So how does Chris Tomlin follow up his 2006 Artist and Male Vocalist of the Year Dove Awards? Easy... he goes out and releases his best work to date with See the Morning, a superb collection of worship-flavored tracks that demonstrate Tomlin continues refining his art. As with the previous Arriving, producer Ed Cash is firmly at the helm and masterfully blending Tomlin's smooth vocals and his band's chiming guitars and rock-steady rhythm. The extensive road work that Tomlin and his band have done certainly shows in how tight See the Morning sounds. In fact, tracks like "Glorious" and "Awesome Is the Lord Most High" may even lose a little luster compared with how they sound live on Passion: Everything Glorious. No matter, as this release is much more about songwriting than it is about energy. For Tomlin, verse and chorus have never flowed smoother and sweeter than on "Glory in the Highest" and "How Can I Keep from Singing?" and first single "Made to Worship." Tomlin also offers a nice cover of Brenton Brown's "Everlasting God," slightly slower than Lincoln Brewster's fiery version on Let the Praises Ring but equally rewarding. Further highlights include the atmospheric "Uncreated One" and a new and pleasing twist on the classic "Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)." Start to finish, See the Morning is Tomlin's most complete release and a strong argument for calling him one of this generation's finest songwriters in the modern church. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:

Wonderful Worship Album.......2007-05-21
Tomlin and his band sound tight and blend together wonderfully. For those unfamiliar with his sound, I'd say that Tomlin is something of a cross between Steven Curtis Chapman's musical stylings and Wes King's softspoken vocals. If you enjoy either of these artists or light pop and rock in general, Tomlin should be right up your alley.
I highly recommend this album to anyone in need of a worship boost. This album will get you singing and praising in no time flat.

Album Description
Description: Multiple Stellar Award-winner, Grammy-nominee, and perennial gospel music favorite, Marvin Sapp, has succeeded in establishing himself as one of the most recognizable voices in gospel music. Sapp declared himself "not a singer who can preach, but rather a preacher who just happens to sing," and he does both with the case of Thirsty. For Thirsty, Sapp teamed up with producers Aaron Lindsey, Myron Butler, his choir Levi, and New Breed. The cd was recorded live, before a capacity crowd.Customer Reviews:

With an "alright, this time it's for real" promise, Toby Mac turns the keys of the ignition and hits the gas on Portable Sounds, his third and most impressive solo effort to date. The musician-producer sounds more confident and comfortable than ever before, deftly mixing elements of rap, rock, pop, R&B, funk, and even a little reggae into a deliciously creative entrée. Some of the "joints on this record" - as Toby Mac's boy TruDog calls them - fall more into one style or another. Yet the world party sound that Toby Mac introduced on his previous Diverse City is built upon here with the opening "One World" as well as "No Ordinary Love." Pop flavors more tracks than before with guitar-driven numbers like "Made to Love," "I'm For You," and the infectious "Suddenly." Fans will also be pleased as TruDog is indeed back on the ridiculously cute "Hype Man." Urgent rockers like "Ignition" and the silky smooth "Lose My Soul" give even more spice and variety to liven up an already electric mix. The latter track is finely tuned with guest vocals from Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac pal Mandisa. Much like Sting, Toby Mac has transcended a former identity (as part of the D.C. Talk super group) and grown into an artist worthy of merit on his own. Portable Sounds stands up to repeated listens with a fresh and energetic sound and a buoyant and unapologetic joy seldom heard. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:

Toby Surprises Us Again with a Sound Effort.......2007-07-23
His sophmore album, Diverse City, was a huge improvement on every level. It still took some getting used to, but Tobymac really ripped one out of the park with several memorable songs (and a DC Talk reunion song) that still recieve consistant playback on the radio (and in my ipod).
What would you know then, that his third solo effort, Portable Sounds, is an even greater improvement than his last. Building on the same momentum as Diverse City, he hones in on and perfects his sound by dotting the i's and crossing his t's, and the result is absolutely beautiful.
Here's hoping that Toby can continue this trend and really give us a grand slam the next time around. Or should we just hope for that DC Talk reunion thats bound to happen? I mean, come on guys, Fletwood Mac and the Police got back together, its your turn.
I love this CD!.......2007-07-16
Made to love Him!!!.......2007-07-11
Opening is the soul/funk horn sprinkled "One world", a celebratory song with rapped verses urging all God's children to "Come as you are" and "Come together in love".
The melodic "Made to love" is rockier (with a reggae bridge) and wouldn't sound out of place on a DC Talk album (it reminds me of "What have we become" from "Jesus Freak"), with lyrics about the essence of our creation; "I was made to find you/I was made just for you/Made to adore you/I was made to love". Similar in sound is the funk/rocker "I'm with you".
"Boomin'/Opera trip" is a loud guitar driven funk work out, with an operatic outro. "Face of the Earth/Chuck @ Artist Development" is a midtempo acoustic song with rapped verses and a catchy chorus.
"No ordinary love" is a horn peppered upbeat boy-band sounding song with additional vocals by Nirva Dorsaint-Ready. "Feelin' so fly" is similar.
"Ignition" as its name infers is a blistering rocker, while "Suddenly" is a sunny sounding retro rocker with a catchy guitar riff and refrain.
"All in (letting go)/Mr Talkbox" is a midtempo guitar driven song (the closest thing to a ballad on this CD) with nice harmonies, and closing is the soulful "Lose My Soul/Afterparty" with Kirk Franklin (who also appeared on TobyMac's debut "Momentum") & Mandisa, with lyrics eschewing materialism for spirituality.
I must confess I prefer "Diverse city", but this comes very close to that brilliant album.

Doesn't get much better than this..........2007-07-19
Brooke Fraser also did an amazing job yet again with 'Lead me to the Cross' and 'Hosanna' (latter is also on the new live Hillsong album 'Saviour King', also on THIS album).
I reckon Joel and the team will go a long way with this ongoing project- oh, and the DVD 'The I Heart Revolution' is inspiring- all the more so as I'm working in a poor area of rural China!
captures the heart of a movement.......2007-06-01
This album makes me want to go out and change the world. Small things with great love. Seeking to have the compassion of Christ. Allowing my heart to break over what breaks God's heart... to share the gospel with my life and my actions.. not just with what I say. To be the hands and feet of Christ in this world... to impact people in a positive way... and all glory going to God.
God is up to something in the lives of young people. He wants to use us in powerful ways... putting into action the revolutionary idea of TRULY loving Him... and loving people. This album has really crystallized a lot of what I've been reading and hearing lately (Irresistible Revolution, etc..)
It's definitely a slightly different flavor than their previous albums... but if you're into social justice and living a life of impact in Christ's name.... check out this album. It will inspire.
I'm a relatively new fan of Hillsong UNITED but they've really secured my support with this album. I'm enjoying pretty much every song here... and I'm looking forward to seeing what's in store with "the I Heart Revolution"
These guys get a lot of slack because of their popularity. And also people want to hear their old albums repackaged it seems... but God is always fresh, and it seems to me that they're in tune with what God is doing in the hearts of young people. I will continue to pray that their passion will light many a fire around the world.
Peace, love and grace..
Studio album does not disappoint.......2007-05-25
I find myself going to bed with a song in my head and wake up humming one of the songs. They stay with me all day and help me to get through the day. I have read other reviews and comments and the ones that criticize should really try to have a more open mind. The message, love and desire is in this album just as much as the others in the past. I have always said before you criticize, try to educate yourself more on the albums and songs...if you want a deeper understanding on the songs, go to YouTube Hillsong United TV and check out all the blogs on the songs. Once you see it, you will have a better and deeper understanding of the songs and connect even more. I am so grateful that there are talented people who use their gifts that God has given them and use it to serve Him according to His purpose. Without powerful worship songs, I don't know how I would honestly make it through the daily struggles that I face. They honestly get me through and help me to connect to our Creator and find purpose, meaning and understanding.
Thank you so very much Hillsong United for continuing to create awesome praise and worship music that glorifies and exhalts our Creator and Saviour!!!
The Album is AMAZING!!!.......2007-05-25

They set out to nail down a defining moment in their career, the MercyMe golden spike if you will. The goal for Coming Up to Breathe was a genre groundbreaking release such as Amy Grant's Lead Me On or U2's The Joshua Tree. While it's hard to go that far, it's safe to say that MercyMe's artistic integrity has met commercial appeal somewhere in the middle with Coming Up to Breathe. The one-time worship band certainly know how to write a hit and they bring us more of the same with radio-ready tracks like "So Long Self," "Last One Standing," and "Safe and Sound." But lead man Bart Millard digs a little deeper on the self-revealing "No More No Less" and "One Trick Pony." Lyrically both tracks reveal a band unapologetic about their faith and creative destiny. "Pony" is a pleasant divergence with its slide guitar and Mississippi mud atmosphere, conjuring up images of the band sitting at a crossroads somewhere in the Southland. MercyMe has never been afraid to show their musical influences on their sleeve. That's why you shouldn't be surprised by the Edge-like guitars on "Something About You" or even the pounding rhythm chords of "Hold Fast," which evoke Coldplay comparisons. So it's that struggle between creating something new and holding true to your principles that the band spells out for us. Perhaps Millard sums this up best on "3:42 AM (Writer's Block)" when he sings of a man out of words but not out of passion to allow God to speak through him. That's always been the aim of MercyMe and in this case, their hammer has driven this spike solidly into the ground. --Michael LyttleAlbum Description
Certain albums are obvious landmarks in the history of Christian music. These are the times when vision meets talent in a divine appointment that produces a collection of songs that help define an artist's career: WhiteHeart's 'Freedom', Amy Grant's 'Lead Me On', dcTalk's 'Jesus Freak', and Michael W. Smith's 'Eye 2 Eye', among others. MercyMe's new release, 'Coming Up to Breathe', is one of those albums. Singer Bart Millard is pleased with the success of MercyMe's previous albums, but admits there's a special satisfaction in this one. "We've always joked about wanting to make our 'Freedom' or 'Lead Me On', and time will tell if that is ever the case," Millard says, "but we just gave it everything we had. There was no holding back on this record. Regardless of what you are going through in life, regardless of what you are consumed with, regardless of what fills up your everyday life, there are times you have to stop and surface and take a deep breath and remember what's important. That's what this album is for us. It's addressing everything we've gone through and realizing the one common denominator in all this is Jesus. That's what is worth taking a breath for."Customer Reviews:

Mercy Me Rocks - or not.......2007-02-22
The music is catchy, and the lyrics are right on in expressing the human conditon, yet lift the mind and the heart in praise.
The harmony on "Let Me Introduce Myself" and "Bring the Rain" are stunning, with the richness of the basses mixing so well with the lighter voices of the sopranos.
I thought it was extremely clever to write a song about the frustration of writing a song in "3:41 a.m.".
I think that this album is a valuable addition to the Christian contemporary music genre, and I'm anxious for Mercy Me to give us more.
All Thumbs Up!.......2007-02-08
Worthy of note is that musically, they have ventured and matured beyond (even though they didnt stray so far away) from their signature sound.
It is a great listen. The arrangements are very good, some are outright innovative. There is also more chart-like pop than rock than in their previous albums, a tiny Southern influence but in my opinion but it still great.
Best of all about this cd, and being a Catholic reviewer, I must say their theology is still very sound and undiluted.
I dont prefer the radio singles over the others. They are all equally powerful tracks. Some are just so eerily personal to me
Summarily, I love 'Coming Up to Breathe'. Mercy Me has scored again and I'm glad they are who they are.
Great stuff for a first-time listener.......2007-01-20
This CD is uplifting, but it's also full of excellent music that I can jam to. Those back-up vocalists are fantastic; they add a really rich dimension to the sound that you can't get from paper-thin, generic arrangements that abound out there these days. It's just different enough to set it apart from other artists, but not so different that it alienates its listeners.
I like the message. I like the sound. That's really everything I could ask for.

Yes, it's a little different. But give it a try........2007-06-07
1. Sometimes the lyrics are a bit redundant. He rhymes words like seen, needs, memoRIES, vacanCY.... it goes on and on like that the whole song. As a songwriter he should know that sort of makes the song sound like a nursery rhyme. Maybe that's the effect of having two kids.
2. This is petty but he frequently uses the word CRAVE randomly. Maybe it's just me but I do not think this is a good word for describing how you need Jesus!
Overall, it is a newer, lighter, cleaner Jeremy Camp and I appreciately his work. It is not the usually LOUD rocker we are used to (with the exception of track 11), but if you buy for no other reason, buy it for "Give Me Jesus". It's simple, but powerful stuff.

In today's worship-crazed phase of Christian pop, Mercy Me fits right in with smooth melodies, passionate lyrics, and a vertical focus. Yet the transition from worship band to major-label act demands more. Almost There promises just enough to allow it to rise above its inconsistencies. Prayer of Jabez-inspired "Bless Me Indeed" is a glimmer of brilliance where the group brings it all together, but it's the poignancy and power of "I Can Only Imagine" that testifies to Mercy Me's great potential. The dramatic ballad captures a believer's hope for the afterlife and is fueled by Bart Millard's authoritative vocals. The song will continue to be a staple in church worship services for years to come. Then there are the not so brilliant moments, including the cheesy "House of God" and "All Fall Down." Weak moments aside, Almost There offers enough fireworks to make Mercy Me an act to watch. --Michael LyttleCustomer Reviews:
