Light Hearted Fun.......2003-10-20
As on her more serious toned release, I Think Of You, the melodies are very focused and quite catchy. The extensive use of different instruments and arrangements is quite refreshing. The opening track, Take It As A Joke features a light hearted look at handling obstacles in this game called life. The use of the trumpet is delightful in a hokey kind of way. For You is another well constructed tune which features some social commentary that both informs and amuses. De Mongoose of De Island and Bugz in Da Bed are delightful reggae excursions which are aimed at bringing out the inner child in many of us.
My Bamboo Hat most definitely shows the light-hearted side to Suki Rae's vivid imagery. Whereas, Suki's I Think Of You might appeal to a wider audience, this My Bamboo Hat collection certainly stands strong its creative arrangments and overall fun atmosphere.
