About the Artist
After working together for over four years Bennett Surf, Paul Mall and Louis Louie have been playing the New York curcuit with their brand of catchy pop. They met while with other bands and formed a friendship which later led to songwriting. With their what the world needs now attitude, they have reintroduced the melodic pop that so many bands lack these days.

Absolutely love it!.......2006-06-16

Like Volume 1, this CD is another great collection of french pop songs. My personal favorites are "C'est la mode" and "Roller Girl", the latter sung by French New Wave goddess Anna Karina. And you can't forget the last track "Psyche Rock", which was the inspiration to the theme to the tv show "Futurama". All in all, a very fun CD, get it!

Of compilations 1 and 2, this one is definitely the one to get! Much more go-go-ish and fun and goofy. Volume 1 is good, but this one is so much better.

Johnny Hallyday's version of Billy Joe Royal's "Hush," Marie Laforet's take on the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black," Eileen's sultry interpretation of Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made For Walking," and Frank Alamo's treatment of the Turtles' "Happy Together" are at once startling, goofy and touching, but then, so were the originals. Among the home-grown tunes, France Gall's "Dady Da Da" and Serge Gainsbourg's "Marilu" share a tinny-sounding charm typical of the period. one of my favorites.......2006-06-16

Just put this one in and soak the style, attitude, and fun that everyone of these songs exudes. From covers of "Paint It Black" and "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'", to french gems "7 Heures Du Matin" and "Le College", the CD is a great introduction to an almost forgotten music scene. Even if you don't understand a drop of french, it's a wonderful compilation from beginning to end.

Not as good as V2.......2004-12-29

I have compilations 1 and 2 of this series and v2 is so much more fun and goofy. V1 is not as catchy, not as "hip" I guess. If you're choosing between volumees, choose #2!

I found this by chance in the world music section!
Its good,its fine,its top cheese.Really excellent tunes that want to make you swing your pants.If your a lover of random reworkings then check it out.
I just love the reworking of the Stones classic,Paint it Black and as for Claude François doing Eloïse,what a tune.Previous to this i'd only heard The Damned's version.
Buy it and impress your friends.

Je suis mod.......2004-06-08

Are you having a party and you want to dazzle your guests with some strange, hip sounding French bubble gum? Then this is the album for you! You will find yourself giggling a little at first, because it is just such happy, silly music, but after a couple of songs, you will start having a strange urge to wear go-go boots, smoke cigarettes and act snooty. Definitely for the eclectic music lover!

Excellent Music.......2006-02-13

This CD contains both good French and American Jazz. For me, it's more powerful than any other Jazz CD I have, in that I delve into quite a deeper and energetic mood listening to it. Favorites of mine are Brenda Lee, Diana Ross, Olivia Ruiz, and Nana Mouskouri. It has some energy to it, whereas when I listen to Ella Fitzgerald or Frank Sinatra, I'm much more kick-back. You'll have fun with this CD, maybe even finding yourself dancing sensually with a signifant other in one hand and a glass of wine in the other.

Product Description

In 1982, Sunnyside released its first recording, Mirth Song, featuring pianist Harold Danko and bassist Rufus Reid. Twenty-five years later, the catalog is closing in on 250 titles. Sunnyside has been the home of many fine pianists, including Kirk Lightsey, James Williams, Fred Hersch, Geoff Keezer , Armen Donelian, Eddie Higgins, Laszlo Gardony and Kenny Werner. Especially memorable Sunnyside recordings include Equilateral, on which greats Hank Jones and Roy Haynes lent support to reedman Billy Pierce in an unusual bass-less trio setting; Treasure Island on which Bob Belden first recorded his Ensemble; and Rumba Para Monk, recorded by Jerry Gonzalez and his cohorts in the Fort Apache Band and considered by many to be the ultimate Afro-Cuban Jazz album. More recently, Argentinian composer/pianist Guillermo Klein has provided greatly acclaimed works while Brazilian Luciana Souza has continued the tradition of great vocalists on the label, such as Meredith d'Ambrosio and Jay Clayton. Other artists in the compilation include Jeff Tain Watts (with Kenny Kirkland), Marc Copland, Lee Konitz, Jay Leonhart, Michael Leonhart, Steve Nelson, Deidre Rodman, Rory Stuart, and Glenn Wilson.
This compilation provides a view at the depth and diversity of this influential label.

French pop flavor creates sweet silky intrigue in the Latitudes remix. Cerrone's Music of Life is a disco blast from the past with subtle energy. Waves and Sun has Caribbean appeal. Femi Kuti has tribal beats that open into echoes begging you to escape from urban playgrounds. Kojak provides a jazzy interlude with lyrics. The idea of the entire album seems to be escape and by the time you get to the Love Theme, you imagine this was what you expected the album would be about from the start. The last two tracks are the highlight of the album. Desert is dreamy and emotive and worth the wait.
