Alias Soundtrack.......2007-03-10

It came well packaged and was what I had ordered. Unfortunatley I didn't realize this was the orchestral soundtrack as I was looking for the soundtrack of songs they included in each episode. Good service though.

i want the album!..........2005-04-20

yes the score is very good but i think an album with a couple of songs heard on the show would be great to.trough the 4 seasons of the show,they featured a lots of great tunes from really talented artists (sarah maclachlan,u2,cat stevens,jet,etc...).SOi think the show deserves to have it own album like the rest of the TV shows of our time.The only thing i hope is that if they make one,they won't use those which totally not suit the spirit of the show like sex and the city and summerland soundtracks!...

Another Excellent Follow-up to Alias' Season 1 Soundtrack.......2005-03-13

This is more wonderful music from soundtrack composer Michael Giacchino. There is a greater number of slower-paced, melancholy tracks than on the first season soundtrack, but it's a great progression nevertheless. The high-speed action techno tracks remain exciting as usual, while the slower ones are quite emotive. Unfortunately, like with the previous soundtrack, the music from the show's closing credits is not included (though the same melody is peppered throughout both CDs). Here's hoping for future soundtrack releases for Seasons 3 and 4!

Not very exciting, I must say. .......2005-03-13

As a huge Alias fan, I was ecstatic when I got this soundtrack. Sadly, the majority of it consisted of slow, sad songs that were honestly pretty boring. I was looking forward to more loud and exciting songs, but there's probably only about 4 or 5 of those on here. If you like all the musics on Alias though, I'd say go for it!

Trombone olympics.......2005-07-06

The trombone is supposed to be a difficult instrument to play well. Rossolino's work on this CD is outstanding. The improv choruses he plays on "All the Things You Are" are the swingingest and most energetic trombone work I have ever heard. Rossolino also recorded a vocal album, "Turn Me Loose." Also good.

A great discovery for the jazz community.......2003-04-14

These memories are beyond words. I'm not exaggerating. Frank was the fantastic be bop wizard we all know and Double time really make it big this time discovering some lost tapes from the man in Europe. Here Frank plays in two different settings, common be bop combo and fronting a strings orchestra in a dazzling way. Really this one is among the best, if not the overall best Frank Rosolino you could ever hope to listen. Jazz community should be grateful to Double time for this unexpected present concerning the music of one of the overall best be bop master. I am.

A Landmark for the Jazztrombone.......2001-07-16

Being a enthusiastic amateur jazztromboneplayer and having a large library of jazztrombonerecordings, this CD can't be beaten. It shows Frank Rosolino at his best. His marvellous technique is shown here at full extent but even more asthonishing is his playing in the `romantic` songs "Violets" and "Corcovado". Here you discover the sentimental mood of Rosolino, which you can't find on any CD. Be prepared for a unique set of goosepimples, this is a real landmark, which can't be topped!

The ultimate "tour-de-force" for trombonist Frank Rosolino........1999-06-13

Frank Rosolino is known for his days with Stan Kenton and with the Lighthouse ensembles of the 1950's. What has become obscure is the fact that Frank remainded a vital creative virtuoso jazz trombonist right through the decades into the 1970's. These recordings were done in 1973 and 1975 in NOS studios in the Netherlands. They are of uniformly excellent recording quality and show Frank playing at his absolute best. Two tunes ("Violets" and "Corcovado") are set with Frank in front of a full orchestra.

Frank was the absolute master of the be-bop trombone. He demonstrates this repeatedly on this album with "All The Things You Are", "I Love You", "Autumn Leaves". The tempos are way up at the top of a jazz trombonist's possible "cooking tempo" and Frank doesn't let up during the extensive soloing ("All The Things. . " is 13 min. and 21 secs, most of which is Frank).

So if you love bebop. If you love jazz trombone, you MUST get this album. (Chris Tune - trombonist)

I've been an admirer of Frank Rosolino for years and looked high and low for this CD. Found it at Amazon and am delighted. The thirteen minutes of "All the Things You Are" left me exhuasted. I would have loved to have seen him play it.

At first, I'd like to correct error. The pianist, Larisa Gergieva is NOT Varely Gergiev's WIFE! She is his sister. (Elder one, I think.)

About this disc, I enjoyed this recital. Gorchakova is one of my favorite soprano. Her voice is suited well to these Russian songs. It's interesting for me to her Russian songs. If you want to hear more Russian songs, try "Songs of Desire" by Olga Bolodina from Philips.

The showcase for the Spinto soprano.......2000-04-25

Galina Gorchakova, Kirov's leading lady, is a true spinto soprano, not the more common forced lyric one. Her sound is unique and quite unusual, almost "mezzo-ish" at certain times, but with surprisingly easy resonant top. I could not help being reminded of another great Russian Galina - Vishnevskaya, the Bolshoi prima donna of 60s and 70s up to her departure from Communist regime with her husband Mstislav Rostropovich. Since then, there was an unsettling vacuum in the realm of sopranos capable of singing Russian and Italian repertoire. Luckily, Gorchakova seems ready and able to take on most of Vishnevskaya's signature roles, including Katerina of Shostakovich's "Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk." Her clarity of diction and musical intelligence are a pleasure to hear particularly on the Programme presented here because the romances (a leader-like Russian art songs) are written to some of the most beautiful Russian poetic texts.

I feel it is important to note that neither the singing nor accompaniment here is flawed at all, as the reviewer below found. Furthermore, there is no tendency to "go flat". The only thing that came as a surprise to me was inclusion of several numbers written originally for a baritone or even a bass, such as "It Was in Early Spring" or "I Remember the Wonderful Moment." However, they were executed so brilliantly, it made me forget about the specifics and just enjoy Gorchakova's beautiful voice and expressiveness.

Most of you probably got a chance to see the MET's magnificent production of Tchaikovsky's "Pique Dame" with Gorchakova, Domingo, Borodina and Hvorostovsky in leading roles. Aside from Lisa, Gorchakova is also an incredible interpreter of highly demanding role of Elisabetta from Verdi's "Don Carlo" and Leonora from his "La Forza del Destino." I can't wait to hear her "Aida." Amazingly she does not struggle with dramatic Verdian repertoire, even though it lays relatively high for such a voice. And its power allows her to cut through heavy orchestration with ease, preserving flowing, and seemingly endless vocal line with no audible breathing. Philips generously provided us with several phenomenal Russian complete opera recordings featuring Gorchakova's talents: check out "Prince Igor," "The Maid of Pskov," "Iolanta," and "The Fiery Angel," the latter one being a rare jewel and destined to become one of the greatest recorded achievements of all time. Ms. Gorchakova is also a very good actress with a beautiful stage presence and somewhat reserved but passionate delivery. Hearing this CD is essential for Russian romance fans as well as for those who want to hear a true spinto soprano at its full glory, accompanied only by a subtle gentle piano of Larissa Gergieva. I was particularly impressed with a booklet that finally has Cyrillic texts instead of despicable way of spelling Russian words with English letters. There are also good English translations by Philip Taylor that stay true to the texts but also convey their romantic feel. If I could, I would have given this disc ten stars!

Flawed but beautiful.......2000-03-16

This album of wonderful Russian romances and art songs is marred only slightly by Galina Gorchakova's tendency to go flat. Still, her unbelievably beautiful soprano voice and emotional connection with these pieces more than makes up for this. Gorchakova has never become quite as well known as her compatriots Olga Borodina and Dmitri Hvorostovsky, and hasn't recorded as much as they have either. This is a shame; I would love to hear her in some of the Italian verismo repertoire. Her rich spinto sound would serve her well, and I believe that she is known for such interpretations as Butterfly, Liu, and Tosca. I would also like to her her Lisa on recording (from Pique Dame).

Anyway, this album is truly beautiful. Larissa Gergieva, the pianist, is the sister of Valery Gergiev, the director of the Kirov Opera in St. Petersburg. I think possibly some nepotism is happening here, as she is not an ideal accompanist. Still, she supports Gorchakova well, and doesn't detract from the beauty of these pieces.
