Customer Reviews:
If you like raw country music you will love the Randy Rogers Band.......2007-06-17
After seeing the Randy Rogers Band in concert in May 2007, I immediately got online and ordered this CD. If you enjoy raw country music, hard hitting and REAL, then you must experience the Randy Rogers Band. They are the best Texas band out there right now. Randy Rogers has a firm grip on writing texas country, and with the band, knows just how to reach their audience. You will not be disappointed.
Very good country rock.......2006-08-18
I saw another review of this album that said Randy Rogers sounded like a cross between Chris Knight and Waylon Jennings. As a fan of both of those guys I can tell you, no way. Randy Rogers voice sounds like Steve Earle and his music sounds like Pat Green with a pinch of Cross Canadian Ragweed. A lot of his songs have this "wall of sound" like some of Pat Green's songs, with a fiddle out front. If you like Earle or Green you will like this album.
outsatnding.......2006-07-04
If you like country music you will like this, one of the up and coming stars out of Texas, excellent song writer. If you have ever purchased anything by Radney Foster then you will want this.
Randy Rogers Band.......2006-06-28
The Randy Rogers Band is one of the hottest Texas country bands around right now with there latest album "Rollercoaster", already reaching legendary status, its also the follow up to their hit record "Like it used to be". The groups sound stays uniquelly Randy Rogers, even if you havent heard one of there new songs before you know who it is. Its hard to ignore such an album withs songs like "cant slow down" and "they call it the Hillcountry". With the song "Cant Slow Down", it talks about the highs and lows of being on the road, hence the album name "Rollercoaster". The music flows so nice and really captures the mood. Then theres the tribute to the Texas Hillcountry in "They call it the Hillcountry", they talk about how the Hillcountry is dissapearing to progress and development, just sit back, listen and take it all in, the fiddle in this song is absolutely beautiful. What draws me to RRB is there unique sound, its 100% TX country! There guitar player was a rocker, there fiddle player was grass routes, the bass guitarist had huge helpings of Waylon Jennings, which have heavy bass lines, and Then Randy Rogers who is a passionate believer in honest, straight forward storytellin. You feel like you can relate to these guys, they dont come off as better than you and are just as likely to see them in the crowd as you are on stage. Though they are TX country you realy cant compare them to anyone else, they just have that unique, one of a kind sound. I would also have to say that "Like it used to be" is my second favorite album from them, if you dont have it I highly recomend it.
Words can't explain this cd.......2006-03-04
I can't count the endless hours I have spent listening to this awesome cd. I have not been a huge Texas Country music fan, but this explosion of talent has changed me. I bought this cd about a year ago when it came out and man, you talk about good ol'e drinking songs, followed up by a slow song that will blow your mind. This Thing is good from start to finish. You can pick Randy's voice out of a crowd any day....Hes the best thing goin right now!

It's Ok.......2007-03-06
I found this CD to be just average. Sure the subject of a openly gay pop star is great in my opinion, but this is not a great CD. The songs are all very amateur sounding and cheaply recorded. The beats are mild, the lyrics are on and off, sometimes being sexy and sometimes being just plain silly, and his voice is just not all that great. Just because this CD is about being gay openly does not mean it's a great CD. The recordings themselves are very poorly made and sound almost like they did it for fun in someones house one saterday afternoon. I'm not saying the CD is horrible, but it's not great either. The only song worth listening too is "you turn it on".
rock, pop, dance...and a lot of sexy vocals.......2006-11-11
First off, this album is constantly compared to George Michael, and I feel exactly the same. Picture a younger, more contemporary George with some of his hits like "Too Funky" and "Fastlove", mix in a little rock, and you have Jim. His slow songs ("Hold On" and "One More Time")are touching and meaningful, not so overproduced you can't focus on his soothing voice. A guitar-laced rock influence give a powerful thrust to "Welcome to Hollywood" and "Outside". The latter of these two deals with gaybashing and a big F-you to the haters who made his, and so many of the young lives of us gay boys tough. The dance beats crank up on all the other tracks. One track in particular, "So Deep" is one of the most sexually provocative songs I've ever heard in my life. This actually made me so hot the first time I heard it, I had to quickly switch to the next track because I was driving in the car.
His voice is very mature. The lyrics are a mix of feel-good fancy, sexual freedom, and real-life substance. The procuction values are engaging, but not overpowering. Jim is a real artist who deserves a committed listen from all of us.
great album.......2006-11-10
I really liked this album. A few songs had to grow on me, but most of them were just awesome from the start. Great album from a talented guy!
rollercoaster is a rollercoaster.......2006-08-19
I bought this cd with a bit of trepidation. I am SOO glad I got it though. Hold On and Alive are romantic, while some of the others are more "danceable." Forbidden Love and So Deep are, well, NOT something you would expect to hear on am/fm radio, but both are also great. Welcome to Hollywood seems to be more of the challenges of trying to make it in "tinsle town." My favourite lyric from "..Hollywood" is: " You better make an impression, or start packing your things."
Overall, I give this cd very high marks.

American Idol Must!.......2006-05-28
There has been much written about this young entertainer being gay. Big deal! Who cares? I certainly couldn't care less what his sexual preference is. What I care about is the music and the music on this CD is beyond 5 stars. Just as music has no color, music also has no sexual preference. I bought this CD because I am an American Idol addict. So, I wanted to get my hands on another American Idol contestant's effort. Was I surprised? Absolutely! It is much better than I could have imagined. As a matter of fact, it is light years beyond the CDs of some of the better known American Idol contestant's works. This CD should actually be on the top of the charts along with Kelly Clarkson, Bo Bice and Clay Aiken. It is so much better than anything the other AI contestants have done that I wonder what we all missed during the competition. Here is your chance to support a young talent that I hope has a long career (and becomes more of a household name). He is a thousand times better than any Justin Timberlake, Backstreet Boys or the like. What I also like about the music is it ranges from meaningful ballads to funky dance to sensual pleasure to alternative-tinged rock to power pop. It is all here. My only regret is that I did not purchase this CD sooner. So, don't make the same mistake I did. Buy it now!

Roy's First.......2007-07-08
A friend of mine had a couple of Roy Buchanan's albums but I hardly gave them a second thought. So when I spotted a cassette of this album in a local record stores free bin I took it and now having listened to it I am happily surprise.Roy Buchacan has the great versitility on his guitar that many of the 60's greats such as Hendrix has,but production wise Roy leaves it to the bare bones-so all you can hear is his great tone on his instrument and (for better or worse) his monotone, egoless vocal stylings.Although I often hear Buchanan listed as a blues guitarist this particular recording is very musically diverse-covering rock, pop, country and even zydeco along with his blues influences. The two zydeco rhythm tunes hear "Cajun" and "Haunted House" are two of the best songs hear with their peppy tempo and equally peppy riffing. The album starts off with two lightweight sounding (but only deceptively so) poppish tunes in the gentle "Sweet Dreams" and the cathy "I Am A Lonesome Fugitive",which has a strong country-rock flavor. As far as the blues goes "John's Blues" has the unusual destinction of adding a very Eastern/Arabic sounding modality into Roy's bluesy guitar solos. On "Pete's Blues" Roy brightens up his blues with a lot of tasty melodic surprises and playful "fluttering" riffs that totally transend the rather stereotypcial blues-rock backing. "The Messiah Will Come Again" is and almost gospelish narrative spoken by Roy in almost a whisper and is a very surprising song to have on an album like this. And yes-Roy has thought you you country swing lovers too with a cover of the Hank Williams classic "Hey Good Lookin" and,if you listen closley even that has a little zydeco/cajun rhythm in it too!During an era when Bob Dylan,The Band and others were really going for a way to try to draw the rootsiness from rock n' roll Roy Buchanan really just showed us how many different American roots oriented music's rocked pretty hard on their own.And by giving the album an unadorned but modern production everyone seems to have gotton the point and really enjoy this music.
So you like the sound of a telecaster?.......2006-11-01
This is a guitar lovers' and blues lovers' dream...blazing hot, scorching guitar played with drama and emotion. The tone cries, screams, and elates you.
"Sweet Dreams" "John Blues" and "Petes Blue" are killer blues songs. The muscular bends and abrasive single-pickup telecaster tone will rock your skull out.
The highlight of the album is "The Messiah will come again". It starts out as a somber, spiritual song and then, out of nowhere, a lightning fast guitar run transforms the song into a show case of fast playing and acrobatic bends.
Roy Buchanan is an unheralded guitar god and this album is terrific. Get it !
Searing, Soaring, Sensational.......2006-01-16
The old 8-track of Roy Buchanan I listened to growing up has a whole new dimension on compact disc.
Roy's solos literally crackle through the speakers. "John's Blues" is amazing. "Pete's Blue" will make the fine hairs on your neck stand on end. The chord progression he uses on "Pete's Blue" is downright amazing. It's the best thing on the album.
Or maybe "Messiah" is the best thing. It's perhaps his best known song. It's an exhibition on how to play the Telecaster; how to squeeze every last decibel of sound out of wood and steel, which he proceeds to do near the end of the song as he dances all the way up the fretboard.
This album would have five stars if not for the largely uninspired vocal tracks. Roy's guitar saves the day, though.
Even if you don't like the blues, you'll love this album. It's Roy Buchanan 101. And it's scary. But a good scary.
TOO GOOD.......2005-01-16
This album is amazingly soulfull and Roy Buchanan is so underated. His sound and technique are heavenly, and his mastery of these two attributes are almost at the level of page and hendrix. I really disagree with the guy that said that his overall playing was just as much thanks to his guitar (a telecaster) as his skill and talent. In fact i thought the opposite basically. All of the greatest guitarists have a custom model with 500 dollar pickups and tons of pedals and distortion boxes, but you see this sort of hick country dude pick up just a good old american telescaster, and blows the roof off. Some other guys were right about some of the tracks, a little annoying becuz some guys want rock and blues but there very country, however, not one song is without a searing guitar solo that will make your hair stand on end. And, many of the tracks are GREAT the whole way too, including the blues numbers and the messiah. So pick it up if you want a rare experience of a great guitarist who will influence your playing and just amaze you.
¡¡¡SIMPLEMENTE MARAVILLOSO!!!.......2004-10-02

A Must For The Moorcock Fan.......2006-05-03
I bought 'New World's Fair' when it came out on LP many years ago and tracked it down when it finally emerged on CD. I have always loved Moorcock's style of writing, whether with the Deep Fix, Hawkwind or the other groups that he has worked with. What 'Rollercoaster Holiday' is, is a chance to see how Moorcock and the Deep Fix put together 'New World's Fair', with a selection of early version, rough mixes and even some solo versions with just Moorcock and an acoustic guitar. High points for me were the alternate versions of Song For Marlene (surely the greatest song ever written about Shanghai Lil) and You're A Hero. Like the title says, if you're a fan then this is a must have, and if you're not, you might want to take a journey into themind of the man who gave us Elric, Jerry Cornelius and all those other amazing characters.

essential for you link-o-philes !.......2007-02-15
...It's a long-shelved Link album from 1958(!) that was recently re-discovered, Cadence Records president Archie Bleyer had put out 'Rumble' ,but basically didn't like Link's music enough to release the whole album...and thought he was a bad influence on 'the kids'!
One of my fave 'musical moments in history' is when Link turns on the vibrato effect for the last verse of 'Rumble' as it fades out. With this record you get to hear the whole vibrato'd verse BEFORE it fades! Ahh, life's simple pleasures.... Much of the cd's material is not new,and they re-recorded almost identical takes shortly after, but there is enough unheard stuff to make it a worthwhile purchase. My fave are the 2 psychotic-guitared versions of 'Missing Link'!!! All hail the master....
