Music for a Perfect Day.......2003-04-02
What an excellent collection of music from the amazing Chandos catalog. All the selections are arranged into sections based on where in the ceremony the music would be heard. And there's more than just 'Here Comes the Bride' (although it is there) but all sorts of choices that any bride would love to make her wedding memorable and individual. 2 CDs that have all sorts of different music whether you're planning a traditional wedding or just a few friends in the park, there is something in it for anyone. I highly recommend this collection!

A Must Have for Tebaldi Fans.......2005-09-19
Decca has been perusing the vaults and re-releasing some classic recordings. Renata Tebaldi's CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL is one such recording. Originally released in 1971, it is a wonderful example of Tebaldi's artistry. While her voice is somewhat darker in this recording than in some of her earlier recordings, the arrangers seemed to know how to highlight Tebaldi's vocal majesty in tracks that suit her voice.
It is a standard operatic Christmas recording-traditional Christmas carols and some religious songs that are not necessarily Christmas pieces, but fit the mood of the holiday season rather well. Tebaldi sings reach track with ease. In some tracks we find the glory and artistry that is trademark Tebaldi, particularly when she sings "O Holy Night." We have renditions of both versions of "Ave Maria" (Gounod and Schubert). The Gounod is very well done. "Panis Angelicus" is heavenly. Her rendition of "O Divine Redeemer" reminds me of her Desdemona of OTELLO (the Karajan version with Mario Del Monaco in the title role) when she sings the "Willow Song" and then moves into the Hail Mary. To me, this is one of Tebaldi's greatest recorded moments. While the music differs, she performs "O Divine Redeemer" with the same intensity and feeling as her Desdemona. An added bonus is her English diction. I have become used to most operatic recordings of Christmas music having beautiful moments vocally, though the English diction is poor (Placido Domingo and Pavarotti's Christmas recordings quickly come to mind), but this is not the case with Tebaldi, who carefully sings each English word. It is perhaps attention to detail that makes this recording outstanding.
This recording is truly a classic and fortunately its re-release ensures it will be a favorite for years to come.

Customer Reviews:
Perfect for the Season.......2005-11-19
I purchased this years ago and the enjoyment has grown every Christmas. Handel's Messiah is beautiful, The Nutcracker is a classic and the arrangement of hymns conveys the true wonders of the season. While there is a place for pop carols, these classics should be in every Christian's music library. I loved this so much, I actually purchased a complete replacement set when I lost one of the discs. Certainly an excellent value that any music lover would treasure.
FOR WHISTLING OR SINGING ALONG.......2003-12-28
The gifted Richard Hayman (Boston Pops arranger for more than 30 years) offers an interesting collection of holiday favourites. The back cover says "Orchestra and Chorus" - beware, there is no chorus. The sub-title "Philharmomic Symphony Orchestra" is rather pedantic. Why not simply "Richard Hayman and His Orchestra"? The opening and closing numbers are sing-along medleys... the liner notes offer the words. Two Leroy Anderson numbers receive a fair treatment: SLEIGH RIDE and SONG OF THE BELLS, the latter being played rrather slowly. There is a beautiful rendition of MUSIC BOX DANCER, the only version I know that uses the music box. The counter-melody is too loud and takes away the charm of the main theme. A few compositions by the conductor himself. A great collection for tree-trimming, whistling or singing along.

Customer Reviews:
An Uneven Tebaldi Collection.......2002-12-18
This relatively new singers series from Decca is interesting. They have opened up their vaults and released recordings of legendary singers going outside their standard repetoire. In some cases, it works quite well(hear Corelli or Di Stefano singing from OTELLO on their discs). In the case of this collection of the great Renata Tebaldi, they don't quite succeed.
Yes, it's great to hear her in the LA WALLY aria, or the MANON LESCAUT aria- particularly the latter becuase it was recorded very early on in her career. But we've heard all this before on other, better compilations.
There is too much late career Tebaldi here that plagues this collection. Here voice sounds tired and lackluster in the breif ADRIANA LECOUVREUR duet with Corelli, especially when compared to the recording of it she did Del Monaco ten years earlier. The AIDA duet, also with Corelli, in which she sings the mezzo role of Amneris is mediocre, at best. THough she sounds comfortable down in the depths of the mezzo notes, she is never truly convincing. Corelli doesn't fare much better here, either.
Gounod's "O Divine Redeemer" is a standout here, but an odd version of Rodgers & Hammersteins "If I Loved You" is best avoided.
All in all, there are some moments of Tebaldi's greatness here, but they are few and far between. To hear her at her best, pick up the Opera D'Oro live TOSCA from '59 with Di Stefano and Gobbi, or the '67 GIOCONDA with Bergonzi (if you can find it), or one of the many other Decca compilations that find a youthful Tebaldi sounding comfortable in her standard repetoire.
wow.......2002-05-01
Amazing repertoire from one of the most gifted spinto sopranos I've ever heard. This CD is a great value and I was surprised to find it enhanced with pictures of Tebaldi, a discography, song lyrics, and links to websites. For the die-hard Tebaldi fan (and that's me), it was a great investment. Her early recordings are gems of opera, showcasing some of the most beautiful singing I've ever heard. The tracks done after her "vocal crisis" show what a powerful mezzo (and I mean POWERFUL) she became while still retaining some of her soprano roles. The tracks sung in English are a little awkward to listen to, but I'm sure that we must sound the same way to Italians when singing their music. Emotionally, "If I Loved You" is really great.
Truly, an impassioned compilation of songs.
Tribute to a living legend!.......2001-12-17
The singers enhanced CD series is a wonderful effort to bring legendary opera singers closer to the new generation of opera fans. Not only vocally but also visually by providing pictures from performances and rehearsals.
Among these singers Renata Tebaldi, of course, could not be excluded. Her singers CD is a journey from the early to the late stages of her distinguished career. I was pleased to discover that most tracks are rarities and not extracts from her commercial complete opera recordings. This means that her signature roles like Tosca, Desdemona, Leonora (Forza)and many others are not included here. The sound is excellent, even in tracks recorded in 1949. In these early recordings one will experience the most beautiful sound ever to come out of a human throat! But don't let this comment fool you, there is more than enough drama there too. Tebaldi, in my opinion, was one of the few artists that "injected feelings in her singing". The singing and acting were there simultaneously. This is why Maestro Gardelli named her "the Caruso of sopranos".
After the early recordings we listen to the second-period Tebaldi, more mature, with stronger lower register that provided her with great successes in the verisimo repertoire. You also get to hear the heroic Franco Corelli in extracts from Aida (Renata sings Amneris) and Adriana Lecouvreur. Despite my first hesitations about tracks recorded late in her career ('71, '73) , she is amazingly sublime! The Handel and Gluck extracts, for example, never sounded so beautiful, so relaxing! 2 lovely Christmas songs and her trademark "If I loved you" complete this wonderful set that has gained a special place in my heart!
