About the Artist
Janine Stange is a contemporary singer who began singing at an early age at church and was then classically trained. A native Long Islander, Stange combines articulate and emotional songwriting with a captivating voice to create an unsurpassed sonic palette to entice the listener. After she lost her aunt to breast cancer, she started volunteering her time at 1 in 9 and decided she wanted to send a message through her music," said Geri Barish, president of 1 in 9. In Janine explains, "The song 'Rhythm of My Heart" was inspired by my aunt. It was the kind of song that the lyrics just flowed out of me without planning. I will never forget the morning I sang it for it at 1in9's Annual Mother's Day walk. It was there that I found that many people (way too many people - can relate because of the story behind it. My aunt was a giver - and this is a tribute to her and all those who have fought, are fighting, and have survived this disease."

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

Outside of R&B circles, LaVette is something of an obscurity. Her singles, released on a variety of independent labels, each with varying degrees of distribution competence, often stalled out mid-chart or failed to build on her earlier success. The result is a string of much sought after collector's items that never built the sort of overall legacy these works should have wrought. Varese's compilation goes part of the way to rectifying this, pulling together material from 1969 and 1970 sessions that LaVette recorded with producer Lelan ("Brother of Kenny") Rogers for his Silver Fox label. Waxed in Memphis with a crack set of soul musicians (the core of whom would soon become The Dixie Flyers), these are hard-soul sides that frame the awesome rawness of LaVette's voice with sizzling horns up-top and funky, deep bass down below.

LaVette's material comes from a variety of southern writers (including fellow performers Allen Toussaint and Joe South), and she nails each one. Her cover of Erma Franklin's 1967 "Piece of My Heart" (released on Shelby Singleton's SSS after the collapse of Silver Fox) is more controlled than Janis Joplin's rendition, but equally as powerful. Two duets with Hank Ballard -- a funky remake of the Midnighters "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go" and a moodier cover of King Curtis' "Hello Sunshine" -- are also very strong, as are previously unissued (or unissued in the U.S.) tracks "Easier to Say Than Do" and "We Got to Slip Around." LaVette has continued to record regularly over the decades, but this CD is by far the most solid shot of her classic soul sides currently on the market. Man oh man is this lady raw. This is soul music at it's finest. The money for the CD is worth the first track alone. The only two tracks I didn't care for were the two duets and that was just because someone else was takeing away from LaVette's awsome voice. Bettye LaVette is over looked in the soul world and it looks like she might get some long over due credit due to her latest release I've Got My Own Hell to Raise. To tell you the truth I think this is a much better CD than I've Got My Own Hell to Raise because Take Another Little Piece of My Heart is a raw piece of emotion. Due yourself and your music collection a favor and buy this CD and LaVette's CD Soul Survivors.

Donell Jones burst one the scene in 1996 with an amazing debut in the form of My Heart. The first single a remake of Stevie's Wonder's Knocks Me Off My Feet was cool but Mr. Jones really showed his skills with the ballads I Want You To Know, No Interruptions and Natural Thing. If you don't have this album in your collection then you're really missing out.

I've been a fan of Donell for a little while now, but for some reason never got this cd. Why?? It's great. I bought it recently and really love it - as much as all the other albums of his. He's got a great smooth voice and the tracks on here are good for his voice. He sings with lots of emotion and he can belt them out when need be. I especially love Wish You Were Here, Believe In Me and Knocks Me Off His Feet. I'm telling you - as a fan of R'n b and of Donell, do not do what I did, and wait so long to get this. This should be mandatory listening. You'll love it too.

This is classic r&b by a wonderful new talent - an excellent debut. The mood of the disc is definitely mid-tempo to ballady songs but Donell's beautiful voice carries it well. I was also impressed by the fact that he wrote/co-wrote/produced and arranged 98% of this disc.

It's a shame it wasn't as heavily promoted as his 2nd disc was because as I listened, I don't recall hearing any of these songs. I like the fact that on this disc, he sings about the feelings of love and what's in his heart as opposed to the new jack "bump & grind" explicit lyrics that are staples in so many songs today (particularly male r&b artists).

My favorite tracks: I WANT YOU TO KNOW (beautiful love song), MY HEART; YOU SHOULD KNOW, KNOCKS ME OFF MY FEET (can't top Stevie Wonder but "A" for effort), IN THE HOOD (remix).

I'd highly recommend this disc to those who are seeking good r&b music with heartfelt lyrics & smooth grooves w/o sexually explicit lyrics.

Donell Jones seems to have been swept under the rug when it comes to R&B. Too bad, if only people realized how good of an artist he really is. This album started the Donell Jones legacy and till this day i still play it all the time. One of the greatest R&B albums of the 90's, if not 'the' greatest in my opinion.

This is cd is so excellent that I can't stop listening to it. I had it since end of 97' and can't take if out of my car. I listened to it the other day putting more and more listerners on to it. Frankie's beautiful voice sangin' those beautiful love songs. My only suggestion would be is that the interludes would be full length songs. I am so amazed that so many other people felt same way about this cd, I didn't know this many people knew about it. (I'm not one write a review). Frankie and Chucky please come back out. The game need true R & B love music again!!

I LOVE THIS ALBUM! I have replaced this CD 3 times since it's debut. I believe my so-called "friends" keep stealing it, but it's all good. I think he's one of the best R&B male vocalist of our generation. Unfortunately, he's perished to the likes of Maxwell, Genuine and a host of other artists, but in my humble opinion, none of them hold a candle to his flame. Frankie, if you read these reviews, please know that you are sorely missed in the industry. Your fans still listen to all your songs, and we miss you. KNOW THIS!

I had this tape when I was a young teenager. Played it over and over again thinking I was inlove with whatever guy for the moment. FRANKIE had me feeling I was in LOVE. I saw the video "IF I HAD YOU" the other day. I tried to see if i could burn the song but results turn out to fail me.... I rememeber when productions of Chucky Thompson anything that he touched I always loved and listened to. FRANKIE had that sexy sound to his voice. Now I can order the CD from here. Move out the way Usher and all other RnB acts cause FRANKIE is back in my LIFE. It was a EXCELLENT cd to put you in that mood. I miss that in music now a day.

As a consignor of rare & little heard R&B albums, I decided to give this CD a listen and it was well worth the money. With the production of Chucky Thompson this was without doubt a smooth R&B CD that doesn't have any skipped track moments. Frankie voice is a mixture of falsetto & tenor and he shines on all tracks. In particular tracks six through eight is one of the best slow jam trilogy's I've heard all year. If memory serves me correctly track six Dear Love was his lead single which was written by Daron Jones (112). Track seven Think Of You is a heartfelt ballad as is track eight All I Do. If you have a chance pick this CD up, as Frankie is another R&B vocalist whose star never had a chance to shine.

I had this album back in 1997, and I have only been able to get a burn copy since i lost my cassett tape, but it was worth it to me to have a original copy of this CD. Whoever this guy is, he put his heart into this album, because every songs is banging. Sony needs to find this guy and put him back in the game. I wish music was still this good. It's worth every dime i paid for this CD, everybody should have a copy in there collection.

Digitally Remastered Double Anthology of the Pop and Soundtrack Composer from the 50's and 60's. Perhaps his Best Counterpart of Today Would Be John Williams. There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.

I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

    Like most R&B albums of the early 1960s, Otis Redding's 1964 debut was a haphazard mixture of the artist's contemporary hits ("These Arms of Mine," "Pain in My Heart"), B-sides ("Something Is Worrying Me," "Hey Hey Baby"), and covers of popular hits of the day ("You Send Me," "Stand by Me"). Stylistically, Redding was still trying to find his feet; though he obviously had the voice and ability to pull off tender ballads like the title track, he hadn't yet given up on trying to scream like Little Richard ("Lucille"). Uneven as they may be, the tracks on Pain in My Heart get over on the sheer soulfulness of Redding's singing. Worth the price of admission alone is the underrated "Security," which was the first in a string of great uptempo Redding originals. --Dan Epstein

    As with many early Stax full-lengths, this album was built around the success of a couple hits. In this case, it was a pair of soulful ballads. What had originally been a recording session for Johnny Jenkins & The Pinetoppers (for whom Otis was the vocalist) in 1962 resulted in Otis introducing "These Arms of Mine." It was released at the end of the year and went on to become a Top 20 R&B hit, followed by "Pain In My Heart" in 1963. Another session in January 1964 produced the rest of the tracks, most of them covers. There are songs by two of Otis' heroes, Sam Cooke's "You Send Me" and Little Richard's "Lucille," as well as renditions of "Stand By Me," "I Need Your Lovin'," "Louie Louie," and Rufus Thomas' "The Dog." While some of it is unremarkable filler material, Redding's "Something Is Worrying Me" and the excellent "Security" make this disc worth a listen. The backing band is Stax's legendary rhythm section, Booker T. & the MG's, with horns provided by the Mar-Keys. Jenkins plays guitar on "These Arms of Mine" and its B-side "Hey Hey Baby." At the time, Otis hadn't completely found his groove yet, so the album is fairly inconsistent. However, it's interesting to hear the seeds of what he would become, and his wonderful singing on the slow numbers was already in fine form. It stands as a promising debut record that's enjoyable but not essential. The strongest tracks off this CD can also be found on Rhino's 2-Disc Otis Redding anthology, "Dreams To Remember" (which also features "Shout Bamalama," the Pinetoppers song that brought them to Memphis in the first place).

    What a great combination of singles fit on one maxi-single! The first one, The One I Gave My Heart To, is phoenomenal and extraordinary. It tells of love being shot down. The vocals are so great and the lyrics are the jam. Hot Like Fire, telling of a major hottie, is fresh. The beats and ad-libs are great and the remixes(especially Feel Mah Horns) best suit Aaliyah's voice and the song. Just when you thought the maxi-single's album and remixes were over, Death, an unreleased track is a great slow-medium song. I love Aaliyah's raspy voice and I'll miss her foreva.

    This maxi single is great for any Aaliyah fan!The first song is the radio mix for The one I gave my heart to song.Her vocals are great on this song!Its a shorter version of the origional.The second song is the origional hot like fire song.The third song is the Timbaland remix.Its the one from the music video.The fourth song is the feel my horns mix,it has some nice horns in it.The fifth song is hot like fire instramental.The last song is a rare non album track called Death of a Playa.This songs really good...You wont be dissapointed!

    This maxi single is great for any Aaliyah fan!The first song is the radio mix for The one I gave my heart to song.Her vocals are great on this song!Its a shorter version of the origional.The second song is the origional hot like fire song.The third song is the Timbaland remix.Its the one from the music video.The fourth song is the feel my horns mix,it has some nice horns in it.The fifth song is hot like fire instramental.The last song is a rare non album track called Death of a Playa.This songs really good...You wont be dissapointed!

    2 Un-Break My Heart, 2 Spanish Guitar, 2 He Wasn't Man Enough and the rest are only 1 song but what happened to the other songs that wasn't in this album even after Ultimate album came out?? There are ALOT of missing songs in this album!! If I want to listen to Remixes I would listen to Mariah Carey, Madonna & other singers Remixes album because they have all the songs in their album except this one. This album has 3 songs that has the same 2 songs in it is pretty as waste!! If I want to buy 1 song with different remixes I would buy maxi-single instead of this album.

    I'll say this album is off the hook, but the songs are attached and followed up, so you can't really difference when a song ends of starts. Anyway, it includes good remixes and rare ones. Some were just included in 12" singles or were never released.

    this is a hot cd. i love all of the songs and the most of the mixes are pretty long. this cd's also made into a non-stop mix. my five favorites are "Un-Break My Heart(Soul Hex Anthem Mix)," "Spanish Guitar(HQ2 Mix)," "Maybe(HQ2/Dynamix Mix)," "Spanish Guitar(Joe Claussell Mix)," and "You're Makin' Me High (David Morales Mix)." i remember hearing the soul hex mix for un-break my heart many years ago on the radio and i always wanted to own it. this cd is definitely for dance lovers out there.

    She's baaaaaaack! 6-time Grammy Award-winner Toni Braxton has one of the most exciting hits package to come along in a decade. The reason being, it's not your typical greatest hits package. It's ten of the most instantly recognizable club and radio hits of Braxton's that have had a makeover so fabulous, the DJ's deserve the 2005 diva medal of honor. If only the "Fab Five" Queer Eye guys could do to television what these "Fab Six" men have done for music, they might have a longer shelf life. Question: What do Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Peter Rauhofer and Hex Hector have in common with Toni Braxton? Answer: All of them have won Grammy Awards. Along with Junior Vasquez and Joe Claussell, these six remixers have remastered seven songs that have reached the tops of the charts. Three of the songs included have won Grammy's, 1996's "Un-Break My Heart" and 2000's "He Wasn't Man Enough" are treated to two remixes apiece, as is 2000's "Spanish Guitar," and Grammy-winner "You're Makin' Me High," "I Don't Want To Lose You," "Hit The Freeway," and "Maybe" round out the ten tracks that take you on an orgasmic journey.     This is a great mix of Ms. Braxton's work in the past. AND IT BEING A CONTINUOUS MIX that seems to flow like silk into each song is done very good!

    The only thing "bad" about it is that Un-Break My Heart and Spanish Guitar were each used twice, but besides that, this mix should get you going. Makes me want more and more of Mrs. B with her new album coming soon!

    Hit The Freeway / He Wasnt Man Enough / Youre Makin' Me High are all good ones in my opinion on this one!
