ORLANDO, FL --- Katie Levent, 17, of Clearwater, Florida, is the story that movies are made of --- performing since age 3 she has been surrounded with the Greek heritage and music of her grandfather Spiro Skordilis, a master bouzouki player and gold-record artist.

At the tender age of 15 months, Katie made history by becoming the first 15-month-old to enter talent competition in a pageant sponsored by Beauty Contest, Inc., a forerunner pageant of the Miss Florida contest. And she won --- placing first in every category --- swimsuit, sportswear, photogenic, beauty and talent for the title of Little Miss Tarpon Springs. Her talent in the competition was belly dancing. Tragically, at age 9 she suffered traumatic injuries in a car accident when her great-grandmother lost consciousness from an apparent heart attack while driving and pinned Katie to her seat. Young Katie quickly grabbed the steering wheel. Being too little to see over the car’s dash or reach the brakes, she tried to steer to safety and turned the steering wheel to the right, directing the car off the road. The car hit a house. Katie suffered extreme lacerations to her knee and her tongue was nearly severed. Katie had to be fed with an eyedropper and underwent months of intensive physical therapy.

"I had to learn to walk and talk all over again at age nine," remembers Katie. "My doctors weren’t even sure if I would be able to sing again – my real passion in life. Fortunately, my family and friends believed in me and gave me the strength and courage to recover." Now, Levent shares her story during her concerts, stressing to others to follow their dreams and believe in themselves. She is committed to her personal philanthropic "Follow Your Dreams" fundraisers for youth and schools across the nation. "Katie’s efforts to support other youth have made her a solid, principled role model and that’s why she was recently honored with the Heroes and Legends (HAL) Unsung Hero Award," comments Janie Bradford, founder and CEO of this prestigious award program. Recognized for her dedication in motivating other youth to never give up reaching their dreams, Katie was also presented the HAL Award in Beverly Hills, California, for her numerous contributions to the entertainment industry. She is one of only seven persons nationally recognized at the celebrity-attended dinner that also paid homage to the legendary "girl group," Motown’s Supremes. Katie writes her own songs and weaves her special mix of her Greek heritage into her music. She describes it as Mediterranean-flavored Rhythm and Blues with a unique blend of Hip-Hop. Additionally, Katie’s dance style accompanying her music highlights her belly dancing which is sure to shake up the music industry. Grandfather Spiro even plays bouzouki on several of her cuts from her new CD release "my eyes are watching you." Featuring her hit release by the same name, the CD is due out January 2004 on an independent label. In the cover song "My Eyes Are Watching You" some of the lyrics are Greek. "I really believe the Greek influence is going to play an even bigger part in the music scene," says Tammy Levent, Katie’s mother and co-manager. "Look at the success of My Big Fat Greek Wedding. And, with the 2004 Olympics being held in Greece, there’s a big interest in things Greek." This is surely the case when Katie takes center stage. Fans exhibited cheers recently while Katie performed on the main stage at Music Fest Miami, an all-day concert with entertainers like Patti LaBelle and other international recording artists. Oftentimes, fans stick around after the performance wanting Katie to teach them to belly dance. Even with the rising celebrity status, Katie remains grounded. "For me, it’s not about the fame or money, I truly enjoy doing this. I picked this album up in a local mall where Katie was performing, she signed it for me which was greeeaaaattt!!!!!!! After listening to the whole album it was hmmmmmm to be straight only fair. Production was not too hot, her voice sounded better in the mall than on the CD and the lyrics were too generic. I know why the used price on here is three dollars, I dont think ill be able to make some cash selling the autograph on e-bay someday.sorrrrry katie---------ya look good anyway and ill still come to see you next time your at the mall. this is the greatest cd this year i bought today and can't stop listening infact 2 day at the brandon mall in florida i got autographs and bought katie's cd she performed at fye store and i met her in person i encourage people 2 buy her cd katie is differnt from britney and christina and has different moves.
