NO REASON TO REPLACE THE KOCH DISC IF YOU ALREADY OWN IT.......2007-03-22
It's good to finally see this album back in print again, and it sounds great.
If you have the 1997 Koch disc, and are wondering about any difference in remastering between the two, I have compared them both: Don't waste your money, because both discs are nearly identical.
Also, the Koch disc has three more tracks, albeit that exist elsewhere in the currently available Argent CD catalog.
I heard a slight, and I mean SLIGHT, additional clarity in Rod Argent's organ opening of "Hold Your Head Up", but you're only going to hear this thru really good headphones, and then, again, only minimally.
I did find "I Am The Dance Of Ages" to be slightly more dynamic on the Koch, but the clarity of both were virtually the same, so the effect could be duplicated on the new disc by just adjusting the bass upward.
So, again, I don't see any reason for buying this release, as all the five bonus tracks on this edition are also on the Koch CD, if you already own it.
And, seeing what the OOP Koch edition is going for used, you would want to buy this one, and spend the money you save buying "Nexus" & "In Deep".
I have always found myself listening to "Nexus", with the fabulous Kohoutek suite, more than this album. "All Together Now" is certainly not a bad album, I just happen to prefer "Nexus".

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence. If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."
Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

This collection not only contains all the favorites one would expect, but a neat group of surprises too. I especially love the duets with people like Liza Minnelli and Rosemary Clooney, and the various collaborative efforts with songwriters like Jule Styne and Burton Lane accompanying Michael at the piano.
This collection is a classic to be treasured. Bravo Michael!

RE-AVAILABLE NOW IN A LESS EXPENSIVE NEW RELEASE.......2007-04-09
This album was OOP for several years, but has been re-released with virtually identical mastering, and is available new for less than half the price this edition goes for used.
This disc does have three additional tracks that are not on the new disc, but those same songs are available elsewhere in the current Argent CD catalog.
I have written an audio comparison of the two discs and posted it on the new version.
Link to the 2007, less-expensive re-released version of All Together Now.
Argent reaches a musical and commercial peak.......2003-12-30
While not as musically consistent as the first two albums "Argent" and "Ring of Hands," "All Together Now" compensates for this flaw by displaying the stylistic diversity that made Argent an interesting progressive rock band. Tunes such as "Keep On Rollin'," "He's a Dynamo" and "Be My Lover, Be My Friend" reflect Rod Argent's and guitarist/vocalist Russ Ballard's ability to write, play and sing rock 'n' roll as energetic as anything that bands such as the Faces and Humble Pie were putting out then. Whatever is lost in authenticity is compensated for with verve and professionalism. Ballard, in particular, sings his heart out on his own compositions, "Tragedy" and "He's a Dynamo," injecting quite a dose of passion to them.
For the most part, Argent's progressive rock excursions "I Am the Dance of Ages" and "Pure Love" are, if nothing else, listenable and enjoyable. The latter is an album highlight, providing (Rod) Argent the opportunity to write a cohesive multi-part suite ranging from a lengthy-but-engaging organ solo to a plodding waltz-style heavy rock section.
"All Together Now" represents a high point of Argent's discography, an album that displays the stylistic diversity that made them one of the more interesting progressive rock groups of the '70s. Everything is here, from great songs to excellent musicianship.
docked one star for it's cover........2002-11-11
In terms of songs, their previous album RING OF HANDS is much better. I like three songs off of this: HOLD YOUR HEAD UP is a very catchy prog hard rocker that became ARGENT's biggest hit and has a nice organic solo from ROD, TRAGEDY is a slightly funky hard rocker that has some danger in it and I AM THE DANCE OF AGES is one of ARGENT'S most dangerous, prog rock songs ever. Tis a wonderful tune!
As for the rest, well...I haven't listened to side two of this for over 15 years and I probably won't listen to it again, from what I remember from it. KEEP ON ROLLIN' from side one finds ARGENT rock-n-rollin' in a silly way and has a not-so-good vocal from ROD.
I still have my original vinyl copy of it, which has one page profiles on each band member, along with some nice stuff about their engineers and road crew. The cd version of this has a wealth of bonus tracks on it. Usually, I'm not really big on bonus tracks, but I'm actually recommending the cd version BECAUSE of the bonus tracks!
As for the cover..well..where's ROGER DEAN when you need him?
OUTSTANDING CD.......2001-12-18
Tuneful, commercially successful rock.......2001-02-26
This album has been characterized as germinating the seeds of the split between Rod Argent and Russ Ballard, as Argent began leaning towards a prog-rock approach and Ballard emphazising concise, hard-rocking hit songs from this point on. But on "All Together Now," these two guys actually complement each other somewhat, as the overall feel of this album is of a professional roots-rock approach, thanks to songs like the boogie-woogie "Keep On Rollin'" and the boogie rockin' "He's a Dynamo." There are some prog-rock excursions on "I am the Dance of Ages" and the suite "Pure Love." Both tunes are, if nothing else, interesting and enjoyable.
"All Together Now" may not be as stylistically consistent as the first two albums, "Argent and "Ring of Hands." But it's not bad enough to be passed on. A worthwile album to own.

May We Be Truly Thankful.......2005-11-05
The Quincy Choral Society presents a program that might be performed in your local church on Thanksgiving Eve. It is a good mix of traditional hymns, carols and popular songs. The program suggests an autumn setting complete with rustic backdrops and a plentiful harvest.
The CD sums up the program with the following message: "We in America live in an extraordinary time of bounty. Never before in history have so many people had so much: nutritious food, ample clothing, spacious housing, good health. For all this we should be thankful every day. Let us consciously reject destructive influences in our society, and instead embrace a thankful attitude for the good fortune we enjoy in our country -- not just at Thanksgiving in November, but every day throughout the year."
When listening to this CD, my mind wanders back to my early childhood and memories of church concerts at Thanksgiving: memories of friends and family gathered around the supper table; memories of the wonderful smells and aromas from the kitchen as my mother prepared Thanksgiving dinner; thoughts of the coming Christmas season; my feeble attempts, in grade school, at making a paper turkey from a drawing of my hand (!); and of all the things we have to be thankful for.
The description indicates Ludwig Van Beethoven as the author. He did write the music for "Ode to Joy" which is included in this CD, but there are many composers and authors represented in this program, both classical and contemporary.
The performers include: The Quincy Choral Society, Johanna Nichols (flute), Marilyn Whipple (piano and organ), QCS Kids & Friends, Jeff Cruikshank (guitar and vocals), Laurie Macintosh (vocals), and AKA Pelican Groove (a capella vocals). The performances were recorded at various churches and schools in Quincy and Milton, MA.
Thanksgiving is certainly a time to reflect on the bounty and richness of life, and this CD will certainly bring out those memories. If you enjoy choral music, you will count your blessings and be thankful you purchased this CD of Thanksgiving hymns and carols. Highly recommended.
