About the Artist
Antonio "TC" Cruz is a singer of rare talent – a full tenor with a beautiful voice and a charming falsetto, harking back to romantic late 70s and early 80’s.

Nationally recognized as the best male vocalist of Portugal, Antonio "TC" Cruz is one of the three singers featured at the 1998 Miss Portugal Beauty Pageant, along with the Latin mega star, Ricky Martin and Italy’s superstar Nek. Earlier in 1996, he was invited by the internationally known Italian singer, Laura Pausini to participate in her album, "Le Cose Che Vivi ".

A former Universal Music Portugal artist, Cruz broke through the music scene of Portugal in 1995, after winning 1st place in a national talent contest, before a live television audience of 2 Million viewers, to represent the country at the prestigious Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin, Ireland – the same European talent show that launched the career of superstar Celine Dion. His debut Portuguese album, Alma Nua (Universal) is revered as a watershed release, launching a new frontier in Portuguese music.

Well-regarded within the television and film circles of Lisbon, Antonio "TC" Cruz is the powerful voice behind the animated characters of "Simba" in Disney’s Lion King II, "Quasimodo" in Hunch Back of Notre Dame I & II, and "Garrett" in Warner Brothers’ Magic Sword – Portuguese version.

Superb and exciting playing!.......2007-01-11

One of the most exciting and enjoyable discs in my collection. I play the lute, and my wife plays classical and baroque guitar, and we have been early music enthusiasts for many years. There are a lot of boring, badly done early music recordings out there and this is definitely not one of them! A must listen for classical guitar players, as it will change your thinking forever about the possibilities of music making with an authentically constructed instrument. Music-making of the highest professional level.

His playing has the perfect balance betweeen intelect and feelings. The music always sounds fresh, spontanious, but is still "historical" correct. This is no "museum" recording, but living music, by one of the most excellent guitarplayers from the northern Europe.

Album Description

Since 1988 La Fontegara, founded by Maria Díez-Canedo, Gabriela Villa Walls and Eloy Cruz, has specialized in the historic interpretation of music of the 15th through 18th centuries, using replicas of original instruments. After 1997, Eunice Padilla was added to the group as harpsichordist. The members of La Fontegara have completed professional studies in Mexico, Boston, Chicago, New York and The Hague. La Fontegara have made several recordings and given concerts in the U.S., Europe, Central America and South America. Sonatas Novohispanas II - Mexican Baroque Music is a continuation of their first album presenting instrumental music by composers found in the Mexican archives of the 18th century. Long considered a fallow period in Mexican musical culture, the 18th century is receiving new attention from scholars upon the discovery of new sources that have allowed a substantial revision of the former view of musical decadence. It seems that New Spain had indeed a! flourishing artistic life of great quality. Extensive notes in English and Spanish detail the musical history of this fascinating period and place.

I find this disk exceptional, so much for the quality of the taking of sound, like for the interpretation of its musicians.
Here one of the music's better interpretations offers for guitar of the XVII and XVIII centuries.
The emotion invades me when listening the unrestrainable passion of the fandango of Murcia and the freshness of colors of the Zarambeques.
It is impossible to be impassive before this wonderful disk that reflects the human being's deeper emotions.
It was not expected less than Juan Carlos Rivera.

This is a beautiful CD with a marvelous compilation of repertoire from spanish guitar in 17th & early 18th century.
The music, the playing and the recorder sound are simplies stunnings.
Armoniosi Concerti recreate an atmosphère plenty of colours, an admirable control of rhythm, a clear of melodic lines, impeccable phrasing and precise expressiveness. Extraordinary performance of the "Fadango" (Murzia) and the "Folias" and "Canarios" (Sanz, Santa Cruz).
In the solo works (Guerau, Murzia) Rivera owns a commanding technique and a sweet sound.
This is a superb disc.

I've never had heard this Spanish baroque guitar music played so skillfuly and with that vehemence. The items selection is perfect, with music that you can rarely hear on other records. The sound quality is great, very natural, and the interpretation is full of nuances, that go from "fortissimo" to "pianissimo". The ensemble arrangements are the best ones that I've ever heard. Absolutely recommended!!!!!

Excellent singing by a neglected artist.......2002-07-13

Highly feted in her day, soprano Lucrezia Bori went into a serious decline in popularity following her retirement. By the 1960s she was strictly in the province of specialty collectors, not nearly as well-remembered as Ponselle, Muzio or Flagstad.

Though she did not possess a voice that incredible, but rather a smallish instrument, she was a singer of surprising musicality for that era and great variety. Not all of her records are fabulous--indeed, it is perhaps because she was a famous Violetta but her "Sempre libera" is so disappointing that she became forgotten so quickly--but in the great majority of them one hears a singer and artist of great imagination, musicality and control, singing with a bright but not grating tone and excellent phrasing. Highly recommended, especially to those who do not mind the sound of old records.
