About the Artist
Kaila recently opened for Rap Artist Coolio at the Import Extreme Car Show in Honolulu, Hawaii, and is currently embarking on a hectic schedule touring across the country to promote her new, self titled album.

As if that were not enough, Kaila is also very much in demand as a model, first making her name as the "Most Searched Import Model" online and is currently featured as a character in Street Racing Syndicate, a videogame for Playstation 2, has been featured in the pages of FHM magazine, and has released her own 2003 calendar. Her huge fanbase who has been fixtated on her modeling careerr now eagerly awaits her music release. Beautiful enough to be a successful model and talented enough to write and sing in her sweet and soulful voice, her Asian inspired music cleverly blended with modern R&B, Kaila is clearly establishing her own unique identity as she crosses Musical borders and arrives at what promises to be the start of an immensely successful career. Her international appeal is also widened by that fact that she can sing fluently in her native language, mandarin and has plans to release tracks in mandarin. She is a "triple threat" excelling in music, acting, and modeling, her past theatrical credits include working with Kurt Russell and Scott Speedman in the feature film Dark Blue and co-starring in Jade Buddha, a soap opera airing in China.

Kaila acted as executive producer on her current album release. She overlooked every aspect of the project and wrote or co-wrote almost all of the songs on her album. She says "I truly believe that I need to be completely involved in the creation of my music from beginning and end because I want the audience to hear what I have to say, not what someone else wrote. My favorite song on the cd is "Just A Dream", it shows a side of me that I try to hide and I recorded all my vocals for that song in a home studio, completely alone, so that song is truly and extension of myself. I think the song that best represents me. Kaila's tracks were produced by the track master Mr Lew, who has tracks on the B2K and IMX projects amd mastered by The Gubnah, who has worked on the platinum Vanessa Willams album. As an artist she is not at all afraid to express her sexuality and isn’t overly concerned with staying with the norm or listening to what others have to say.

Born in Taipei, Kaila moved to California when she was three and got into music at an early age. She began taking piano lessons at the age of 10, enrolled in jazz and ballet classes and toured with a Chinese Folk Dance group. In her youth she was passionate about creating and producing and would act as executive producer for showcases and plays for the neighbourhood and school. Although her dream was always to be a singer, Kaila pursued acting and modeling as she attended UCLA as an Economics Major. She also enrolled in singing classes and joined the choir, and in her spare time continued to work on her music.

She auditioned for and won the lead in a musical called "No Turning Back", the prophetic story of a young girl who wished to pursue a singing career over the objections of her parents. The director of the play encouraged Kaila to pursue music and set her up with a gig to perform at Club Soho in Los Angeles. Singing live on stage for the first time in front of an enthusiastic crowd was the catalyst that ignited Kaila¹s passion to perform, and from that moment on she began actively pursuing a musical career.

Brazil Duet: Mike Marshall.......2006-01-29

One word, Amazing! Mike Marshall is one of todays best mandolinist and he shows his innovative concepts while playing traditional Brazilian Choro. He pulls in some heavy hitters for this project and it just simply couldn't have been done better. If you are a first time listening to Choro or Marshall for that fact, well this is a great CD to pick up. You will be hooked after the firstt song.

In the early 1990s, newgrass mandolin whiz Mike Marshall got the bug for Brazilian "choro" music, a mainly-instrumental Dixieland-ish style that's as old as the samba and three times as fast... He's joined here by folks such as Bela Fleck, Edgar Meyer, Andy Narell and Brazilian-born pianist Jovino Santos Neto, in a surprisingly strong, cheerfully playful set... Lots of fun and performed with a real understanding for the music. Recommended!

I was given this album as a gift and had never heard of Kaila Flexer before. Now it's my single favorite album. Lively, brimming with playful energy, and tender too, it feels like a blend of jazz/folk/klezmer to me, very well done. Each of the musicians is individually technically marvelous, and they've all clearly put some significant time in to shaping a cohesive sound. Very clean, very complex.

Kaila has a keen sense of rhythm and timing. Her band is right with her as she takes you on a palatable journey of the ear.

Kaila Flexer uses the constant flux of ingredients in cuisine and language as a metaphor for her culturally eclectic music, a lively amalgam of zlezmer (traditional Jewish dance music), jazz, classical, and Eastern European musical vocabularies. Produced by Flexer's husband, noted mandolinist Mike Marshall (Chiaroscuro), Next Village blends Nikolai Prisakar's lyrical accordion lines with Flexer's ornamented filigrees on the lovely "Shepherd's Dream" and suggests Greek folk music on the Marshall showcase "Grab the Gutter." But even Brazilian grooves ("André de Sapato Novo") and modern jazz balladry ("Trapeze Secrets") aren't off the menu in Flexer's flexible palette. And Now for Something Completely Different.......2004-04-22

I'm a rocker from way back. I started with the Beatles and ran through just about every permutaion of rock that bubbled up through the industry. But I find as I get older It becomes less and less satisfying. I keep looking for some new sound, but rarely find it in the place I called home. It does, however, keep cropping up just about everyplace else in music. I continually run across artists who are attemting to fuse the most unlikely styles of music. And I am continually surprised by how often they succeed.

Enter Kaila Flexer. I know nothing of her. I ran across this CD as it was floating around the office I worked in (a music "one-stop"). I took it home and gave it a spin. What a peculiar but pleasant experience. It sounded as though a troup of Eastern Europeans decided to see what they could do with jazz after tiring of Klezmer. Originality is no virtue in its own right but this really works. It's a weird amalgam of styles played by some very talented musicians. There isn't a weak link in this lineup and Kaila herself plays a pretty mean fiddle (violin?).

This will never climb up the charts and will never be enjoyed outside a small circle of people, but those who enjoy new musical experiences need only listen to the cut Extrapolate Backwards to know they're in for a real treat. I found myself playing it for any number of people who seemed to enjoy it as much as I did and who often asked "What do you call this kind of music". I don't really care what you call it, just rev it up, sit back, and enjoy the ride.

I think Kaila's really trying her hardest. I mean, everyone needs to practice their own craft in order to become superstars. You can't expect a first attempt/album to go platinum, rock the charts, and shoot the artist all the way up there with such singers like Celine Dion, etc.

They all started as relatively unknown people, making their own way in the world, and as they grew in and recognized their music, the world saw them as well. But don't worry, Kaila. There's always going to be haters out there, someone's who's jealous of what you've got by working your hardest.
