Editorial Reviews
"Sister Smile" is deep with nuances that shift and dance and reward repeated listens.
Product Description
A fifteen track career retrospective from one of the most distinctive voices in pop music today.
...A greatest hits? Well, yes and more. This collection is as much an intimate look at the personal evolution of a New York area singer/songwriter as it is a study of the changing production values in studio recordings and hairstyles through the eighties and nineties. As a relatively obscure performer on the New York club circuit through the years, Skuller hopes the CD will expand his audience and bring his robust pop tenor and a knack for dark melodies (he categorizes it as gothic coffeehouse) to a wider audience.
The CD is spiked with high caliber guest performances from musicians such as Robert Quine (Mathew Sweet), J.D. Daugherty (Patti Smith), James Mastro (Bongos, Health & Happiness Show), and Lenny Pickett (Tower of Power).
A key radio track Sister Smile was produced by James Mastro. As Skuller explains in the album's liner notes, "The lyric is about two of rock's tragic losses, the deaths of Jeff Buckley and the Singing Nun." The Singing Nun's nickname was Soeur Sourire, or Sister Smile, hence the title. The utter lack of irony with which Skuller links the two artists is reflected in the song. It connects the drowning of the young bohemian and the suicide of the middle-aged ex-nun with a seamlessness that has to be heard to be believed. The song is also featured on Rusted Roses, an Australian tribute to Jeff Buckley.

Skuller blends well.........2000-12-11
Everyone I've played 'Skullers Greatest Hits' for loves it, ranging in age from 20 to 60. This CD is in the rotating collection in my office, and we never tire of hearing it.
Wish I heard more of his stuff on the radio!
amazing undiscovered voice!.......2000-09-07
I've been tracking Eddie's career for quite a while now. First saw him many years ago at CBGB's and have always checked the paper to see where he'd be next. Also always thought he'd be destined for commercial success. While he does have an underground following and has always been a reviewer's favorite, it's a waste that his voice has not yet been heard by the masses. Song after song on this collection of tunes he's recorded over the past 15 or so years display a voice and range that are rare for male vocalists in any genre. It's clear and sweet and pure and always sounds honest and real. A total lack of pretension...he makes you believe that he believes every word he is saying. The producers wisely keep his voice front and center. So many of these songs could easily have been hit singles!
With this CD, I know more than ever that being an Eddie Skuller fan, I'm in on the beginning of something big!
