Customer Reviews:
Soda Pop FLOP! Less radio, more jingle please!.......2004-12-14
I have to expand upon what was said about this collection by another. I just picked up a copy of this with a gift card and surprisingly enough, this isn't even all that "new" ( just having purchased it in December 2004) and it's STILL at a high markup! Two discs or not, the actual worth of it would be about 1/3 the actual retail! Why? Like it was already said - No track listings (of any kind ANYWHERE - I happen to recognize many of the singers being a collector, but come on!); no breaks in the tracks; too much radio and not enough jingles - although it's cute to hear the surrounding tapes I don't particularly need to know what the weather and traffic in Tulsa was forty years ago; and agreeably, the graphics have an authentic look, but poorly executed! Also, it seems like Coke and a few other soft drinks are the main jingles. Where's Donna Loren, the "Dr. Pepper Girl"?! Soda companies were falling all over themselves to try to stay in competition in those days! LOTS of them, too that didn't survive! By contrast, the Tee Vee Toons Commercial spots CD managed to cram 55 tracks on to one disc! Sorry, but back to the sound mixer software and skim out more of the radio and concentrate on the jingle or call it "Vintage radio broadcasts" instead!
Mixed feelings...........2003-08-26
While the material on here is quite good and fairly thorough, I was somewhat disappointed in the presentation. The whole package looks as if it were homemade, from the cheap looking printed CD label and the slightly out of focus insert booklet, to the way the material is presented on the CDs. Each CD has only like two tracks, and each track is fairly long (20 to 30 minutes). There is no breakdown of individual material, and there is no listings as to what's on the CD. The actual material sounds pretty good, but I would have rather seen a listing of what is on each CD, and had the ability to skip through the tracks, if they were available. For the price, I was expecting more along these lines, but whatever. This is supposed to be the first of three, and I probably won't get the rest unless it's formatted better.
