The double-disc soundtrack to the blockbuster Saturday Night Fever (available on a single CD) marks both the zenith and the nadir of disco. It was such a popular sensation that it catapulted the music to stratospheric levels of mainstream popularity, and the album was the bestselling movie soundtrack of all time (until The Bodyguard, and then Titanic). But "Disco Fever" became so hot, it could only flame out just as quickly (along with the careers of the Bee Gees). With this record, disco became a phenomenon and a fad. The Bee Gees' contributions are the strongest, especially the once-ubiquitous "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever," and they still hold up. Then there's Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven," a trivial piece of pop ephemera that may have set new standards for ephemeral triviality. How often will you listen to this record--and how much will you play when you do? There's no telling--but it remains a classic piece of pop history, and when you're in the mood it's a good thing to have around. --Jim Emerson

Mellow, consistent vocals are easy to listen to and mix in with your favorite Blues/RB cd's. Great as background music for gatherings or just to wind-down in the evening.
Corinne Bailey Rae - how sweet is she?!!!.......2007-06-02
This young lady has such a sweet sounding, easy listening voice - I love it. Her voice is so relaxing and peaceful - totally un-violent. She warms my heart. I will be keeping my ear open for more of her talent...
Corinne Bailey Rae, BUY IT!!!!!!.......2007-05-12
We purchased Corinne Bailey Rae, one week before we saw her in person. What a talented young lady. When I think of Corinne Bailey Rae, she defines CLASSEY. Her performance in person speaks volumes. We didn't have the best seats in the house, however, if she comes around again, we will be sure to see her. BUY THIS CD, you will really enjoy it. She is like a breath of fresh air to the music industry.

The first time you listen to this disc you will undoubtedly be transported directly back to your childhood. Charles Schulz's Peanuts characters will go toe-tapping and funky-dancing through your mind's eye. Play it a few more times, though (ignoring the dialogue snippets, if you can), and you will begin to truly revel in Guaraldi's wonderful, humorous, deep piano playing. You'll hear why he's such an influence on new age ivory tickler George Winston, but you'll also realize that Winston's holiday music never quite sparkles with the underlying passion, and humor, that twinkles in these grooves. Buy it for the nostalgia--keep it because it will remain one of the most enchanting albums in your holiday collection. --Michael Ruby

This impressionistic score from Marcel Camus's 1958 cinematic retelling of the Greek myth of Orpheus was most Americans' introduction to the Brazilian musical style called bossa nova. As it became a nationwide craze that featured both Brazilian samba and U.S. cool-jazz participants, the names of Black Orpheus composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfa became familiar far beyond the hi-fi set. Along with the haunting theme song, "Manha de Carnaval," and several Jobim compositions are the vibrant street sounds of the pre-Lenten festival Carnaval, which provides the backdrop to the tragic love story of Orpheus and Eurydice. The score is awash with percussive samba rhythms and the laughter and chanting of the annual festival melee. This is a great disc to play when the day needs a parade. --Lois Maffeo
Customer Reviews:
The best and original........2007-01-29
I like Manha De Carnaval so much that I listened to Domingo, Nana Mouskouri, Carly Simon and Luis Miguel's versions borrowed from the libraries. I like the original song in track 6 by Luiz Bonfa. Track 8 guitar playing is also beautiful. Track 11 female vocal is wonderful, spontaneous and second to none. The sound quality is excellent.
wonderful.......2006-03-26
It's wonderful to have a new recording of the sound track from the movie Black Orpheus. The movie was one of my favorites but I played my old record of the sound track so many times (and put it through so many moves) it was scratched and no longer enjoyable to listen to. Now everytime I listen to my CD version I am transported to the time and space of the movie and the time and space of the early sixties when I first heard it. The little bonus addition at the end of the CD is fun too.
Buy the movie, not this soundtrack.......2006-03-09
Save your money. I love the movie very much, and to watch it and to listen it is an experience like none other. However, if you look for the music from this movie, do not look here. This is just the movie, except without video. I have great respect for Bonfa and Jobim's work on this music, but they do not get glorified truly since the tracks change so quickly and the movie sounds play such a large role in the soundtrack cd. Listen to Trio da Paz and their Black Orpheus album and see how it compares, and even though it is not the original Jobim or Bonfa, it pays more homage to them than this original soundtrack. Verve took the wrong route with this one. Yes the music is landmark in evolving Samba/Bossa Nova, but this cd does not depict truly how wonderful the music is.
Great Disc.......2006-01-15

The jazz trio recordings that made up most of West Coast pianist Vince Guaraldi's output often leaned more in the pop direction. Guaraldi had played with Cal Tjader and Woody Herman, scored a niche with Jazz Impressions of Black Orpheus, and hit a commercial high point with his melodic melodrama "Cast Your Fate to the Wind," but he will forever be tied to his score for the cartoon A Boy Named Charlie Brown. These performances are memorable for the program they set out to accomplish. The bright little skirmish of "Linus and Lucy" is the perfect accompaniment to these mimetic characters. "Blue Charlie Brown" contains some catchy piano soloing from Guaraldi. "Baseball Theme" works perfectly, as does the samba "Pebble Beach" and the Chaplinesque rag, "Schroeder." --John Swenson
Customer Reviews:
Fills that void... and then some! .......2007-07-08
This music evokes such wonderful, fond memories for me of jiffy-pop popcorn, skinned knees, sleeping bags, pillow fights, legos, lincoln logs, etc... etc... It's too darn bad that children have to grow up to be people one day. However, thank the heavens above that we have music like this to bring us back to those simpler, much more tranquil times. Long before there was "Sponge Bob", "Beavis & Butthead", "South Park", "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", etc... there was "Peanuts". A toon about a lovable loser, his daffy, dexterous dog and their group of colorful, memorable pals. Yet it was so much more than that. As a child of the 70's, Charlie Brown, Lucy, Linus, Snoopy, Peppermint Patty, Marcie, Schroeder, Woodstock, et al... were not merely just cartoon characters, they were a part of us of all. How many of you remember how excited you got whenever a "Peanuts" special was on? It was huge, momentous occasion, and the world for us, seemed to stop completely during that special hour. What made it even more special was the fact that even our jaded, pooped-out parents seemed to enjoy it almost as much as we children did. This CD awakens those childhood memories, memories full of harmony and joy. In fact, every time I hear "Linus & Lucy" I feel as if I want to cry... and for a burnt-out, cynical guy like me, that rarely happens anymore.
This is excellent music folks. Read all the glowing, wonderful reviews below me and my Amazon amigos will tell you the exact same thing. As an avid jazz fan, this trio needs to be taken seriously. Vincent Guaraldi, Monty Budwig (bass) & Colin Bailey (drums) all play tight, straight, clean lines, and simple melodies... nothing too ornate, but beautiful all the same. I really loved their version of "Fly Me to the Moon", which was an added bonus track on this dynamite recording.
You don't have to be a jazz fan to love and appreciate this one! FIVE STARS without even blinking an eyelash.
Guaraldi Sparkles, With or Without Animation!.......2007-05-20
Imagine, for a second, that this is just an album, rather than a soundtrack. Think about what it would be like if "Linus and Lucy" was not a cue to think about animated chracters, but just a really cool jazz standard.
Do you find it difficult? Actually, I don't. Why? Because when I listen to this album, and others in Guaraldi's Peanuts series, I find the music so dang good that it doesn't need Charlie Brown's endorsement. Vince's compositions are memorably memorable, his trio is tight, and his single-line style of piano is as melodic as ever there has been.
So, no doubt, you have heard this album, either as an album or as a soundtrack. What I urge you to do is to try - and it might be hard - to listen to this album as a stand alone deal. Because it really is that good! Vince Guaraldi really was a swingin' pianist and excellent songwriter. And this CD really is jazz - cool, smooth, and sparkling jazz.
The only downside to this CD, and what seperates it from many 'regular' albums - is that the album, and some of the songs, are shorter than one might come to expect. The disc chimes in just shy of 30 minutes. And the shortest song ("Schroeder") is just over a minute. But 30 minutes worth of delectable music is worth more to me than 60 minutes of average.
So listen to the disc, and try out my suggestion. The album is Vince Guaraldi, rather than Charlie Brown. And, in my opinion, it is better that way.
Not quite the movie.......2006-12-13
Okay, first of all, 'A Boy Named Charlie Brown' was a feature film, not a CBS television special. Second of all, it opened in 1969-not '64. So, actually, it came AFTER both TV specials 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' & 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown'. I agree with others here that this is definitely missing a decent part of the score, including Guaraldi's rendition of Beethoven's 'Pathetique Sonata' and, especially, the Rod McKuen title song(I mean, c'mon, whether it's liked by one and all or not-it's the film's title song, for crying out loud!) I also agree that this is probably the best the features ever got, this being the first of four, but really only the third film is the one to miss, 'Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown', a pretty pathetic waste of time.
Technically, although the two previously mentioned TV specials are in a box set, they're paired up with the Thanksgiving special, which, like most of the other specials, was pretty forgetfull, really. However, a good feature film box set would be 'A Boy Named Charlie Brown' and 'Snoopy Come Home'. After these, there's really very little in the cinematic or television entries that are worth a glance, with the TV pieces into the 90s being the ultimate in awful.
Great Music, BUT not the score from the movie.......2006-11-02
I love Charlie Brown music. The CD from "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is one of my all time favorites. After watching "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" for years and since I absolutely love Vince Guaraldi's rendition of Beethoven's "Pathetique Sonata", the music while Snoopy skates at Rockefeller Square, and the nice theme while Snoopy and Linus are on the bus to New York, I finally broke down and bought the CD. None of my favorites are here. They don't even have the silly song that Lucy, Frieda & Violet sing to Charlie when they learn that he is entering the school Spelling Bee. So for me this was a HUGE HUGE let down. The music is all good, but none of them are the main themes from the movie. Even "Linus & Lucy" is the exact same stripped down, generic version that is on the "Christmas" CD (none of the extra instruments that are in the movie version). If you listen closely, Guarldi miss hits a piano key about half way through in both tracks. Yes, I'm being nitpicky, but when you absolutely adore something and the product you bring home doesn't live up to the original, you can't help but feel disappointed.
A trip back into childhood...and to musical genius.......2005-12-13
As this show hits its' 40th anniversary, I bought this CD. I generally don't like Christmas music (yeah I'm somewhat of a Scrooge about it), but this is timeless. The fun of this music and the sheer musical artistry of Guaraldi makes this CD a must have. Listening to the instrumental cut of "Christmas Time Is Here" brings tears to my eyes with the flowing piano work, the bass lines and the superb brush work...simply beautiful. I'm not a big jazz expert, but I'm now looking to expand my catalogue with more of this master's music. At age 9, I got exposed to and learned to apprecite great jazz watching Charlie Brown and Snoopy...and there are many more like me I'm sure...Thanks Vince!

Superman's Alive!.......2007-07-05
It's John Williams. What more can I write? Anytime a soundtrack song is composed and when you hear it you automatically think of the movie then the composer has done his job. The 1st track is timeless. I am no expert like the other reviewers but this version of the soundtrack suits me fine.
Superman is great!.......2007-03-09
How can you go wrong with the theme to Superman? I run an extra mile when I play this!
The Man of Steel in music....John Williams!.......2006-08-14
As with his masterpiece score for 'Star Wars' the year before, Williams did it again with this amazing score for the Man of Steel's story. His magnificent main title personifies the Superman I remember seeing on screen at age 7, seeing him flying over deserts, rivers, mountains & cities. The only reason this gets 4 stars instead of 5 is because there are some important cues missing, though this was understandable with what they had to work with when this was originally released in 1978. Conspicuous by their absence were the cues from Superman's first night - the helicopter crash on the building's roof which brought the first appearance of our hero, and a triumphant sequence following that rescue in which we watch Superman flying over the buildings of Metropolis.
Williams' composition style is easy to spot in his various scores; even with more recent ones such as 'Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith', it's easy to distinguish a Williams score from the rest.
Classic Williams, Classic Movie.......2006-07-14
Not much to say other than this is classic movie scoring right here. Brilliant themes and melodies make Superman come alive. John William's main theme for Superman is so amazing you seem to actually hear the words 'Superman' in the fanfare. William's love theme for this film is one of his best, with rich sweeping strings and hints of strong supporting brass. Another strong track/cue is the Krypton theme or 'Planet Krypton'. This is my favorite track on the whole cd. It starts off slow with some low brass, then builds and builds until the inevitable climax which is sure to send chills down your back! There are plenty of other enjoyable tracks to be found on this CD, and some which are better just skipped over. One thing is for sure, this is a must own soundtrack for anyone who claims to be a soundtrack collector/listener!!
John Williams, the great!.......2006-07-10
The product is great because the Composer is great.
It is easy to listen to the tracks and the orchestral parts are
quite intricate.

An Acquired Taste.......2007-03-28
You have to appreciate the genius that is Richard O'Brien to truly enjoy this soundtrack (and the movie, for that matter), but it's great. Buy it if you care to. Not for the casual experimenter, though.
Shock Treatment: The Original Sound Track.......2006-11-10
Excellent!
It's been 25 years since I have seen the movie... The music is as fresh as ever.
RICHARD O'BRIEN-CRACKPOT OR GENIUS?--YOU DECIDE.......2006-09-05
Is Richard O'Brien a crackpot or a genius is a loaded question since he is both. "Rocky Horror" was straight out genius but "Shock Treatment" nestles comfortably in-between. The music and lyrics when they are not weird, are strange and when not strange, bizarre but in such an oddly appealing way that praising or damning the music defies logical assessment.
Whether one tends to be pro or con vis a vis the music(I am definitely pro) it perfectly matches the movie which is most definitely weird, strange and bizarre but unlike "Rocky Horror"
both the CD and the movie lack the dazzingly lip-smacking performance of Tim Curry as Frank-n-Furter.
As is the soundtrack has many delightfully nutty ditties and this time instead of the vocally challenged Susan Sarandon as Janet her role is sung by Jessica Harper who not only sings much much better but she has an unusually erotic tone in her voice which is a glove perfect fit to the music.
Only gave 4 stars because as a sort of sequel to "Rocky Horror" I still miss Tim.
AMAZING!.......2006-08-21
It's hard to believe that after writing possibly the greatest soundtrack in motion picture history, Richard O'Brien could have turned out something so stupendously, abysmally awful.
shock treatment.......2006-07-17
Reagarded as follow up to Rocky Horror, this is an underated musical in its own right
Worth watching or listening to for 'Little Black Dress' song alone

One of the best video game soundtracks out there........2007-07-02
This may be one of the best video game soundtracks out there. It even has the mall music from the game. Only thing I didn't get was that Gone Guru wasn't on this soundtrack. Every other song is but that one. Ah well. Good soundtrack anyway.

Album Description
Can't sleep? Stressed? Nervous? Worried? Anxious? Stress management / sleep CD helps you relax to sleep quickly and naturally. "Just Relax - Relaxing to Sleep" is a spoken word program (not subliminal) with sound therapy (healing tones) and a bonus music track that promotes relaxation, self-healing and deep, restful sleep. "Just Relax..." alleviates the restlessness and sleeplessness commonly associated with insomnia, addiction withdrawal, post-surgical trauma, chronic fatigue and chronic pain, including fibromyalgia, post traumatic stress disorder, depression, anxiety, panic and worry. "Just Relax..." is so effective that a distinguished teaching university and research hospital in San Francisco, UCSF/Mt. Zion Medical Center, recommends it to their patients with insomnia. Our CD promotes the relaxation response by emphasizing deep, full breathing to oxygenate the blood. By enhancing clearer, sharper thinking, the work-related benefits are: heightened creativity, improved productivity and reduced absenteeism. Use it as a travel aid to overcome the fear of flying, survive noisy hotel rooms and eliminate jet lag. If you are among the tens of millions of people worldwide seeking an inexpensive, easy-to-use, portable stress management tool, are nervous or anxious in response to our troubled times, feel distraught over the inability to heal from chronic illness, are in recovery, or simply shopping for a natural, less habit-forming way to fall asleep, then "Just Relax..." is for you!

Just relax-just incredible-and much better and less expensive than Ambien!.......2007-07-05
I bought this cd along with another, Indigo Dreams, for myself and my son who had just discovered he had a relapse of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was devastated since he had been in remission for 3 years. He was going into a stem cell transplant and the really excruciating chemo accompanying that treatment, and neither of us was sleeping through the night. The Indigo Dreams cd was not effective-the positive reinforcement was so far from anything he could realize at the time, it made him weep. This cd, on the other hand, worked for both of us immediately. The first time I listened to the whole cd. Every subsequent time, I have fallen asleep before the message was over. It even works for my Corgi, who rolls over on his back and starts to snooze when he hears the tape begin. I recommended the cd to other people in the hospital who were having sleeping problems, and they, too, found it helped them get to sleep. I would give it 5 stars, but the music does not work for me.
Superb, the best.......2007-06-17
I purchased and tried many many audios of hypnosis and guided meditation for stress reduction. This one is the best. Her voice and manner are perfectly tuned. The repetition is fundamental to the healing hypnotic state. The music is brilliantly effective at supporting the goals of the spoken word. I play is audio by iPOD every night. I credit her positive suggestions to cumulative benefit to my every day effectiveness - the only bottom line.
Powerful and effective tool for relaxing.......2007-04-11
I have used it four times already and found it to be incredibly powerful and positive. I have examined the words/text closely and find it to be in harmony with my principles of individual sovereignty and freedom. I like the text and testify that the messages are completely open and true to the interests of the listener alone. The benefits are definitely worth the cost of the CD. It is easy to remain awake, if desired, or to fall asleep quickly and peacefully. At last, here is a voice which can be completely trusted to immediately calm and heal both mind and body.
"Just Relax" gave me a "new life.".......2006-12-29
Less than one year ago, post-heart-surgery anxiety was taking over my life and I was becoming disabled until I found "Just Relax," thank God. Gail Seymour's approach to self-healing through guided meditation and critically positive psychological prompts helped me begin to sleep during the night and regain my calmer self during day. Without pharmaceuticals, I am well on the road to recovery from what my cardiologist called "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" and I'm thankful everyday for "Just Relax."
Finally a great sleep aid that works.......2006-12-08
My insomnia comes and goes. Stress, caffeine and depression are all factors. I've tried sleeping pills, and all I got were mornings that felt like I'd been drinking booze the night before. Drugs are never an option for me. No thanks. Although the subliminal CDs I've purchased in the past were nice to listen to, they never seemed to help. I ordered Just Relax at the recommendation of a friend who found it beneficial. The instructions in the beginning of the CD are pretty straight forward. I listened to them once, maybe twice. When I played track 2, it took me a few minutes to adjust to hearing someone's voice, but it became a familiar one (like a good friend) very quickly. The next thing I knew, it was morning, and the alarm clock was going off. It works all right. I got a full 8 hours. Just Relax is probably the best CD I've ever used to help me with insomnia. It usually does the trick. Gail Seymour's voice is soft and gently persuasive, suggesting that I relax, and soon I find myself drifting off to sleep. There's soft music in the background, as well as on track 3, which is very easy to listen to night after night. I never seem to tire of it. I highly recommend this CD for anyone with sleep disruptions who wants safe, drug-free rest. I'm really glad I bought it. It's worth every penny.

Lovely ^^.......2005-08-17
A truly magnificent CD. The songs are mixes of techno, and a style that reminds me of celtic music. If you love the music in the show, you will most likely love the CD ^^. If you like this CD I also suggest the sound/song track 1. Which has mimiru on the cover. This is my first review, sorry about not going that in-detail, I wasn't positive what to put :P
An excellent mix!.......2005-05-13
The first time watching .Hack//Sign, I instantly fell in love with the soundtrack. I expected to find a CD totally in Japanese, singers singing words I had no idea what meant. But what I found were English lyrics, and very good ones, too. It's a great assortment fo music, from slow to dance. Escpecially worth a listen are 'To Nowhere' and 'In the Land of Twilight, Under the Moon'. Excellent listening, great quality sound, definitely worth the price. Five stars.
One Of My Favorites By Yuki Kajiura.......2005-05-02
It's great, at first i had only purchased it for In the twilight, under the moon. But after listening to the whole CD none of it ever gets old.
I don't know im three years old!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-03-20
I like it, and from me, if you knew me, you'd be impressed. note: its cheaper if you buy it with the .hack//sign volume 2 dvd and music combo, no diff.
Eclectic only begins..........2004-03-10
to describe Ms. Kajiura's compositions. This music goes far beyond ordinary J-Pop. Not only classically trained, but the daughter of a musician, she has created some of the most interesting and emotion-filled peices I've heard in anime. The songs mix beautiful vocals with traditional orchestral instruments, marimbas, bagpipes, banjos, and concertinas. It's wonderful stuff. If you can hear "To Nowhere" and aren't moved, you're made of stone.
